[Q] Flashed stock rom, now no network? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, new to the forums posting but I read here constantly. I have an sm-900w8 note from Telus in Canada. I was running a custom rom before and decided I wanted to go back to stock before the Kitkat release. Anyway, I flashed the rom from sammobile.com that was for my phone (the link said it was for telus and the file even ends in TLS). So I flash it using odin and everything is perfect, the phone reboots and odin is finished. After that I decided I wanted to clear all my data and apps off the phone as well so I did a factory reset. The next time I turn the phone on everything is working (wifi gps ect) but I can't get on the network and it says I don't have a valid SIM. Also I notice the app packages from telus are not the correct ones and one of them is labelled Bell. So I am guessing the site has the bell firmware for telus as well? This doesn't matter to me but I do need my network running. Do you think it would just be a modem problem? Any information would be GREATLY appreciated guys!

The first and most important question: Do you have a backup of your EFS folder?
If so, you'll be happy. If not, prepare for the worst case scenario.

Seems you have installed a carrier FW on your device and it has SIM LOCKED it. try flashing another.
EDIT: @donalgodon - it's only really EFS when it boot loops and shows Android process not responding etc :good:

Well, that's not exactly accurate. The phone can boot with a corrupted EFS, but you will get no network access (and no IMEI number.)
It's happened to me, so I know it's possible. It's a common symptom of the OP's issues on Samsung devices.

Yeah I am sure I'm not in dire straights yet and lucily I have my backup phone to use for now. I am wondering though, sammobile is the most legit source for stock firmware around, do you guys have any suggestions? Or can I possibly even try just flashing a new modem through odin? (I have never done this but seems easy enough)

True, however, OP states that it was Telus FW that was downloaded and flashed...but it's showing BELL.settings, So the probability of it being EFS is low, it's sim locked the device via the BELL firmware more than likely. Reflashing the correct or unbranded firmware will indeed fix it

Well Sammobile isn't immune to mistakes, but it's rare it happens, they're genuine enough.. You could try the modem, first thing I'd do is test the back up and see if it's the downloaded ROM that has cause the issue.
And yes, you can flash the modem via Odin.

Hey guys... update :
Used #*272 and changed csc from bell to Telus. Fixed instantly!
Thanks for your help guys.

I thought this doesn't work in changing csc code. What's the full numbers you have to input, is it #*272*IMEI# ?

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S4 L720 shows Unknown Baseband, IMEI, Software Version and MEID

Hello,
I have a sprint Samsung galaxy s4 L720, unrooted on stock 4.3 baseband version L720VPUAMDC, the problem is that now it shows baseband, software version and IMEI as unknown and also it has an X up in the coverage bars so im unable to make or receive calls. I've never tried to root it or to change it's software. also on few occasions the info about IMEI and baseband comes back and I can make calls again but it just goes back to unknown after a while. also I've tried to reinstall the software and made several factory resets. I just don't know what can I do anymore.
help will be appreciated
thanks.

Really an unrooted MDC firmware?!
You haven't been getting update notices for months and months?
How long have you had the phone?
Was/is it flashed to another carrier?
How did you 're-install' the software? PC Odin? What version of Odin?

I had the same problem. To fix it I just reflash the original rom that it has with Odin. Ex.: Mine is NAE 4.4.2, so I flashed that with Odin PC.

*The only update I got was the 4.3 one.
*I have like 4 months with the phone.
*Yeah it is flashed to another carrier, I'm in a foreign country. it worked smoothly the first 2 months and a half.
*it wasn't me who re-installed the software. I had some cellphone repair shop do it.
hope this helps.
Take it back to them to fix it.

The problem is that it had the issue before they reinstalled the software they just couldn't fix it and they didn't even charge me, so I don't believe it's their fault. also I noticed that I have baseband version L720PUAMDC and Build number JSS.15.L720VPUEMK2. shouldn't these 2 be the same?

No they don't have to.
What they probably did is keep the baseband at MDC because that (or MDL) is needed for doing SIM/Carrier unlock and flashing. And they updated the ROM to a MK2 build.
Obviously they screwed the pooch somewhere.
Your best bet is reading through the few SIM unlock posts here in the forum (there are already a few and have dozens if not hundres of posts!). And using google to maybe look into your specific country/region/carrier flashing options.
Uh oh...

