Considering i am reaching the end and completion of my dream phone i thought i'd share it here, I am not sure if I shared this particular one before but it's the concept I was most happy about.

Demonstrating the experimental light stripe idea and slightly rounder corners
It would have a 4.7 inch 1080p jdi oled panel with white magic and feature my virtual bezel idea where it adds dead space top the screen in landscape to be able to hold it easier the sony logo would be part of the screen, it would also inbuilt fingerprint reader in the panel, a snapdragon 805 processor and 4 gb of ram, battery would be 3500 mah.
It would come with either 32 or 64 gb inbuilt storage and a micro SD slot aswell as an ir blaster, it would also have dual sim or a dual sim version.
Another unsure idea for it is my light stripe idea around the entire phone
Build would be a black zero gap uni body, same metal as the frame of the z ultra, it would wrap around the entire phone the frame would be the body, making only the front accessible to the inside.
What's left now for my dream phone is the unrealistic ideas, like a metal plate placed ontop of a oled screen that would have invisible microscopic holes for the screen to shine through resulting in the picture showing on metal instead of glass, Similar to the flip cases with holes on just much much smaller and invisible holes, the idea of well hope, is that the screen can show properly through the metal with no signs of any pattern or hole it should also be able to fill the entire screen space with a solid color without anything in the way black should also show as a solid black color without anything in the way.
The ui itself would be floating icons on metal no wallpaper no underlay just buttons and icons just appearing on metal similar to samsung ultra power saving mode but instead of black glass it's pure metal, it would eliminate the smudge and fingerprint problems once and for all.
So far it's just a fantasy idea i also thought of transparent metal if it can retain it's original metal look when the screen isn't shining through
It would basically be a solid steel metal phone metal on both sides.
Another idea is an inbuilt flip cover with visible holes with a ui you can use through, only need for the full screen would be for media, if you don't mind using the ui with holes.
Well that's all for now I think as far as realism goes my dream phone is finnished please note the lines for the frontfacing speakers may come from a different concept, i don't remember which though.
Thumbs up for the effort but 1 out of 10 for the result. All I can say, that design just doesn't justify the premium feel on sony flagship or its beauty. Tbh, I hate thick bezel but I certainly like a thin bezel compared to bezel-less device.
Specs wise, max ram for 32-bit is 3gb. Snapdragon 805 falls under 32-bit thus it is most likely to be 3gb ram. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Yeah this concept is not very realistic and certainly not for everyone, but it was made with my taste in mind.
The slightly curved version was made as people told me to make the corners rounder.
But yeah this is my dream phone what i would change is the front metal idea.
I don't really like it, bezels are too thin for me lol (I like Z2 design it's good, not too much bezel in my opinion)
Anyway I'd rather see S810 then 805, also 4GB won't be necessary. What I'd rather have is RAW support for camera to have uncompressed pics from 21MP or maybe better camera. I'm 99% sure the current cam takes magnificent pics for a phone if we could see the RAW pics. Let's hope Google implements full RAW support soon

Bezels are too thin, it makes it look kinda ugly, besides your fingers would accidentally be pressing the screen all the time, in my opinion the bezels on the Xperia zl are perfect

The bezels are the gab between screen and frame?! Right? What you mean is something different.
Sent from my SGP512 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
That would be insanely uncomfortable and unwieldily. Some bezel on a phone actually helps in ergonomics and edge to edge screen handing.
they need to add infrared port on the phone asap. i cant understand why they skip it every new model.
Like I said in the post it would have something I call virtual bezel, you could control it at will ultra thin in portrait thicker in landscape the beauty with oled is that when it shows black it's off so you would basically add dead space too the screen, and it would look like it's not part of the screen.
Sent from my C6903 using xda app-developers app
But I agree the bottom one is ugly it's the top one I like as you can see it has a thicker Bezel though it really doesn't as you can see the Sony logo is glowing because it's part of the screen, Bezel has no meaning if it's virtual you could have it as thin or thick you want it would act and look like there's no screen where it's black, or at least that's the idea, the idea is that you can't tell where the screen ends, it would look identical too an actual Bezel.
So when you watch a movie where you don't have to hold the phone, you can take advantage of the entire screen space.
It's all up to you how much bezel you want and when you want it.
This is a slightly altered version of my dream phone concept

