Gear Solo - Other SmartWatches

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Samsungs-3G-smartwatch-to-be-called-Gear-Solo_id54865
Anyone know more than the basics?

I did read somewhere else that this was originally in the works with the original Gear, not the Gear 2. It was scrapped due to inabilities of current battery technology to provide a realistic user experience.

Keeping os up to par

Ok I just watched the new apple keynote introducing the new iPad and it made me hate my galaxy note. Ok maybe that's too drastic but it just proves that the galaxy note's os is not up to par. I know that this isn't an iPad replacement and if I wanted one I should go buy it but the Note was like an alternative to the iPad or maybe not but still the os is pretty outdated when in compared to ios. I'm not talking bout the specs I am talking about the os, I really hope ICS comes out soon and doesn't dissapoint, the new keynote I watched kinda made me feel like getting the note was a mistake!!!
I don't know really upset over the lack in the android os, what do you guys think??

Please, do tell us what bothers you so much? You want to get Facebook integration as well maybe?
I think you should sell your note, buy the new iPad,get off the forum. Bye
From the big ole Note
Whoa dude u don't gotta be so harsh, and who said anything about selling my note, is it so difficult to see that the android OS is just not good enough??
Composed on my Samsung Galaxy Note using XDA Premium app
Android is hundreds of times better for anyone that likes to customize and fool around with things. If u like an idiot proof os then apple is for sure the way to go, problem is if u don't like something on the ios there isn't much u can do about it.
am I wrong about this? Do they have custom roms on iphones and ipads? I seriously doubt it.

I'm not talking about the customization I mean I like it but I'm talking about feature wise
Composed on my Samsung Galaxy Note using XDA Premium app
can u just enumerate the extra features u think ios has over android as of now???
That was exactly what I was thinking off
I'm not saying android sucks or I hate the note, I'm just saying that the OS the note runs on is sorta old and lacks a lot when compared to iOS. There are ups to certain things like android has flash which I'm really thankful for. Still its just not as feature packed, maybe it's just the jealousy talking, hopefully it will be cured with ICS

Get an iPad sir...then there are restless souls like you who like everything comes and starts disliking everything you have! No solution my pal...

Again, what features are you referring to with regards to ios?
Being an owner of an ipad 2, I am curious as to what features ios has that I may have missed out on.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Fabu, in this whole cribbing session you have not mentioned one thing that is there on iOS that you miss on Android. Could you start now please?
And this comes from a user of a note and a ipad 2 and get to play around with a bunch of other android/ios devices in my capacity at work.
If anything its the other way round for me. It's the os on the ipad/Iphone that stops me getting one of those over an android.
Plus the fact I would have to use itunes which I hate with a passion.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
Come on mate, someone have already asked which apps and os-wise things are better? Give us the features that the ios almighty has.
I still have not seen one occasion where you have pointed what features you think android is lacking......?

I have made a thread about missing ios features on android any ways for starters the web browser, it would be nice to have the reader features and a nicer ui also should have the define word features for words we don't understand built in the phone
Look guys I don't wanna start a ios vs android war or neither do I wanna fight any one here I'm just saying there are some features the android should add from ios just so its more anticing. once again I'm not saying android sucks it just could do better
Ps I'm not comparing the note to the new ipad as I know its not fair the new ipad just came out while the note came out last year I'm just comparing to ipads in general

Hehe, I'm laughing hysterically at you! iOS has been exactly the same for five years and you claim Android needs to be updated? A define word feature in a browser makes you complain about the OS? On Android you can have different browsers with plugins, so use the one that's best for you. On iOS you can't even do that!
You're a typical, ignorant Apple user so go buy an iPad, I'm not gonna.

Samsung Note 10.1 wins important test !

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 won first place in the Tablet test/comparison of "Stiftung Warentest" (test.de).
Apple Ipad only place 2 in the test.
Stiftung Warentest is the most respected testing institution in Germany, even funded by government.
Believe me, this is huge and will increase Note 10.1 sales in Germany significantly.
I think this is somehow linked to the early Germany release of Jelly Bean on Note 10.1.
Connect this to the promotional effect of the Queen in UK, and I think sales for Note 10.1 in the main markets Germany and UK will be very good on Christmas.
More Note 10.1 buyers means more support/apps for all of us Note 10.1 users.
What does the test mean tho?
It means that more people will be aware of how good the note 10.1 is and won't believe all the reviews of sites that claimed they were reviewing a tablet with a bendy back, dual core and terrible lag.
I was kind of put off about buying it cause of reviews by android police and so on and it will get the recognition it deserves.

