Frequently Asked Questions -Motorola Droid X 2015 - Droid X General

Frequently Asked Questions
Motorola Droid X
This a short list of frequently asked questions in this device forum and the answers often given as a response. It should serve as a starting point for gathering knowledge and finding solutions to many common problems. Please only post in this thread with feedback on how to improve this document. Do not post "Thank you" type responses. If you have additional questions or require more help, try to find an existing thread or create your own. Do not use this as a general help thread.
Q1: How can I tell if I have a Motorola Droid X?
1. Check in the battery compartment, under the battery, on the label, Model is in the middle of the top line, the Droid X is model MB810.2. In the software Menu>settings>about Phone>system version will include MB810.Verizon.en.US3. Bootloader Version: Power Off>Hold both volume buttons> Bootloader Version is 30.04
Q2: What is the newest Stock Android Version and System Version?
The current Stock Android Version is 2.3.4 (Gingerbread). The current System Version is 45.621.10.MB810.Verizon.en.US see 2013 Update System Version: 45.621.10.MB810.Verizon.en.US.
Q3: Where are the Custom Bootloaders, Recoveries, and Kernels?
Because of the Locked bootloader, the stock bootloader cannot be unlocked and Stock recovery can not be replaced, and until March 2014 there were no custom Kernels, see [Kitkat] CM11 Android 4.4 for the Droid XFor more on Bootloaders see XDA Wiki: Bootloaders
Q4: What is Rooting? How do I root?
Rooting gives you access to system files, that are restricted by default in android. Rooting Droid X running Gingerbread is easy using Framaroot. see [Kitkat] CM11 Android 4.4 for the Droid X
Q5: What is a Bootstrap and why do I need it?
Because of the locked bootloader, a bootstrap is needed to install and access a custom recovery. See Bootstrap explained by Koushik Dutta (Koush) the Droid 2, X, & 3 bootstrap creator. Which version of bootstrap should I use? In most cases Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrapper CWM 5.0.2.0 is the best option. see [Kitkat] CM11 Android 4.4 for the Droid Xfor more on Bootloaders see XDA Wiki: Bootloaders
Q6: How do I restore the stock rom?
IF the phone can be booted to bootloader and the battery has enough charge, Stock Firmware(SBF) should be able to be re-flashed as long as the is no hardware failure. There are 3 methods to flash SBF/Firmware.1. RSD Lite (Windows only) see my page Using RSD Lite to flash a .SBF to restore (Stock Rom)2. ezSBF bootable CD or USB flash drive (Windows/Linux/Mac) DX ezSBF & Root 2.3.4/4.5.6213. sbf_flash (Linux/Mac) see http://blog.opticaldelusion.org/search/label/sbf_flash
Q7: What is the Best Rom?
Best/most stable ROM threads aren't allowed as they're too subjective, you'll receive lots of differing opinions on the same thing. The only way is to try yourself and find the one that fits you best as that's what these forums are about.

Q9: I tried to restore stock and all I got was this lousy screen, how do I fix it?

Wrong Firmware/SBF was flashed. Try the 2.3.4/4.5.621 SBF (1FF-p3a_shadow_cdma_shadow-user-2.3.4-4.5.1_57_DX8-51-120111-test-keys-signed-Verizon-US.sbf)
Q10: Can I use the Droid X, without activating with a carrier (WiFi only)?
Yes, Press the 4 corners of the screen in a clockwise direction starting with the top left corner. Your device should then jump straight to the home screen![Video]How to bypass activation screen on the Droid X - YouTube*

I call Dibs....
Is this safe??
Someone did try it yet?
I´m kind a interested..
This isn't something you can try yet I was just showing you all the features from the version for mytouch 4g slide
I've rooted long ago, but I know others on here are interested in easier methods (despite the fact the Wiki method is known to be reliable, and really not that hard).
I'm shure a lot of people are holding back on rooting because they don't know how to do it themselves. The other options are great to!
So I say go for it!
If you do port it over correctly, no one is going to complain. I imagine there will be quite a few people who use it. Why not.
If you can get an easy unroot and s-on option i would not mind to have such a thing!
Your in luck....
So so far I've been looking up info on your partitions, hboot, etc. and it looks like I'll be able to automate one of your current Root tools and make my won Unroot tool (with S-on) from your current guides. Now every other feature of Mr Root should work on accordingly (other then splash screen flasher)
Rooter/Unrooter Dev Preview
I've been coding the Rooter/Unrooter script for the G2....you can fork the code here https://github.com/xmc-wildchild22/Mr_Root
Personally, I am not a fan of one-click solutions.
With the current methods, people have to use adb and therefore will have even a little experience with adb, which is massively helpful if any problems arise.
However, I know there are a lot of people out there who really struggle with following
simple instructions, so this could help them get root.

HELLO
Thanks... But here is for original development
Well you shouldn't be posting this, in android development only those ROMs are posted which are created by OP, and you are just copy pasting Motorola's work. These are not made by you in any way. So reporting.

