Finally solved Alll issues moving Verizon Note 3 over to T-Mobile!!!!! - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If anyone out there has spent hours trying to get every aspect of data, voice, and messaging working after this switch, I feel your pain. However after days and days, and nights of no sleep, and countless hours of research and note taking, I have finally found the answer. This took piecing together many different bits of information from other people's fixes however never were able to get the messaging working correctly. So, after much ado, and way too much time waiting for this amazing feeling of success relief that is just a few moments away: Here we go. Note: Before starting this process, will need to make sure that you are with another phone, because you will need a phone call in order to complete the process!!!!!
Go into your phones "mobile networks" settings.
Make sure that your, Make sure that your "Preferred Network mode is: Global (This is important, change it once and leave it alone).
Turn off "Mobile Data"
Go into the "Access Point Names" listed under "Mobile Networks" and change your settings to EXACTLY as follows:

APN: fast.t-mobile.com
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: Not set

MMSC: (I cannot enter url's yet however, this is going to be what you have found across the board on all sites for the MMSC which includes: "mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc") Without the quotations of course.

Turn APN on/off: Needs to be checked with a green check mark unless it is greyed out and checked.
Bearer: Unspecified
Mobile virtual network operator type: None
Mobile virtual network operator value: Not set
After you have completed the setting exactly as above, hit the menu button and save the APN (Make sure that the circle for this APN is filled in green. Back out one screen, turn mobile data on, then back off and then shut down the phone. *Wait Five Minutes*
Turn the phone back on, turn on mobile data and (as hard as this is going to be) put the phone down and walk away! Set a timer for 10 minutes and have someone tie your hands behind your back if necessary!! Don't touch the phone..
At the end of ten minutes when you pull down the notification bar it is probably still going to say "no service" at the bottom. Even if it now says T-Mobile CONTINUE TO THE NEXT STEP if you would like this to work flawlessly..
Have someone call you or use another phone to call yourself. This is going to take several attempts (about 3 or 4) before it stops going to voicemail and the phone actually rings. ANSWER THE CALL, HANG UP..
Final Step: ENJOY THE LUXURIES OF HAVING YOUR PHONE WORKING PERFECTLY!!!!! YAY!!!
Note: When you make a call your phone is going to have to switch over on the networks for voice so it's going to ring an extra minute (don't worry it's normal). When you hang up the call it is going to take a moment for the network to switch back over to 4G LTE. Be patient and have faith in your success (It will happen). Don't start changing settings.
Good luck to all (Hopefully I didn't forget anything).

I forgot to add at the end of the original thread that I have restarted my phone several times since and everything is continuing to work, However instead of receiving a call, making a phone call out will quickly get you right back up and running again!!!..
I would love to hear feedback from anyone who uses this method and how it worked for you.

Are you able to get tmobile 4g LTE or H+ only, i'm asking because I only get H+. TIA.
Edit: Nevermind, got it to work, i had to delete the apn and reset, then re-add the apn.

Worked like a charm with one correction
Thanks a lot. It really helped me to use Verizon note 3 for t-mobile. I just made a call to T-mobile voice mail on Verizon phone is working perfectly now. I didn't need to wait or make several calls from other phones to make it work.

Woohoo!

*SOLVED*Defect Tab??? Won't connect to Bell's 3G network

Is there any special things to do to have the tab connected to Bell's 3G network when you want to use self service data plan? My SIM card was activated, they gave me my tab's phone # and ''all'' I need to do is to access the self service thing using the tab... the thing is when trying to access the self service I received an error message saying that I must be connected to the 3G network in order to have access to the self service.
I've spent 1h45min on the phone last night with Bell to try to have the Tab connect to the 3G network with no success Even worst, the guy made me do a factory reset otherwise he would not continue troubleshooting the tab... so now I'm back to square 1 and still no 3G network.
Bell's CSR told me to go to a Bell's store to try another SIM card to see if it works and if not to return to tab because it's defective The thing is I went to 2 different Bell's store and they don't know sh*t about the SGT.
Turn off WiFi, it only works if you're connected to the HSPA network.
With WiFi off, are you able to connect to teh internets at all, or are you just having a problem using the Self Serve application?
We did try turning the wifi off, no internet connection and no self service thing. All I get is an error message saying that I must be connected to the internet to access the web lol...I know that...that's what we are trying to do.
Bell's tech said that when the SIM card is insert I should see a 3G icon somewhere on the top right side of the screen near the battery and network bar graph thing but I don't see such icon.
He also said that his system see my SIM card on the network but there's just no data going back/forth from the network and my tab.
Did you set your APN for Bell?
I bet you didnt!
It might sound dumb but I really don't know how to do this more over I hope that it's something that I we've look with the Bell's tech???
**edit** looking under ''edit access point'' all field seem ok except for user name, password and server which all show as ''not set''

