are there any efforts on custom ROMs which would support S-View covers and behavior?
Or is this a proprietary thing that is doomed to only ever be in the stock ROM?
I am wondering if trying custom ROMs will mean losing this feature?
Infoport
S-View covers on custom ROMs should work fine, they do on the Note 3 also. - so long as you are using Touchwiz based ROMs at least.

I like stock Android but at the same time I also think multi-window, air view, and a few other Touchwiz features are useful. Is it going to be possible for any roms to integrate them?
touchwiz-based custom roms, yes!
aosp-based, probably not.
but touchwiz-based roms are just as good
Hi Guys,
I recently rooted my note 3 SM-N9005 version 4.4.2 with kernel 3.4.0-1703205 and got a few questions which I hope you guys can help me with.
1) By installing AOSP or Custom Roms, will Knox be tripped by default? If yes, are there ways to avoid this for different AOSP or Customs Roms?
2) After installing either AOSP or Custom Roms, can I still install launchers on top of it? Will there be any problems running both simultaneously?
3) Do I need to restore back all the bloatware and back it up as original before proceeding to install either AOSP or Custom Roms or I can just proceed to install?
4) What is the main difference between AOSP & Custom Roms other then size differences? Which is better for note 3 in an overall view?
5) Currently which of the AOSP or Custom Roms are tops or best for note 3, should I'm looking more into performance of my device? ( batt life, speed etc. )
Cheers and Thanks in advance!!!
1. Yes, as you have the N9005.
2. You can install launchers on stock ROM
3. No
4. In this case, AOSP will be a custom ROM as well as it is not stock. If you mean what's the difference between AOSP and TW, it means you get the stock Google experience and lose all of Samsung's bloat and some useful features such as S Note and the S Pen apps (S Pen still works but not Screen Write or Action Memo).
5. AOSP imo - C-RoM. Note 3 TW - X-Note. Note 3 and S5 - S5 port by fahadali.

Hi Nicholaschum,
Thanks for the reply & clarification.
Hello all,
I just bought the Note 3 and i was wondering if the custom roms (specially CM) have the full ability to use the s-pen including the notes and/or other related apps.

thats depend on room itself
most of roms support S-pen ( i dont know if CM support or not cuz my note 3 is Exynos)
may be you should ask in CM threat for Note 3 LTE
Thanks @Saif96,
I was expecting that since the whole idea of the Note series is using the s-pen
Iinstalled CM11 UnofficialbyTesmarek. And no. There is absolutely no support.Because it all needs the Samsung based touchwiz framework....
The pen works absolutely fine. But all samsung based features are missing....You need Samsung based Custom Roms.
Try Echoe Rom (iwill try this next) it looks close to the X-Note Rom which is dead on XDA but search for nonsolosmartphone and X-Note build 20...

Samsung based....
Hey everyone, over the past couple of months I've been slowly customizing my phone and making it my own. Recently I've read about how Android is filled with bloatware and isn't as secure (privacy-wise etc) as Cyanogen and Replicant. However, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is not compatible with them (at least the Verizon one isn't).
Are there alternatives that are open source, secure, and protects privacy?
AOSP ROMs (ex. CM) aren't possible on VZW S5. You'll have to use a TW-based ROM flashed with Safestrap. TW-based ROMs are just the stock Samsung ROM stripped and customized. Until the bootloader is unlocked there's just no way to use ROMs like CM at this time and very doubtful if ever.
Besides ROMs built on stock tw, no ROMs support NFC. It seems like cyanogen has given up on it. Is it a lost cause?