So dont get confused Besides this thread still might be kinda pointless. as there is already a firmware thread which will ofcourse have updates of stocks. no point in making such threads. but nvm.

This forum is specifically for the 2014 version (so 2nd gen) of the Moto G.
Unfortunately, it seems that the picture in the first post is a bit confusing, since it's indeed a pic of the 1st gen ...
Might be a good idea to change that.
I have taken a look around the web, but can't directly find a comparable banner for the 2nd gen that doesn't also include a "buy now" link or a watermark .. this is the best I've been able to find:
Hello Everyone
I Don't want to bother anyone here...But I purchased My New Moto G 2014 edition A Month Ago...
I am Not a developer or anything...just a noob in operating android..Don't know how to root or anything...just impressed by these things that by rooting your phone can be done.
So can i question here about my queries :
1. Is it safe to Root My phone? As i read somewhere that i shouldn't root my phone it will cause my warranty of the phone to end.
2. if it is safe, can I have a proper guide to root my phone from a noob's point of view. With pictures and a bit of text will be very good.
3. A bit more guide on how to have lollipop on my phone after rooting my phone.
4. I also wanted to know about CyanogenMod what is this.
I had operated an iphone 3gs Unlocked with cydia in it.

Dont root your phone till you get an official lollipop update because then you will need to unroot it back to install lollipop. It will be rolled out very soon.

all are made in China mate. It doesnt matter whether its made in US or China. If there's any problem, we have XDA or just blame it on Moto.

Yes, it may. Any such changes made can affect OTA. Keep it real and original till you get lollipop update. Expect it on any December date.
Reserved!
Is the logo.bin in system? So flashing just the system will put everything back ready for OTA?
Also, I've tried flashing recovery but never got it to work. Will I need to flash stock recovery as well, or does it revert back to stock after a reboot?
I'd like to suggest using a more specific title than Moto G (2014) if you mean 2nd gen. 2014 can be interpretted as developments in 2014. I bought my phone in Aug 2014, but I'm told it's 1st gen. Now I will try and find the forum for my phone (it's not this one).

no logo.bin is not in system and should not stop OTA even if you modify it to fix the bootloader message
as far as im aware all you need to get matching boot.img , /system folder and recovery.img , but these need to be correct version for the OTA update you received (either in zip or OTA)
for example the currently 'leaked' OTA for 5.0.2 xt1068 from india will only update if is finds dsds retall ALL version .23
it will not install over .14 or .27 versions.
i think its time for the OP to update this. so many freshy news and this is what? abandoned?

And why can´t you post that in the Firmware thread ?
This has nothing really to do with development ?
I guess you are not an Motorola official right, or in any case related to Motorola, to bring us fixes or tell them what´s not working and so on ?
If every country get its OTA and you make for every OTA an own thread... how pointless is that ?
No offense but this section is for custom ROM development mainly and not just for simple firmware updates without active support, IMO ^=^

It's better than talking about this in CM12 thread like they were. I find that extremely disrespectful. You get somebody willing to put that much work into our device and then people like this were posting in his thread with instructions on stock 5.1, which will be crap regardless. You can upgrade a turd all you want, it will still be a stock turd.

Is it possible to do a twrp backup and flash it to a xt1045?

Note: if you flash this and you don't have the Brazil variant of this phone, you're gonna have a bad time.
You will have a bricked phone.

You won't have a bricked device (The firmwares, between the XT1039, XT1040 etc. seem to be interchangable), the modem of the device won't work however. Meaning that whatever variant of the peregrine (aside from the XT1040) you flash this on, you'll only have WiFi functional

Hard to know
Best chance is that Sunshine app will get updated to unlock the bootloader
then rooting is easy

---------- Post added at 11:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:47 PM ----------
One more question:I saw on the thread that is has droid maxx and is in beta with turbo will it be the same with maxx 2 as maxx
---------- Post added at 11:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:50 PM ----------
As in,once they get it up and running for just droid maxx or turbo will I be able to use the same method for my droid maxx 2?
Hey, I'm back thx again for the help with the root problem. But I was wondering if there was any solution to changing the font on my device without root? Even using alternative apps and such. I've tried go launcher but it's not picking up the ttf files I've even extracted them into seperate folders still no luck.
I bought an XT1565 recently and was dismayed at the lack of root options due to the locked bootloader.
I was just poking around this morning and enabled developer options which has an option: "OEM Unlocking -- Allow the bootloader to be unlocked" and I was able to move the slider to green.
How would I about actually making a test attempt at unlocking said bootloader?
Android version: 6.0.1
Android security patch level: Jan 1, 2017
Config version: I5.MOT.XT1565.0
Kernel version:
3.10.49-ge0cb90e
[email protected] #1
System version: 24.211.6.lux_verizon.verizon.en.US
Build number: MCD24.294-4-6
UPDATE:
I tried to use the OEM Unlock Website and it says cannot be unlocked. Oh well.
