With the R3SG out I decided to install via the SE Update Service... plugged the phone in, followed the instructions (hard reset, plug-in USB when SE logo on wht screen appears). And the batt was on 80%. It downloaded the 128mb's and then failed to install...
Sorry for being a newb to this... but was I meant to delete that 'db' file that contained the update information to 'trick' the SE US?
Alternatively, can I just install the two RAR files for R3SG that have been listed in this forum? Meaning do I just copy the CABs and manually install each file? Or do I need to do some prep-work?
Sorry for the Q's again!
i think that the download is not completed try to re-update again, it supports resume downloading (maybe about 10 mb download when re-update and will install successfully)
NB: don't delete any file in this folder "C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\db\13740270\blob_fs\"
trying again now fadi.b!
says the Download is completed... The Update was unsuccessful...
ggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I was on R1 SG... does this affect anything?
Trying a 3rd time... installing timebar's moving this time
*fingers crossed*
3rd time was the charm...
please lock mods!
THANKS FADI.B
i had this problem, because i had 78% battery, then i connect my phone and wait for it had fully charged, then i tryed it again, and it works. of course, don't close the windows that says try again, when you have your phone fully charged, connect it to the pc, and hit try again.
Mod edit: not dev related, moved to general.
Closed as of OP request.
Best, DK

You downloaded the normal firmware or sde from archos.com?
Why you just install the sde and urukdroid? You dont need the normal archos android, do you?

I found my solution on another forum and it appeared that if there was a (1) or (2) etc in the firmware filename, the archos would not see it. I renamed the file taking the (1) out and low and behold it installed the latest firmware from archos.

Aaah that was the problem
You've downloaded the aos file several times
Would really be grateful for some advice.
Just purchased my a500 a week ago. Love it, aside from some minor bugs.
Question: had this puppy a week now, running stock 1.104.12 and have not been prompted for any updates. I see from the dev thread newer builds have been released. Tried to follow the steps to manually update, it fails every time. Any way I can force a ota upgrade or anyone available to help me manually upgrade? Will gladly give some paypal love for your time.
(Edit: I asked before I read the instructions the second time and realized my mistake at applying patches. Resolved.)
It's possible they removed all the updates in preparation for the 'biggie' (3.1) that everyone seems to be pinning all their hopes on.
check my sig
I bought two a few weeks ago. One for someone else. That one updated after 2 days, mine NEVER did get an update.
Manual check claims: "Your device is up to date" NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still on Acer_A500_1.105.01_EMEA_GEN3
I WANT my Exchange functionality ACER!

You are not alone. I bought one in early May and one in early June. The first received the update and the second has not.
After realizing my mistake..
I was able to use the ota update method described in the development section and successfully went to the latest ota update version. Give it a shot, not too hard at all.

Do you really think they going to push update right before the 3.1 update schedule?
Be patient that's it.
Try to update MANUALLY (with an SDCard and the method by following my link in sig)

Would be nice indeed. Others have received it, so I see no reason why I should wait. It IS available, so no reason not to give it to me and to let me wait untill July (god knows what day in July).

It took about 4 hours!
OK, the update itself went relatively quick and painless, but then of course my WIFI died. Took me 4 hours to get that fixed and then YES you do need root and root explorer ect. to get it fixed.
Browser seems to be even more f-ed now. Crashes like crazy. Well, I do have my Exchange support now............

What you did wrong dude ? I own 2 tablets and updated them in less than 5 minutes not each, both of them.
- get the file fit your tablet build version
- decode the file with the tool
- put the update.zip on your SDCARD
- reboot with power and volume down
- wait... 2 minutes
- tablet restart and you are updated.
I don't see the problem.

