I had some major issues when flashing back to stock, it went to stock fine and then I installed the AT&T update and then it became wonky. Took me an entire day before I was able to get the phone working again but I can not get the WIFI or phone to work.
baseband I337UCUAMF3
build JSS15J.I337UCUEMK2
Its not letting me flash anything recovery
Ok, so I got the phone in mostly working order now. Its on the AT&T NB1 firmware now, just done the OTA download. Having a few problems, still very sluggish and buggy at times. The alarm doesnt work, whatever the alarm is set for the clock will just skip over that time, never seen that. Slow to respond when making calls. Play store doesnt really work, says downloading apps but will never actually finish the download and install anything. Any ideas at this point???
Looks like its been taken care of although I'm not sure why you double posted...

I've got two main problems with my galaxy s.
1) Today at around 1pm I had to force close something (I don't even remember what it was. I had just woken up the phone and went to check my mail, so I assume Launcher pro or something). It kept prompting me to force close, so I just took out the battery and reboot it. The phone can no longer get passed the initial screen (before the S). I've tried to reset to factory defaults, and it still doesn't work. I assume I can re-flash (not home yet) - but I'm wondering what would cause this type of behavior. FYI - I've been running 2.2 JPH with Rombie's mod)
2) I get really bad reception. I constantly will have my phone go from no service to 3-4 bars while sitting in the same spot. I also have a problem in busy areas where I'll lose my connection completely (whereas other people with different phones seem to have no problem right beside me). Is there anything that could be causing these issues?
Side note: When I originally upgraded to 2.2 JPH I had efs issues for a while, and it took me a while to get it up and running. It's working now (phone and data) - I'm just worried there's some residual effects of a mildly corrupted efs or something.
Update...
Things have gotten worse and I really need some suggestions.
I've tried flashing about 5 different firmwares and I can't get the thing going.
The closest I've come is with the stock jh2 firmware. It boots and it goes to a black screen after the S logo. I know this has been brought up but I have not had success with solutions I've found in other threads. I've tried it with pit512 513 and 803. I've tried it with repartition checked and unchecked.
When I try a 2.2 rom (such as the latest jpk) and upon resetting in the recovery mode, I receive an SDCARD failed to mount error (although one time I also received a failed to load DBDATA error). It also won't let me format the sdcard in this screen as obviously it can't mount it.
The closest I've come to getting the sdcard working is on the jh2 firmware i can "load update.zip" from my firmware, and it seems to actually load - unfortunately that update.zip is completely useless (as it's just an unlocker update i believe) - and I can't change the update.zip as I can't access the sdcard.
Please help if you can!
I had the same problem. My phone was working fine and then it just turned off and froze. I resetted it a few times and it would go to the S logo and then the screen would go blank and the buttons would light up. Resetting it a few more times made it work once but then when i started it again the phone would go back to the same problem.
I tried a ton of rom on it and some worked (but my internal sd card wouldn't mount). The problem got progressively worse by it's self and my phone wouldn't even start now. I recently send it back to Bell to get it repaired and hopefully they don't ping me saying it was my fault for ****ing around, which I doubt they will find out at this point since the damn thing doesn't even turn on.
I researched this a fair bit (2 full nights) and found out that it had something to do with me flashing Jp3 and that set my internal sd card as read only somehow. It's a bug and if you google it a lot of people have had this problem but none had a working solution and everyone of them had to send it back for repair.
Edit: I am also Canadian with a bell phone.
If I end up sending it back to bell, will flashing back to something like JH2 help cover my tracks?
Any idea how long it takes? I can't really go without a phone for more than a couple days =/

