I don't know what is wrong with my Note3 N9005 it restarted by itself without any reason. It happened twice in this week already. I have been using it since the beginning of March bought it brand new on ebay.
The current FW is 4.42. I am suspected the cause is the apps I dowloaded but just don't know which one. Does any one have any ideas?

Hi.
I had same problem - even 2-3 restarts per day. In my case, someone of these apps caused problem (i installed them every time I wipe phone or install firmware, doesn't matter custom or stock).
1. Timely
2. Facebook
3. Facebook Messenger
4. Mx player
5. Plantronics hub
6. Cyberon Voice Commander Pl
Since few days I'm on stock XUENC2 ETL firmware, and I only upgraded stock apps and istalled shazam. In next few days i try to install Cyberon.
I think mx player could be the culprit. I say this because I have 3 different players on my phone. Every now and again when I use them my phone goes into spasm!
It stops paying anything, I lose all sounds then gradually I lose the ability to use my phone until I restart it.
I've had it Sent to Samsung but it returned with same problem.
I now only use one player and as yet it's not done it since. .

Uninstall all apps you installed just before it started? And then re-add them one by one until it starts rebooting again. Then you'll know which.

My N9005 (BTU) was rebooting 3 or 4 times a day 'til I tried this. Worked for me.

I am gonna try it. My phone restarted again today and it was sitting inside my belt case I heard the restarting sound, So it was self restarted even it was not in use, wow!
My previous phone was a China made ZOPO ZP990 before that was OPPO Find 5 both didn't do self restart like this and both are cheaper than Note 3 but the Note 3's been giving me the self restarting, lagging even hangs like a computer a few times. I think I should email Samsung and see what they say. Thank you for your idea tho.

I have many posts about this device rebooting randomly and freezing. I believe the problem is the RAM. You see, I don't suffer from this problem anymore, not by unchecking this and removing that or by factory resetting but because I have my phone set to "noop" and "performance" [300-2265] in SetCPU. I did this so that the RAM doesn't really get a chance to "keep" a process running for too long. It forces the phone to do what is has to immediately and with all the necessary processing power is can muster.
Battery life? I get 20+ hours comfortably unless the screen brightness is set too high, which is a "duh" in my opinion.
If you do a search for "freezing" or "random reboots" you will see that you aren' alone.
Sorry for writing it another time, but from my experience, this and other topics with freeze and restart problem, are hard to find.
After few months of crashing, and restarting, I send my Note to service center on warranty with knox 0x1. They changed mainboard. Currently testing, but it seems to be ok right now.
Freeze and rebots, restarts of Note 3 have to be HARDWARE FAILURE
I tired everything, diffrent roms, setcpu settings, with no success.

The ICS update finally appeared in France for stock Note.
It appears the update was pulled shortly after because a lot of users bricked their Notes in the process.
Moral of the story: don't update as soon as you see an update, but wait...
Samsung really sucks at software development.

Samsung france facebook page for the source.
SFR update and XEF for the short time i spent there.
i'm in the same case except that i'm booted and running( for me was a FOTA update, wich installed nicely except with a "failed " message after the fist boot), but the phone cannot be mounted by any ways under windows now ( even with drivers reinstalled ).
But some seems to be blocked in bootloop
Epic fail on this one, especially just before a week-end.
I'm one of the lucky few that got it to boot - sigh come on Samsung!
Managed to upgrade to ICS with 'failed to upgrade firmware' warning.
Missing S Note application, not sure whatelse it might be missing.
You can manually install S Note app by looking up apk file.
Search 'S Note app xda' from google if anyone having similar problem.
Kies 2.0 is recognizing phone as well. I can link screenshot if anyone need for w/e reason if it may help them.
Also, battery drainage problem still there i believe.
Tried the infamous aeroplane mode method, not so sure if it helped:
1. Turn off touch sound and screen lock sound from setting->setting
2. Turn on aeroplane mode
3. Switch off phone
4. Take out battery for 10sec
5. Boot and wait till everything loads
6. Turn off aeroplane mode
App called 'Play Movies' was installed along with ICS, but it gives 404 connection error for 'movie rental' section.
Other than that, Note is running really smooth with ICS.
Firmware version shows up as PDA:LQ3 / PHONE:LPT / CSC:LP1 (XEF)

