[Q] Yellow Sprint screen - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I have had my S4 new for a week. I rooted it and then made the mistake of looking at an old youtube clip on how to use the native hotspot by modifying with QBKing77. I have read through the posts I can find on here but am having no luck getting my phone back working. I have downloaded the NAE MJA & MK2 Tar files and tried to use ODIN 3.09 to install them on my phone but I keep getting a fail with the following:

All three lead to this error. I have access to both the download and recovery screens and have also tried to put the zip files from each of those on a mini sd card and recover that way. Nothing is working. Am I doing something wrong or does anyone have any ideas for me to try?
Thank you in advance.

Well, if you have only had your phone for a week, there is a very good chance that you have the newer L720T model and not the L720 original Sprint S4. It is very important you figure out which model you have before you go about trying to fix it. Remove the battery and look at the model number. If it is the L720T, there is no hotspot mod and you will need to make sure you download the correct stock tar to fix your phone. You will need to go to sammobile.com and register to download tar files. Look for SPH-L720T under firmwares and download the latest one.
If you do have the original L720, than the only stock tar that will install for you is the NAE full stock tar file found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663619 . Then re root your phone with cf autoroot and install the NAE odexed hotspot mod using the custom revovery of your choice: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2653666 . Make sure you flash the hotspot mod with a custom recovery, if you try to manually replace the files using a file explorer it will fail on NAE.
Again, first thing you need to do is determine which model of the Sprint S4 you have!!

Stuck At Sprint Screen, Cant Unroot!

Guys,
I tried to install the free wifi that QBKING had in his youtube channel. I was on MJA. What happened was I got stuck at the sprint screen.
Now I tried to Unroot the phone through downloading the tar file from QBKings website for sprint L720VPUAMDC_L720SPTAMDC_L720VPUAMDC_HOME.tar.md5
I checked the MD5 of the zip file once it was downloaded and it matched.
However, Now I don't have a dam phone because It keeps on failing in odin. I checked a few different usb ports.
With the message
SW REV. CHECK FAIL : fused : 4 , Binary : 1
Can someone please help me!
First of all, you need to know what you are doing before you use old videos to update your phone. The latest software which was MJA, but is now MK2, you can't go back to older firmwares. MDC was the original firmware that was released with the phone when it came out in May. The best thing to do at this point is to download the MJA full tar file from sammobile.com or from the development section here. Odin it to your phone, you may need to do a factory reset afterward to get it to boot. Once your phone is on MJA you cannot odin any firmware that is older than MJA or you will end up bricked again. After that, you can reroot your phone using cf-autoroot and install a custom recovery. Then, find the MJA odexed hotspot mod here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256950 and flash that in recovery. Then you will be where you wanted to be.

Thanks for the reply,
As far as the Wifi hotspot. I just followed his advice on his website but instead downloaded the system files from the MJA Odexed zip found on his website here. :http://qbking77.com/development/how-to-get-free-native-wifi-hotspot-on-the-sprint-samsung-galaxy-s4/
I didn't think I would mess up my phone this bad
Is this the correct file for sprint?. The file I am trying to flash in odin. is Sprint Galaxy S4 SPH-L720 VPUAMDC (Android 4.2.2) – Download found on QBkings website http://qbking77.com/development/how-to-unroot-and-unbrick-the-samsung-galaxy-s4/.
But my phone keeps on failing in odin with the message I reported in my Original post.
So I should download the MJA file not the MK2 update? I really don't want to mess up my phone anymore then it already is. Could you please provide a direct link to the correct file to download in odin.
All I know is the tar file that Qbking is providing isn't working and keep on failing in odin.
Thanks again!

It sounds like you downloaded the correct hotspot mod in the first place so it shouldn't have failed. Very often, the odexed and deodexed files get mixed up and that is why it is best to download the file from the original post here on XDA.
As far as the tar file, yes you have to download the MJA tar file and odin it. The MK2 file is only an update file and must be applied after the MJA tar is odined. After downloading the tar file extract the zip and then use a newer version of odin. I believe odin 3 ver 3.07 works best. Put your phone in download mode and connect it to your computer and verify that the com port shows up in odin. Run odin as administrator in windows and load the file in the PDA spot. Uncheck all the check boxes except for reboot and it should work. If you need the MJA file I can send you a link to my dropbox via PM.

It looks like you are trying to install an old MDC tar, when you need to install the MJA tar, you can download it from here http://www.yourfavoritepainter.com/MJA_HOME.tar.zip
or you can go to http://sammobile.com/firmwares/ and find the latest version

It likely needs to be extracted. Or maybe it's a one click?

