[Q] LG G2 Or Sony Xperia Z1? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been using Xperia z1 past 5 months....i m getting a chance to exchange it with LG G2(32 gb)....So m in a big confusion..shud i or not?
i look for Battery backup, gestures, Regular updates and non heating device...wat do u think guys?

The LG g2 has excellent battery life. It's on Kit Kat, though I don't know how many stock updates it'll get after that. It has built in heat protection. I don't know what you mean by gestures. It has knock on which is one I think.

No it isn't. The Z1 has basically the same hardware aside from the screen which is better on the G2 and the camera which is better on the Z1. Sonys skin is also noticeably lighter than LGs UI.

The Z1 has a Snapdragon 800 or the equivalent? Nice... I bet the G2 has better battery life though....

It has the same chip as the G2. And battery life is close - the Z1 also has a big battery and it really depends on usage whether the G2 or Z1 gives better battery. I think the G2 will do more web browsing.
To answer the OP, I would probably not exchange now unless you are unhappy with the Z1 or have an issue with it. The specs are so close that the G2 won't be much of an upgrade (though it isn't a downgrade either).

Thanks for all ur advice...i was pulled toward G2 coz of its bigger screen, better battery and its UI...but m doubtfull abt future updates in it and lack of waterresistant and dustproof feature..

my wife has z ultra and i have g2. z ultra has the same chipset, different form factor and bad camera but build quality of sony and waterressistance is better than g2, also sony's screen is not better but as good as g2.
g2 has better support from xda i guess.
if i had a chance i'll go for z1.

[DISCUSSION]Will you buy the Z1?

Looks to be using the new screen technology as seen on the Ultra & that looks a good reason to swap alone. Large camera sensor & 4.3 out of the box is impressive too. I was debating about getting a Z but glad I held off now.

It's not 4.3 out of the box.. At least not on the hands-on's available.
Also.. just the screen technology reason alone to update? Are you kidding me? It's the same screen as Z/ZL but with different software.. maybe different panel.
And what's wrong with Z/ZL screen? Still after months of usage I think it looks really great..better than HTC one for me.
Anyway.. I think it's too big either way
i want z1 NOW!!!:silly:
Have they given a release date for it?
Edit: I've just seen it will be released week commencing 16th Sep. Not long then!!
Preorder has started on clove.co.uk website. The price with VAT is 564£ so a little bit more expensive than the Z at launch.

Definitely will if the reviews are far more positive than Xperia Z.. For now I see that it's a great possibility because of the display, speaker, battery IMPROVEMENTS..:good:
As much as i love Sony, I'll get the new nexus.

Nice hands on by Three UK. Looks like a great phone. I love the new speaker placement, the camera and especially the 3000mah battery who cares about 1mm extra thickness.
No offence, but people who swap a phone after such a short period of usage, are freaks
While the Xperia Z was a big improvement over the previous flagship, I think the Xperia Z1 can be compared to the 'S' models of iPhones (iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4S, etc.): roughly the same model, but with some small improvements (usually CPU and camera). Generally speaking, it's better to wait for a completely new model, than to buy such an 'S' model, because that will be outdated more quickly.
I want to know what the deal is for the U.S.........Sony says will release this month. OK - on what carriers, anyone in the U.S.?? AT&T?? They could have put out some more detailed info like HTC did when they released the One

Not quite mate. Usually the "S" updates from Apple get just software improvements and a slight GPU or CPU bump.
Here we get a much improved:
-GPU (dubbed 50% faster by Sony),
-much improved CPU Snapdragon 800 is the best processor in the world right now,
-redesigned casing for true premium aluminum feel, with a dedicated camera button, and a new speaker placement
-22% greater battery should be a great improvement
- a brand new camera lens with new stabilisation technologies
-new display with Triluminos technology
I would not call all of the above a mere "S" update
I believe it is being released with 4.2.2 not 4.3 but 4.3 is not far off.