So I, like many others, am looking to buy a nexus 4 for Christmas. The lack of LTE means nothing to me as I'm in the UK and can't afford it anyway, so it seems like a pretty sweet deal, however one thing is bothering me...
Many reviews have shown that the back glass can crack relatively easily, and while usually I wouldn't call this a deal breaker, I had a horrible realisation. The nexus 4 is designed in such a way that the back glass acts seamlessly as the cameras lens cover, so if the back cracks, there is a fair chance that the crack could go right down the middle of the camera. Furthermore, like the nexus 7, the back cover actually has components on it, so it may not be a cheap or easy replacement.
I would hate to have my camera ruined because of a poor design choice. So has anyone seen anything around that may reassure me? Is the lens cover a separate piece of glass and it just looks continuous? Or does this seem like a real issue?
The strange seamless camera cover looks cool but may turn out to be a problem.
Good point here.. I really hate putting covers on my phones but in this case... I think I should..
The phone is fairly large as it is, a case just to avoid the camera cracking because of poor design is really disheartening for me
I see what you mean. They should've put a rim around the camera lens separating the two, as they did for the flash...

I wouldn't worry - that glass isnt the camera lens, its a bit of glass *above* the lens. The lens is the little round thing you see underneath.
It a crack goes straight through the middle of it, it would make minimal, if any, difference to photos, except maybe some loss of light gathering.
Wouldn't be the lens that cracks, only the lens front element. In photography in general, front elements can be quite beat up without producing any visible clues what so ever on the resulting images. Check out this web page: kurtmunger.com/dirty_lens_articleid35.html

Apologies I should have made the thread title clearer, I meant the lens cover.
Nice to know it shouldn't make too much difference. I guess if the crack is thick enough to make a difference then I'd probably get a replacement under insurance anyway.

Thanks for the link! Again as with above I should change the title, I didn't mean the lens I meant the cover. I didn't realise it makes such little difference though. Thanks
I was thinking of a similar issue for the screen. I read somewhere that the glass and the digitizer in this phone aren't two different layer on the actual pixels, but one. Thats make the screen more vivid as the pixels are closer to the glass.
So if we crack the gorilla glass, automatically the touch screen will be unusable. Am I right?
Sent from my Wildfire S A510e using xda app-developers app
that's exactly what happened with the verge's review nexus - in the video they say the back cracked after a fall, and the crack is very close to the camera, pic here: linky
in this case the camera was not affected but the rim of the flash probably makes that area of the glass weaker.
Just don't drop it, I guess

I'd have thought they would for the Nexus 7 to be honest but that hasn't happened yet. At least not easily. But yeah, if it does become a problem hopefully there will be enough pressure for them to start manufacturing and selling replacements.
Didn't even notice that. Reinforces my thoughts of getting a good case.
Any phone can be smashed, that's what's insurance is for.
FYI, the reason they have the rim around the flash is so that it doesn't cause the "flashback" problem and interfere with your pictures. If you've had an iPhone and didn't have a case with the larger camera/flash cutout or the black ring around the inside of the cutout, you know what I'm talking about. The flash can actually wash out pictures. The rim around the flash on the Nexus 4 solves this problem by isolating the flash from the camera lens.
As the title states I removed the front screen protector, the Sony logo also came with it. ( clove.co.uk )
I had a few fine scratches on the protector already and could see them when the backlight was on, so I had planned on doing it at some stage. I was sat outside in the sun and had the Z and S Xperia side by side, the screen on the Z was getting a little washed out compared to the S. I believe the protector causes a lot of this, I have taken it off all my previous Sony devices and each time it's resulted in a clearer screen and more touch responsiveness.
When I took the picture the protector was halfway off, maybe you can see the difference in the picture. It can certainly be seen in real life.

That's not true, confirmed by Sony.
Also, i wonder if we can buy screen protectors with Sony logo on them. I'm not planning on removing mine as I applied another one on top of it, but for those who did and want the logo back it'd be nice.
I've been searching online for any original Sony films - but so far have found none.
If I'm going to remove it because of scratches, I want to replace it with the same thing I took off

I can't imagine why, unless you dropped it and the screen shattered. I've done it on every Sony device I've had, Neo, Arc, Tablet S, XS, XZ,
The screen was not sticky but like extremely clean glass, my finger didn't slide smoothley, after a clean with a damp cloth it was perfect.
desfix - thanks for the info.
Have the viewing angles & colour improved?
Why do people care so much about "viewing angles"? every single phone I had I looked straight on. And before noone cared about viewing angles, they even made privacy screens, which obviously have extremely low viewing angles...for privacy...I would rather people not see my perverted conversations on my phone while im out in public anyway lolz
I don't particularly care about viewing angles either - I'm curious to know if removing the film changes the way the panel looks.