OK, I now believe Odin referred to "Odin one click." I used TWRP to flash the zip and everything is working fine...

If you have already installed kit kat aka 4.4.2 or NAE, you cannot Odin an older version. Since the MJA software you are trying to Odin is failing with an Auth error, that tells me you are already on NAE and must use the NAE full tar file to restore your phone. Look for it in the development section in a thread from Random45. His links have great download speeds.

[Q] Soft Brick. Can get to download mode, however, recovery impossible

My S4 is bricked (soft) due to an OTA update (MK2). The update installed, and rebooted the phone, when the phone was rebooting it got stuck at the Sprint "yellow" screen forever until i took the battery out, and it continued to get stuck at that screen (at that point i knew i was doomed). I was currently running root, and a hotspot mod. I was told to flash back to 4.3, so i carefully followed instructions, however, that only made the situation worse. After unsuccessfully flashing that firmware to the phone, due to unknown reasons, i now am unable to boot into recovery mode, however i can still (but only) boot into download mode. I am under the impression, after doing alot of reading, that KNOX is preventing me from flashing a ROM, than again i'm not really sure. I'm here cause, i'm really in the dark right about now. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Are you sure the OTA wasn't the latest NAE update? If so, you can't use a pre-NAE version of the ROM. If you can get it into download mode, you should be able to use ODIN to get you completely back to stock NAE (or MK2 if your OTA was MK2). Then root, flash custom recovery, etc.

The OTA update said "MK2 System Update", I don't know if that means update from MK2 to NAE, or update to MK2...I never had the chance to verify after the install because it rebooted, and it never turned back on after the update. And the Firmware relating to MK2 didn't work (it failed rather fast), it gave me a message in Odin:

Download the stock NAE tar file from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663619 , extract the tar from the zip file and flash with odin. You may need to do a factory reset if it doesn't boot after install. Then you can re root with cf autoroot and install the NAE hotspot mod.

I also had the same thing. Was rooted with SafeRoot. Did the unroot procedure, tried to Odin NAE and was stuck at same place. Took it to Sprint and they put on NA7. Seems to be OK, but I think it is a debug version that gives a lot of 'reported a bug' notifications. Keep thinking about trying to NAE through odin again, but haven't. Now I'm wondering if I tried to odin the zip instead of the tar inside the zip...

[Q] Odin FAIL after Nand write start

Hey, guys. I left my G2 to go back to my GS4, and I'm having a bit of trouble. I'm trying to get back to an earlier firmware to gain root and flash custom recovery. Currently on NB1 firmware. TowelRoot does not work.
Anyway, I downloaded the stock ATT Firmware for my phone. UCUAMDL. When I go to Odin, Auto reboot and F reset time is checked. Re-Partition is not checked. Odin sees my phone. I hit PDA or AP and load my firmware file and hit start. Everytime, it fails after Nand write start.

I have tried v1.85, 3.04, 3.08, and 3.09. I have tried various USB ports on my computer. I have tried 2 different cables. I always run as admin. I have tried running in compatibility mode. Kies is not installed. I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers.
Any help?
Your phone has a locked boot loader which prevents a full downgrade. If you are on stock NB1, you can adb sideload the NC1 OTA update file. The all things AT&T should have the link.

If I sideload NC1, will I be able to install custom recovery and flash custom ROMs? Or will that require the MK2 downgrade to flash custom recovery after root?

You will be able to root using towelroot and install touchwiz based custom roms. There is a version of the google play edition that works (there are some known issues though).
The stock recovery cannot be replaced. We have a special recovery (this recovery is available during normal boot itself) called safestrap that can be used to flash the custom roms.

Oh, wow. What happened? I guess Samsung stuck it to us one final hard time. Made things so much harder. Thanks for the clarification.
Unfortunately you cant install Safestrap Recovery while on NC1. At least I haven't been able to at all. Really f'n hating this crappy updated phone I got from ATT as a replacement for my broken old on with the good bootloader.
You should be able to, once you set selinux to permissive mode. Towelroot was also updated to do the same.

Any help?

If you are on NB1 you can go back to MK2 to root or update to NC1 to use TowelRoot .
If you want to downgrade to MK2 and root please follow the steps in post 1, 2, 3 at here.

