Ok, so I've looked through various threads today and cant seem to get a fix.
First, heres the symptoms- N4 (4.2.1) has massive battery loss/ something running in the background killing it (battery page says Android OS). I killed all the background apps and everything else it would let me kill and it still will not charge (tried different plugs, cables, outlets, etc). I've had it plugged in for the past 6 hours and I'm finally up to 9%.
The phone has been rooted, and I'm trying to flash it and return it to stock, but thats when I ran into problem 2. It won't recognize that it is plugged into a computer (running on a Mac, but tried XP machine, Win7 machine, and again different cords).
From here, I don't know where to go. I'm new to this Android ball game so I don't have a ton of background here, so hopefully I missed something simple.
PS by massive battery loss- I fully charged the phone last night, then went to class today with wifi/blue/gps off and always have 5 bars of AT&T here and after 1 Hr, I had 35% battery left with Android OS consuming almost all of it.
definitely pickup gsam battery monitor and better battery stats to monitor the battery usage. gsam might be able to tell you what app is causing the battery drain. bbs is more technical but might tell you more about what is going on. Make sure your maps app is not reporting your location.

Thanks for the response. Downloaded it and the usage is 1%, so now I think its something more than that. Either hardware or some weird glitch??
It won't charge and isn't recognized by any computer?
I'd call it a hardware fault to be honest.
Try to get a stock rom on the device, re flash it and RMA it.

Just let it die and RMA it anyways. They arent gonna bother to Charge it, then "look to see if you Rom'd it".
I'm gonna help ya out here...
1. download this app from the playstore and relock bootloader : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.segv11.bootunlocker

Well now it seems I've hit another brick wall. After entering into, or trying to enter into Recovery mode, it comes up with an error message saying No Command. I swear, I'm not usually this bad with these things. Any ideas?
For future reference MTP doesn't work with Win XP, and you need a separate app for it to work on a Mac. Should be recognized on the Win 7 PC though.

That means you currently have the stock recovery installed. First unlock the bootloader again with the Bootlock app. Then download Rom Manger from the play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.rommanager . open it up and select flash clockworkmod recovery. When its done re-lock your boot loader again with bootlock. Then boot back into recovery manually (or even easier, open rom manager again and push reboot into recovery) and proceed to flash the stock rom & recovery files. (Don't forget to wipe first)

Okay, so I was listening to a YouTube video via Popup Browser BETA. When the song finished, I tried closing the window, but it wouldn't let me interact with the window. Not sure why. I just figured since the app was in beta it was just confused, so I went to the settings->running applications->I force closed the app. But for some reason, the little window still wouldn't go away. So I decided to reboot my device. Bad idea, apparently...
Now whenever I boot up my phone it'll vibrate, display the Google logo for a few seconds, and then... it goes to a blank black screen. Not a clue why. I've tried:
- Leaving it to charge and rebooting
- Leaving it in the blank black screen
- Booting into recovery, then trying to reboot the device from there
- Clearing cache partition
Nothing works. I still can't boot up my phone again.
I'm running Slimbean 4.2.1 (not the latest version). There really isn't anything that might have triggered this. I can still charge my phone (the charging animation still occurs) and I can still go into CWM Recovery. I'd really rather not have to install a new ROM or anything... but if I have to, is there a way to extract the data I have on my phone now while in recovery or something?
Any suggestions?
EDIT: This has been FIXED. Moderators, if you see this, you can close this thread. If anyone else has this problem, try reflashing your current version of your ROM, that's how I fixed mine. I'm not responsible for damage to your device.

No way of corrupting your data, as long as you don't select to wipe data partition or data is already corrupted. But this is strange that your phone gone crazy like this. Try to reflash your rom without wiping data and see if your phone will boot up

I've not got enough free space on my phone I don't think (it's only 16GB, I got about 2GB free).
Unless I'm mistaken the backup will take more than that, yes? Considering I've got a few games apps that probably equate to about 4GB.

Reflash the same version you were running before this accident, as the newest version requires clean flash. If you want to run the latest version and have your data back, reflash the same version you were running before, then backup your data, wipe phone, flash the latest version and restore your data

WOO! Thanks a lot! Booted up perfectly, and no loss of data or anything like that. Only odd things is it seems to have changed my DPI... but I can change that easily so it's not really a bother. It also made me have to update the Virus Definitions on Avast!, not sure why either.
I shall now proceed to thank all of your posts.

Yes either that or perhaps switch to a new one, I've been with semi-stock Android for quite a while now I'm really liking the port of MIUI V5...
No matter what I do... no matter what ROM I flash to, and I have tried 4 different ROMs, I keep getting the UI Stops Working error and then my phone is virtually non-functional. The notifications, navigation, and launcher bars go away and I cannot do anything. The only thing that I can do is boot into recovery and then flash a new ROM, BUT I have been doing this a couple times a day.
I even formatted my entire phone, internal storage and all, started completely over AND YET I still get the issue. What can I do???

The only ones that I can think of are the live wallpaper ones, Email Exchange since I don't need it, and face unlock. I also froze the NFC. I wouldn't think that would cause it. I was reading on the internet that the Facebook app can cause it so I deleted the app and we will see.

When this happened to me I used Matt's utility option 1... rooted it updated it n made a TiB of everything... now when I tinker n it gets wonky I restore the systemui.apk n reboot... I know you said that you started over does that mean you used rsd and flashed stock... or did you go through a recovery to do the wiping formatting n what not?

Had this happen the other day and this is what I did. I rebooted the phone WHILE HOLDING THE VOLUME DOWN KEY. it boots into safe mode. While in there make a TiBu of your apps. Then boot into recovery and factory data/reset like 3 times, flash back to a ROM and restore your apps. This way you don't lose your stuff.

