Note3 running Beans stock 4.2.2 rom. I've removed/disabled a lot of the system apps/bloatware and run a couple xposed mods (in pic below). Phone was half on wifi half on good 4G; also in good service areas entire time. GPS off, automatic brightness. I only get 4hrs of screen time and total running time is approx 8hrs with 15% left. I think this is quite low for a 3200mah battery. Anyone give me any suggestions to prolong the battery?..or reasons why I can't seem to go a full day?
...I posted this because my bro has stock nonrooted S5 with high brightness on whole day and can easily go 1.5 days with same on screen time so I was lil disappointed in my note.
Thanks ahead of time for any help!

you have something keeping the phone awake or chewing the battery...most note 3 get about 15-25 hours per charge... i keep my brightness fixed at about 25% i have greenify now it seemed to help.
How do I check what it is? I'm not sure what it could be but know that 15% with 8 hr total battery time and 4 hr screen time that it's a little under what I expect out of a note3.

solution to low battery life
It doesnt seem to be a problem since my old note 3 had the same battery life.
A tip ill give u is to try to turn off the wifi every while...
And also try to use this app: screen filter
It reduces battery life by lowering the brightness.

I have similar issues however I get a little better battery life as I have basically turned off every good option on this phone in order to make it last . Ive concluded that this phone has terrible battery life due to Android 4.3 and higher sucking up the battery unnecessarily .. the background processes are endless and truly destroy the daily longevity and options of this phone. Take a look at the Note 2, same battery, different operating system and more or less same hardware and out of the box the note 2 lasts WAY longer than the note 3 (at least from my own personal experience). Frankily, if it was possible, I would love to downgrade to 4.2 (or 4.1.x) to see how significant of a change the battery life would be. Thats my 2 cents

Retail Verizon Note 3
running Hyperdrive 8 with patches to fix settings ask
stock kernel as I don't have a dev unit
and it is used moderate to heavy with video streaming to my Chrome cast.
I use greenify and es task manager to disable auto starting programs. I see many more reports of other people getting 20 hours with 4 hours screen time.
and it doesn't really matter but could cpu scheduler is ondemand with i/o being row

that just adds more evidence to my theory... the android 4.3 OS is a battery sucking operating system when it doesn't really need to be.
I never had a problem with 4.3. I was running hyperdrive 4.3 with greenify, v6 supercharger, and a crap storm of other tweaks and xposed mods and with very little usage (didn't take a screenshot of screen on time) I was at 5 days 13 hours 43 min with 6% battery left. I tried to update to hyperdrive kit kat and had nothing but problems so I flashed stock nc2, upgraded to nc4 modem and have spent the last week (couple hours a night) modifying and tweaking. I'm currently at 1 day 20 hours 13 min with 4 hrs 15 min screen on time and I have 19% battery left. I would probably be closer to 25%-30+% but last night I decided to go all out with the cpu control and run antutu benchmark twice to test different I/o schedulers.

So do you think with a custom ROM instead of being on stock 4.2.2 will help me get more outta the battery?
sent from my AK-57
Probably the first step would get better battery stats and find out what is draining your battery. Freezing app apps won't do much to save battery if your not freezing the ones draining battery. Also look into greenify you can hibernate apps that you need installed and to run frequently but can put them to sleep when you don't need them
Also I got rid of V6 and decided to do min free and kernel tweaks manually with Rom toolbox pro. Not sure if a fluke but currently I've had 2 hours of screen on time and only dropped 20%. That's as much a 10 hours screen on time on a single charge.

Did you flash to stick slot and flash nc2 before flashing hyperdrive or were your issues some menus did not work if so those have been patched and everything works now.
I had wakelocks that lagged my phone (500k+ in twelve hours) and ran the batter almost dead in that time. Yea I flashed nc2 upgraded to rsl8 and updated the modems. Just didn't feel like trouble shooting anymore and with xposed I can have everything I want and biting I don't

I'm noticing that battery life is worse in 4.2.2 - I was on cm10.1 nightlies w. Cm10.1 kernel and was getting about 10 hours screen-on time before I needed to charge, but I'm getting 7 hours at best on 4.2.2 stock (rooted, bootlader locked).
I have the usual culprits turned off - Google now, location services, currents background updates etc. So I hoped I would at least get the same.
Anyone else?