Yes, same what apple and samsung does every year. Minor update unless u play games on your smartphone. My battery lasts for more then 12 h witch is 40 calls and about 50 msgs every day and I still have 20% left when back home. Camera is fine for me and I dont fell any slow downs or hangs while using XZ. Yes if u are a tech freak sure this might be a major update, most people would be happy to stay with XZ for a while.

The only thing worth updating is the new camera but it will not justify the price diference when u sell XZ to get X1. For 100 or 150 pounds u can get a nice camera few times better then in any smartphone.

I do agree with you that for an average user the upgrade is not gonna be very significant. Judging by the fact we are discussing this at xda-developers forums I am not taking you for an average user. I am not saying I am gonna upgrade as soon as it comes out but maybe wait a month or so for the price to decline. Xperia Z is a great piece of hardware though.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk 4
Lets just wait and see for some reviews and maybe demo models at the carrier shops. Maybe I will decide to change as well but first I need to put my hands on it The price should drop after 3 months from release date. Till then we would know everything about it. I also hope that Sony will still support XZ in future.

I wonder if they fixed the waterproofness of the phone, since xperia z had issues after some time. Interestingly enough, the frame seems to have a plastic "ring" on the top and the bottom wich was not evident on the xperia z. Wonder if it's there to keep the back plate from lifting? Bu that's just an assumption.
All in all, the z1 is rated ip58, which is higher than z's ip57.
I will definitly not switch to Z1.
I like my XZ C6603 as it is now, the given Features are good enough this time.
As Apollo mentioned, better to wait for a completely new one.
Nevertheless the Z1 is a good step forward (Battery 3000 mAh :good.
Will you swap to the Z1?

I thought it was using the same screen technology as the Ultra with the wider viewing angles that brings?
Sorry all about saying it came with 4.3 out the box as I thought that's what I had read in the initial articles.

Note 2 vs Xperia Z1

The question is : Should I sell my Note 2 and get Xperia Z1? I have the Note 8 3G, so having two "notes" is a little superfluous.

Z1 seems like the perfect phone on paper, at least for me. Wait till users get it so u know what is in about it.
I'm actually thinking about the Note 3 or the Z1. The Z1 looks fantastic! But I think I'd miss the functionality of the S-Pen. I'm going to wait for a few reviews to make a decision. Not to mention I won't be buying a phone until Dec. at the earliest! haha.
I'm thinking of Sony Z1, LG G2, iPhone 5S
if the Z1 speaker were not so low , and the screen was not covered by a protection film that gets easily scratched, and if removed the sony logo gets removed too, I would have bought the Z1

LG G2 is a great choice, actually. But like it's been said, you're gonna miss the S-Pen funcionality. Otherwise, the G2 has OIS, the SGN3 not. Of course, the 3 GB are sweet!
I love the G2, but I am not too happy with LG about their update schedule. I love updates! Before I commit to Note 3 or Z1 or even the G2, I'm going to wait to see what the Nexus 5 has to bring! Who knows, maybe I'll just stick with the Note 2 ^.^ It's still a damn great device!
I have a Z1 on hand. Anything you'd like to know? Still getting the Note III, but the Z1 would be my second choice.

Yeah!
Battery life?
Screen quality? I know this was a big problem with the Z (original)
Speaker quality? I know the Z had low volume and sounded metallic.
Thanks!

Battery life was markedly better than the Z, but I wouldn't put it up with the Note II - unfortunately I haven't been able to test the battery life in a properly quantifiable manner, but based on my usage of the device I'd think ~4 hours screen on over LTE would be possible. It gets rather hot when under load, I suppose you can always dunk it in a cool glass of water mind you.
Screen quality - vastly superior to the Z. Could never have lived with that. This I can live with. The viewing angles still aren't quite there, yet they're so much better than the Z that I was happy enough. Washes out and is especially bad at certain angles, but dead on it's very nice and gets quite bright, though sunlight visibility isn't fantastic.
Speaker was louder than I recall the Z being. Nothing special, though, I prefer the Note's.
Happy to help.