Let me make your list complete, then you will see the problem:
- get the file fit for your tablet build version
- decode the file with the tool
- put the update.zip on your SDCARD
- reboot with power and volume down
- wait... 2 minutes
- tablet restart and you are updated
- check and YES, new version shows up on your device!
- dance around the room; you have beaten the system!
- find that you have no internet
- find that you have no wifi
- reboot again
- find that WIFI says "error" and cannot be switched on
- reboot
- find that nothing has changed
- browse forums on XDA
- find "fix"
- download two files
- copy them to the required folder
- reboot
- still WIFI error
- figure out that you either have to really override/replace the files or that you also have to set the permissions
- find that you do not have a clue how to set permissions on files
- figure out that you probably have to root the device
- browse XDA
- find program
- download program
- put program on A500
- install program
- run program
- now A500 is rooted
- now try copy action again
- no luck, folder is R/O (read only) which means that the WIFI fix files still cannot be copied to the right folder
- browse XDA and Google
- try File Expert
- No luck
- Try Linda File Manager
- No luck
- Download Root Explorer 2.3.x
- Aha, this one allows for setting permissions and can set the system folder to R/W (read write)
- Bad luck, it is not able to set R/W to any folder deeper (or below) than "system". As the files need to go to System/Lib/Modules, I am still stuck
- browse Google and XDA some more
-find Root Explorers which can be installed via the Market. Bad luck, without WIFI, no market.........
- finally find Root Explorer 2.13.3
- download file. = .zip
- upzip it
- no files in the archive that can be run or can be installed
- ?????????
- lucky try; Rename rootexplorer2.13.3.zip to rootexplorer2.13.3.apk
- copy file to A500
- browse for file on A500
- install Root Explorer (so the trick with renaming worked)
- use Root Explorer to copy the two WIFI fix files AGAIN
- am now able to set the lower level folders to R/W also
- paste the files (that seems to work, no confirmation, no error message)
- reboot A500
- after reboot A500 directly begins to retrieve e-mails
- happy
- look at the clock. Should have been in bed already..........
- decide to set-up Active Sync (which with the new version is now available) and uninstall the e-mail clients that I used before to tacle that problem
- A500 seems to be a bit snappier
- browse the internet on the A500 a bit. Browser crashes to the home screen like crazy (looks like it has gotten worse)
- pissed off, needs more testing
- decide to go to bed anyhow..... it is LATE
Now you understand?
Robin
I understand that you are unlucky ghahahaha
Acer Iconia A500 - number 1
get the file fit for your tablet build version
- decode the file with the tool
- put the update.zip on your SDCARD
- reboot with power and volume down
- wait...
- restart the machine manually...
- get scared to loose all but restart the procedure...
- wait 2 minutes
- tablet restart and you are updated
- check and YES, new version shows up on your device!
- dance around the room; you have beaten the system!
Acer Iconia A500 - number 2
- put the sdcard of A500 number 1
- reboot with power and volume down
- wait... 2 minutes
- tablet restart and you are updated
- check and YES, new version shows up on your device!
and... life goes on like before...
You got unlucky that's it... sorry for you
I got lucky, i guess
No issues with wifi after patching - my first attempt did not work due to me not reading the directions carefully, missed the step where you take the update.zip file out of the unencrypted update file
These are official patches from Acer - suprised they are not aware of this issue? Guess I just got lucky - my update went perfect and my system is much snappier. Right after that I rooted it and have removed a bunch of the bloatware that comes preloaded - this thing is running great.
Now I just want 3.1 so hopefully 720p video can be hardware decoded. Until then, hdrips are fine for me.
I was browsing a help thread I have over at the dev.b2g google group this morning when I came across a post by Vance Chen. Look at the bottom of the thread and you will find a link to root the ZTE Open C!
You will need to have Windows Vista/7/8 to run the upgrade tool and flash the developer build.
First, you will need to download the ZTE Upgrade Tool, then you can either choose between a US build (for those of us who live in the Americas,) or an EU build (for those who live in Europe.)
Don't forget to remove your sim card before flashing!
Once you have the firmware downloaded, navigate to the directory you downloaded it to, then extract the .zip file. Now, open up the upgrade tool and click the browse button. You will need to navigate to the root directory of the extracted files. Once that's done, make sure your phone is detected and click update.
Here is the link!