Yes! I just read that. I am just about to do it now.
I can't comment on battery life, but did notice something a little alarming with regard to battery drain. Was on the couch for an hour talking to someone using viber, just plain text. No video or audio. Tablet was plugged into the wall, and after about an hour i noticed that the battery had gone from 100% to 98%. Should not be possible for a simple messaging app to cause the battery to drain faster than it can charge. screen was on auto brightness as well.

Did you look at your battery information to see what was using the most energy? Display is always far and away the highest for me, and if it was on Auto Brightness, depending on the lighting around you, it could have been running at full brightness...which would be a pretty massive drain on battery.

Once the device reaches a full charge it cuts off the power draw to avoid damaging the battery. It's normal for it to hover between 97% and 100% while still plugged in.
I barely get 6 hours of use now.

I did not look at battery usage, but the screen was generally dimmed, where as normally i have it manually set to full brightness, and nothing was running in the background that would not normally be running, that is to say nothing other than android stuff, it's basically a tablet for internet, email and skype/viber while i watch films etc on my computer

Indeed, but this has never happened before and i typically run the device with screen on maximum brightness. on 4.2.1 it would always show 100% when plugged in, i never once saw it drop to 99% or below.
So without further analysis of the issue, it could either be that something is sucking more power, which would seem odd, or that the update has brought about changes to the way the device charges, or changes to the way the device displays the battery level.
Damn guys, I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I'm jumping around in happiness when I manage to get over 6 hours of screen time lol.
I've been on battery for the past 12+ hours with about 6 hours 15 minutes screen time and still have 36% battery left. Battery seems at least as good as on 4.2.1.

Thanks, I've done this now, and get about 5~6 hours of screen time now with around 50% left.
My battery life has gotten considerably better after updating to 4.2.2. The biggest improvement is how little the battery life drains on standby...it's nearly nonexistent.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD
Standby has always been great for me. With stock rooted 4.2.2 I'm getting great battery life. Loses maybe 2% after 8-10 hours idle. In constant use I'm averaging 11 hours on screen. I have everything on and synced but as I'm indoors I stick to 30% brightness. Also, I'm mostly just browsing. With games the life would be less for sure. Totally satisfied with the battery life of this tablet. If yours is getting truly bad battery life I suggest you try searching for rogue apps. After that, try a complete reflash of the stock image which deletes everything. Another thing I've found that helps performance is setting the WiFi band manually. As I have a pretty good router that utilizes both the 5 and 2.4ghz bands I set mine to 5ghz only. I live in a town house and 2.4ghz can be pretty congested even after turning my antenna power up to 150mv or greater. The 5ghz band is pretty open. I'm getting load times on webpages comparable to my i5 2500k sandy at 4.5ghz and ssd with its 5ghz WiFi n wireless card. This is the quickest rendering tablet I've ever used.
As an aside, the complete re image to stock 4.2.2 from Google might fix reboot problems as well. It seems to do wonders for people with battery and other issues on early n4s. My screen on mine is new but the hardware is from launch day.

My battery life is significantly worse after the update. I flashed back to stock 4.2.2. It seems that the problem with mine is my tablet isn't sleeping. Android os is the highest battery user. Maps is taking a lot too. I have Google now and location services turned on so I'll try disabling those again... No rebooting though