check to back sure it is the same, then reboot tab and test.
rmanaudio : My APN was already setup the same way as in your reply. I did add a new one again using the same values, rebooted and still nothing.
Try creating a second APN in that menu, call it anything you want.. just ensure it has a Name and an APN value inside (the rest can be blank).
Then move the radio button selector to the new APN you created.
Wait 30 seconds, then move the radio selector back to the Bell APN.
If your Bell account is properly set up to allow a data connection, you should see 3G appear at the top.
If not, call Bell back, ensure data is enabled on your account.
Problem solved!!
Well, case closed, everything's working perfectly now The lady who did the activation of my SIM card in the 1st place forgot to check the ''tablet'' option for the SIM card
Just sad that I've lost so much time on the phone with Bell's tech support and nobody ever look there.
Now I need to download/reinstall everything I had

[HELP] Got AT&T sim into International S3, calling works but data doesn't work

I got an international S3 from India and went to AT&T store to get a micro sim.
Got that installed and then the phone calling works fine but data (internet) doesn't work.
They said they would have to register my phone's IMEI but it still doesn't work. They put in a new APN, and still same. They called their tech and they couldn't help. Their last suggestion was to try calling Samsung, but I had to leave to get to work.
I believe there are already people using International version with AT&T for the S3. So any ideas what could be wrong?
Thanks!
Try factory resetting your phone. Other than that, make sure you have the $10/month data plan (unlimited messaging required) or the $15/month data (no messaging required). To do that you'll have to call into customer care and say you have an unlocked non-smartphone. If you go into the store to do this they'll give you the more expensive internet because they'll see you have a smartphone. If you're changing data plans it CAN take 24-48 hours for it to be effective, although it usually doesn't take that long. After that's done go into Settings, More Settings (under Wireless and Network settings), Mobile Networks, and then Access Point Names. Make sure there is an Access Point Name titled "Cingular 410". If there isn't then press Menu, and then "+ New APN". The settings should look like this:
Name: Cingular 410
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
User name: [email protected]
My Password field is auto-filled, so I don't have that. Try leaving it blank, but if that doesn't work call customer care and get that information.
Server: cingulargprs.com
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS port: Not set
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: Not set
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: IPv4
Enable/disable APN: Checked (this field is grayed out for me, but it is checked)
Bearer: Unspecified
This should fix it. The only thing I'm unclear on is the Password part.
Password is (all caps): CINGULAR1

Well now my SIM is completely unregistered, can't even make calls. Operator asked me to go to the store and get a new SIM Card.
So, this won't work without the switch to the non-smartphone data plan? It is going to be hard to pull off when I am in the store.

It should work just fine on the smartphone data plan, and you should be able to switch to the non smartphone data plan afterwards.

Ok, thanks. What should I tell the AT&T store people today when I go in the evening?
It feels like they did something on the account to screw it up. Would it help to suggest that they get this working on an AT&T HTC OneX and then transfer the SIM to my phone?
It could be that you have a defective SIM card. Take it one step at a time. Replace the SIM card. Make sure you have functionality with other services (such as voice and messaging). Check all the APN settings to make sure those are correct. Make sure you have a data plan for AT&T.
I'm on another carrier but I had the same problem at first, only phone call and sms working. I had to change my APN for the Data to work.

Thanks, I went back to the store. We got my original S2 working and this time switched to micro sim without making any IMEI/etc changes and it worked.
Anyone know what extra steps need to be taken to get the voicemail working?

If you're on Net10 with an AT&T sim card they say upfront that they throttle you at 1.5gb of data in any given month. I have yet to be throttled, but i'll probably hit 1.5gb this month with about a week left so we'll see what throttling is all about. Not sure if they just slow down the connection or completely cut it off, but I should know soon enough!
Be careful!

I hit some arbitrary limit before they had the 1.5gb cap. I was throttled and it stayed that way for months. I got jerked around by the phone support, email support and even their Facebook page staff for hours trying to get it lifted. It finally took a call to their "executive escalation" call center to resolve. I found that number on Howard Forums. The one that worked for me was 8008765753.

