No data after flashing update to stock kit kat 4.4.2! - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Have a D802 on three uk. Like others went down the route of rooting and flashing cm 11 on my device. All quite straight forward, never had a problem... decide to purchase an s5 so now need to sell my lg. Originally flashed a stock Rom through TWRP and now unable to receive data. Though it was a problem with the rom so I flashed LG firmware through update tool. And have three UK firmware on but same problem!! All toggles selected..data,3G, airplane mode on off, reboot. ..nothing. my 3 UK sim works fine on my s5 so not that. I can get signal fine but no data. Would really appreciate some help as I cannot understand what's the problem. Especially as I can get signal but no data and works fine in my s5 ?

I suspect you didn't do a FULL wipe before flashing....
Suggest you try that first as the APNs for 3UK may be corrupt.
You could try manually setting the APNs but honestly, the Factory Reset option and reflash is easier and fully effective.

The one thing I didn't try. Worked. Thanks very much.....wanna by an lg g2 haha. Cheers bud

By the way, could you give me a link to the tool that lets you go back to stock? I was thinking of rooting and doing various things, but I want to make sure I know how to go back to stock so that I can take future OTA's.

I got all my info here bud. First page.

[Q] Flashed stock rom, now no network?

Hi there, new to the forums posting but I read here constantly. I have an sm-900w8 note from Telus in Canada. I was running a custom rom before and decided I wanted to go back to stock before the Kitkat release. Anyway, I flashed the rom from sammobile.com that was for my phone (the link said it was for telus and the file even ends in TLS). So I flash it using odin and everything is perfect, the phone reboots and odin is finished. After that I decided I wanted to clear all my data and apps off the phone as well so I did a factory reset. The next time I turn the phone on everything is working (wifi gps ect) but I can't get on the network and it says I don't have a valid SIM. Also I notice the app packages from telus are not the correct ones and one of them is labelled Bell. So I am guessing the site has the bell firmware for telus as well? This doesn't matter to me but I do need my network running. Do you think it would just be a modem problem? Any information would be GREATLY appreciated guys!

The first and most important question: Do you have a backup of your EFS folder?
If so, you'll be happy. If not, prepare for the worst case scenario.

Seems you have installed a carrier FW on your device and it has SIM LOCKED it. try flashing another.
EDIT: @donalgodon - it's only really EFS when it boot loops and shows Android process not responding etc :good:

Well, that's not exactly accurate. The phone can boot with a corrupted EFS, but you will get no network access (and no IMEI number.)
It's happened to me, so I know it's possible. It's a common symptom of the OP's issues on Samsung devices.

Yeah I am sure I'm not in dire straights yet and lucily I have my backup phone to use for now. I am wondering though, sammobile is the most legit source for stock firmware around, do you guys have any suggestions? Or can I possibly even try just flashing a new modem through odin? (I have never done this but seems easy enough)

True, however, OP states that it was Telus FW that was downloaded and flashed...but it's showing BELL.settings, So the probability of it being EFS is low, it's sim locked the device via the BELL firmware more than likely. Reflashing the correct or unbranded firmware will indeed fix it

Well Sammobile isn't immune to mistakes, but it's rare it happens, they're genuine enough.. You could try the modem, first thing I'd do is test the back up and see if it's the downloaded ROM that has cause the issue.
And yes, you can flash the modem via Odin.

I thought this doesn't work in changing csc code. What's the full numbers you have to input, is it #*272*IMEI# ?

Easiest Root for N915G

So, I was going to use Cf-Auroroot like I have for every other Samsung device I've got but apparently there's an issue with it for the N915G.
What I did was put the latest super su file (i used v2.40) on my external SD card and then in Odin flash the latest TWRP recovery from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/general/easy-steps-stock-odin-n915tuvu1anjl-sm-t2943993 (you can also use the sd card fix from here too, flash in TWRP, just install supersu, then add another flash file and install the sd card fix).
Go to recovery mode and flash super su.
I found it had an error flashing cache but a factory reset fixed this so best done BEFORE setting everything up.
Let phone reset, set it up and you now have root access with a clean install of stock rom.
Happy days.
This worked fine for me and left out the step of flashing CF-Autoroot which wasn't needed.
You will still trip Knox.
I don't know if this will work flawlessly for you or for all models, especially if the bootloader is locked, but theoretically it should.
Good luck guys, happy flashing.
And HAPPY NEW YEAR...

It seems to work on most variants, except those with locked bootloaders..
If it didn't I don't know why.
A lot of people have rooted their device this way....

You should not have many issues with 5.0.1. What you need to do after flashing the 5.0.1...you need to reset to factory setting. Im sure by now you know when upgrading..you still keep data from the kitkat. This may cause conflict and issues. At the moment the only issue i had is sometime i get that contact closed notifications. I have google this issue...seem like it happen to other phones to with early 5.0.1. For me im ok...cause it only happen very rarely...i hope a much later lollipop will fix this issues.

Mentioned locked bootloaders as this will work on other models too...
Got my SM-915G, and got it rooted and TWRP installed following you method. It is working with AT&T and I am getting LTE data speeds, but it is struggling on voice network. hardly any bars are visible on the signal strength icon.
Is there any solution?

Possibly flashing the modem and non-HLOS.bin for AT&T.
I can't really say as I live in Oz and have no problems with voice calls...
I do find that my bars don't tend to go over 3 or more than halfway but that could be due to where I live and the crappy coverage we get here... No problem with voice calls though...
I am not sure if I can install SM-N915A modem on 915G.
Can someone confirm if that is possible, if so, what version?
tell me one thing is xposed framework and freedom app now working on note edge 915G lollipop
Nope. Better stick with Kitkat if you intend to use Freedom and Xposed.