do you mean reducing the maximum cpu clock to 1.5 ghz?
I think this will be a good general discussion:
Whats the battery performance like for you guys on a 2 year old phone, i know after a while the battery begins to degrade which is why im trying to see if this is the case for everyone
Also what rom, kernel, tweaks are you using to get your current battery
1.5 years ago I easily get 6-7 hours screen on with power saving mode, for now i only get 4-5 hours with the same usage with Hurricane rom.
this phone is not two years old......
Yeah this phone is not 2 years old yet.. but aside, I love the Note 2 and don't plan on upgrading. I have 6 batteries for it, plus a external charger, so I never have to plug my phone in again. As far as UI goes, yes, it's missing some features, especially on 4.1.2 (luckily I never did the update ), but its multitasking features are kick-ass. At least for beginners. I had to tweak things to my liking, thanks to Xposed, such as default expanded notifications, Multiwindow for all apps, and such, but now that I have so much time into tweaking this phone I have no reason to upgrade.
I hardly noticed any difference between the time I purchased and now. My phone is 18 months old now.
Then again it could b me using 2 batteries and rotating the battery between uses so it doesn't degrade that fast.
But then again I'm not on stock rom. I was using miui in the past. Then regret upgrading to 4.3 which I found it too big of a hassle to downgrade to use miui again (4.1) and used hurricane rom with note3 mod installed. I tried ditto kitkat beta and rc1 but always reverted back to hurricane after a day of usage.

Yeah, those friends xD. On s3 you can play for about 3-4 hours depending on game. You must take care of screen on time. Look at it on yours friend phone Thats the real time of using your smartphone. Max screen on time that i had was about 5.5h but I was only reading a book. And the 3g browsing eats your battery like a boss I discharged my phone in 2h so thats normal.

Use BetterBatteryStats to have full control over it. Also, I don't know what apps you have running, but try to use Greenify.
You're running a custom rom, so the culprit can be the kernel too. Use an untouched stock kernel if you want or heavily tweak the custom one you're using.
We can't tell you more than this, because we don't know what you have installed, what you have running and how do you use it.
check out BetterBatteryStats, as already mentioned for the real battery killers.
put down the brightness to a low level
turn off your mobile internet in moments you dont really need it (i.e. during sports). just like you turn off wifi, when you leave your house
Is your phone 2 years old?
Buy a new battery.
try calibrate battery or boeffla kernel
Looks like your battery needs to be recalibrated.
Completely drained your battery & charge it for 8 hours without stopping during the night.
It happened to me too a few weeks ago when I bought a new battery.
Use BBS, greenify & tweaks your kernel settings will definitely help too.
Good luck
I still like the look of the S2
Replace your battery
Either get another Samsung battery - or go big and get ZeroLemon 7000mAh - worth every penny! and you get used to the size & weight pretty fast.

BATTERY DRAIN ON EVERY CUSTOM ROM\KERNEL EVER
Let's go:
Samsung Galaxy S4 T-Mobile GT-i9505 (NO NOT THE SGH-i337, I DONT LIVE IN AMERICA)
Whatever ROM \ Kernel i tried: DRAIN
Kernel : Any
Location off
bluetooth off
signal strengt: Lived almost under a cell tower, 100 percent signal
Airplane mode, wont make a difference
Sync off (ALL SYNC)
New battery : Not resolving anything
Wipe? I could wipe for billion times wont solve ****
Brightness low - (auto disabled)
Disabled automatic time
disabled google maps log report + Disabled the whole app
Disabled auto update play store
disabled virbration
disabled touch sounds
disabled automatic wifi scan
Removing SD Card : Nope not solving anything
Trying different roms? : I tried all possibilitys
Calibrated battery? Check no solve
"Settle the rom (bull**** but was worth trying) No solve
Replaced model??Check! No solve
Gsam Battery monitor? Check, Not a drastic drain...??
Undervolting, .. nope
underclocking,,, nope
powersave governe? nope
Using 2g as priimary network? you can already guess it
Average battery 100-0 5 - 6 hours. When using losing 2 percent in 3 minutes average, playing simple games (COC) 30 percent in 10 mins
The solution to get normal battery back?? TOUCHWIZ STOCK (EVEN CUSTOM BASED TWROMS DRAIN)
So my phone lasts longer, if it only has 500 mb ram left instead of 1.3 gb (wich was on custom)
Battery goes longer with bloatware from samsung + tmobile running in the background
Its like if you drive 200 kilometers per hour on max rpm using less gasoline then driving eco mode on low rpm.
IM SICK OF IT FOR OVER 4 BLOODY YEARS ALL THE SAME BULLS*T
ANY HELP IS MUUUUUUCH APPRECIATED
THANKS IN ADVANCE
YOU GUYS R AWESOME!!
PEACE!
Custom roms don't have the same battery life as stock roms, true.
But what you're describing is clearly not normal. Last time I charged my phone was 18 hours ago. I'm now at 75% percent. There was some moderate usage (mostly texting) but the phone was mostly idle.
Well the only constant factor is you. I think you just expect to much of a smartphone. A screen on time of 2-4 hours is normal. Also it's common to charge it every night.