When I meant started over I was yes referring to the booting to recovery and then wiping/formatting everything, then reflashing a ROM. That works, but I just am nervous now because the issue persists no matter the ROM. Sometimes it takes a day or two or sometimes it happens even quicker than that. I think it might be Facebook so I am not installing that app again. Why FB works on my Nexus 7 tablet and my wife's phone just fine is beyond me.
I didn't know I can make a backup of systemui.apk and restore it to make it work. I wish we could find the main issue to begin with so we can resolve this once-and-for-all.

Yea I backup everything on my external hard drive (that after I back anything up I bubble wrap and put in my fire safe< a bit paranoid) every week, so that if anything happens I can just wipe it clean and start fresh (I have never used rsd lite but I'm guessing its somewhat like option one of Matt's utility) that restores your phone to a moto flashed like state... ready to be sold as a certified like new device (as Verizon would call it)...

Are you mounting system in TWRP, before you wipe data? For some reason, I stopped doing this when I updated to the newer TWRP. There was a thread on here where someone said they mounted prior to wiping and it solved their 4.3 issues. I tried it and it worked for me. I would suggest you try the same.

Whenever I restart my phone the brightness automatically goes to 100% rather than sticking to whatever percentage I left it before restarting it. My screen timeout also goes back to 5 minutes (original) rather than whatever I have changed it to. Is this a bug in my phone or is this the standard feature for the G2? Sorry couldn't find anything in the search results. I am using the D802 variant.

Stock ROM, phone is rooted and no custom recovery installed. I am using Xposed Modules but even after disabling all of them the brightness went to 100% after rebooting. I just noticed, the brightness stays the same as before until I unlock the phone, then it automatically goes up to 100%.
All I would say is, Stock doesn't do this.
Since you don't have custom recovery, you cannot try a Cache wipe. You could try a factory reset though.

Thank you. Also, I may as well get this question here since I've been meaning to ask it.
I have only used Nexus/Samsung devices before where the bootloader could be unlocked/locked easily, therefore I could quickly unroot and go back to stock recovery for OTA updates and such. I have read here that if I install a custom recovery I cannot use OTA updates. My question is how can I go back to unrooting and stock recovery? I have seen the stock firmware thread which I think would unroot the device but will it also make the recovery go back to stock?
You just flash one of the stock kdz files. See stickie in General

OK that's a relief then, thanks for your help and I'll try a factory reset or using a stock kdz file.
Sometimes disabling the exposed modules alone isn't enough, have to use return option disabling exposed entirely. Flash file is in sd parent directory. Flash the zip. OTA isn't currently worth the troubles. Block em atm. Xposed (everything really) plays much nicer with SuperSU btw.

That's not what's supposed to be. Does it happen every reboot?
My G2 brightness jumped to max or fell to min brightness only for a couple of times within the first a few days after activation. I used AndroSensor and Lux auto brightness to find out its light sensor and inertia sensors were shut down when that happened (yes screen auto rotation went off, too). Maybe that's due to indoor/outdoor steep temperature changes. A power off and on solves that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2570189
Mine does it as well. It is not full brightness but the auto brightness that takes a long time to kick in.

I searched on Google about this exact behavior and found this post.
I just got an LG G2 before yesterday from someone else who bought it in January (I checked warranty info) and it was fully stock and not rooted. I factory reset it 3 times and each time I reboot it still goes to 100% brightness even though I had it around 50%. At least it doesn't go to 100% while using it normally! phew lol. Then I'd be worried. But it's only after a reboot. That's a weird behavior. I had lots of phones and none did that.
I had the same problem only when the simcard wasn't inserted.
me too had same problem before, now it is disappeared, maybe virus problem

That was the reason on my situation. Thanks!
Hey guys, any help would be appreciated!
Alright, I will try to explain it simply and clean. Basically, the thing is when I first got my LG G2 (kitkat), I rooted it and installed some mods. One of them was G2 tweaksbox xposed module. With that module, you can hide "clear all" and "task manager" button from recents. But the thing is, after I re-flashed my ROM (absolutely full wipe, nothing left), weird thing happened since. You all know that animation when going to recents from an app in jelly bean and kitkat and now, it's kinda bugged. The animation is a little bit off graphically. Basically, the animation reads navigation bar like it's a little bit bigger than it should be and it looks kinda weird, like it first goes a little bit more bottom and gets back up making it look graphically bad. Everything shows that nav bar is stock size, even tried many mods that make it stock and yeah, basically it is stock but even some apps still read it like it's wrong. That animation is fixable if I hide that buttons in recents again, but it bugs me that even after 3 months of MANY wipes and all the crap it's still like that, I just can't make it fully stock if I would want to.
So my question is, is something from xposed or anything like that left in phone even after going through FULL wipes many, many, like maaany times? Did I miss something? If so, can I do something like manual cleaning so phone will finally be 100% stock again? I call it "memory effect", sort of like phone still reads it like there's an xposed module partially and it just can't get a rid of that.
So, I would really appreciate if you read this fully and try to help me. Thanks!

If you use Odin to return to stock, that will wipe your entire phone completely. It will wipe your internal storage, and all partitions. It works on the d800, and I don't see why it wouldn't work for your phone.

If you have an OTG cable or drive with ROM and gapps files plugged in to your g2 there is an option to format the phone in TWRP.
But you must have ALL the files needed to flash the new ROM.

It's not like it doesn't work, it's like it works, it wipes everything, but the system is still reading like xposed is there, so what I understood is that full wipe isn't really a full wipe after all.