When I see that, I'm happy to install safe custom roms...
It's a shame for such a company to provide such crappy roms...
Well I am one of those who got stuck on the infamous Samsung logo...
Stock Note, purchased in November, never rooted, 2 GB updates via OTA since November, CSC XEF.
Yesterday morning I got the upgrade notice, did it OTA and on rebooting stuck on Samsung screen...
As an idiot I had been waiting for the "official" ICS ROM.
Thanks Samsung, lesson learned.
Many phone manufacturers will tell you to stay away from custom roms to avoid bricking your phone but to brick your device when updating on an OFFICIAL stock rom after receiving a notification is definitely UNBELIEVABLE !!!!! What is Samsung doing to this expensive device - after the EMMC Bug episode where many people have bricked their Note, now we have another update problem!
Samsung's reputation will take a hard punch with these things if the press writes about this. I think most people who bricked their Note will be fed up and avoid Samsung's phones in the futur.....

totally agree... it would have been good for them if they silently provide fix for the emmc bug... staying on GB has become the best solution to all this crap..
I have to say that I'm glad to hear of this. At least it's not just me!!!
My French note got the update yesterday and although it's not hung up or bricked, it certainly has huge issues. Running so hot and battery discharging even when connected to PC by usb. Using wall charger is barely keeping up with the drain even when not using phone.
Have done battery pull and cache wipe twice. No change. Factory reset, nothing either.
Swype not working. Premium suite totally missing. Really disappointing.
Probably not worth waiting for them to figure it out. Downloading UK version now.
I left my note on overnight under the following condition.
Wifi off
Bluetooth off
Data off
Auto rotation off
Gps off
Silent mode on
Power saving off
Between 1am and 10am battery % changed from 81% to 79%.
Quite satisfied with standby drainage.
I just did aeroplane methid as i mentioned on page 1.
Not using any battery save apps.
However when using apps such as dolphin browser, s note, s memo, there seem to be heavy battery drainage issue.
Charged fully then used the browser for approx. 30min and it was on 90%.

Hi, im currently using the galaxy sy i9500, and it was great for a first few days. Then started around 3 days ago, BAtrery started draining very fast, and my phone would randomly heats up, i can feel it from my pocket. And my bettery would go from 70% to like 50% in and hour without doing anything with it. i Disabled all the features, air view, smart scorll etc etc. I even enable the power saver mode which did not help at all. Anyone have an idea on whats going on? (see pics)
You are not the only one experiencing such problems.
1st of all make sure you have updated to latest software version. Then try to disable from the app manager: Samsung push, samsung apps along with google music play service (media has been draining your battery the most)
Are you also experiencing lag and difficult camera access?
If none of those worked maybe try to do a factory data reset or try flashing a stock firmware via ODIN.

Hey guys..
I've owned all the Samsung Galaxy phones from the S+ right up to the S4 and I've flashed firmwares over all of them with generally no problems at all.
But lately I have a constant issue that has been plaguing my Galaxy S 4 (i9505) phone since I flashed the 4.3 i9505G (GE Edition) ROM over my phone.. (have since moved to OMEGA v12)
The phone just randomly reboots whenever it seems to feel like it.
It could be whilst taking a picture, it could be whilst using google maps, it could be whilst installing an app from the app store or just scrolling across the screen. It's basically rebooted through anything and everything and I've tried pinning it down to something but every time I think that I've got it sorted out. It crashes again whilst doing something else.
1 thing however has got me stumped. The phone has NEVER crashed whilst plugged in. If I keep the phone plugged in, it's never ever just rebooted on its own for me. Which got me thinking that it could be a faulty battery or some sort of voltage issue.
Coming from the 4.3 GE Edition ROM there are other people experiencing random reboots. But now I've just flashed over OMEGA v12 and right after flashing (I did a full wipe of course first) the phone rebooted whilst typing in my Wifi access key. After the reboot I was able to set my phone up and I did a reboot myself, then I went to the app store to add an account and the phone crashed AGAIN.
I'm totally over this issue with my phone. I paid a small fortune for it and I cannot rely on it at all. So I absolutely need it to work. I've had issues on 4.3 GE getting Mobile Data to work. I've had issues with it crashing and I'm just done with all of this.
Do you think that my phone is already broken? (It's barely 3 months old) Do I need to get it replaced under warranty? Can I even get it replaced under warranty, is there a way to even get my warranty back or reset the flash counter etc?
I'm just so confused guys I thought maybe it was my battery, and that my battery was faulty because I had battery percentages dropping and jumping around like mad. For example 15% battery left would actually have the phone turn off... and reboot at 0%. Then the light wouldn't go green for 'Fully charged' and the phone would sit on 99% or 100% but still not say 'charged'. In addition I could swear I had lost more than 10% of my charge in the blink of an eye etc.
I just bought 2 new batteries but they will take a week to get here.. and if the phone is still rebooting (and it isn't a voltage/cut out issue with the battery) then should I assume it's a hardware issue and that the phone needs replacing? Or could it just be a bad flash or something? The phone has at least a 2 year warranty. I don't want to replace it after just 3 months when I haven't even so much as dropped it once.
My recovery is PhilZ 5 Touch 6.0.4.0
I always check MD5 sums before flashing and do a full wipe:
- Wipe Data/Factory Reset
- Clean to Install a New ROM
- Yes
- Then Flash the new .zip file etc.
What on earth could be wrong with my phone?
I'll happily provide any more information, as I honestly cannot handle this happening and I have no idea what my problem is...
Thanks incredibly much for any help at all, what-so-ever.