Yes i don't have problems with charging it overnight
I have problems with charging it 2 times a day, it goes off the charger round 12 midday, and is already empty round 17.. with minimal usage, whatsapp, not even facebook or what so ever.. i play a game for like 10 mins, listen to music.. all by all i dont do too much on it. still it goes to fast to zero

Maybe it has something to do with root. Since it happens only on rooted roms.
I can't find any explanation why you have good battery life on stock but bad battery life on any custom rom.

Hm that could be, i really don't know..
im getting arround 3:15 ,3:15 hours and its so awefull , how much do you get and what to do ?
You'll find that SOT will be a wide range without at least some defined criteria to follow. While usage (games and videos will simply murder battery) and cell coverage will play a huge role in the disparity, you'll also find a difference based on other factors like ROM (stock vs. AOSP/CM), kernel, time off the charger, phone's % awake time, etc. With all that said, 3-4 hrs seems to be the avg for many users who run AOSP/CM, have bad cell coverage, or otherwise poorly optimized phones. Those who do some optimizing (Greenify, Amplify, custom kernel, etc.) will find 4-5 hrs on avg. Those who do some heavy optimizing with their phone may find 5-6 hrs.

Thank you for replying , do you have any tips on optimization , im on stock 6.0.1 rooted , no kernel (i tried to install franken but couldnt make the wifi work)
I managed to get 7hs, but once. It really depends on your usage. My Pure is pretty much modified (lowered resolution, underclocked, limited cores, using mods and apps).
well, might be 12-16 hour for normal use
stock Rom, with root
stock kernel with 5core offline during screen off

Never hit 3 hours and I am not a power user by any means I gave up trying to fix it months ago. I am completely stock as well.

I am looking for MXPE too as it has Unlockable bootloader but after reading its bad reviews about its battery life makes me no go for MXPE.
PS: Currently Owned LG G2 gaving me about 4-5 avg SOT, 7 hours SOT With Extreme Mods(Cust.kernel, greenify, servicely etc).

I have my Moto X Style since a month now. I use Greenify to shut down apps when the phone is about to rest for a few hours while I'm working. I'm not rooted, so completely stock.
I don't have a screen on time, but think the battery is far to be so bad. Coming from an Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 5.5, the Moto X Style (or Pure Edition) battery is better. And the fact that with a power charger it charges so quickly (70 minutes or so), battery is not an issue at all for me so far.
Phone is quick and great and I think the camera does a killer job, better than I thought it would. Screen is awesome as well.

what are your cpu settings and all that?
4-5 hours on stock MM
Best I've ever gotten, the phone shutdown less than a minute after this screenshot... Just over 10 hours of use, including about an hour and a half of airplane mode, and nearly 4.5 hours screen on time. This took keeping brightness way down and I was lucky not to have poor signal during the entire time.
Sad part is this seems impressive for this device... I came from a Moto G 2015 and it would go 18 hours of use with 6-7 hours of SOT easily, or a more typical day of 3.5-4 hours SOT over 16 hours of use and around 50% battery remaining. I never really worried about battery life on that device like I do now.
Seriously debating on going back, selling my MXPE well it still has decent value, and either grabbing a G4 or waiting for the new Nexus devices.