It does look crisper, I can't confirm if the viewing angles have improved or not, it probably has, but I can't remember and it's not something that can be measured anyway.
The screen protector always reduced screen visibility in my opinion due to internal reflection between the different layers.
It was quite easy to remove this time, the phone was warm (in my hand) and I just picked at a corner with my nail, peeling it off slowly along the length of the phone.

Here is probably my final phone concept, as i don't think i want anything more changed this is badly done in paint but you get the idea, for example the brushed steel texture is very miss aligned etc oh and theres no camera, i would actually give something to have a 3d render of this to see it come to life.
I would call it the xperia steel black limited edition, it would be very expensive about 1200$ and not possible to get off contract to make it as exclusive as possible, what i want changed in this picture is a different frame in black a silver sony logo at the bottom of the back, the specs would be snapdragon 805 same screen as the z2 if not better 4.7 inch, thicker battery and a extremely thin back plate to fit a thicker battery, the sony logo would light up in different colors and would be invisible when turned off both speakers would have rgb lighting.

many may not like it which is fine as this was made exactly after my own personal taste i think the back gives that signature sony feel but thats a personal opinion

Lol i saw this at Sony support forum. Sorry but this is so out of proportions. And i dont like aluminium back.
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
I like the small face area (high screen/face ratio). And I like a brushed metal back over glass. Both are the two physical things I'd like to see, personally.
Personal opinion here...
1. I don't like the edges... Too sharp very2 prone to scuffs and dings considering it's aluminum.
2. Aluminum body is fine but back side design looked like unfinished.
3. Too small bezels. Not very thumb friendly anymore specially when reaching those menu buttons.
Suggestions on the concept phone
1. Make the edges curvy and not sharp. That would be alot more comfortable to hold. Would help remind me that I'm holding a phone not a thin slab
2. Make the back matte. It would give a premium look and feel minus the fingerprints.
3. Well I'm not one of the bezel freak guys so I don't want thinker bezels. Thinking that the touchscreen is multitouch it would be pretty hard touching the sides of the phone while operating it with your other hand. And still I also don't like thick bezels. I just want an average one.

stolen i am not getting anything from this and i clearly stated they are concepts out of other peoples concepts i didn't know it was so serious as i don't even know who they belong to as i found them on google pictures
i am simply doing this for fun all i did was take pictures and cut and paste them around and change size in paint as i stated several times in my threads about it
if you want credits then sure i'll give you credits i just didn't know it was such a serious thing considering they are so heavily edited that the original picture is barely there any more but i apologize for stealing credit i just didn't know it was such a serious thing
these are the original source pictures i used
edit i had the xperia steel worked on a little again this time i had my friend drowsy sam help with photoshop work i DO NOT own the small speakers at the front they are taken from another concept
this time the idea is to have a tiny oled screen or negative watch screen at the top that can show everything from the sony logo to watch time to notifications
edit an even more polished version
and with brushed steel back
(EDIT: seems picture embedding messed up so see attached thumbnails below)
To calm down from the asf mess on the z ultra, i decided to work on my concepts again as that always calms me down, please note a friend drowsy sam helped me with the photoshop editing he just did all the changes i asked for so these look less badly made, considering my last concepts got well some hate as people claimed i stole i thought i'd try again, this time the remaining bits of other concepts are removed
the only bit thats from another concept is the speaker lines and possibly the frame on one of my old concepts but i don't know who made this concept so whoever it is PLEASE tell me so i can give proper credit
anyway this new one is basically a camera phone without compromises the idea is a real retractable camera in a quite thin form factor basically a real camera phone with no compromises just being a little thicker