Suggest you ask this in the LG G3 Forum - they are far more likely to own one and impart USEFUL information rather than just individual opinion and conjecture without actual G3 ownership.
I would also recommend that you view/read the various Reviews around that offer fairly unbiased comparisons between the 2 devices

I have owned both devices.
The LG G3 battery time will be disappointed. Sony STAMINA mode is very nice feature.
Instead, the LG G3 Replacement Battery.
G3 is faster focusing. Otherwise, no special features.
On the other hand, Z2 has many features, including the Professional mode.
LG G3 is a little less performance, but similar specification.
I do not recommend the LG G3, but the product of our country.
just like samsung, lg phone is ugly
Let's not forget the G3 has no development at all.
G3 isn't better as per your requirements.
It suffers from battery and performance issue, thanks to the QHD display.

The G2's had a lot of development, so I'd assume the G3 would, too. Besides, it's recent to the market. Give it a little time; I'm sure the development would get going.
Now, to answer the question, I wouldn't suggest upgrading from the Z2. There are just two areas I believe the G3 scores over the Z2. One, is the display. It's simply amazing. It's not to say the Z2's display is bad, but nothing rivals the QHD panel on the G3 as of yet. Two, the G3's got a user-replaceable battery, and that's something that truly comes in handy if you're a really heavy user. On the downside, the battery does drain pretty rapidly, and the phone does feel quite slippery, too. Otherwise, mostly everything is pretty much the same. So, unless you're a new buyer that's torn between the two, I'd suggest you stick with the Z2 for the moment. Putting in the extra money just to upgrade on the display isn't a prudent choice.

I just switched to G3 and couldn't disagree with you more. The Z2 was way more laggy and the G3 doesn't heat up anywhere near what the Z2 does.
LG G3:
- worse camera (except focusing)
- bad performance (even worse in games)
- bad display (low contrast, sharpening artifacts, not even SRGB color gamut, low brightness)
- plastic build
- overheating even when browsing
- battery life far worse than Z2
- worse speakers

I have the Z2, OPO and M8 currently, had the G3 for couple of weeks. I didn't find difference in performance between Z2 and G3 that different but found the Z2 to be little more smooth after using for longer durations. Display wise I like M8 the best out of all, followed closely by G3, Z2 and lastly OPO.

What?! No way. You must be blind or in denial. I owned both devices at the same time and the G3 was way laggier. It stuttered doing basic UI animations (opening the app drawer, switching between apps, going back to the home screen). For a top end phone to stutter like that is just unacceptable. I ended up selling it and keeping the Z2. Even my G2 with custom rom was better than the G3.
used Z2 for a month, never even come close to being hot. Only time it over heat is when you do 4k vid recording, which does up to 8-10 mins now after new FW update. LG and Sammy don't get reported about overheating as much because they both put 5 mins cap limited for 4K recording. Battery for sure is worse than Z2 even without using stamina mode on z2.
Havent had a G3 in my hands to directly compare, so my opinion might be slightly inaccurate/biased,but here goes.
For me there simply is no other android device available with to build quality of the Xperia, it does not feel like a cheap piece of junk in your hand but like a premium device justifying its price tag, not that im saying the G3 does, but maybe. The camera on the Z2 is above average and certainly good enough for me even with CM11 running it.
The battery life of the Z2 is where in my opinion the Z2 excels (When using STAMINA mode), it simply magical. I have also read a few articles of the G3's QHD display being washed-out and annoyingly hard to read outdoors.
For me the pinnacle of android bliss is this: Xperia + CyanogenMOD !
Every time I tried to use it outdoors it would be way too dim to use and throttle itself. Even when I used lux it would cut it down too dim for outdoor use.
G3 is a "wish" that not came true.
QHD displays will be effective ONLY with 64bit SOC and powerfull GPUs +lot of RAM. (4GB @1GHz+ minimum)
S5 LTE-A version with Snapdragon 805 left only 850+MB of free RAM having 3GB!
It's a overkill gimmick at the moment.
Z2 is the best all around smartphone out there, PERIOD.

