So sorry for adding to the battery life threads, but I'm pretty frustrated.
I've seen people posting screen shots with 18 hours uptime, 7 hours wake time and 50% battery on custom roms. I've seen people getting about 24 hours on a single charge.
I've had my evo 2 weeks now, and I've tried about 3 different ROMS and 4 or 5 different Kernels all of which promised LONG battery life. I'm currently running BakedSnack 1.7 with Kernel #5. My phone has been on 10 hours, 2 hours of wake time and it has only 35% left. Couple of short phone calls, 10 mins Pandora and a bit of browsing and texting here and there. I was expecting more after rooting, yet it seems almost the same as it was before I rooted.
Am I expecting too much ?
I've gone through the full discharge/recharge cycle about 4 times so far. Bad battery perhaps ?
will the phone charge get you through a day say 10 hour work day ( includes travel time )
imho your expecting to much with 10 hours in to your charge and still have 35% left is pretty damn good imho
Baked Snacks is a great rom ! its no the battery check your TWS
Depends what you are doing, some things (3d games, flash) will drain the battery faster than others.
If you are at 10 hours and 2 hours awake with 35% left, thats not too bad. You should end up around 16-17 hours with 4 hours of awake time.
If you are talking on the phone, that will drain your battery the fastest.
Make sure you completely condition your battery as well (as many posts show)

It will make it through but usually by 5pm its around 30%. I almost have to make an effort to use it sparingly though. I really like the Baked Snack Rom, its very slick probably the best I've had so far. TWS was 3% today.

Have you tried SetCPU? I have stock rooted with SetCPU (Perflock Disabler ftw) and without a signal 13-25% of the time (meaning the phone is searching for a signal), I end a 10-12 hour work day with about 45-50% left. Underclocking to 250 while the screen off has helped a lot.
This seems to be a common concern. first please remember to take everything with a grain of salt when it comes to people reporting there battery times. There are just to many factors to say ok if you use this rom and this kernel you will get 20 hours of battery life. Also many of the people reporting battery life exaggerate. sure they may ahve gotten 50 hours between charges on stock battery... but they surely didn't have moderate use ... or any real use during that no matter what they claim.
from another post it seems the majority of people in that post (with everything tweaked calibrated and set up) were getting roughly 13-18 hours of battery life out of there phone with normal use. normal being defined by actually using your phone as a phone as well as using its other capabilities. So my feeling if you are a moderate user you should expect to fall into this area as a goal. Things to help would include setCPU, making sure you turn off data when you shut off screen (or getting a program to do so for you - juicedefender) and making sure you calibrate your battery and battery stats of your phone.
it seems like you are getting close to this range however you are having to watch your use to do so. as others have said the first thing i would do is get setCPU and set up a battery saving profile. read through some of the battery threads if you havent and look for setting changes that wont impact you tremendously but will help save battery (for example if you dont use landscape mode a lot you can turn off autorotation and save some battery). If you are using froyo and are running a task killer uninstall it since it doesnt work any way. While most settings will make a small impact together they should help get you to where you can use your phone moderately through out the day with out worries.

Don't get me wrong here, the thread wasn't about me complaining, more about setting my expectations.
2 Years ago I had the first Touch Pro which would be dead by 3pm regardless of usage. At one point I had 4 batteries. I got the Touch Pro 2 a year later and it could go 2-3 days on single charge with normal usage. It was like night and day.
Granted this is a much more powerful device than either of those, but I feel like I've taken a step backwards with the battery situation.

I tried out SetCPU but the phone was slugglish for me at times and once or twice I had to reboot.
I'm probably just gonna grab an extra battery and a desktop charger so I can charge one battery while the other is in use.

