Hey whats up guys,
Im looking at getting a z1 and found a good deal on a Z1s. However, being exclusive to T-mobile, it won't be as common as the Z1. So I'm afraid that ROM variety won't be as great as the normal Z1 or anyone knows if the Z1 ROMs are compatible with the Z1s?
What do you guys think?
Nope, they're not, simply, different models.
Try to get the z1 and not the z1s,the updates on the z1 are more faster than the z1s,that phone have some disvantage.
Good luck.

Z1s has a locked BL too so I don't think it even has root at this point.
If I remember correctly you would not get LTE service on Tmobile with the Z1.

There are several variants, and there is an international Z1 variant that was LTE that works with T-Mobile, I think it's the C6903.
The main issue with buying an international version I think is the lack of warranty in the U.S. since it's not sold directly by Sony in the states. The only way to get a warranty on the "Z1" is to buy the Z1S from T-Mobile The regular unlocked Xperia Z is sold in the U.S. by Sony however and has a warranty if you want to go that route... but you'd get the Qualcomm S4 instead of the 800.
EDIT - Here is the international version that works with T-Mo in the U.S., but as I said, no warranty.

I don't think so. The Z1 is sold on sony's online store. I think you can get the 6902 and 6906 from Sony.com. The 6903/6906 will get LTE on tmo
Locked or not it's still a damn good phone.

According to this article, the Neo has passed the FCC now. It also says that AT&T will pick this phone up. That doesn't really follow that they will carry both the Arc and the Neo, so it's gotta be one or the other. Anybody have any insider information?

It took AT&T to adopt X10 after more than half a year and probably we will see ARC or NEO with att by Oct.
ATT doesn't respond
Rogers doesn't respond
SE US or Canada don't respond either.
Good that we are in age of communication. Thats shame/
It may be that they both, arc and Neo, will be sold through SonyStyle unlocked just like the X10 mini, mini pro and X8. But, since Rogers runs the same bands as AT&T, it may not be clear cut as to which carrier will carry it and which one will not.
Anybody in Canada have the Xperia Z yet?
If you have the 6603 model (LTE capable) can you post how good the connection is?
Apparently 6603 will have problems with LTE and 3G networks here, hence why the Z is not coming to Canada.

I do hope it works well on only band 7 on fido's network..as advertised.
Will let you know once I get it, hopefully in 2 weeks or so..

Thanks.
I'm on Rogers currently, but will be switching to Telus next month.
Hopefully they work well too.
I am considering the 6602 model if that works flawlessly here as I do not care about LTE that much, though would prefer 6603 if it actually works well.
Hspa+ should work fine on Telus on 850 MHz but lte not.
Related to 02 version, imo, it's not worthwhile, I'd wait for the rumored 6606 supporting aws.

any rumored dates for the 6606?
I don't want to wait forever.... might as well get the HTC One or Galaxy S4 instead if we have to wait until April or longer.....
I just ordered the 6603 from Handtec UK.
Once it arrives I will also post results on LTE and 3G performance.

Why would you buy the 6603?
I am pretty sure won't work in Telus lte network.
I am quite at peace with the lack of Canadian lte bands but I am ok with fido myself..
As rumors go, the 6606 will be here in march.

Couldn't find the 6602 anywhere to purchase and not enough info on the 6606.
I'll be furious if Sony actually release the 6606 next month.
They are really doing a poor job handling the information and distribution of this phone.

It's on the list of PS certified devices in the US along all other Z models. And some insider info confirmed it's coming to the US (most likely ATT) and thus Rogers will have it too, as usual.

Well, I went to check out the T-Mobile branded Xperia Z C6606 at the Sony Style store and was disappointed to see that the bootloader is locked.
I was trying to get information online if it was locked or not but couldn'tget any confirmation. I know that it'sprobably locked by T-mobile, but I was hoping.

I've seen some phones in the past that were sold by T-Mobile or other carriers but were not bootloader locked. With T-Mobile's new business model and the fact that Sony was selling it outright at their stores, you would think that it should be unlocked.
All phones have locked bootloaders when they come from the store. 'Bootloader unlock allowed' means if it is allowed to unlock it yourself or not, but doing so will void your warranty and wipe your DRM keys (which are needed for Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2, MusicID/Gracenote, etc.).

sim locked and locked bootloader are two separate things. >.>
usually when some stores states "selling unlocked xperia/galaxy/iphone/ etc.." it means the phone is unlocked and it can be used anywhere else. When you purchase a phone from a store (Sony store) or carrier (At&T) it is locked to them. In other words, the phone cannot be used with another sim card like T-Mobile, since the phone is locked to At&t.