Help me choose a new phone!

Hey there!
I was planning to buy a new phone, and zeroed down on xperia z2, or LG g3. I checked all the online reviews, but wanted xda user reviews
Also, the battery life of g3 is significantly lesser than that of the z2? Z2 is touted to have the best battery backup. My average usage pattern will consist of lots of WhatsApp, and around 3 hours of music. What would you suggest?

My younger bro already have this LG G3. Im impressed. Less bloatware(stockrom) than sammy rom. Smooth. Great gameplay on HD games. Superb camera quality
OnePlus One?
Have you thought about the OnePlus One? Idk where you're from but here in Malaysia we can get the OnePlus One pretty easily no invite system or what not and its great phone so It comes with colorOS though and no CyanogenMod labelling but you're on XDA so you can always flash CM or some other rom if you wish
You should really consider the Opo.. I got mine last week.. It's the best performing device on the planet according to benchmark tests.. And oneplus are getting rid of that stupid invite system in October..

HTC One M8 if you want sexy phone, which is super fast, smooth, and if you don't care about camera quality and ULTRA BIG cropping.
No other phones,I would choose M8.
Instead of z2 you could wait for z3?
Go for the Iphone 6 !
Just kidding
It all depends on what you are going to use the phone for.
The Note 4 will probably kick but regarding hardware and performance, great note functionality but if you don’t like big phones .. it’s not for u
Seriously, there are many great phones out there (many already mentioned above) so pay a visit to your local phone house and check them out … after all it is you who will own and use the phone …
For me .. I just ordered the Note 4 but thats because i have to compensate for my small Di..
As said, you're best seeking advice in the General thread that has a massive sticky for "what phone should I buy?!?!?!?!?!?!"
Anyway, I'm leaning toward the LG out of those two. As someone else said, if you can wait for the z3 it might be a tighter race, but the LG seems to be an impressive phone. Read a lot of loving reviews and playing with it in-store was a good bit of fun. Don't have a ton of experience with the z2 but I think the LG has it beat ATM.
I vote for Nexus X.
Or LG G3.
LG G3
My next phone ill be LG G3. Just waiting when my i9300 dies
Just got a G2 very cheap yesterday. I've flashed a G3 ported rom and OMG that thing is smooth. I'm still going to keep my i9300 for serving me well 2 and a half years
I have a G3 and a G2. Gave the G3 to my wife. G2 is the better device. Wins hands down in terms of speed and battery life which is just incredible. Also it has active development unlike the G3 which does not have bootloader unlock yet.
the z3 seems like a winner
I would go for the LG.
And if you still have a bit more patience to see what the new Nexus will be.

z3 is the way to go

It's time to say goodbye my friends! :(

After all thease months, after all good and bad moments it's time to say goodbye and move on to my next device.
I bought LG G3 couple of weeks ago and today I'm selling my Xperia Z. It's so hard to move on because Xperia Z reminds me on true legend, Xperia X10i. It's such a great device to have. In fact , after using G3 for couple of weeks I'm so disappointed with this device (laggy software, not so great build quality) so I'll probably sell it and buy a real device, Xperia device (Z2 or Z3).
I'm gonna miss this forum so much, I'm gonna miss all You guys. Good luck and take care! :good:
So, the G3 isn't great then? I'm looking at getting a new device next month and it was a possibility, as reviews seem to be all positive. The Z3 is also on my list along with the N6.
I'm leaning towards the N6 because of ease of root etc and the huge development support that comes with the Nexus devices, but I'll see closer to the time as Sony has established itself as my current best Android OEM because of the great experience I've had with the Z.
Anyway, good luck for the future and I'm sure I'll see you around.

