Now that root for 4.4.2 is available I rooted and looked into the filesystem and processes and found that there seems to be no more root checker tool in 4.4.2.
ps | grep rctd shows no process with that name
in /persist there is no more rct.cfg
hidden menu (3845#*802#) LG RCT shows LG RCT Check disabled
download mode showed unrooted in 4.2.2. and showes rooted since I flashed the 4.4.2 kdz (d80220b-german-open) with LG Mobile Support Tool
Can anybody confirm these findings? Is there a new root checking mechanism?
Phone is a D802.A6DEWH running D80220b-EUR-XX

UPDATE
Another interesting find:
The reason why on 4.4.2 my phone showed ROOTED in download mode was obviously the absence of the root ckecker. To be more specific it was the absence of the two status files:
/persist/rct
/persist/rct.cfg
Luckily a had those saved back from 4.2.2 from an unrooted state and simply copied them over.
And guess what - now my phone shows UNROOTED in download mode though it really isn't.
If needed I can provide those two files. (pm me with your email)

i have 4.4.2 and it shows rooted in download mode
i used kdz file method
i dont care if it shows rooted or not because i know if i flash kdz file again without root then it will show unrooted.
we purchased this mobile and now its our, so dont want to cry over these stupid things when we can claim back warranty
If it's a 4.2.2 kdz it will, but if it's a 4.4.2 kdz and what I found is correct it won't.
Appart from that, I totally agree @mor_1228

How to save those files from Unrooted state? I am on 4.4.2 and now it's Unrooted because I went the hard way.
Flashed 4.2.2 did a factory reset and took OTA Kitkat update and finally I have Unrooted in Download mode.
Are those files device specific that is will your files work on my D802?

I still sense a bit missunderstanding, so I try to clarify what I have found on my phone. (D802.A6DEWH)
The phone came with stock 4.2.2 (d80210d-EUR-XX)
Took the OTA to d80210e-EUR-XX (still 4.2.2)
As there was no rooting done whatsoever the phone showed UNROOTED in download mode
then I rooted only the adb shell by copying over the g2_security file from ioroot as described in the manual method.
As this doesn't trip the root checker phone still showed UNROOTED
I investigated the whole root checker tool stuff using that adb root shell and found out, that there's a process called rctd (root checker tool daemon) using two files:
/persist/rct and /persist/rct.cfg
/persist/rct is a binary file containing only 4 bytes:
Code:
40 42 0f 00
/persist/rct.cfg is a text file and in my case contained:
Code:
Not rooted
[g2:0197ec3553924872:4.16]
at this point I made a backup of those two files
then I remounted /system in rw mode knowing that this would probably trip the rct
after that /persist/rct.cfg contained something like
Code:
rooted
21.03.2014 19:56
remounted system read/write
[g2:0197ec3553924872:4.16]
and as expected download mode showed ROOTED
then I copied over a file named rct_security containing "forel.lee" as described here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45659334&postcount=21 and rebooted
After the reboot the rct_security was gone and download mode showed UNROOTED again
After that I upgraded to 4.4.2 by flashing a kdz for some d802 using the R&D Tool offline mode as described in method two here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
Looking again into download mode it showed ROOTED although it clearly wasn't
I then thought that maybe that was because of the g2_security file still on the phone or maybe the fact that the rom was not made for exactly my device version or the fact that i had used R&D tool.
As I didn't have root then (not even in adb) I could not check the /persist/rct.cfg becaus I couldnt even ls /persist/
So when the update for my phone finally arived in normal LG Support Tool
I first flashed back to 4.2.2 using R&D offline and did a factory reset
download mode showed UNROOTED once more
Then again i updated to 4.4.2 (d80220b-EUR-XX), this time using stock LG Mobile Support tool (as I remember I didn't do a factory restet then)
looking into download mode showed ROOTED like after the first update to KitKat
still without root I couldn't investigate further.
Then root for 4.4.2 arived
Once rooted again I found that at least in my phone there was no process nor binary called "rctd" anymore and also no /persist/rct or /persist/rct.cfg
Then I copied over those two files from my backup from 4.2.2 and after that download mode finally shows UNROOTED once more (despite the fact that this time the phone really is fully rooted)
MY CONCLUSIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS
Download mode only looks into /persist/rct and /persist/rct.cfg and shows ROOTED or UNROOTED acordingly (and ROOTED if the files are missing)
Stock 4.2.2 has rctd so when you flash back a 4.2.2 kdz root is removed and /persist/rct and /persist/rct.cfg get created UNROOTED
Stock 4.4.2 has no rctd (at least when flashed through kdz) and by flashing 4.4.2 kdz /persist/rct and /persist/rct.cfg get erased -> ROOTED because files are missing)
Doing the OTA from 4.2.2 to 4.4.2 maybe just doesent touch the whole /persist partition and therefor leaves those two files the way they where thus stating UNROOTED in 4.4.2 if that has been the case in 4.2.2
If taking the OTA like flashing the kdz too has no rctd then rooting the phone after the OTA should still keep showing UNROOTED in download mode.