If you update everything via MK2 you'll get everything back...except I'm pretty sure you'll lose the unlock, unless you know how to bring your baseband back to MDC...pretty straight forward, just Odin the modem.
So basically:
1) Odin MK2 full
2) Odin MDC modem
You should have your baseband back and thus everything restored.
This will not affect your 0011 menu edits.
In worst case scenario I will do this pro bono...you just take care of the shipping fees, but you should honestly try, at the very least, the above 2 steps.
before you do anything extreme, go to mobile network settings and set your cdma subscription to nv.
hi
you can repair via z3x box with samsung 16.7
its working very good i already repair alot of samsung l720
(1) flash the phone with original firmware
(2) root your phone with cft auto root file

im just a little worried if anything could go wrong. i mean i have backed up everything... EFS, nandroid backup etc.
So worst case scenario it just wont boot yeh? i can install a G900F stock rom back on through odin and everything will be ok?
You will never know mate. The worst case is your device will be bricked ? it all depends on your nerve mate. There are still chances you could restore your bricked phone to normal by using odin, make sure you have a back up of your stock rom
My advice is to use custom rom

only thing that is pissing me off is that I think my handset got shipped with a faulty gps module and now that my knox counter is 1 my warranty is void. so basically everything on my phone works except for gps

That sucks. I feel for you bro. But just to make sure it is defective. Flash the original region of your phone brand to test before jumping to that unfortunate conclusion
I live in australia and I bought a g900f which I believe is for uk or europe. For australia its g900i and I cannot install the firmware onto g900f. But when I installed gps toolbox it didn't even give me anything. I can understand its one thing to take a long time to get a lock but not seeing any satellites at all is another thing. Ive tried around 10 different gps.conf files designed for australia satellites

Ok, you can do it.
I intended to test it myself first coz I wanted to flash G900F on my G900I in reverse.
Now it's impossible for me coz unfortunately I have been ended up with downloading corrupted firmware due to unreliable internet connection (5 times 2day so far)
If you're desparate to flash G900I, you MUST back up your current firmware PIT file. In case you fail to flash G900I firmware, that PIT file will be used along with your stock firmware to recover your phone to its pristine state.
To do it, please follow this guide , if you're using G900I 16Gb, you could download the PIT file from the OP immediately.
Hope it could help you, please let me know with your attempt. I'd like to help you out in case any thing goes wrong with your phone

ok, so here is the update. since installing G900I firmware failed through odin due to bootloader incompatibility i managed to install it through mobile odin. worked like a charm and even had the telstra bootanimation lol. wifi, bluetooth and everything seemed to be working fine. however my gps is still not working and the G900I seems to have the same gps.conf file as the euro version. i definately believe my gps module is either faulty or not connected to the board properly. is there any app that can tell if the gps module is even there or turned on as no one else is having this problem.

[Q] Reinstall bloatware before update

Hi my i9505 is rooted and I deleted the Vodafone bloat ware from it, my question is this,.......how do I reinstall the bloat ware before I update to 4.4 or don't I need too (I read it's dangerous to update if you have removed bloat ware from your phone, or is this untrue, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kinds Regards
PS Before I forget how come some firmware from some sites say 4.4 Vodafone Australia, and some just say 4.4 Australia, does this means it will work with any i9505 or is it just they forgot to put in the carrier ??, my phone isn't locked but had some of the Vodafone bloat ware on it before I rooted and removed it.
@da20valve
Lol. No one forgot to put the carrier. Some firmwares are unbranded and some are branded.
The branded ones work with the carrier locked phones.
Unbranded ones work with the unlocked ones i.e. those who dont have a carrier locking
And it is safe to flash even if you have removed the bloat as when you flash a new firmware everything will return.
And yes. Backup the EFS folder (use the play store to download a efs backup software with highest rating) before you flash even the Official Firmwares.
"If someone helps, never forget to hit thanks ? "
So does that mean since mine is now unlocked even though it was from Vodafone originally I can use the unbranded ones ? (and if its the wrong one will it hurt the phone), also I just downloaded and Jwarriors EFS Backup Tool and saved it to my SD card, thanks for your help, I hit the thanks button.

hi mate
This is the latest for Optus
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/37801/I9505XXUGNH6_I9505OPSGNH2_OPS.zip/
Instructions
Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.09
Extract Odin zip-file
Open Odin v3.09
Reboot phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait a few minutes
I would do a backup first of your efs folder , any thing important and do a factory reset first.