Honestly, it is a very frustrating process. They quote you a 2 - 6 week window and do not give you any hard time table and to top that off they don't have any loaner phones that are smart phones. The loaners cost $25 and $250 down.
I had to go out and find one from a friend and even then they wouldn't let me use a CDMA phone since i had a HSPA+ data plan and it some how ****s with their system. The only way you can use a phone on their network is using a HSPA+ phone if you need data. Luckily a friend had a HTC magic that was unlocked so I am using that now.
You can try to load up the default rom that ships with it and then send it in for repair.
Is the default rom JH2?
I believe it is this one I9000UGJH2
Alright so I can adb in to my phone when it's in recovery mode.
Does this help at all? Can i try anything from here?
Hello all, my family all just got new phones. Both my mom and dad got the S4. I activated my dad's phone with no problems and everything is running great. It did not get the OTA update so it is still on 4.2.2. My mom's phone on the other hand has some issues. Right after activating and running initial stuff, I got the OTA update message, and decided to update that phone. it downloaded, rebooted, installed, and rebooted again. It seemed everything went fine.
Upon further setting up her phone, I noticed that there would be a notification about Sprint ID downloading a "Default ID" pack, and it trying to install it. But it would fail every time. Any changes to the internet connection (going from 3g to wifi or vice versa) would trigger Sprint ID to start up over again and download and fail to install. This kind of gets annoying after a while. Since my mom's phone is not rooted, I can not freeze or uninstall the Sprint ID apk. Force closing it does not help, because it starts up again when changing internet. I spent a good 30 minutes with the Sprint Chat online with no help. Even factory resetting does not fix the problem. Sprint could not help, and forwarded me to a Samsung chat person online. After 20 minutes with that person, they said that they went through all troubleshooting steps and could not help and asked me to call their hotline (which is open on Monday).
The odd thing is, according to Sprint's website, Sprint ID isn't supported on the S4, and my dad's S4 with 4.2.2 does not have it. could the 4.3 update have accidentally added Sprint ID? Is there any way to remove Sprint ID without root? Or root with 4.3, and somehow flash back to stock 4.2.2 without messing with knox? I can try going to the Sprint store tomorrow and see if they can do anything, but I would rather try alternatives first.
on the phone that's already taken the 4.3 update you cannot go back to stock 4.2.
You can however root. Then install titanium and freeze the 'sprint installer' and sprint id applications.
Just wait 'till tomorrow do not take any risks because it's your mother's phone and she wont need root. Service will flash a rom to it hope it will fix it. Have a good day

Yes, take it to Sprint and have them fix it. You did nothing wrong so it shouldn't be upu problem.

So I went to the Sprint store today, to see if I can get my mom's phone fixed. According to the technician, there is nothing they can do until Sprint pushes an update to fix this problem. The technician tried fixing a previous customers phone with the same problem, and came to this conclusion. He even said switching out the phone wont help because eventually the 4.3 update will push to that one and might glitch like this phone. I guess I will hold back on updating my dad's phone when he gets his OTA.
I have temporarily fixed the notification by turning off notifications for Sprint ID, so it wont keep on popping up, but I do not know if it will try to download in the background or not.
I heard Sprint was going to push an update to fix the Knox notification showing up when switching to wifi on the S4 and Note 3, and hope they might attach a fix to this in the update.

I just received a replacement phone that is having the same issue, and it's on 4.2.2 - has not received ota update notice. In addition, the CF Root Procedure which seems to work for most everyone is not rooting my phone.
Hi.
I got an I9505 and having some issues with it.
It started when I was on "[AOSP] Official 4.4.2 - S4 Google Edition - Feel the Experience of Nexus" I keeped loosing sound when calling people and needed to reboot my phone to fix it, and it only worked for short period of time before I needed to reboot again.
I tried some wifi fix etc, but didnt work. So I flashed "OMN-I9505XXUEML6-20131228111854" But now the wifi isnt working.
I read alot of knox and to be honest its a jungle for me out there.
Just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction, I just want my phone working, either official room or a google play room.
Had regular galaxy s4 from att since it came out, never did any rooting or anything, updating to kitkat Ota when it was released and had no issues until about a week ago. I did a factory data reset because of too much junk on the phone and wanted to reorganize a bit, backed up everything using kies 3 and ever since then my data/signal cuts out randomly everyday, all day long. The more I text I noticed the more it drops, and then goes from LTE to 4g and it'll stay that way until some random amount of time, disconnect again, back to LTE once in a while but mostly be 4G. I heard of some issues with the kitkat update causing various issues like this but don't understand how a simple factory reset and restore screwed it all up or if it's even that. Tried full format, reflashing entire stock firmware and has done absolutely nothing for remedying the problem. Is it possible it's a sim card issue?