Usually extremely slow, ~4KB/s (kilobytes). Sometimes a little better, like ~10KB/s. Pretty useless.
Just posting some information in case it helps other people who might be searching like me...
The settings here from Net10 (scroll to "AT&T Network settings") result in no data:
http://www.net10wirelessphones.com/FAQ.html
The settings here from Net10 (click on "Phone Programming" and then "IF YOUR CARRIER IS AT&T") allow data, sms, and MMS:
http://net10sim.com/support.php
HOWEVER with these settings I still have intermittent data issues. For example:
Open Chrome, go to google.com = fast
Search for something = fast
Click the first result = hang, data connectivity lost (Chrome times out and says I am offline)
The settings here from xda behave the same as above:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40188181&postcount=49
To be clear: sms, mms, and data "work" with the xda settings but I still have problems with data dropping. So I'm actually using the settings from "net10Sim.com" instead because they behave the same and require less editing.
I've put in a request with Net10 support to get real, valid, official APN settings but who knows if I'll really get anything.
Seeing the same thing on straight talk...
Now straight talk and net10 are sharing the tfdata APN settings... (Some straight people have been migrated to this tfdata, some are still on att.mvno)
Its really hit or miss... and seems to get better at night..
I can do a speed test and get 6 Mb down in Tulsa ok area, then not be able to load a web page.. I can tell when its acting up because the plus sign next to the H cycles.. On At&t and Net10 (At&t simm) for me that did not used to happened until just a week or so ago. Tmobile's + sign would cycle all the time. Now when I am having difficulty with a page loading I see it cycling.. When things are going "good" (fast page loads, consistent speedtest.net tests) + sign doesn't cycle at all.
Its frustrating to say the least..

I got this all the time, it means the phone can't connect to Google services... Usually also means internet is broken or to slow, when it happens to me nothing would load for several second. Switched to AT&T GoPhone and haven't had a single issue with that again.

It's only been the past month or so that it's been doing that, before that it was fine. I've seen on another thread that the apn settings have changed after the roll out of LTE or that I might need a new sim card possibly.

To be honest, mine started doing it in early August (although MMS has never worked) and I gave up after 4 hours on the phone with their tech support telling me it was an issue with my phone and not their problem. Switched to GoPhone and haven't had a single issue since.
Not sure if this is it either, but an AT&T wireless tech (I work in telecom, this is an actual tech that works on switches and tower sites), that the towers give priority to certain customers like AT&T post/pre paid accounts over MVNOs and if the equipment gets busy it will actually block "nonessential" services like data to lower grade APNs. He said they have seen traffic increases much more than expected from MVNOs in the last couple months... Take it for what's worth I guess.

I have done those steps before. apn type doesn't have a selection. not sure if typing it in is the same. speeds are inconsistent. sometimes it drops to under 10kb and other times it reaches 10Mb. sucks because the speeds fluctuations is causing YouTube videos to buffer all the time making it unwatchable. Even switch to tmobile custom rom and still same issue.

The last thing, how old is SIM card? and not only that, sometimes the SIM's go bad, just consider replacing it, and definately, the first thing You can do is trying to edit your existing APN, let me know how that goes.......Good luck.

sim card was recently purchased less than a month ago thru best buy. I bought the starter sim kit (which I think was for prepaid), but tmobile said they don't have a problem activating it. not sure what else to edit on apn. called tmobile tech support and they said only thing really matter is the fast.t-mobile.com. also tried the epc.tmobile.com but slower speeds. could it be because it's an unlocked att phone?

Well good to know it's not because it's an att phone. Was your data consistent, because mines jump up and down.

Yes, it was consistent, I tried a lot of custom roms from the att note 3 forum and from the international note 3 forum.

This was part of a Black Friday deal, therefore it has nothing to do with the pricing in other countries. Amazon even had a 50" TV for $149 and there were many other deals...
yea, it's the bestbuy black friday $9.99 deal. It's even cheaper than usb or mp3 player. BEST DEAL
You can use it as backup phone or mp3 player.
Any way to get rid of Verizon activation that pops up every reboot?
This is for certain type of Best Buy customers.. requires some type of special account i heard.
I'm trying to bypass now. Wish me luck (getting on a regular Verizon account)
I managed to buy a couple of these for the Family plan on T-Mobile. I should receive them in a few days, so I'm doing my research now I've read the thread on switching the phone to GSM. Here's the plan so far. Any feedback is welcome:
- Put in Tmo sim and microSD
- Switch to GSM
- Subscribe to TMo Family plan (over internet or call in?)
- After activation, turn off update to 5.1 (do I need band 12 in southern CA? If not, any problems with updating to 5.1 ota?)
- Remove Verizon apps
Did I miss anything?

I recently switched two of these over to T-Mobile's family plan, and it isn't as easy as you might expect, although still very manageable.

