This is just unbelievable the crappy new device Sprint announced. Major fail. It is amazing, every tech site forum on the internet is all over this, criticizing it. I have never seen a new product hated so fast. Makes ya wonder if Sprint does any type of focus group testing before releasing a new product, because no one is gonna buy this turd. They will be giving this phone away in Happy Meals soon.
They just rip this a new one;

Nothing positive in this thread, pretty scathing reviews;

Another set of hilarious comments in the forum section at bottom;

I hope Sprint management is aware of the horse thrashing this craptastic device is getting reviewed as. They are out of touch with what the majority are looking for, news to confirm there will be an EVO 2 this Summer or sooner, or a CMDA Nexus phone, or a high end WinMo7 phone by HTC.
i agree!
I think we all are waiting for HTC to save us from this dS phone kids play.
And To bless us with a Evo 2 This summer!!
Sad thing is that like most corporate, they'll still try to force push that phone (mass advertising, etc...) to blind themselves of the truth: their new phone is a total fail.
With the money they'll put in the mass ads, they could use it to buy paper bags and put them on sprint's execs heads for making such terrible decisions.
Really Sprint? While Verizon is unleashing the iPhone your big reveal is an extra screen? Don't get me wrong, I have no desire for an iPhone, but why are you better than Verizon exactly?
I have been defending Sprint for a while now, but I may just give up if they continue to kick themselves in the balls at every turn.
Plus..lol at this from the Gizmodo review:
"Kyocera is pushing as a pseudo-tablet. It's rectangular, yes, and uses electricity, but beyond this it has virtually no commonality with an actual tablet."

with motorola unrolling a 3.0.1 honeycomb update and flash now giving hardware acceleration, its safe to say xoom is slowly tapping into its potential..and theres more in store.
obviously the hardware thats promised but the performance gain is going to be great.
i guess im sounding like a fanboy when i say this but it really ticks me off to see the IPAD2 score on engadget and the xoom.
if they dont update xooms score as these updates come through and others (4g, micro sd slot, bigger **** in pants) i will have no choice but to eat a great nyc steak medium rare with a nice cold beer after work.

Dude, get the steak anyways! Substitute the beer for a scotch and you're all set!
Personally, I'm going to go with a ginger seitan taco and a tequila/mezcal old fashioned.
FACT - Chuck Norris owns a XOOM and gives it three thumbs up!
Seriously, though. I doubt they'll change their score. Did you read the iPad 2 review they did. He said "iPad 2 isn't just the BEST tablet. It's the ONLY tablet on the market."
Bah!
Engadget is useless anyways. Who cares what they rated the Xoom. Their reviews hardly ever offer any unbiased information.
I like Engadget but there's no denying that they have an Apple bias. That's fine, as long as I like the device I couldn't care less what any fanbois think.
I dropped engadget from my feeds after that line.

I only read engadget for breaking news, etc. I've found their reviews are extremely opinionated and biased and so I don't bother to read them anymore. They always say Android is good but not great, that it's half-baked and not where it should be, and they always give the iPhone and other Apple products (like the insanely overpriced Macbook) the highest reviews and hardly fault them for anything. To say the least, I find that kind of thing annoying coming from one of the most popular blogs on the web. They call themselves journalists but I'm not sure I believe that...
I will say I do still read reviews done by Chris Ziegler. He uses Android phones daily and doesn't own an iPhone, so unlike Joshua Topolsky, I rarely find Apple bias within Chris's reviews. But Josh does most of the big profile reviews (Xoom, etc.) and so I don't read those done by him. I know what I'm going to find were I to click into the review: an unfiltered display of Josh's love for all things Apple. And he ends every review the same way: "(insert apple product name here) is the single best (insert device category, i.e. phone or tablet) on the market today."
Reviews are mostly just opinion most of the time anyway, so I don't think I'm missing much. If an Android product has a big enough flaw to not be worth buying, I'll find that out before a review would be posted anyway.