I can only give you advice on some of the smaller issues that you mentioned. I haven't had a problem with reboots at all (i've flashed all manners of ROMs too, including the GE), so I'm guessing it is hardware related. You should get it replaced (if it still is messing up with the new batteries).
As for warranty, yes you can claim it back on warranty. To be doubly safe, restore it to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477
Use Triangle Away: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114
Also FYI, rooting does not void warranty: http://matija.suklje.name/rooting-and-flashing-your-device-does-not-void-the-warranty-in-eu (assuming you are in the EU, not sure about other countries) (gosh i've posted this a lot today).
Thanks a lot buddy I am in the EU definitely and the phone is purchased from the EU. I am actually about to flash it right back to stock now to see if it stops the rebooting issue. I will just have to live without custom roms for awhile and such. If it still keeps crashing I will wait for the new batteries. If it still keeps crashing again after I get those. I guess all that is left to do is render myself without a phone for a week or two and have it repaired...
I wouldn't worry mate it sounds to me like a definite battery issue

Hi leijonasisu,
I've stumbled across your post after having experienced more or less the same issues as you. After trying many custom ROMs in the last few weeks, the phone has barely been useable for more than a few minutes until it randomly reboots. At which time, I must start over with the whole flashing process. My question is, did getting a new battery resolve your issue? Or did you just trade the device back in?
many thanks

Looks like it's better to restore to Samsung stock firmware first then start again from there,
But this will upgrade the the Knox bootloader also.
Stock firmware can be downloaded here, www.sammobile.com/firmwares
I fixed this ages ago. It was a battery issue, I'd bit my bottom dollar that it would be a battery issue for anyone else too, I've read a lot of stuff online about people who have gotten bad batteries with theirs. Swapped to 2 third-party and apparently larger batteries and never had an issue and never looked back.
Sorry for not replying back much sooner but I forgot about the thread.
Try another battery and if within a day or two you get no reboots then toss the bad battery and enjoy your phone! The thing is the battery (due to voltage issues) can make it look like it's the OSes fault when in actual fact it's just a faulty battery and voltage issues.
same problem here.. s4 randomly reboot..
I got the same problem.
The phone reboots every few minutes on me when i want to take it out of standby.
Sometimes it works for a few hours and sometimes it just reboots itself every few minutes or it reboots when i want to do something.
So ur all saying that a new battery could solve my problems ??

Hi, the OLD problem WAS caused by the faulty batteries batch (easy to recognize - the battery serial no was beginning with BD code).
Now, more frequently it is resulting from KNOX related issues.

hi thx for the answer.
Could infact be knox issue as i am now back on stock rom without root or anything and im not having any issues now.
But i would like to have a custom rom and root again .
So how would i go from here to there without having random crashes / reboots on custom rom ?

Only one option then: read the ROM-specific threads, loo for feedback posts. If ROM would cause random reboots, you can be certain that it will be written there.

Interesting will have to give this a go, also the battery option.
For months I was running on Lollipop custom ROM, the developer did an upgrade and then the SIM card removed error started. I went back to the old version was keep getting the SIM Card removed error. A few days ago went back to Original ROM for NZ 4.4.2 and I still get the SIM Card error and now the phone just reboots randomly.
Strange problem. My phone freezes on me every 35-40 hours of power on. I need to remove battery and restart the phone for it to work. I could be just be in the app drawer or playing a graphic intensive game the phone would just freeze.
I don't know why this would happen to an otherwise wonderful phone. Snappy fast and great battery otherwise.
I've done the official Sammy firmware upgrade OTA and the phone is stock unrooted
Any clues?

