[Q] Whats my firmware?

Hi! I bought a GS4 just today..... GT-I9500 Octa core, and i live in Mumbai, India
I want to root my S4, but there's a debate regarding some russian firmwares saying that they cannot be rooted/ have a different method.....
My question is how do i know whether my firmware is russian??? or of any other country...Any help will be appreciated

You could always root by flashing a custom kernel instead of the root only methods. Those are the ones that won't work now. And the latest Russian firmware shares the same build number with 20 other firmwares of different countries. You can see that here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2257645 So it doesn't matter if the firmware is of Russia or some other country. They'll share the same problems.

Download Odin 3.07 from here. Install Kies on your computer so you can get the necessary drivers to recognize your phone in download mode.

This is the kernel I use and I would recommend it but you can choose any other. They all work great. One you download the kernel and install kies, run Odin. On the right there will be options to add files. Click the button that says PDA and you'll be able to navigate to a file. Find the kernel you downloaded. (Should be in .tar file extension. If it is a .zip then unzip it.) Then just click start and watch the magic.
Oh yeah and you'll have to connect your phone in download mode for that. To do that just turn the phone off and hold the power button + volume down + home button.

Dude, in ODIN, I cannot see the yellow box i.e. COM , tried installing drivers and then re plugging but that yellow box cannot be seen.....Help?

Turn on your phone. Switch debugging mode on. Plug it in. Let the drivers install. Unplug in. Reboot it into download mode. Plug it in again. Let me know if that works.

Tried all possible methods....even yours, also restarted my PC...but the yellow box still cant be seen.......

Odin is the best method Odin won't turn yellow but the 1st box.Will be little sky blue it means ur device is added also see below box will say added once in download mode

Nothing happens, not even sky blue....it doesnt even finch....
ODIN stays the same way as it was before plugging in....

u are putting your device into download mode rite
if not off the mobile press volume down+home and then press power till a screen pops then press volume up and connect in Odin it will work

Of course...i'n in ODIN mode with the green android and below is written "Downloading......" "Do not turn off target!!!"

BTW did drivers got installed without any issue?? if yes and still the issue persist then try with another data cable too and also check ur USB ports .. :fingers-crossed:

Changed 4 usb ports, drivers installed without any error, even used ifferent cab;es ..... :/

can u tell me which OS ur running as I used to have issue with Windows 8 it does not detect the phone in cases for driver signing issue I had nightmare rooting my Sony z with Windows 8 and later changed it to Windows 7

BTW did your PC detect your phone when connected???

[Q] No 3g

i have a Samsung s4 and when i try to connect to 3g ( Settings > Mobile networks > Network mode WCDMA/GSM or WCDMA only) It connects to 3G ( h+) and after a few minutes the network drops and i do not have reception and the only way of getting reception is to go to Settings > Mobile networks > Network mode and change to GSM only (2G) . If i leave it on 2g its fine but the thing is i do not want 2g i am paying 20 euro a month for 3g which i cannot use. All my APN settings are correct as i can connect to 2g and 3g(momentarily). My network provider cannot fix the issue

Go to Apps - Settings - More - About device and make us a screenshot (Home button + Power button) pls :angel:

U are using OMEGA Rom. U have 2 options now:
1. In Build Number u see XXUEML6 (You will have to flash this firmware if u want all go ok)
or
2. Flash STOCK ROM I9505XXUBMEA
or
3. Go to the correct OMEGA ROM thread and ask there

What u gona do? Tell me the option. I recommend u flash STOCK firmware for see if we have more problems. But is your choice
*EDIT: If u select flash stock firmware, u will have to conect ur phone to Kies 3 and make me a screenshot

I have Kies installed on my Home Computer, Do you mean take a screenshot of the Kies screen?
If so i will not be able to do it for another hour or so as i am in work

I did not have time to get on a computer last night and i tried installing Kies in work today but i do not have sufficient privileges so i tried *#1234# and it came up with Ap - 19505XXUEAML6 CP -19505XXUBMEA CSC 19505VFGEML1
I bought the phone unlocked in Ireland , i do not know where it ogrignianted from. It could be from Italy

- Download and unrar this file
- Put ur phone in Download Mode (Vol Down + Home button combi... volume up then)
- Conect it to ur PC
- Open Odin in ur PC
- Untick Autoreboot
- Flash modem (Select the button PDA/AP for it and select the file u downloaded in step 1)
- Click Start and wait till finish
- Put ur battery out and in again
- Go into Download Mode again
- Flash Modem once more
- Put ur battery out and in again and reboot ur phone
- If this doesn't work, try repeating the flash process again while rebooting manually and with auto-reboot option turned off.
* EDIT: When u finish this process, Go to Apps - Settings - More - About device and make a new screenshot

driver
When i put the phone in download mode and click flash with odin my computer cannot find the driver for MSM8960. I have installed Kies and connected phone
Any Suggestions?

When u do all that process u have to CLOSE completely Kies

Unusual problem with SAMSUNG KIES!!

I HAVE GT-I9505, and I have installed stock frimware.
The phone is not rooted!!!
When you connect the phone to Samsung kies3, and go to frimware upgrade and initialaizing, I get a message GALAXY S4 (GT-I9505) DOES NOT SUPPORT INITIALAIZING.
I trayed to reinsttal kies, but same thing hapens.
I tryed to install drivers too but nothin. The same sh..t again.
PLEAS, any suggestions!!

I havent used kies actually, but you could also flash a stock firmware via odin to your s4 without voiding warranty

Yep. Try this:
1. (Dont conect ur phone to ur pc for do this step) Open Kies3 normally and update it to the latest version (Menú Information - Check for updates). It will ask u for uninstall the old for continue the installation, select always YES)
2. Use other USB conector of ur pc to conect ur smartphone
3. I hope it will solve the problems

I olredy do that, and nothing.
I do not want to flash with odin. I have same information that I need to be intact.

1. Make a backup data folders of ur Internal Memory to ur pc
2. Factory reset ur phone:
- From your home screen press the apps icon in the lower right corner.
- Find and press the settings icon.
- In the upper end of the screen press the accounts tab.
- In the bottom of the next screen press the Backup and reset button.
- Press the factory data reset.
- Read the info on your cell phone screen and hit Reset device.
3. Open Kies 3 and conect ur phone now
4. I hope now all is ok
5. Copy back the data folders and install again ur loved apps

It is not a point to delete all my app. If I dod that, I will can not use some of my bisnis apps. That is the point. That I need kies.
Can I insttal frimware with odin without wipig my data?

Ummm.... what I don't understand.... why do you want to initialize your device?
As far as I can remember, my S2 (I-9100) did not support that with stock software.
And I just checked, my S4 (I-9505) does not support that either...

You right. Mine cant initialize either. Im using Kies 3 only for update my firmware and i dont need initalize nothing either. Ty anyway :highfive:

You dont need initialize nothing for update your phone. Anyway ur phone have the latest firmware installed how u can see in the first pic u added :highfive:

I did not understand fully what you mean. But i dont have twrp backup my phone is dead and when conect to pc add HID usb and not add in com port

you need GNQC and stock rom flash the rom in emergency mode..

Help!! LG Spirit bricked !!

As the title says LG spirit is bricked now. It doesn't show anything, no download mode or factory reset menu. It just vibrates when I press the power button. Can someone help me with a fix for it ?

Sorry, I can't, tried it but now it wouldn't show in device manager also neither it now vibrates when I press the power button. But it shows the battery error when I pull it out while charging.