I totally understand what is sim and boot lock.
I've had in my hands a couple of Xperia devices from that company (Yoigo), one Xperia Mini Pro I think, and the other one a Xperia Z, and both had "Bootloader Unlockable: Yes" on the service menu.
I've read that some custom ROMs can still be flashed on this phone without unlocking the bootloader. Is this true?

T-Mobile isn't really known for locking bootloaders. Verizon on the other hand... When it comes to locked boot loaders it seems to be like this.
Locked carriers:
Verizon
at&t
Mostly unlocked carriers:
Sprint
T-Mobile
Phone brands locked:
HTC
Sony Xperia
sometimes LG
Phone brands not locked
Huawei
Samsung
This has just been my experience.

This maybe a stupid question, but I've never flashed a ROM on a locked bootloader. Will the roms still be able to be bloat and CIQ free?
i understand that the bootloader is locked for the t-mo version (c6606), but what about root?

locked bootloader has nothing to do with its ability of being rootable or not.

gotcha... just found out that the DooMLoRD Easy Rooting Toolkit was just updated to v17 to support my device...
all good now :good:
now i just need to upgrade to 4.2.2
I played with the TMO version today and find it inferior compared to my own C6602. The first problem is the branding and bloatware - yes it is bloated carrier style and a lot of TMO notifications where shown on the demo unit. One of the demo units had noticeable lag, much worse than my C6602 back in March on .350. The other one were smoother.
I managed to put System Tuner on one of them - it runs the standard Interactive governor and 384-1551 is the used frequencies.
The price tag was very high - $610, $579 with "appropriate plan". More expensive than in the Sony Store for an unbranded, unlocked and superior C6602.
I just don't see any reason to buy the TMO version when there is the C6602 available for less money (albeit at a small difference) that can be bootloader unlocked and optimized. Paying MORE for a carrier branded device? No way.
To those that feel that they need to talk LTE with me as a reason to buy the branded edition: wait for the Honami instead - it will offer a superior LTE radio, which means that it can be used on many carriers. I base this assumption on the nice multiband LTE radio that the Z Ultra offers.
After playing with the T-Mobile version, my recommendation of the C6602 instead is stronger than before.
To those that want to argue about prices: use a credit card instead if $539 is "too much".
t-mobile's wifi calling feature is the ONLY reason why i went with the C6606... having lte is nice too, i guess

I don't get the reason the have WiFi Calling when there is a little thing called Google Voice. I can make free calls to the whole US that way and even configure it as a 100% IP phone with GrooveIP. For international calls, I am using Viber or Voice (my relatives in Sweden use Viber so we have free calls).
To me, carrier bloat and locked bootloaders are total dealbreakers and I can't really see how WiFi Calling can compensate.
LTE? I will get it when I can buy a standard, unlocked device and use it. As long as I need carrier branding in order to use it - I say pass.

This was depressing this morning. I have been waiting for the C6906 too, but now my fear is that it will be a T-mobile exclusive like the Z was. Or, maybe it's just delayed, but hopefully we can find a way to order from Canada.
I found the C6903 below the $649 asking price from the Sony store, so it's not the end of the world. Glad to see these aren't in the $700's this time around.

Same here. I'm planning to get an unlocked version the moment they hit NY but I want to make sure it's fully compatible with AT&T LTE.
If someone has more info please post. Thanks
http://sam.factoryoutletstore.com/
I called customer service there and they said their devices are fully compatible with ATT and that includes LTE - unlocked phones can be bought right now for $799 - a bit more than you will pay if you wait for the official release. The only problem I see is that they don't tell you what model number beyond it being the SM G900 - They don't give the letter after the G900 -- and as we don't know how cross compatible the devices are going to be you run a big risk of buying a phone that won't have much dev support -
That is my take on it anyway - when I called and asked they said you could buy now and they ship immediately.
Good Luck -

I never said it was better - but the difference between the two - is the link you sent is pre-order - shipping on April 11th - the link I sent - they say they have the phones in stock now and they will ship immediately. So I guess for anyone who doesn't want to wait - they can - but they will have to pay more. And like I said, they don't give the model numbers - might be 900f I really don't know

So does that mean that our only hope for an LTE compatible S5 is the AT&T version? I thought for previous galaxy models people were able to import unlocked models that were compatible with AT&T LTE. Has that changed?

Got it. But then it comes with T-Mo bloatware and my goal is to order a model with no carrier bloat. Ideally a Samsung-original LTE compatible version would be perfect but not sure if it exists.
Get the Vodafone one! I read it's compatible with AT&T, has little to no bloat, and can be unlocked from Vodafone's site. I still don't get why Samsung won't just give us an unlocked phone for the US though...
