Hi guys,
I'm running a custom ROM on my G2 D802.
I have a Nandroid back-up of my rooted Stock OS.
If I reinstall my back up and then Factory Reset will that then allow me to take OTA updates from LG again?
I know I will lose root but just wanted to suss out my options.
Thanks in advance.

Can anybody help please?
Thanks
i was looking for an answer for the same question , and i eventually found this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471370&page=7
(read the 1st comment in that page, and then go back to the 1st page for the guide )
Thanks for that.....did you ever try the way I suggested?
no i didn't try it , but as i understood from what i read in few threads, the phone will still state that its rooted and it will not update (even if you remove root using superSU's remove root feature), so you'll need to got to completely stock firmware (by the way , i doubt factory reset will remove the root since superSU -or any other root management app- should be a system app)

Hi, first post -been a long time lurker
Rooted my mytouch and went along uninstalling bloatware using titanium backup, wanted to reinstall a few of the programs and found that I can't.
I really would just like to restore the factory rom on it, did anyone make a copy that I could download?
Thanks
You'll probably need to wait until Clockworkmod gets ported, that way you can restore from a nandroid backup. Alternatively, you should be able to get to recovery and restore back to factory from there. Easiest way to do that is to open up adb and run adb reboot recovery. If the option to restore isn't there, turn off fast boot in options and then power off the phone. Hold volume down and power at the same time until a menu with a few options comes up. Press the volume down button until you get to factory reset and then press the power button to confirm the selection.
You should be able to just through this mofo on there...

Thanks for the suggestions, nothing has helped so far. I was able to restore the phone, but the system apps that I deleted are permanently gone. Thats what I'm looking for...
I downloaded the "stock" tmo rom from the other thread and tried to install it from rom manager with no success. When I'm in recovery, I get the error can't read zip file when I try to apply the stock rom.
So, any other suggestions?
Thx
Only thing I can think of is you're gonna have to wait for a stock nandroid backup to be posted.

Any luck? There are a few people over on the dev board stating future updates may not work without some of the bloatware crap (per their experience on a MT3G), so I'd like to know how you pulled this off if I have to go that route in the future.
You can try this to go back to complete stock.

Thats exactly what I ended up doing. I was running 2.2.1 and had the phone rooted and was able to restore it to stock 2.2.
Worked great, Thanks!
Can someone post the swype apk from this rom? I backed it up in titanium, but it won't restore
Hi all,
I am interested in trying custom roms for various reasons on my G2. With the recent breakthrough in allowing full root, now seems to be a good time to try.
What I don't seem to be grasping is the whole process so, here is what I think* needs to be done, and I'd appreciate a more seasoned person to set me straight
1. Obtain full root via RAGE or oneclick Visionary method
2. Install RomManager
3. Obtain Rom
Here is where I kind of get blurry on the whole topic.
Once I have the files needed, Does RomManager do a nandroid backup so I can revert back in case I want to revert back to stock? Is this how I would revert back to stock or do I need to find the original pre or post OTA rom for the g2?
Does a program like Titanium Backup allow me to backup all of my apps and settings so they are easily restored no matter the rom, or if I revert back to stock?
Thanks in advance all, I have been reading every subset of these forums but I still feel a bit scared to try and wanted to get the facts straight before trying. I'm mostly just concerned that I wouldnt be able to revert back to stock if I had to.

rom manager can perform the backup, wipe, and install of a new ROM all in one go, you just need to tell rom manager where the ROM is on the sdcard and it will ask if you want to backup and/or wipe first

i do not know if titanium backup will restore the settings within the apps, but the backed up apps will work on any custom ROM you install on your phone.
Thank you for making that more clear!
So when wiping for a new rom, you want to wipe the cache, and do a full system wipe as well?
Lastly, now that I have the stock g2 rom backed up (did it manually via recovery, not in the rommanager app) I can flash as many roms I want to try them, but really can revert back to stock based on that backup. I guess what I'm saying is, I dont have to revert to stock before trying out a new rom right?
Thanks again, this is a huge help!
With your ROM backed up, that's essentially a "screenshot" of the state of your phone at that time. So yes, you can jump from ROM to ROM, clearing data, and whenever you're ready to go back to stock, you just restore your stock ROM and pretend nothing happened.
And yes, I recommend wiping everything when flashing a new ROM. Although if you're coming from the same type of ROM (I.E HTC Sense to another HTC Sense) you can probably get away with not wiping data.
And with Titanium Backup, I do reckon that settings are kept. When you restore apps, you're given the option to restore the app or app+data.

Perfect,
Thanks for the help all, much appreciated.
hi, my first post here
just before i go ahead and root my atrix (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016060), i want to make sure i can go back to my factory default (or stock rom if they are the same thing) in case i screw up.
since i am with bell canada, the thread showing how to go back to stock doens't have the bell files (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991072)
so, i found this thread which is useful for backing up the stock rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497511
my question is, am i making things complicated here? i just want to make sure that if i screw up or if there are flaws with the device, i can go back to an unrooted stock phone and get the manufacturer's warranty.
is backing up the stock rom unnessary? will factory reset bring everything back to stock state, even erasing traces of root or attempt to root?
thank you very much in advance
edited: seems like factory reset will not remove root from another thread... but if we still have the stock rom installed, why wouldn't it just overwrite and take away the super user app too?
I screwed up and had to do a factory reset after my 1st tb restore...
Good news for someone else looking for this... I was unrooted after my factory reset - no need to fuse about going back to stock rom to get unrooted

Thank you very much for sharing this, I just got the phone today and I'm gonna root it tonight
Hello friends,
I just went thru this whole ordeal. I reinstalled my 3.2 backup, but it wasn't rooted. That's when I realized root is written to the device and not the rom. I didn't know this. Anyway, after going thru hours of doing this all again and installing my virgin backup with nothing but root access (oh brother, what a pain) I realized something:
Theoretically, if something went wrong, and I had to reinstall my unrooted backup, and since you can't root 3.2, couldn't I just go into recovery (since I would already have that from gaining original root access) and install the rooted 3.2 update over 3.2 non-rooted and it would be rooted all over again? I haven't tried it, but I think that would work, wouldn't it?
Thanks!
Also, I know about Titanium backup, but I don't like it b/c it's left me with corrupted backups and missing data time and time again.

Sorry for necromancing the thread, but I have the same aplication, that I can uninstall, but everytime I do a full wipe it reinstalls again, even with a custom ROM. I now have Prism Barebone rom, so I have root access, how can I manually remove it? I've searched and can't seem to find the installer.