LG G3 has beautiful display, one of the best out there, but 1440 x 2560 res is unnecessary because you can't see the difference between fullHD and this with naked eye. Camera is ok but not breathtaking (I think that LG use Sony 13 mpx module), Lollipop ROM is laggy, signal strength is lower than on other devices. Battery life is ok but not great, double tap to lock/unlock function is fantastic. If you look for development support I can't recommend you this phone, at least for now. On the other side I tested Xperia Z3 last week. Fantastic device, great looking, screen is beautiful, stock rom is fast and smooth, build quality is excellent. Battery life is insane, nice speakers, and camera is fantastic. I'm so in love with that phone man, I hope that Z3 is my next phone. And thanks for nice words.
I had a real bad experience with an LG device. The Optimus 2X was released with a lot of publicity as the first dual core Android phone and then abandoned with buggy software and only 2 updates in 2 years. I promised myself never to buy from them again, but the G3 was tempting me. Hearing your thoughts has put me off again!
So, Z3 or N6 it is probably.
Hope to see you around on the forums if I get a Z3.
Cheers.

Yeah, you never knew if the thing would be unresponsive when you picked it up to use it. The stock rom was woeful as well. The only reason I didn't trash it was because of the great developer support and custom roms.

If i were you i'd wait for the Z4.
Or go for the Z3, the Nexus isn't as good as it should be, the AMOLED is causing major issues.

I haven't really looked into anything yet, as I don't tend to start looking around at prices etc until I really am ready to buy a new device. The Z is still actually really usable despite being almost 2 years old now, so there's no urgent need.

MWC isn't THAT far away, and if the Z4 is announced then expect a Z3 price drop. The upgrades for the Z4 won't be game changers - an 810 with a better GPU, a slightly nicer display that may well be QHD, improvements to the camera I expect. With the amount of time people use their phones nowadays, battery life simply must improve. And with rumours that the actual Sony imaging department will handle the image processing, maybe the Z4 will get a stand-out camera. I really hope the RAW API's will be implemented by Sony. I'm looking at an upgrade too, maybe a Oneplus Two, or if they make a Nexus 5 2015 edition I'd bite. The Xperia Z was my first smartphone and I'd like to try other android devices.
Have any of you guys seen the new ASUS ZenFone that's to be released in March? It looks like an absolute animal of a phone and I'm very tempted to snap one up as soon as preorders are available because of its fantastic price and even better spec to follow, but I'm worried about the developer support as there hasn't really been a great deal of support for ASUS' previous ZenFone generations, do you guys think that the price would pull more developers in?

Is that the one with the Intel processor? Yikes, as far as I know, developer support on those devices is nowhere near the level of your standard Snapdragon phones. Exynos processors in Samsung's are very common and even those are shunnes., with developers working on Snapdragons instead.
Quad HD sounds nice on paper but it doesn't bring any visual differences that your eyes can detect. Except the low battery indicator flashing more frequently?

I have used a LG G3 for more than a while.. I couldn't see anything wrong with it on KK.. Compared its display with a Z3 and saw the difference in detail and also under sunlight it seemed better than Z3.. Ofc 2k comes into play as well.. So it would be wrong to compare. Also the gestures are nice on any high end LG phone which Xperia's miss officially.. And battery life on G3 is amazing for the h/w it has.. I hardly saw a hiccup even the LG UI.. Camera is decent(Probably same as XZ).. Atleast it seemed the same when i compared my XZ cam with it.. G3 is a beast phone and i think their LP fw update might be buggy since its just initial update.. Ofc u have to wait for another 1 or 2 bug fixing updates to experience the best of LP on any phone for that matter..

I agree with you, but I sold it yesterday anyway. I ordered Z2 this morning and that's my next phone. Cheers.

Hi
What's Google's policy regarding transferring paid for apps from one phone to another? Can they be shared on 2 phones?

You just have to sign in on the other device. I have a couple of phones and a tablet on the same Google account and can use paid apps on all of them with no issues.

We don't really need a new thread for everyone who leaves to another device. If you already have a thread you can post it there, but a new thread isn't needed.