Hey guys, i have a note 4 N910H that comes with bloatware, since i dont want to root my device because of warranty issues i tried installing this rom N910HXXU1ANK5_N910HUWA1ANK5_PGU with odin wich acording to sammobile its compatible with my note 4, but in odin i get this error:

I read that i could fix the problem by flashing a pit file and checking the re-partition option in odin but the only pit file i could find was for the N910C, so can i use it? if not how can i get the N910H pit file? i have the stock rom that came with the phone.
Right now i cant boot up my note, i get a screen with a yellow warning sign that says FIRMWARE UPGRADE ENCOUNTERED AN ISSUE. PLEASE SELECT RECOVERY MODE IN KIES & TRIED AGAIN, did that but it doesnt work, kies doesnt recognise my phone lol
Try flashing again with a different version of Odin. Sometimes it helps.
Also remove battery for a minute or so before trying to flash. Sometimes this helps.
Never tick repartition. Just leave the things that are already ticked and don't tick anymore items.
Don't flash N910C partition on N910H. Don't flash N910C firmware with odin on N910H because it will include modem etc which is not compatible with your device.
Good luck and don't worry, you should be able to get out of it pretty easily.
It didnt work, weird right acording to sammobile its supposed to be the same rom just without bloatware, after reading your reply i end up flashing the copy i had of the stock rom so i just can use my phone again ☺ thank you.
I read on some thread you dont include modems on your roms, i might just root and tried some custome roms already lol do you happend to know if i where to flash back to stock after having custom roms, if i can still update with official roms with odin?

You can download roms from sammobile. Maybe the one you got was just a bad download as yes, any region should work if it is for the same device eg. N910H to N910H.
Yes my roms don't include modem. You can get the latest for your device after flashing the rom from post #3 in my thread. Latest kernels also in post #4.
A simple odin flash of stock firmware should get you back to stock
It seems your issue is regional. I have seen some cases where other region ROM not allowed to flash using odin and classically it fails at cache or Hidden (your logs suggest it failed at hidden)
So download your device ROM with same region as it was there when you purchase. If you don't know try different one and one should get success.
Yeah i guess thats the problem, mine came with a rom from trinidad, so to remove all the bloatware i tried to flash a rom for my country that has none, of course for the same model N910H but it just didnt work, anyways gonna root later and try customs

[Q] Cannot install stock firmware - ODIN fail

All,
As I noted in another thread, when I worked on my wife's new Galaxy S5, I let it upgrade to Android 5.0, then rooted it, then made some mistakes while restoring apps via Titanium Backup. In order to undo those mistakes, I want to roll back to the beginning and start over. To that end, I have been trying to reinstall stock firmware on the phone but I keep running into the same problem:
Code:

Based on reading here and elsewhere, I have tried the following:
Factory reset the phone
Verified that USB debugging is enabled and that allow remote lock is disabled
Ran Odin as Administrator
Use different versions of Odin (have tried 1.3, 1.85, 3.07, and 3.09)
Tried different firmware versions
Reinstalled Samsung drivers
Tried different computers and different USB cables
Regardless of what I have tried, I keep getting the same error.
The phone still works - I can boot it, so it is not bricked. I was also able to successfully re-root the phone (using the CF Auto Root approach). Based on my reading, it seems that replacing the PIT file is a next step to try, but it also seems that this is a fast way to killing a phone, so I am hesitant to try.
The phone in question is a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S5, SM-G900P. The kernel is currently Android 5.0, build version LRX21T.G900PVPU2B0D3. I would like to replace with with the stock 4.4.4 kernel (found here: http://stockroms.net/file/GalaxyS5/SM-G900P/G900PVPU1ANCB_G900PSPT1ANCB_SPR.zip). If replacing the PIT file is the next thing to try, can you please point me to the specific one to use? If not, can you suggest something else to try?
Thank you.
Same here
I'm having exactly the same issue. Trying to downgrade from BOD3 to kit kat 4.4.2 NE5 in order to unlock my S5 G900P.
Hope someone has a workaround for this.
Sorry dumb question, what did you use to root a 5.0 firmware? I thought towelroot only works on 4.4.2?
Starting with BOD3 u cant downgrade anymore
Hope this will work 4 u.....it worked on my G900P :
1. Install CWM with odin...Philz: http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/G...2-klte.tar.md5
2. Download Galaxy S5 Rooted Stock ROMs and kernel, flashable zips, and copy to your SD card
3. Reboot in recovery ...wipe data/cache/dalvik....install the zips(kernel and rom)
4.Reboot to system and enjoy ur downgrade
thanks to bto001 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s5/general/solution-to-sim-unlock-od3-downgrade-t3128120
What finally worked was to install the same version of the stock firmware.