Code:

No support at all lol for this phone, lol no matter I support myself, I have rooted device setup dual boot and built a recovery for this phone, now I like the phone.
Yes I know pics suck, I took them with a HTC EVO 4G, phone., back ups come out with 1970 date, I googled, just a date bug, doesn't bother anything. recovery boots to black screen, to overcome this , run scripts via adb in recovery then phone correctly displays cwm screen.

problem with ZTE Upgrade Tool
Hi, I want to root my ZTE Open C and install FFXOS 2.1: so first of all I borrowed a computer with Windows and tried to use the official upgrade tool but it does not find the device: any help about this? do you need extra drivers? to be clear: I plugged in the powered-on phone via usb, is this the way you are supposed to connect it or not? thanks
Bought an LG v20 H910.
One of the methods to change from standard ROM involved altering the phone to an H91510e.
Although the expected results from those instructions did not happen on this phone, afterward the phone WAS working as an H915.
Tried again with a different method to add TWRP to the (now) H915 but I fear it bricked.
1) I can get [fastboot mode] (vol-, then plug USB in) to come up but I have no idea from here how to get to install TWRP (or even it it did get installed).
2) Trying to enter [download mode] just gives me a colorful garbled screen.
3) Just trying now to turn on the phone says OS corrupted.
In [download mode] LGUP does run but it cannot determine the phone's model, so it won't do anything.
In [fastboot mode] the screen just has tiny writing that says "1140 fastboot mode" started, and above that it that has some data about the phone:
product_name - msm8886 64GB
variant - msm8886 64GB
bootloaded version -
baseband version -
carrier_info - N/A
serial_number - [serial number here]
signing - production
secure_boot - disabled
lock_state - locked
PS - The msm# above (8886) *could be* 9996 or 8996, etc. The print is way tiny and characters too close together. Can't really tell
Can anyone help?

Following the instructions at:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/root-h910-v10m-t3664500
Do I have the wrong instructions? At one point the instructions say :
"Download this modified ... DirtySanta root package: [link] - Extract this somewhere that you can run adb and fastboot from."
But that [link] is dead so I found what I assumed to be the right "LG V20 Root Package.zip" and ran that, but later problems (where the instruction on what to manually type in and run) are obviously for different files than what came in my ZIP download. The instructions call for .BAT files, but I have .CMD files, and they're in a sub-folder.
Also, even though the next link also seems dead I managed to find and D/L h910-10r.zip.
Anyway, running "adb logcat -s dirtysanta" does open a CMD window that freezes after "beginning of system & beginning of main, then nothing.
In the other CMD window I'm supposed to run the .BAT files I do not have and the .CMD files will not run.
So, going back now to the instructions If I want to pick up where it failed, where do I go?
I suppose I must start the phone in fastboot mode but even so STEP1.CMD will not run.
I can run "JustRunMe.cmd" which opens a couple of DOS windows but in there steps 1 & 2 both fail.
Step 3 does /something/ on the phone (files transfers?) then the phone reboots to that LG logo screen and stays there forever.
Thanks. (Hoping that helps you to help me!)

Trying to download the (15) files at that drop but (so far) one of the 1st several I've clicked on fails to d/l every time.
h910_root_pkg.zip seems to complete then I get a network error and the ZIP is corrupted. I tried mirrors, same result and I still have 13 files to go! The "full stock" d/l is another hour it says... Do you have another file drop or maybe all files in one ZIP?
Thanks. You're doing (as they say) the lord's work
PS 2 questions after looking over the instructions:
1) Nougat vs Oreo?
2) Once I have all the files can you tell me at what step in the instructions I should pick up at? The phone seems to be completely wiped out and I can only boot to "fastboot". Also, LGUP (that I have) will not recognize the model. The SDK says at the top left corner H910 and in the top right corner H915.
