[Q] i9505 IMEI code - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
the police in my little city is investigating a murder (which is here a real rarity) and i don't know how they come to me and invite me to answer qeustions as a witness but anyway they have also noted down the IMEI code of my phone
So now i am interested in why they did that, and what can they all do with my imei code, track me, hear my phone calls etc ?
Also is there a way i could change the imei because i don't feel comfortable now :S

Possibly, but not very easy
First is illegal
at the same time if someone is following you, you will need to change the sim card
on the other hand, the police are - they will still find a way to reach you

Are you guilty?

Ooooh someone's trying to hide something me thinks

LoL
I am 23 years old, i am studying i have no police records and everyone who knows me knows is laughing about that i was questioned about that case because everyone knows that it is ridiculous that i have anything in common with that
I just feel irritated because i have no clue why they questioned me and i was interested in knowing for what exactly they need my imei code, i have no problem with it that they trace me or hear my phone calls just because i have nothing to hide, but it is really uncomfortable when you know that someone takes your privacy ...
If i had something to hide, would i post with my account where all my info is?

Changing IMEI on HTC Touch

Hi, I'm new to the site, and I wanted to ask if someone could please help me change my HTC Touch IMEI... Most of the solutions I found on google didn't work well, maybe because I'm using a newer SPL? Please help, I'm totaly new to this kind of things...
Thanks in advance
It's illegal in most countries.
I know, but I saw that there are some programs to edit it here, so I think I am allowed to ask...

It's illegal to record someonethat doesn't know it,but you can still buy spycameras... Not that I condone it, but the program isn't illegal.

First of all, I think you should just calm down. I have just kindly asked for a solution and you insult me. What a nice person you are, really... Even if it's not legal I'm sure it's not disallowed to post such things here, or most of the posts/programs I found here using google would have been deleted...
Dnt worry..just reported him
There is a thread some were by the name " Changin IMEI is going to get u a score "...look in that maybe its helpful for u
Quick Mod Note:
Just because something is illegal that doesn't mean you can't ask about it. Granted you probably won't get much legit help with it but asking the question is fair game.
There was a changer written by a member to help those who have "legit" use for such a tool. Of course the thread was allowed to live after much Moderator discussion about it but there were heavy warnings abotu the legality of doing such to your phone. Also note that this was back when the Wizard was king so I doubt it will work for newer devices.
Two Reasons for IMEI Change
1. You have a stolen phone
2. Your a terrorist
Thanks for the help, is the program iWizard? I found it, and well, it just tells me my IMEI is composed by numbers and LETTERS xD
Well, then my question becomes another one: is there a way to downgrade from SPL 2.60 (I think... how do I find it?) to a lower one, just to try if it works?
----------------
@obsydian
No, it's not a stolen phone neither I am a terrorist (what would a terrorist do with a changed IMEI?!? )... It's my father's old phone which he believed it got stolen, so he blocked the IMEI... now that ha has found it again (he left it in our house on the seaside, where I am writing from) he gave it to me because he bought a new one and he doesn't have the bill here, so he can't unlock the IMEI now. I can stil use it as a smartphone and I really like it, but I don't like taking 2 phones with me... so I wanted to fix it, at least temporary (we're going back home in August... -_-"). I don't want to do anything EXTREMELY illegal, just change the IMEI for a few months...
Some European countries (like Turkey) require you to pay import tax on phones purchased out of country before they can be activated. Basically instead of operating on a blacklist to block stolen phones your phone must be whitelisted to work. It gets whitelisted when sales tax (or import tax) is paid.
If you don't have an acceptable receipt (basically up to customs if they'll accept eBay/Paypal print-outs) then you can never get the device whitelisted as you can't pay the tax.
So is it completely legal? No.
Is it an understandable situation? Yes.
One of those gray areas where XDA-Devs thrives. No trying to steal but need to bend the rules a bit.

Sorry to bump, still looking for someone to help me downgrade it...
I'm in the same boat, though I need to change the IMEI on my Kaiser. iWizard doesn't even detect my phone.
Kyphur,
you said it right man..I am from Turkey, live in US.. I have a ATT tilt..when I went there in March I registered my phone..but only every two years I can register one phone..so it means I gotta use this tilt over there for 2 years..but i change my phone every 6 months..so this is a grey area..it is a f'ed up rule we have there in Turkey...