Well the multitasking available with the JB release makes the SGN10.1 a standalone product.
I just wish someone would write a program that would allow us to read our snotes on a PC. I have no idea why Samsung picked such an obscure standard foe their most important app.

Yeah, definitely one of the reasons why I was hesitant about getting this tablet, but I decided to look deeper because it was the only stylus based tablet that had Android that came out in the last half year. I'm really glad because I love how this tablet handles my tasks without the stutter I've had on my transformer, and the stylus is just.. amazing. I actually enjoy drawing stuff on my tablet now!
can you post a link
tests of thers doesn't really mean so much to me.
test if for yourself and how you will use it. that is the test that matters.
Finally, we give due importance to this magnificent tablet!

If you want a Note II to go with your GN10.1, Amazon Wireless has them half price!

The Note II has NOTHING to do with the Note 10.1 forum? Its our sister device. It is THE phone to own if you own the Note 10.1. Get a clue friend.
You can't imagine why SGN10.1 owners would want to know about a great deal on our sister device? - ** facepalm **
Geesh.

I bought a note 2 a month after buying note 10.1..
I believe they compliment each other..
Really? I have the S2 right now, but apparently, my dad can upgrade to a new phone.. so I may or may be using his upgrade. Not sure if I should get the Note 2 because it is a gigantic phone which might mean that I'd need my tablet less.. you know? Could you describe how your uses differ/complement each other?
Ya i'll be getting a Note 2 soon...if Samsung hasnt convinced you that Exynos Quad Core is the way to go...nothing will (but just wait til quad A15 next year and new t608 mali!!!) I know the phone is gigantic but more battery + awesome screen + great camera + spen support + great devs = winning combo. Plus after using Note 10.1 its just changed my life for the better with greater productivity. Although i will say this thread is a little late to the table...i could have sworn i saw someone else over on GN2 forums post something about this....
PS to the user above me, this is for NEW lines only, not upgrades or add a line
Well, yes, I love my tablet, and especially the stylus, but I'm not sure I can see myself using it with my tablet as a good combination..
I had the original Note (not the Note II). It is what convinced me to buy the Note 10.1...
Well the obvious advantage of the GN2 as a compliment to the GN10.1 is the ability to share SNB s-notes files and be able to edit them on both devices.
At home the GN2 and GN10.1 are clearly redundant but much easier to carry the GN2 around with you on the road despite its large size.

Exactly. I remember saying this a while back in the summer before the GN2 was introduced how much more productive i am with the 10.1 than any other tablet or pc, and then when the Note2 was introduced, the ability to look at a document on the tablet, edit a few instances with the s-pen, send it off to colleagues, and then throughout the day look over corrections or adendums on theNote 2, all while syncing in the cloud (edit something now in S notes, pull GN2 out 5 minutes later and continue editing, etc.) and editing again for final draft, - all this has really changed how much more productive ive become. It will be the #2 android phone this year for a good reason whether you are a fanboy or not.

Why not the Nexus Gen 2?

So if one has no use for the S pen, is there a reason why one would get the 2014 over the Nexus Gen 2? The specs seem roughly similar.
My priorities are these:
1 - Screen res
2 - Swype keyboard
3 - Long battery life
I'm dumping my ipad mostly because of the lack of no. 2. Once you go swype, you never can go back!
For me, the lack of external storage (sd card) is the deal breaker. After the OS and bloatware, you will have enough space for maybe 2 1080p movies at best. I want more space and I don't want to tether a storage dongle to get it.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 4
Nexus have good spec but I'm prefer stylus and expandable storage to use for video and book.. Internal memory will full with HD game data file. So not good enough unless Nexus have 64GB memory...
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 4
Personally, I would never buy a full sized tablet without expandable storage since "the cloud" isn't a viable option for me.
Samsung has actually done a lot of customization that adds quite a bit, such as being able to run two apps side by side. You won't be getting the latest and greatest updates in a timely manner, but with the recent updates being pretty minor, you won't be missing out on that much if you don't go Nexus. Plus, Samsung devices have always been notoriously easy to root and add custom ROMS, so you'll get a Nexus like experience if you'd like. However, the Nexus tablet may likely be about $200 less (just a guess, no info to go by).
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk 4
For me it's simple, the spen the other stuff is trivial and easy to get around. If The nexus did indeed come with an spen for me it would be a no brainer. The one thing that pisses me of about non nexus devices is the updates, the other is no multi user support from Samsung. I don't know why they haven't implemented this in their tablet lineup.