Thanks alot for those tips, I'll give SetCPU another go.
I haven't tried out Juice Defender but I'll look into that as well. Turning off Data when the screen is off might be just the thing I need!
I just bought it yesterday and the battery like last around 4 he's. Now I bought this phone cause I heard it has great battery life like the Atrix. What do I do? I have juice defender running. Please help

If you just bought it yesterday..... then give some time to calibrate thr battery! Just keep using it and let the battery reach normal. Most new batteries require 3-4 charges to start running fine. Give it a few days

+ 1 the battery needs a few cycles to break in. Also, are you rooted are you running a custom room or kernel these things can have an affect on your battery also.
No I'm not rooted or have a custom kernel. I'm running stock.

Strange, I get a day and a half of heavy use with the brightness maxed and running a live wall paper. I thought my Xperia Arc had great battery life but the Nexus S is insane!
OP are you using task killers? Don't. It takes up more battery for your Nexus S to re-start those apps than it does to manage them on its own.
It took my battery like a week to act right. Give it time

a day and a half?? howd you pull that off? im usually charging about 10-14 hours thorough heavy use.
agree with everyone else, give it a few days.
I used some advice i found the said kill battery, charge full, kill battery, charge full, kill, charge, then use it. Charge it while it is off during that time.
First couple of charges, the battery would die after about 5-6 hours of constant "messing around" with the phone. Now it seems like it'll last a good time.
Im completely stock as well.

I dont know. I don't really game on it so maybe thats it, but I am surfing the web constantly. When I go out I turn wifi off...thats about it. Oh and the only widget I am running is a clock and the weather for the clock is set to refresh every 3 hours "simi clock" is what its called.
Thats about it, I dont know what else to say. I came from an Xperia x10, Samsung Captivate, Xperia Arc, and now the Nexus S and its MILES better...so much so that I have decided that I will only ever own a "Nexus" line of Android.

Like everyone else said you really need to give it some time to break in.
My first day with the Nexus the battery was dying as I left work (roughly 9 hours off the charger).
After owning the phone for about a month now it's changed dramatically.
It lasts well through the entire day, every day. Before I go to bed it's usually sitting around...
70-80% LIGHT use.
50% Moderate use
35-40% Heavy use. (Note: I don't play games, Heavy use to me is multiple short calls, many emails, many texts, IM)
I've never actually had the phone die on me.
I'm using CM7 (Latest Nightly) and the Netarchy CFS Kernel (default settings with the exception of VooDoo Color tweaks)
I don't use Juice Defender. Phone sits on 3G most of the day at the office, at home it sits on WiFi with the WiFi sleep policy set to never. (Wifi uses much less power then 3G, if you have WiFi, USE IT! and set sleep policy to never so WiFi stays on constantly instead of switching back to 3G when the phone is idle)
Do use a task manager but it didn't seem to make a huge difference.
Aside from letting your battery calibrate, you should try out juice defender. I know alot of people might scoff at a such an application but I've experienced over a two fold increase in battery life using said application. However I am running an undervolted netarchy 1.3.4 kernel with Oxygen, but said increase in battery life is with the same configuration.
Yeah it takes around a week to break in the battery. My battery life is pretty awesome. I usually charge it every other day now. It lasts a long time.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
Guys... battery break in isn't gonna change his usage from 4 hrs to 12 hrs. No battery break-in does that.
In all these cases I suggest looking at battery info in the OS itself to see if something kept the phone awake or whatever.
Sure heavy use in your first few days will always take a huge toll on battery. Calibration shouldn't totally throw off your battery life down to 4 hours either.
You guys who say heavy use, can you quantify that?
talk time per day?
texts per day?
roaming?
4g?
how many emails sent/received per day?
time on internet?
/shameless plug
try battery tweak in dev forums... i posted it in both of them