This thread was incredibly useful, the green instructions are what you'll likely need to follow. Make sure you have adb on your computer beforehand. Once you finish with that process, you will need to enter in your T-Mobile APN.
Name: T-Mobile
APN: fast.t-mobile.com
Proxy: <Leave in Blank>
Port: <Leave in Blank>
Username: <Leave in Blank>
Password: <Leave in Blank>
Server: <Leave in Blank>
MMSC: mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS proxy: <Leave in Blank>
MMS port: <Leave in Blank>
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Authentication type: <Leave in Blank>
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN Protocol: IPv6 (Not sure if you need to change this, but I did)
APN roaming Protocol: IPv4
Bearer: Unspecified
MVNO type: None
MVNO value: Not set
After this, I ran into an issue with the network connection flickering. I'd have 4G LTE for a second, then no signal, back and forth. To solve this, I followed these instructions:
thisisthedroid said:
I'll elaborate and include what to do to get it to work with T-mobile mvno:
Download the Network app from the store.
Tap the square button on the bottom right of the phone to bring up all recent apps, and clear away everything.
Go to settings -> more -> cellular networks. Notice "Preferred network type" is on lte/cdma. Leave this screen alone.
Tap the circle button at the bottom of the phone to get to the home page.
Open the Network app.
Near the bottom you can "Set preferred network type." It'll be set on lte/cdma.
Below that, there's "turn off radio".
Turn off the radio, and then change the preferred network type to lte/gsm.
Tap the square button to bring up the recent apps, and tap the "cellular networks" screen that you were on earlier.
See if "Preferred network type" has changed to "global". If it has, then the following steps will work. If it hasn't, then skip to the bottom.
Tap the square button and go back to the Network app. Turn on the radio.
Quickly tap the square button and go back to the cellular networks screen.
When "4G LTE" shows up in the notification area, quickly tap "global" and you'll have the choice of 4G, 3G, 2G. Hurry and tap 4G before "4G LTE" disappears.
Now you've got 4GLte, and you'll just need to add an apn as well as select your network operator.
4G still works for me after a reboot. I'm on Consumer Cellular (T-mobile mvno), if it matters. I'm sending/receiving texts and calls, and data works.
If it doesn't say "global", then go back to the Network app, pick some other preferred network type, like lte/gsm/cdma, and try this again.
To get "global," you'll need some combination of turning the radio on and off, and picking lte/gsm or lte/gsm/cdma.
Maybe turn off the radio, pick lte/gsm, turn on the radio, THEN "global" shows up. I don't remember exactly.
Maybe pick a random preferred network, turn the radio on and off, and then go back and pick lte/gsm and look for "global".
But I do remember doing this process randomly dozens of times and whenever "cellular networks" said "lte/cdma" there never was a choice of 4g, 3g, 2g.
However, three times I managed to get "global" to show up, and each time I tapped on it the popup gave me the three "G" choices.
The third time I got "global" to show up, I managed to tap 4G fast enough, and it's been smooth sailing ever since.
One minor annoyance now though: whenever I restart the phone, I get a notification that the sim is not a Verizon one.
Thanks, lostnyc! Good luck everybody!

This took a little while to work, but ended up fixing the issue. You might have to fiddle with networks a good deal, but it will eventually work.
Or maybe you can bypass most of the challenge I had here and get lucky. Let me know if you need any help, I'd love give any assistance I can.
Thanks for the quick reply Mouse_exe. Did you upgrade to 5.1? Any issues with the upgrade, specifically related to using band 12?

That was during the early access or whatever BB calls it. I don't have their membership & was able to buy 2 of these.

I believe the device comes with 5.1 already, at least both of mine did.
The main issues were just connection based, but those were fixed with the method I mentioned. The one device didn't update the play store, so it was crashing. I just downloaded an updated version from a Google search to fix that.
The device has bands 2 and 4, no band 12. Works well overall, but you're not going to be getting the reception of band 12. :/ Still though, great phone for 10 bucks.
EDIT: Bands 2 and 4 are very common, you shouldn't need band 12 in the phone to get signal.
You don't need any special account, just buy it instore or online on blackfriday.
Bought 3, using on on T-Mobile and it works fine. Also managed to swap in a post-paid Verizon SIM into one of them and it works fine.
NOTE: REMOVE VERIZON PREPAID SIM BEFORE YOU EVEN POWER IT ON

Not sure if this helps , but saw this in another thread/post:

UPDATE!!!
DISABLED vzwAPNpermissions.apk & vzwAPNservice.apk and was able to change sims without having to redo the settings in ADB!!
Also, the phone automatically found my APN settings on different SIM cards after doing this!!