Should I use the Optus one or the one that just says Australia ?, as mine phone was originally Vodafone would it really matter, if it doesn't why do they bother branding them. why don't they just build one for the 4 main carriers, or does the one that says Australia for all carriers.

IMHO you should flash a non branded one.
Why flash the optus one? Just because youre using optus (guessed) does not mean you have to flash that.
And firmwares are branded because they carry specific modem reqirements for the carriers

You need to do a factory reset and if that doesn't sort it try a different firmware.

[Q] Galaxy S4 (SGH-I337M) says NO MOBILE NETWORK (HELP!)

Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum so please excuse me if this is the wrong place to post this. I'll start from the beginning. I bought a Galaxy S4 (SGH-I337m) from somebody in my city. They said the phone originally worked with Rogers/Fido, but that they switched the logic board on it so now it works with Bell/Virgin. The thing is though, when I put my Virgin Mobile sim card in the phone, it won't let me send texts or make calls. I checked the IMEI and it's not blacklisted or anything.
It says No Service and has the little circle with a diagonal line showing up in the notification bar and when I try to send a text, it says No Network Connection (No signal found for mobile networks). I find it weird because I still get a notification saying that I have an unheard voicemail.
I've tried resetting the phone multiple times. I've also tried flashing both the Bell and Virgin Mobile Lollipop firmwares and that didn't work either. To be honest, I'm not sure how to tell which one I would need to install. I noticed when trying to flash the Bell firmware, that the phone kinda skips to a black screen quickly every time I close an app. I'm assuming that would mean it needs the Virgin Mobile firmware.
That still doesn't fix the mobile network issue though. If anyone could help me out, I would GREATLY appreciate it!!!! Here is a bit of info, I'm hoping it helps. If you need anything else, please let me know.
Model number: SGH-I337M
Android Version: 5.0.1
Baseband Version: I337MVLUGOC4
Build Number: LRX22C.I337MVLUGOC4
Also, in the "Status" menu, I noticed it says:
Service State
Voice: Out of Service / Data: Out of Service
Not sure if that has anything to do with it or if that's normal. Again, if you have any suggestions, PLEASE let me know. I'm super desperate as I can't afford to lose the money I paid for this. Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Coincidentally my girlfriend has a Galaxy S4 of the same model and with Bell/Virgin. I opened up the ABOUT DEVICE menu in both phones and the only other difference I noticed is on hers it says:
SE for Android Status:
"sepf_sgh-I337M_5.0.1_0013"
And mine says "sepf_sgh-I337M_5.0.1_0009"
Does that have anything to do with it maybe?

Okay, will do. I will post the screenshots in about 20 mins. I rooted the phone, installed CWM and am in the middle of flashing the latest firmware again. I forgot to enable USB debugging before flashing originally and I wanted to install CWM to wipe the cache. No idea if that would make a difference but I've been up all night trying anything lol. In all my experience, Bell/Virgin are always interchangeable. Same with Telus/Koodo and Rogers/Fido. I tried putting a Bell sim card in though just now and it still has the problem. It doesnt load any of the signal bars or anything. Oddly enough, when there is no sim card in the phone, the bars show up?

Since it was from Bell, would flashing the Virgin Mobile firmware somehow mess it up? What are the exact steps I would need to take to try to reset it back to stock settings? I'm wondering if I'm missing anything. Or if the APN settings have anything to do with it? I set them to default already and tried adding the Virgin Mobile Canada apn settings as well

No service after rooting

So I got this Note 3 as a gift from a relative. So I don't have much info on it. Apart from it having Vodafone Bloat pre-installed. I have the device on stock rom Android version 4.4.2, and NG1 baseband. So I tried rooting with CF-autoroot and it successfully rooted but unfortunately ever since I rooted it, there's no network. It reads the sim, but it doesn't register to any network. I also installed Xposed right after rooting before realizing the issue when trying to download modules (since samsung has a bad habit of showing me network bars even without a sim)
So now I'm in dire need of a solution since this is my only working phone at the moment and I'll be leaving tomorrow for Eid at a relative's house where I won't have my PC.
I've looked around in the forums but there's no definite solution. No, I didn't flash stock back yet. I'll have to wait till 12AM when my ISP doubles my speed. But any tinkering I can do now?

I will try that!
Flashed thrice and the third time's a charm. Got everything back!
Did you flash the entire rom or just the modem? Let us know in case someone else is facing the same problem. Thanks.