I'm in the same boat as you. Just got my Nexus S 4G on three days ago and the battery dies QUICKLY. The first day it died in 5 hours (with normal use and 4G off). By the time I unplug it and get to work, which is only a 20 minute drive, it's already down to 93%. I'm hoping everyone else is right in saying that the battery just has to be worked in a little.
I have 8 hours on battery right now with about 40% remaining in day 2 of my Nexus' usage. I made about 6 phone calls, sent out about 20 text messages, browsed the internet while waiting for a job interview and played Plants V Zombies when I was taking a dump.
I really only expect it to improve from here.
Out of curiousity, does anyone here have their "Use Wireless Networks" checked under the "Location and Security" settings (where it uses your 3G)? I have this enabled and I know this will drain my battery, but I wonder how much? The only app I have that updates my location while the screen is off is the stock News and Weather app (which only updates every 6 hours, a bug that automatically turns itself back on if you reset your phone). How much collection would Google do other than that?
Also, the other thing I have enabled is my Exchange set to push through the default Email app. However, this never really shows up on the battery usage app, so is push STILL killing the battery a lot through the stock app?
I'm just trying to see how people can get two days with 50% left after work (if just on 3G). On WIFI, MAYBE, but def not on 3G......
I have to charge my SGS daily.
Reading some opinions at forum I noticed that average SGS lasts about 2 days.
In 6 hours sleep SGS eats 10% battery (previous phone with same battery, more stuff: max. 3%).
What kernel and ROM are you preffering?
Thanks.
MilkyRom - Best for battery
Hi,
I'm a fairly light user and I found MilkyRom v1.3 to have amazing battery life - I could get between 4 and 5 days use from one charge:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207466
It's also really fast and stable too Downside is that it's only JVR
I've just moved to ZuBy's JVT ROM and that seems pretty good too - I reckon I'll get at least 3 days from a single charge:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360372
Enjoy!
unles the creator of some particular mod have not broke anything there will be no change in battery life betwen mods
only thing that could impact battery usage is user
I got amazing battery life on stock JVT with Semaphore, as long as I disabled 3G and WiFi when I didn't need them. We're talking 3+ days with 3+ hours with display on...

Just switch off WiFi, 3G, GPS, synchronizing, direct push, etc. and finally set your display brightness to 10%!
is there the FC bug with Semaphore kernel also?

I use obsession XXJVT (wich is almost fully stock, only difference +16 lockscreens) chainfire kernel and I get full 48 hours of intensive usage. About 10 - 15 hrs of youtube, 2-3 hrs gaming, about 30 mins of talking and 30 sms to send. And with 3g and WiFi always on. To mention I do not use any tweaks than Juwe's RAM script.
can anyone please confirm no FC with custom kernels?

Impossible.
Had the best battery life with some Darky ROMS so far, but I am always wondering about the stats some people post here. I was far away from these runtimes the whole time I own this device.
Maybe because I keep 3G, WiFi, Sync etc. on most of the time... But that's what I bought a smartphone for.
If I would disable everything that makes my Phone a smartphone I could also have bought a Nokia...

It all depends on the kernel anecd the options that have been applied. Too many variables have to be considered and their corelations as well. That said no FC should take place if everything is applied correctly according to creator's suggestions.

MIUI mint berry has a very good battery life. On samsung firmwares I had to recharge the battery 2 times a day on my normal usage.
I currently use galaxydroid 3.3, with semaphore 1.9 kernal. This give fantastic battery life, drops only around 5-6% over night, I have wifi, gps and 3g all switched on all the time and the 3.3 rom gives loads of nice little tweaks, which are gone from 4.0

I think this will be a good general discussion:
Whats the battery performance like for you guys on a 2 year old phone, i know after a while the battery begins to degrade which is why im trying to see if this is the case for everyone
Also what rom, kernel, tweaks are you using to get your current battery
1.5 years ago I easily get 6-7 hours screen on with power saving mode, for now i only get 4-5 hours with the same usage with Hurricane rom.
this phone is not two years old......
Yeah this phone is not 2 years old yet.. but aside, I love the Note 2 and don't plan on upgrading. I have 6 batteries for it, plus a external charger, so I never have to plug my phone in again. As far as UI goes, yes, it's missing some features, especially on 4.1.2 (luckily I never did the update ), but its multitasking features are kick-ass. At least for beginners. I had to tweak things to my liking, thanks to Xposed, such as default expanded notifications, Multiwindow for all apps, and such, but now that I have so much time into tweaking this phone I have no reason to upgrade.
I hardly noticed any difference between the time I purchased and now. My phone is 18 months old now.
Then again it could b me using 2 batteries and rotating the battery between uses so it doesn't degrade that fast.
But then again I'm not on stock rom. I was using miui in the past. Then regret upgrading to 4.3 which I found it too big of a hassle to downgrade to use miui again (4.1) and used hurricane rom with note3 mod installed. I tried ditto kitkat beta and rc1 but always reverted back to hurricane after a day of usage.