I don't really know, there is a number in /persist/rct.cfg that could be related to a serial of some sort,
you would need to copy them when you're on 4.2.2 and you only have rooted adb shell (no full root)
but If I guess correctly doing the OTA like flashing the 4.4.2 kdz does not really have a root checker anymore and so rooting your phone now would still leave you with a download mode saying UNROOTED

Epic find OP. I think LG forgot to add those 2 files in their KDZ or it was done purposefully to discourage KDZ flashing.
But even if we factory reset on 4.4.2 it will trip the root flag which means it is a case of pure carelessness on LG's part.
But on plus side, I can be rooted and yet be UNROOTED just by copying over those 2 files.:good:

How much pain is it to copy two files from A to B ???
I used IORoot25 on 4.4.2
Result: Rooted with SuperSu installed
Download mode: UNROOTED :highfive:
I made a backup of /persist/rct.cfg and rct too
My rct.cfg has different data. So it maybe related to IMEI or Serial Number or even based on Regional settings of ROM.

Hello,
A few days ago i've updated my Galaxy S4 to android 4.3 from android 4.2.2, but Samsung Knoxx blocks Odin from downgrading back to 4.2.2 (using SamMobile rom). When I restore the factory defaults, my S4 directly starts up with android 4.3, so i think it's impossible to get back to android 4.2.2 without rooting.
So I was wondering if it's possible to root my device on android 4.3, get back to android 4.2.2 and unroot again so I can stay on android 4.2.2.
If anyone has other idea to get back at android 4.2.2, please let me know.
Thanks
Raoul
You can't downgrad to 4.2.2, because of the Bootloader, but you can flash 4.2.2 in CWM with zip ROM package, and use 4.3 modem correctly, or you can restore the ROM from your backup before 4.3.
but you can't use the 4.2.2 modem anymore. and if you want to use 4.2.2 modem, you must restore the efs which backuped before 4.3

Hey.
Try downloading Knox Disabler (Google it) it's an app which will disable knox.
Then try flashing the south Africa official firmware (make a backup of efs before!!) There was a thread regarding this. Apparently, its the only fw that allows downgrading.
However your boot loader still would show warranty bit 0x1.
I think 4.2.2 modems are available in this forum, so flash the one available for you country..
Edit - why do you want to go back to 4.2.2?