Is there anyway clone titan Like cloning GSM sim cards

Is there anyway clone titan Like cloning GSM sim cards. So that I can use my service on both phones.
Federal crime
It is definitely a FEDERAL crime. But if you do find a way to do it... keep in mind that as soon as your phone pops up on the "grid" from 2 different locations at the same time they will most likely Flag and freeze your account (since they will assume someone else has cloned it.) and most likely (I'm guessing) ask for you phone back so they can exchange it.
The others are right. I refer you to the Wireless Telephone Protection Act:
http://www.ussc.gov/publicat/cloning.PDF
Why can't anyone just answer this question? I can understand the lecture and an answer, but the answer is never there.
Yes, you can clone the ESN. Google for a tutorial.

Usually when something is a felony and/or can get you in legal trouble, people are hesitant to post an answer.

I am holding a Note 4 - can I help?

Hey,
Sorry, I know this thread will probably be irrelevant, but it just occurred to me. I have a Western Note 4 (I'll keep country vague just for my own protection). I'm very technical and a massive Android Power User, but not a Dev. But if there is any use in me doing a system dump or anything, I'm happy to do it, with a little guidance.
Feel free to ask any Qs etc,
No, just send me the whole phone.

Hi, this is a very new phone and I really need info from it. If you don't mind please install this Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app and send (PM or email) me screenshots from it.
I also need your help to test the function 'Refurbishment Check' (under the Menu).
Thanks for your time.
I find it quite funny that you're not telling us the country for security reasons.
If you're worried about it being a 'leak', the phone has been on official sale in the Netherlands since the 16th. Don't worry.
If you're worried about us finding out where you're from, you might want to remove the 'London, UK' from your profile.
Any chance you could send me the entire phone? No? Awwwww....

Maybe s/he will give you it in exchange for locating things on his computer? Or a discount for your opinion of his/her digital organisation?
Again, as per your arrogant opinions about my computers and me, you assume too much. Why should s/he be in London because of a profile/avatar? Mine says "Gelderd End, 1974". I am not there. It doesn't even exist anymore. And only people with a working knowledge of football stadia 40 years ago - or with enough interest to Google it - would have the slightest inkling to what I'm referring to...

I understand your frustration caused by your defective phone but the only thing I see here is some really courteous guy from HTC trying to help you the best he can despite his limited LiPo knowledge and the questionable patronizing attitude you are showing at the end of the discussion. Most ppl working at CS are only trained to do basic troubleshooting like: "Factory reset ---> Is the problem solved? --> Yes!Finished / No --->Send us your phone". They don't (and don't have to) know everything about everything like that in some extreme conditions, a lithium battery can catch fire. Sorry for your phone, its really sad and really hope they will do something for you.
its no surprise to end up with no solution from customer support
they're always hopeless
best is u visit a local repair shop near u
Could u plz post a picture of how it looks like
I think the sames happening with me?

He wasn't aware of the risks of a damaged battery, ok... maybe they should all know it for safety reasons. But the "I printed this as a proof against you" part wasnt necessary imo, just adding pressure on someone trying to help. I'm sure you could borrow a phone from a friend or family member to call them like theyv requested but instead you are choosing to play the "I don't want to speak with you cause my phone is broken" game, come on its 2016 it's not like you'd have to walk 5 miles to find another phone... ????

Need Help to unlock a password protected phone. for humane reasons.

Dear Masters and Pros,
I have a locked S7 Edge which i need to access and extract all the info from. basically, I need to use the lock pattern at startup and the fingerprint is useless. the phone belongs to a relative that passed away in mysterious circumstances (suicide suspected). His family want to access what is in the phone for potential clues to what happened. Police were uncooperative and the case was closed. I was thinking of a memory dump, but I doubt i can extract much info from there. especially whats app messages and so on. not to mention possible encryption.
Any help is much appreciated. and if anyone needs any evidence to prove that this is totally ethical, that could be arranged too. the family is desperate and this community is the only hope.
Thanks a lot in advance.
If you have access to the persons google account you can access through the lost password feature.

This is not the first post I've read here on a similar theme.
It's not a question of what is "totally ethical". This a legal matter, end of story.
With no malice intended, read the forum rules, and seek professional legal advice. If you're still determined to hack a phone that is not your property - and whatever the circumstances and however you dress it up, that's what you want to do - you're in the wrong place, in my opinion.
Reported. The mods, as always, have the final word - neither you nor me.

First this is not what XDA is for, and if XDA is the only hope for this matter, there is something wrong there....
Now looking for "potential clues" with a device, again there is something wrong there also...why not just check the individuals social media sites...
Never the less, not happening. If there is a need, take your proof to the phone carriers store and have them assist you there.