you have something keeping the phone awake or chewing the battery...most note 3 get about 15-25 hours per charge... i keep my brightness fixed at about 25% i have greenify now it seemed to help.
How do I check what it is? I'm not sure what it could be but know that 15% with 8 hr total battery time and 4 hr screen time that it's a little under what I expect out of a note3.

solution to low battery life
It doesnt seem to be a problem since my old note 3 had the same battery life.
A tip ill give u is to try to turn off the wifi every while...
And also try to use this app: screen filter
It reduces battery life by lowering the brightness.

I think this is quite low for a 3200mah battery. Anyone give me any suggestions to prolong the battery?..or reasons why I can't seem to go a full day?
...I posted this because my bro has stock nonrooted S5 with high brightness on whole day and can easily go 1.5 days with same on screen time so I was lil disappointed in my note.
Thanks ahead of time for any help!

I have similar issues however I get a little better battery life as I have basically turned off every good option on this phone in order to make it last . Ive concluded that this phone has terrible battery life due to Android 4.3 and higher sucking up the battery unnecessarily .. the background processes are endless and truly destroy the daily longevity and options of this phone. Take a look at the Note 2, same battery, different operating system and more or less same hardware and out of the box the note 2 lasts WAY longer than the note 3 (at least from my own personal experience). Frankily, if it was possible, I would love to downgrade to 4.2 (or 4.1.x) to see how significant of a change the battery life would be. Thats my 2 cents

Retail Verizon Note 3
running Hyperdrive 8 with patches to fix settings ask
stock kernel as I don't have a dev unit
and it is used moderate to heavy with video streaming to my Chrome cast.
I use greenify and es task manager to disable auto starting programs. I see many more reports of other people getting 20 hours with 4 hours screen time.
and it doesn't really matter but could cpu scheduler is ondemand with i/o being row

that just adds more evidence to my theory... the android 4.3 OS is a battery sucking operating system when it doesn't really need to be.
I never had a problem with 4.3. I was running hyperdrive 4.3 with greenify, v6 supercharger, and a crap storm of other tweaks and xposed mods and with very little usage (didn't take a screenshot of screen on time) I was at 5 days 13 hours 43 min with 6% battery left. I tried to update to hyperdrive kit kat and had nothing but problems so I flashed stock nc2, upgraded to nc4 modem and have spent the last week (couple hours a night) modifying and tweaking. I'm currently at 1 day 20 hours 13 min with 4 hrs 15 min screen on time and I have 19% battery left. I would probably be closer to 25%-30+% but last night I decided to go all out with the cpu control and run antutu benchmark twice to test different I/o schedulers.

So do you think with a custom ROM instead of being on stock 4.2.2 will help me get more outta the battery?

Probably the first step would get better battery stats and find out what is draining your battery. Freezing app apps won't do much to save battery if your not freezing the ones draining battery. Also look into greenify you can hibernate apps that you need installed and to run frequently but can put them to sleep when you don't need them
Also I got rid of V6 and decided to do min free and kernel tweaks manually with Rom toolbox pro. Not sure if a fluke but currently I've had 2 hours of screen on time and only dropped 20%. That's as much a 10 hours screen on time on a single charge.

Did you flash to stick slot and flash nc2 before flashing hyperdrive or were your issues some menus did not work if so those have been patched and everything works now.
I had wakelocks that lagged my phone (500k+ in twelve hours) and ran the batter almost dead in that time. Yea I flashed nc2 upgraded to rsl8 and updated the modems. Just didn't feel like trouble shooting anymore and with xposed I can have everything I want and biting I don't