You could try a factory reset

Use Helium, It's an app by Clockwork Mod, It does the same as Titanium backup but doesn't require root
I'm having the same problem it will freeze home button or power button doesn't have to take battery out its a bit annoying!

Any clues?

Try to use without ext sd card if there is any & observe.
Hey guys, I just wanted to share my experience with my SM-N9005 that's a week old today.
When I first unboxed it, it slipped in my sim card and 64GB sdcard and turned the phone on.
During the second or third screen of the wizard, the phone froze and rebooted.
After that, I went through the wizard again with no problems and finally to the homescreen.
I noticed on the status bar that the Play Store is failing to install / recover a whole host of apps and during that, I received that "Prevention Information" nonsense, the phone froze and rebooted after I tapped to see if I can find this app but all it showed me one was app, which was the Play Store services. I assume, maybe the apps failed because the services and Play Store wanted to update.
Well after all of that, there are times when the "Prevention Information" comes up, the phone won't freeze and soft restart (Just show the Samsung logo and come back to the homescreen with one or two vibrations) right away but eventually. There have been instances, where for example, I would be in the BBM for Android app or WhatsApp when this happens and return with no chat history but that happened once or twice, I think there was another instance that I lost information but that might not necesserily be an emmc issue but due to a sudden reboot or freeze without being able to save properly.
I also get a notification toast that I am running low on memory when I have plenty of memory left. (I would start seeing this around and after 10GBs have been used)
Things I have tried:
Factory Reset from the menu option.
Factory Reset from Recovery.
PC ODIN to the very first .tar ROM with corresponding CSC (XME) for my handset.
Removed the sdcard to see if it was that.
Nothing worked but the problems aren't as frequent.
I can't play games for too long because it will soft reboot. The phone does get warm quickly, which is a concern.
I think that's about it, I do love the phone but if this continues and this is a Samsung bug, I might just hold off from sending it back and buy a Nexus 5.
Samsung has been having too many issues with their handsets like faulty emmc chips, sudden bricked phones, multi-touch screen issues, etc.
This will be my last Samsung device either way but I am hoping that there's a fix because if I send it back, that's that.
I'm thinking of returning mine and sticking with the s4 to much hassle I've factory reset my device and left out my 64gb we card and see where it goes from here.

So like the title says, I'm a new Nexus 6P user, and I had problems out of the gate.
I bought the device 2nd hand from a guy off craigslist, after my S6 edge started over heating after I had the screen replaced (don't buy Samsung "edge" phones, I know your careful, but on the off chance you drop it, your in a world of trouble).
I tested the phone, before I bought it, it appeared pretty much brand new, everything worked. When I got home, and hard reset it again for good measure all hell broke lose.
After a hard reset the phone wanted to update to build 19 something. After the update and a reboot, the phone app kept crashing before I could finish the setup process. The only thing I could do is factory reset it again. This appeared to clear up that problem. I did the near by device thing, and restored it from what Google could find out about my S6 edge. I wish it was more of a restore like what you can do in the iOS world, but it's better then what we had before so it's cool. I noticed that Chrome would crash everytime you tried to use it only in less I uninstalled the update. After I got the phone to the point where I wanted it, I thought I was free in the clear. When I started trying to use music apps, they all crash. Apple Music, Spotify, Soundcloud. Then I noticed YouTube also crashed the same way. When I tried to make a phone call, the phone app would crash too... So the phone was useless. I downloaded the SDK and the most current build which I think was 20 something. I followed a guide on here and formatted the phone reinstalling everything around build 20. The only thing this fixed was the phone issue.
I could now make phone calls without it crashing, but I was in the same boat with some applications working, and the same ones that didn't work not working. I flashed this phone 5, or 6 times, with the last time me formatting the userdata. I read that it wasn't a good idea because it could lock me to only 32GB ( I had a 64GB version), but after I did the flashing along with the usedata format, I still had 64GB of useable space, however I still had the same issue with the same types of applications crashing. I tried older builds, same issue (also the older builds all had the problem with the phone app crashing to the point that the phone wasn't usable).
I ended up sending the phone to the manufacturer, which appears to be in the same metroplex I live in. Hopefully they can find a hardware problem under warenty and fix it. I'm making this post to see if anyone else ran into similar issues, and if anyone knows if this is a hardware build issue, that was hopefully resolved.
I'm sorry to be so long winded...
Is the phone rooted and running a custom ROM?

Everything appeared to be stock, I don't know if it was rooted before, but when I was finished with it it was stock, I even locked the boot loader again (it was locked before I started flashing it)
