[Q] poor video quality when uploading videos to facebook - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I have my S4 settings all the way to the max for video recording and I'm using the newest version of CleanROM. They look great on my phone but the video quality looks poor on Facebook after uploading. Do the video files need to be recorded in a specific format to upload with the best settings? Has anybody else had or have this issue? I have the same issue no matter what ROM I use.

its probably not an issue with your device but more facebooks issue

nothing permitting facebook...
facebook does not allow that, greetings

My Father In Law has a iPhone 5S and his videos are uploaded to FB just fine and have good quality. I think it's the compression being used when it first is recorded. I read somewhere that FB works best with H.264 so I was wondering what compression the S4 uses.

I am having the same issues. I've checked my video files and it's .mp4. I will try converting to H.264 and see if this works.

YouTube HQ not working right?

So I went to watch my favourite music video on YouTube (Earl by Earl Sweatshirt, if you're interested xD). Anyways when I went to load it in landscape mode, the audio would play but the video would not move. So I turned off HQ, and it started working great! Albeit, the quality was greatly dampered. I am on Froyo using Cyanogenmod 6, the latest release and I am using the latest release of the YouTube client from the market.
Sent from my HTC Dream
nope, the HQ videos uploaded since Jan or Feb 2011 have a higher resolution compared to earlier ones (640x360 as compared to 480x360),so they just dont play.the 320x240 vids play as usual,so in a way HQ doesnt exist anymore for our phones, unless you r watching an older upload.
This just sucks,if not HQ atleast there should be resize/fit to screen options in the player so the video doesnt get tinier on the already limited space.
Thanks for the clarification.
I was wondering why some HQ vids work fine on my magic but most of the time I have the same prob with Smokexz heh.
I've noticed while running Gingeryoshi 1.1, using the Stock Browser allows you to watch HQ Videos. But there is a slight delay from the press of play, to the actual playback.
Sorry for the bump of this old thread, but is there really no recent rom that allows for the play of HQ videos? Does anyone know if installing an old apk of the youtube app allows it?

[Q] iphone 4 to SGN burning questions.....Thanks in Advance!

I just got my Note in the mail from Clove UK. And everything is great so far, and I dunno if this is and Android thing (This is my first Android device) or a Samsung thing. When I play videos from You Tube or videos that I encoded the blacks are heavily pixelated. (Not sure if that's a word). Am I doing something wrong? What program and/or setting is the best to get rid of that black pixel issue? The test video of the jelly fish works great. Noob questions I know! Thank in advance again for your help.
My guess is that its not directly your fault.
There are several aspects to think of here:
- It may be that artefacts (caused by video encoded in low bitrate) are more noticable on a screen like that of the galaxy note than others.
- It may be that youtube just delivers you the low quality version of the video.
- The video on youtube may be in bad quality to begin with, try other youtube videos and see if it happens only on a few ones or many.
- Note: I see now you already tried the video, so that is probably not a cause. (Your screen itself may have some flaws. Check on that for instance by using a screen test tool like "Screen Test" or playing the video already supplied with the Note (Open the standard video player app that comes with it and select "lightness & slimmess"))
When it comes to watching youtube on a mobile device I recommend (if you have a mobile data connection with enough bandwidth, such as good umts or hsdpa or Wifi) to enable high quality in the youtube app (whenever possible, use the youtube app, and do not play it in the browser).
To do this hit the options button in the youtube app, select settings and enable the first option to enable high mobile quality.
Secondly many videos will allow you to switch between lower and higher quality with the HD button on the upper left (visible at the start or when you tap the screen while palaying) - if you enable high mobile quality this should be turned on to high quality by default.
When it comes to youtube thats probably all you can do to improve quality.
When it comes to playing videos in general (excluding youtube) the standard player can manage most formats. However if you have trouble with some videos you may want to give Dice player a try!
Hope this helps!
Ok thanks, I will def try that!
I belive this is coursed by the hight res/density of the Note screen and low quality of the video in YouTube app, I think the highest quality of video in the YouTube app is only 480P.
I also noticed this problem while streaming old TV shows from PLEX to my Note, this is less noticeable with my Tab 10.1 with the same resolution but its screen is about 4 times larger.
You could use the stock or most aftermarket browser and watch 720P YouTube using Flash on normal YouTube site.
simple solution is to not use the app and just use a browser. ive had no issues watching 720p videos in youtube on the browser.

can you post the youtube link so u can test on my Note.
I have also experienced this on other vids and am convinced it may a bit depth limitation of the Note screen... but need to verify.

I've noticed this too with the You Tube app. The blacks sometimes are blocky. A good example is the Avatar 1080p trailer, especially around 15 seconds mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_i2RCBa3l-g
If I view the same clip on You Tube via a browser (720p settings) it looks better, but the browser is a fiddly substitute for the app on a phone. It does seem to be mostly a bitrate limitation though, so maybe Google or a.n. other hacker needs to modify "HD" on their app to mean a higher bitrate, now we're defining 1280x800 as a mobile screen resolution .
[edit]
Actually, if I watch that Avatar clip in the browser with a playback quality set to 240p or 360p it obviously looks pixelated, but doesn't show the blockiness that's in the You Tube app stream. Looks like the app either is handling the stream differently (badly) or the stream itself is different to that which is sent to the flash plugin in the browser. Wonder if Google is using a different codec for their app. WebM maybe?

Big improvement.
That really is big change. Hopefully developers get that to custom roms!

just tested it. not a single lag at 720p on youtube with flash on opera. With cm7 it lagged like hell.
Also, the GPU has been fixed so you can forward the video and it will not give you "This video is not available." when watching videos from the internet.