Expendable storage would be a deal killer too since I plan on getting only the 16gb version but I'm under the impression it will be coming with it (all rumors point to that).
Multi-tasking window is nice but how often are you guys actually using it? I guess it can come in handy while watching a video and you want to read something. The issue w/ my Galaxy S3 is that multi-window brings the thing to it's knees.
for me, it's the pen that's pulling me in. Some android fanboys may disagree with me but if it wasn't for the S-pen i'd be going with the next iPad. The tablet apps ecosystem is much more mature, especially when it comes to good note taking apps. I need it for school. I pre ordered the note though so i'm pretty excited for it.

Multitasking on even my Note 2 is not really a deal breaker for me but when I had my Note 10.1 original it was nice, the ability to run multiple Windows at ones is really handy. Even with the high ppi on phones its hard to read a lot of the text on screen if im watching a video or doing something else, but on a tablet its a whole other story

So am i, it'll be nice not having to deal with the jailbreaking cat and mouse game w/ apple. I'll probably just install a nice touchwiz rom and some root only apps for this device, who knows though. The thing is already feature packed, only a few things i'd want to add like opening multiwindow to any app.

Way back when there were a lot of Benefits to root, seems less so these days. The main reason why I root is to remove the bloat and for changing my dsn so I can watch American Netflix. Actually, the Note 10.1 2014 does come with multi-user, max. 8 users
Also apparently being implemented in their other 4.2.2 tablets somewhere down the line
And Knox will be a problem if you care about your warranty (and this goes beyond just rooting the device- unlike old days, you can't claim warranty again by unrooting after you root because of Knox)

Does it automatically void your warranty in every case though? I'm only worried about having my warranty for hardware issues like dead pixels or messed up buttons. On all previous phones i've owned, all that stuff would still be covered for rooters. I've always dealt with sprint though, not samsung.

Possibly.
This thread explains how Knox works pretty well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447832
Though whether that applies to Sprint warranties as well I have no idea.
This is for the S4 as well- the Note 3 will (obviously) have no non-Knox firmware, which may mean that Knox MIGHT act a bit different, seeing as its not likely there'll be any firmware with non-secure bootloaders. However with the S4 people have reported that the flags have changed just by rooting the device. So who knows what might happen.

I have the current Nexus 10. We will have to see what the Nexus 10 Gen 2 offers when it released soon. I can point out two features on the Nexus 10 that are exceptional. First, the forward facing speakers on each side of the screen. These are much better than the side facing (or rear speakers) on other units. I thought that Samsung's side facing speakers on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 were awful. Second, the timely software releases are something you will appreciate the longer you own the tablet.
I am someone that finds the s-pen extremely useful. External storage is something that I want also. I will wait for the Nexus 10 Gen 2 announcement, but I suspect we will be faced with giving up something no matter which way we go with these two tablets.
Biggest turn off is quality will be poop if rumor is true that the new Nexus 10 is being built by Asus. This is coming from owner of Nexus 7 2012 and 2013 models.

I agree about the S Pen part. I am really looking forward to the hi rez digitizer on the 2014.
I do like tue more mature apps for the iPad, but I cannot deal with a 4:3 screen any more. I read somewhere that switching to a 16:9 screen will be a major headache for devs, but I do not know if that is accurate.
Sent from my Galaxy S4 via tapatalk.
The biggest hold-back for me (from the Nexus) is the lack of memory. Removable memory is the best option, but I could live with fixed memory if they offer 128GB like the iPad now does. With how crappy internet is (if I can get it) while deployed or on exercises/travelling, I definitely can't rely on "the cloud"...

Ready to come aboard

Time for a new phone and it looks like I'm gonna go with the S7 Edge. I know it might be a guessing game but do any of you guys have a feel for whether Samsung might run a promo again soon. The store is offering the VR headset or a 256 card, neither of which overly enthuse me right now.
Wasn't sure if the iPhone launch and maybe the Pixel launch may help with my timing? (the Pixel does interest me though).
Any edumacated guesses out there?
Thanks!