so true, i love engadget on everything except apple. its boggles my mind how biased they can be, its just not right. ars technica is so good with proper technology reviews.
my theory also is because of the massssiivvee ipad infactuation, this leads to a slow down on technological innovation, really. Paying high amounts of money for standard tech specs (namely their laptop products) and ipad as well (ram, cpu)
anyways, i dont want to sway too far into this flame ****, people like how it looks and thats its highest value. Bleh
Ill probably have a single malth scotch then.
Updated reviews would be nice, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I will say that if Motorola is able to get out some significant fixes before the WiFi-only version of the Xoom drops, like Flash support (3/18 woohoo!), then hopefully people would just simply do a review of the WiFi-only version and then say that all this also applies to the 3G version that was available initially. Motorola does need to get their marketing act together as you don't often (if ever) get a second chance to make a first impression. I would love to see a Xoom commercial that copied a bit from the iThing commercials where they simply show the apps. For the average user, showing that Android has a lot of the apps that they want will do way more than implying that your tablet can turn into a space ship...

engadget is known to have an apple bias. joshua topolsky even wrote an editorial just praising apple paragraph after paragraph.
but i'm starting to think they do it on purpose to generate more page views. seriously. most engadget readers are anti apple, yet engadget, owned by AOL, is wholly on the side of Apple and its sleazy marketing tactics.

Exactly this. I like Engadget for everything else, but they don't give Android a fair shake at things.
When you introduce a "new" line of products*, the base assumptions about it are yours to define. A lot of people can't shake the conception that a tablet =/= an iPad. An iPad is a version of a tablet. It's not the base, simplest (all jokes aside) form of one. Android gets points deducted because it's not iOS when it never claims to be. That's where Engadget and other reviewers get everything wrong.
*I know Apple didn't invent the tablet. But for all intents and purposes, it might as well have.
reviews have been a smoke and mirrors show for a while especially in the technology space. there are so many different ways folks use their devices, it makes it tough to do it. I was all gun ho until i found out native mail didn't work with my exchange, then i saw reviews of how touchdown is on par and even rumors they are looking to fix the exchange side certificate issues, might as well get in on the ground floor
there are people out there that are absolutely clueless about Xoom and they will always, and i'm sure some of you guys experienced it, say "is that iPad2?". instead of saying "no", i just let them play with it and show them all the applications. then i'll tell them this is actually Google's tablet - honeycomb.
they're just dumbfounded afterward.
Beating iPad2.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-15559778
Braindead media experts are in shock that their beloved Apple did not win it.
However anyone with any sense already knew this. I mean the Transformer beats the iPad2 in every respect.
* 7x the camera megapixel count.
* 20% more screen resolution.
* USB2 ports
* Dock with double battery life
* Lower cost
A win for great technology over average technology and slick marketing.
-----
"Despite the iPad 2 being a finer tablet in the purest sense, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer offers so much more," Stuff's consulting editor, Simon Osborne-Walker, told the BBC.
-----
:/ ifag much?
but seriously the TF deserves it
---
Asus is expected to launch a successor hybrid device within the coming weeks. Analysts say the new version is likely to include a faster processor and the latest version of Google's Android system.
---
are these so called experts living under a rock or something?
I'd love for them to define how it's actually "finer tablet in the purest sense,"..
I mean if any other company launched a tablet with a main camera with a pathetic 700k pixel camera, when even cheapo smartphones have 5Mpixels camera, they would be absolutely slated.
It's a vicious cycle of course, all these "experts" only know iPad2, because they simply can't be bothered to look elsewhere (and many of them get complimentary review iPad2 units to keep, so why bother..), so just assume that it's the best because it's best selling, and it's best selling just cements that further...
well personally i find alot of apple customers to be borderline obsessed with apple products..... its kinda scary, the power that marketing has on people with weaker minds :/
The Asus Transformer has won Stuff Magazine's Gadget of the Year award beating the iPad 2

No ****, I'm married to one. She won't even consider Android anything anymore. She has made it clear her next phone will be the iPhone 5 and we sold the iPad and she is using my Transformer and *****es about it EVERY SINGLE DAY demanding she get an iPad 2. Yet...one of the main things she wants to do is Skype (with family) which is much better on the Transformer due to the camera but she just doesn't get it. Oh, did I mention she has never even used an iPhone before, but she said she just knows its better...
So, in an effort to stave off a domestic violence situation and/or divorce...we are buying a stupid iPad 2 today.
I love her in every other way...but her understanding of technology is a disappointment. I guess no one is perfect...well...except us here in the forums.