I have been having the same problems since I took an OTA update. LTE is very intermittent in places I know it is available and I randomly lose my cell connection for brief periods, which is a huge pain for SMS. I just flashed NB1 with ODIN and everything worked for the brief time before I updated to NC1 (LTE, no connection drop). When I updated to NC1 I started experiencing problems again. I subsequently tried flashing back to the NB1 modem to no avail
I tried ATT support at one point and they reset some stuff on their end (a while ago so I don't remember what) but that did nothing.
Anyone with any insight here would be my hero. This has been plaguing me since december.
Update: Tried re-flashing NC1 modem twice via ODIN with manual reboot. Still no LTE, not sure about connection drops yet.
Went to att store yesterday, thought maybe bad sim card, they replaced it and problem still persists... Looks like I'm getting the note 4 next month cause this is driving me crazy, so I guess I just need to put up with it until then.

+2 to this issue. My wife and I both have the same problem as you've described, and it's gotten progressively worse with time. The worst part is that the phone seems to think that cellular connectivity is still there as I still have bars. However, data, phone and text capabilities are all dead. The only fix is a reboot, and it's short lived.
I've read on another forum that disabling 3G and 4G eliminates the problem, but then you're stuck with basically no mobile data...
Anyone with advice, I'm willing to experiment!!!
It's hard to believe no one else is seeing this problem, or attempting to resolve it...
Wiped x3, flashed MDB mode and Odin'd back to stock MDB ROM. Let sit for an hour, then flashed back to stock NC1 ROM & Modem. Modem hang in less than a day...anyone else have any ideas how to fix these modem hangs? I don't have any ideas left.
Got the same problem. Mine started happening on MK2, so I updated to NB1 then immediately NC1. No change at all. I was concerned that it was because I'd rooted and was running Xposed framework and a bunch of modules. I was about to flashback to stock, but after reading some of you folks issues, I won't bother.
Looks like an upgrade sooner than later is in order.
My Samsung Galaxy S4 9505 recently started having some issues, first the sounds stopped playing, when I tried to play a music, it just skipped to the next one, then it stopped playing videos too and no sounds... I rebooted it and it worked again to just started having issues again but now it started having constant lag and freezes, the camera started crashing, and it then rebooted by itself, I flashed his rom again (albe 95) but it did not worked, the issues persisted, I tried a cyanogenmod one and a stock one and still no sounds... removing the sd card looked like fix the lag and freeze issues, but i still got no sound in it, sometimes when I wipe cache it works, sometimes not, sometimes just rebooting it fixes the problem temporarily, I dont know what to do anymore, could someone help me with it?
You need to try out the stock rom of your device (the latest one) and see if it works fine, did your phone fall?
It did fall sometimes in the past, but the problem started few weeks ago, and i am not sure if I flashed the right stock version of it, the previous owner used to flash roms a lot too, maybe there is some mismatch when I flashed Albe95 rom and modems, but I dont know how to figure out the right firmware...
Is the phone unlocked for use on any carrier? If so, any stock ROM will work, though for best results you should stick close to home. If the phone is not unlocked, what country and what carrier?
I think the phone is unlocked because I was able to make calls before, the problem started few weeks ago, but I dont know where the phone came from, maybe its from Spain like the previous owner said, maybe if I could manage to flash his original firmware the problems can be fixed, but i dont know what one...
I managed to fix the problem in some way, with the Phone INFO app I was able to locate the phone original carrier and country, found out its from VODAFONE from spain, with the ATL code, so I managed to download its lastert stock rom and flashed it, then I searched for its modem and wifi fix and flashed it too, defragmented the SD card and the problem seemed fixed, but then I restarted the phone and the problems came again... So I pickedup a screwdriver, opened it, and cleaned all its contacts with isopropyl alcohol, then I closed it again, when i turned it on, there was no sound issues anymore and no lag, but still was unable to do any calls, so I flashed a JDC AOSP Marshmallow rom and then everything was fixed, sometimes when i let the battery drain until the phone turns off, when I turn it on the sounds stop working, so I need to recharge it a bit, and restart again to it work.