Υeah thats right big 3d graphics improvement, nenamark2 i get 31fps (thats even higher than dual core htc sensation) I updated first post with a new link taken with lgcamera (720p 30fps , acc stereo sound 128 kbps 48khz). The quality of sound and video is better on the file i got on my pc. thats because youtube compressed the file and made it from 8200kbps to 3000kbps
Now we have real 720p recording. for me this was the major improvement of 2.3.5
Could someone also post some photos?
Along with some info (native camera app, lgcamera)

Samsung S4 Youtube 1080p60

I'm using a GT-I9505 with wizcyan 3.2 rom. I was wondering as the tilte says if this phone can handle 1080 p 60 videos.
If so what is the problem of not being able to play it (it freezes but audio is working fine).
If there are tw, cm or aosp roms that can play it, how did they do that because I'm very curious about it.
Still no answer? Hmmm...
Anyway I looked at qualcomm's site, they claim qualcomm 600 can play up to 1080 hd...
I'm thinking it can't support 1080p60, but I heard someone can see 1080p60, which make me doubt about qualcomm's statement.
I hope someone can answer me.
It doesn't. Do a Google search and you'll see couple of threads where people have the same problem as you. Or maybe that's just something related to the YouTube app. Maybe it can play [email protected] fps videos that are on the phone's storage.
Anyway, YouTube should work with [email protected] fps.
And the difference in quality isn't really that big. This difference is further minimized by the fact that you're watching it on a mobile phone screen and even 360p would look acceptable.
I constantly download videos in 360p (to save space and time) and they look surprisingly good.

You're wrong, it's because of the ROM - if You're on CM, the phone can handle 1080p60 with ease. If you want to, it can even handle 1440p but yeah, why would you with a 1080p panel. tl:dr Depends on ROM

[HDR VIDEOS] 4k HDR videos from Samsung, LG, Sony and BBC Planet Earth.

Hello.
I'm not the person who have originally written this, but i'm gonna copy and paste it from the Galaxy S8 / S8+ section on Reddit where i found this.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello everybody,
Here is my collection of 4K HDR videos, all working on the S8. There are 13 videos with a variety of demo material from Samsung, LG, Sony, and BBC Planet Earth.
These videos only work in HDR with the "Samsung Video Library" player (available from Play Store). This will NOT work with any other video player (MX Player, VLC etc.)
For some reason, the video player only plays in HDR when the file is in .mp4 format, and not with .mkv. This is the reason why all the demo footage online doesn't work, most of it is in .mkv format.
If you have your own HDR footage, you have to change the container from mkv to mp4 using ffmpeg before you can play it on the S8.
Make sure to increase brightness to 100% and set screen mode to "Amoled Cinema" for the best viewing experience.

Or this one: https://pastebin.com/uLUCVzit
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is the source for that: https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS8/comments/6hc534/galaxy_s8_4k_hdr_videos/ (the post was deleted for some reasons).
Watching those videos, specially the 'LG_Cymatic_Jazz_HDR10.mp4' video made my jaw drop to the floor when i was watching that with the screen brightness on 100%.
WARNING: Once you have seen HDR videos on your Galaxy S8 / S8+ phone, you will never go back to another phone without HDR and Super AMOLED screen.
Enjoy.
EDIT: I added a new MEGA link with all of the videos in one link from my own MEGA account.
hi, do you know why when i move any video from the original download carpet it doesnt play as hdr anymore? happens with all videos, if i move them back to the download carpet they play as hdr again.

Hmm, weird. I have those videos placed in my own folder somewhere on the internal storage. But they are still being played with HDR for me when I opens the HDR videos with the 'Video' app from Samsung.

Yeah. I just tried to make 2 new folders and then move the videos into the folder that is 2 folders deeper from where they was. It's still working fine for me.

Thanks for changing to mp4.
I just notice once you rename the video then the HDR will not work. HDR is there once I change back to original name.

Now it wasn't me that changed those videos to .mp4. It was the guy from the source who did it.
And also. I just tried to rename one of my HDR videos and then run that video in the 'Video' app from Samsung. HDR was still working fine here.

No idea, I got one video change name then it not playing in HDR, but after I change back it play.
Anyway I not plan to change name already, as long it play is fine.
By the way I play using Samsung Standalone Video app which need separate download at Samsung Galaxy Apps.
Very nice.
Oh, look what did pop up at SamMobile's page earlier: https://www.sammobile.com/2017/06/1...t-hdr-videos-on-your-galaxy-s8-s8-and-tab-s3/
And look at that 'VIA' link at the end of the article on where it goes . Yes, it's linked to my thread here.

You can watch the videos with no problems, but you wont be able to see them with HDR on those phones as they don't support it.
All i can is is WOW, makes my 4K Samsung TV seem very poor, look dynamics and colour really do surprise you and your eyes panic and adjust.

The HDR effect looks nice, but there is also a lot of vignetting/color banding (especially noticable on the Planet Earth clip with the small lizard). Looks way better on my LG OLED anyways.... But could be sloppy reencode job...

Ok, i don't have a Galaxy S6 or S7 here now, so i can't test to confirm this though.
Can someone else with access to a Galaxy S6 or S7 test some of those videos out on those phones to see if they works, or if they only works on devices who support HDR?

As you know it is being reproduced in HDR and not just good quality? Is there any symbol indicating that it is playing in HDR?
Might sound like a dumb question, but how do I confirm HDR is active? Have the S8+ and played these videos using the Samsung Video app (after setting display to max brightness and AMOLED Cinema). They do look nice, but I was not blown away. Perhaps HDR was not active?