Who will pay? If you then do not buy! Ask him why Apple is the best and if the answer is so foolish, he is a believer in Apple. Apple fan boys and girls are the worst. Android is in many ways better than iOS.

My wife is the exact same!!!!!!
Except her drama is with an HTC Desire Z (she "had" to have a hard keyboard lol). Which although she has never had an iphone, claims it has no problems and would work perfectly unlike the daily rubbish desire Z lol
The TF gets the same abuse, never used an ipad but claims it would be better because Polaris office doesn't have a spell check (to be fair it is a bit annoying but hardly a reason to condemn an entire device to the bin lol - oh and the browser's quick controls confuse her lol).
I dont understand these people what is wrong with them why have a slower processor less ram a crap camera updates that come out once in a blue moon and a market where almost nothing usefull is free and a system thats under more control than a chinese media centre
I admit time wise ios has the phd and android is still a student but that student is a prodogy

Way to go Asus though. My transformer is the best gadget I've ever owned. I've finally been able to ditch my HP laptop for business meetings.
Because it's Apple; 'nough said. If I had so many froathy mouthed lunatic fans as the cult of the Mac' then I would invent a thermo-nuclear death ray and direct them to take over the world for me. Hehe.

I'm blessed, because my fiancee generally takes a "That's retarded!" view of such things; be it blind Apple Fanboyism (It's just better because it's Apple) or pretty much anything else like that. Wouldn't be surprised if she went iPhone should she someday take a smart phone, which is perfectly fine with me. It really is a major pleasure to have someone like I do, and knowing that the girl I love can apply her mind even there: rather than joining the mindless mob. I love that Firefly.
Differences like what you've got to deal with are probably ineveable in any relationship IMHO but at least you don't have to trade in all your crap for iCrap lol.

iOS is only good if you Jailbreak it. Without Cydia iOS sux. It's slow and clunky. The true tech savvy person knows that Android rules over iOS in every aspect except for ergonomics. Apple still has the thinnest phones and pads.
Asus really won me over with my transformer, I have an iPhone 4 and i decided to go android for my tablet to get sense of them, now i can't stand using my iPhone it just doesn't do what I want it to do and I know my next phone will be a Nexu phone... except i have another ytwo years on my contract.... Damn you Canada and your 3 year contracts

Without jailbreak you can change the socks and with jailbreak you can change shoes. So it's not a big deal. Without root allows you to do more than jailbreaked iOS device.

Mad Catz no more.
Obviously this won't have any effect on those of us still enjoying their hardware, but I am sad to see them go. I think this comes mostly off the back of certain Rock Band endeavours...
Sad, but when I think right back to N64, hell even earlier days, I must have bought loads of their gear and it was usually of a pretty good quality. Certainly the MOJO is a really nice build quality too, reminding me of owning a Sega Megadrive back in the day in fact.
So farewell Mad Catz.
At first i thought it was an April Fools joke, bad it's true so sad, pitty for them
I'm hoping Mad Catz would allowing XDA to maintain their legacy by providing the MOJO source code so we can keep the system relevant for those of us that have it.

Sigh this isn't a hate comment: they're becoming quite like the rest of the other companies. Thing is I don't rev think they need such things to sell their porosity.
The 3 or 3T (don't remember, to lazy to open youtube) also had an #extremeunboxing inside a fighter yet, this one was probably way cheaper.
But I agree, OP doesn't need those videos. I honestly don't think tech enthusiasts will get lure with videos like this.
This kind of video cost almost nothing to do...
I feel like advertising budget really doesn't affect a comapny like OP as much as people think. They are owned by some of the richest smartphone companies in the world.
But I do agree that this is a stupid advert.
Marketing sells devices. Everyone is doing it just different ways

They didn't need to do this. That's the point. They sold out last week before the add was even published
I agree that while this was a useless ad, as was mentioned before the OP3's extreme unboxing video definitely would have cost them a lot more. It doesn't cost that all that much to rent a lambo for the day considering that aventador is nearly a half million dollar car. (a close friend of mine rented one for his last birthday at a VERY reasonably price point) Obviously there's more than the cost of the car with ads such as this but it's still significantly less than a fighter jet + pilot for the day.