Perfectly good S4 (GT-I9500) rarely connects to cell service after OTA upgrade. Help!

Hi all, I have a GT-I9500 GSM (Iraqi firmware I9500XXUHPB3, 5.0.1) Galaxy S4 which I am using in the US on AT&T's network. Bought the phone secondhand and have been using it for years - worked absolutely perfect. A while back received an OTA upgrade notification and allowed it. Starting immediately afterwards, phone will rarely connect to the cell phone network (not even talking about data here, phone calls/SMS aren't working!). Once every few minutes to every few hours and shortly after reboot it will pick up the signal, but then within seconds it's back to no network connection.
The update installation was pretty quick so I'm not sure what actually got upgraded - I'm wondering if it was the modem? Anyway my question is: what would you suggest to a newbie when it comes to phones (with plenty IT experience in PCs) as a way to try fixing it? I'm perfectly fine with attempting to flash/root it, though I've never done it before, it seems like a straightforward enough process. However there doesn't seem to be a US firmware for this phone. I'm thinking Canadian firmware/modem might be the best way to go? Should I try the modem first, or firmware? I'd love to not have to replace this perfectly functioning (hardware-wise) phone if I can avoid it - don't have the funds for a replacement right now. Many thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Phone details:
Bootloader/PDA: I9500XXUHPB3
CSC: I9500OJVHPB1
Baseband: I9500XXUHPB1
Update: solved ?
(No, not solved. It looked optimistic for a while, but still no signal)
I followed instructions you will find by searching Google for:
"Update Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 with Android 5.0.1 Lollipop Official Firmware" on HowToRootMobile
(I'm a new user here so it won't let me post a link)
to flash a Russian 5.0.1 firmware.
After a reasonable signal for a short while, I'm now back to looking at the circle with a line across it (no signal).
I have the same case but my s4 is I9505 and i did not do anything to the phone not even root it just stopped working

I am becoming increasingly convinced that this is planned obsolescence. Your phone may have installed the same update without prompting. Needless to say my next phone will not be a Samsung.

[INSTALLED] SM-G935U over SM-G935T Firmware? What's so good about Un

Hello XDA Family
I recently flashed G935U Firmware *4API3 over G935T *4APIA, last night to be precise and right off the bat I must say that INDEED IT IS AND FEELS FASTER THAN STOCK *4APIA. You can just UNINSTALL instead of DISABLING bloat apps.
But other than the debloated firmware, what can we get about this Unlocked version? What is so good about it? Why SM-G935U over SM-G935T Firmware?
Pros & cons? Would you go back to stock?
Running September patch.
I'm still on APG1. Do you think it's safe to flash the API3 U firmware over it without taking t-mobiles PIA OTA?
I believe you would get the whitepages and tethering functions back.

I downloaded the SM-G935U TMO ....the one for T-Mobile as there is an UNLOCKED version for every US Carrier.

Installed CSC as XAA variant, so far so good isnt laggy as tmo stock will report battery life after few days, text messages, data and calls are working fine.

Can I flash this onto my G930A?
is it necessary to factory reset??? Something that I've always liked about samsung is that I update using Odin and the apps and confs still the same... but if I have to factory reset, then I will lost everything...

All Samsung's have multiple ways of backing up and restoring. All you have to do is back up using Samsung cloud and when you start your phone it will ask you if you want to restore your phone and then everything will automatically come back to your phone. Factory reset fixes boot loop and other issues

I have an unlocked phone, I'm not sure how atnt works with other Sims or with their phones. I previously had atnt firmware but then switched to TMobile since I have TMobile sim

Yeah I went ahead and flashed it. Works fine, better signal than on the ATT software and all features work

Great, I also found my signal to be better as far as staying connected is concerned. At one point my data kept going out on the atnt firmware and I had to keep restarting the phone or mess with the Wi-Fi calling. I haven't had any problems since I flashed this and plus 8 is faster than 7 so I'm excited to not have to mess with this phone anymore and just leave it up to ota updates.

Which sim card do you have and which carrier provides the phone because then you might have to flash back to 7 and use your carriers official firmware or flash your carriers official 8 firmware.
I have a SM-G930U. I wasn't expecting this to work...and it did flawlessly. Another surprise I got was flashing this firmware fixed my dm-verity issues. Thanks a lot for this thread. It gave a new life to a phone gathering dust on a shelf.

OEM unlock is an option in Developer Options. Has that always been there?

It's there but it doesn't work. It's just a toggle button that would come with most Android builds for the phones that actually have unlocked bootloader.

If there was root before (there is), then I'm pretty sure it will soon be available for Oreo too. I don't see why there wouldn't be unless those individuals who created or found the engineering kernel for MM AND N, aren't around to help out again. If not, back to 6.0 it goes.
HI, Now I'm on a custom rom with Nougat. Sim's carrier is Orange(UE). If I flash this Official Oreo version the phone will become Locked, right? Any idea how to unlock it, no charges? Thanks!
Thanks for the upload. I was trying to see if SamMobile had this up yet but they did not have it up when I checked. I have the MetroPCS variant and it did have 8.0 available on SamMobile already. I am switching from MetroPCS to T-Mobile so this will be perfect to get my phone 100% ready.