This also shows most of my sony ui ideas, like for example replacing the home button with a menu button, i see no point to have a home button at the home screen, then an awkward menu button floating above, so my idea is to have it change to the home button when you press it, either by a simple fade effect or an animation similar to the way the play button changes to a pause button in the walkman app, these buttons should also be transparent so that they are lightly visible but not in the way same with the notification icons.
Next i got rid of the dots indicating homescreens as i think they should only show when you switch screen, then they should fade away.
Next theres my xperia dream phone concept
https://scontent-b-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/t1.0-9/10013539_10152248968156668_1099813813_n.jpg
Basically the same as the camera one just different back, some of the ideas i have for this phone is virtual bezels and an oled screen that pretty much fills up the front all the way to where the speaker is, the idea with virtual bezels is that you can control how much deadspace you want i am not entirely fammilier with oled screens but from my understanding the screen is off when it shows black meaning you can control how big it is, so for virtual bezels it could be that when in potrait you get very thin bezels, but when you flip the phone in landscape you get virtual bezels that looks and feels like actual bezels, so you can hold the phone properly you could also adjust the bezels in potrait if you want very thin bezels, just increase the screen size if you want bigger bezels decrease it, the idea is that it should look and feel like theres no screen where the bezels are, this would also mean that you can do what you want with those bezels,
for example having the notification icons floating at the top meaning it would look like they aren't even part of the screen, or perhaps add your own softkeys so it looks and feels like actual keys that aren't part of the screen.
This also shows my light stripe idea an idea i had since well beginning of 2013, the idea with this is that it can show really amazing light effects like moving a color up and down perfect for music, or mixing various colors so that it's blue at the top then slooowly changes to a different color at the bottom, you would not be able to tell where the color changes basically a special type of color at the top, but as you move closer down it slowly changes to various other colors untill it gets to a new color, when the light is off it would be invisible i like lights on phones but i don't want it to ruin the design, so the idea is to have a invisible light that only shows when it's on, this light would be able to do very advanced effects like having red at the top sloowly going to a different color basically it would be able to have any color light move across the entire stripe you would be able to get kitts scanner effect for example.
And lastly my xperia steel concepts, which also show my old idea of having a clock at the top untill i found out you could get the same effect from an oled screen unless i am incorrect, they never really were finished thats why the camera does not fit very well.
wow thankyou to whoever rated a 10
heres also a closer look at the light and virtual bezel as you can see the icons are in the bezel aswell as softkeys as they are actually screen
this also shows the light idea that i couldn't explain before it was called color gradient

though removing the rings around the lens and you'll have your big lens camera without optical zoom which could work too
infact thats a good idea BIG lens to combine both my concepts into one in a normally sized package

this is the thinnest cybershot retractable camera i could find
so in theory a tad bit thicker than this would perhaps work not sure how practical that would be but a little thickness dosn't bother me as long as it's not too think or just ruins the design

though with sonys expertise i think they could make something like this quite thin

I do not need a Optical Zoom capabilities, by the end of the day IT SHOULD BE A PHONE with better camera and not camera with phone capabilities.
The top pic concept is great for me.I just was looking for Bigger=Better lens and sensor=Better Pics and Vids.

It looked pretty clean with the naked eye
The thing is that everything looks filthy under a microscope
That's awesome, thanks for sharing
Lol, pretty awesome (and disturbing ) pics!
I love how the cameras actually look like an eye to me
It is pretty cool, the center being so black that you just cannot see anything in it despite 8 super bright LED's
Very cool images. Was interesting to see from the perspective that the phone is waterproof and what they did to the material/design to make it so.
That freaking gap between the glass and body...
I just sent mine back because of it, hoping it was a fault and that the replacement will be better.

That is actually the normal gap. The gaps are very small in reality and they are even on all sides of my phone, but look very large with the 200x magnification...
Some units do have an excessively large large gap either top or bottom, but that's not the case for mine.

Mine was worst around the corners, and one edge was worse than the other... so a bit uneven I guess. What annoyed me the most was the ease at which dust would settle in it.
Well, that gives me hope for at least some improvement!

Mine has slightly larger gaps at some corners as well. I just have the impression that the outer parts on Sony's newer phones and tablets are fitted less tightly than their older devices. I do know they intentionally need to leave some gap, because removing the glass is the only way to get to the internals with these new unibody devices.
That may be a reason why the glass eventually breaks easier than on other devices though. Damage to the edges is very critical for hardened glass.

Couldn't they just prise the plastic corner edging off to get to it? On my Z1C there is almost no gap between the glass and that edging, so I find it hard to believe it's necessary now. No, it looks like loose manufacturing/quality controls to me, especially when the severity of it varies between devices...

It doesn't look like it's possible to remove the corners, you can't feel any separation between the corners and the sides, it's as if it's melted together or something.
By the way, the nylon corners don't sit directly against the glass, there is still the plastic rim front and back that goes all around the glass.
I can't see the pics anymore
Going back to the gaps, my top gap is annoying large is filling with sand and dust (pocket crud). Anyone have any pointers to removing this?

I will try to find an alternative to host the pictures, this thread made my photo bucket bandwidth usage skyrocket from 0 to exceeding 10 GB in a day, LOL.
Pictures are visible again.