A few reasons:
1. Knox keeps showing those annoying alerts.
2. The batterytime is about a third from my batterytime at 4.2.2
3. I don't like the changes in the keyboard.
4. My camera does make the shutter sound again when taking a picture.
Thanks

1. You can disable Knox. Like I said, once you use the Knox Disabler App http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2482306 , you can disable it. You need to have root access though.
EDIT - I just read your post properly. Do you have root access? Did you update su's binary after gaining root access?
2. Battery with MJ9 (latest FW) is as good as 4.2.2
3. Download the google keyboard (or i'm pretty sure 4.2.2 samsung keyboard must be available as an apk.., look around)
4. idk yeah it does. I just realised it. Lol.
Just letting you know, lot of performance improvements in 4.3. Cam starts almost instantly as opposed to 4.2.2.. etc.
But if you still want to :
Disable KNox first!
Here is an excellent guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2491499
Bear in mind, should anything go wrong, flash official 4.3 FW
*****MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR 4.3 EFS NOW*****
Also, your warranty bit will stay 1.
Note that it's only possible to downgrade with an I9500 not with and I9505.
If you want to go back to 4.2.2 with an I9505 you need to flash a custom rom. That's the only way. But, I am not sure if that will work because of the new bootloader. Just try it, if it doesn't work, you can always go back to 4.3.
Hello,
How to flash 4.2.2 in CWM and keep the 4.3 modem?
Thanks!
Did you use ODIN? What Image did you use?
Normally the new 4.3 Bootloader does not allow downgrades and bricks the phone at around 2%
TIP: Using CF-AUTO-ROOT fixed my boot screen issue, by allowing me to clear the data and factory reset the phone. (Recovery Mode)

Hey Yash, perhaps you would know of another issue related to the 4.3 update - my wife just had her S4 updated with the Rom, and since then, the Wifi is getting really problematic. no matter which WiFi the phone connects to, it will prompt a "Sign in Required", and will open the browser for no good reason. after a couple of minutes, it will disconnect from the internet, as it will require to sign in (to nowhere). Any ideas? the Internet doesn´t have an answer as far as I know.

Hmm, that is strange. Wifi works just fine with 4.3 for me. Try doing a factory reset (go to recovery->wipe data/factory reset). Does mobile network and data work fine (coz that would exclude any problems with the modem). Or you can try choosing the correct firmware of 4.3 for your region from sammobile.com and flash it using odin. Or just take it to a Samsung service centre (flash the official firmware in case you're rooted before that) and they should help you out.

I have a question,
About My phone, Before installing Kitkat:
D802 İnternational (Turkey)
after installed Kitkat, a vodafone amblem started to appear every time the phone i turned the phone.
What does it mean?
Which stock firmware, i have to install?
Thanks
there is a link in the OP of that thread leading to 4.2.2 firmwares. Look it up, there is one for Turkish d802 too http://storagecow.eu/index.php?dir=Xda/LG+G2/Stock/Turkey/
Just check whether you have 16GB or 32GB version
Root for 4.4.2 is possible - if you flash the stock ROM as a zip file in custom recovery from 4.2.2 (which will be overwritten after the flash)
then you can directly flash the supersu zip:
1. boot into 4.2.2 custom ROM
2. install 4.4.2 zip and don't reboot
3. install supersu zip - don't reboot
4. wipe data, cache and dalvik-cache - then reboot
For zips you can use the forum-search function
There's also a custom boot-partition which enables to stay on the old custom recovery, but that's only made for B-Devices...

Hey guys,
I have been for hrs trying to find a way to update to Kit Kat to no avail.
I was on Kit Kat on my D800 but decided to try CloudyG3 rom to get a feel for the G3 interface etc.. but, I didn't like a few things and wanted to revert back to my stock Kit kat since I have a backup.
I was able to use the TOT method with LG Flash tool etc.. but the only stock firmware I was able to successfully install is D80010o. I have searched and found a thread explaining how to install Kit Kat, but the link to download the version is not working and the mirror takes you to the jelly bean ones.
I can't update it via the phone as an OTA update either. I need to get back to Kit kat so that the backup I made will accept the restore of my old settings.
How can I go back to stock kit kat, please help me find a way. I will greatly appreciate it.
thanks

LGD800AT-01-V10o-310-410-OCT-19-2013.zip
LGD800_20130904_LGFLASHv160.dll
... then used LGFlashTools v1.8 to flash the *.tot per the instructions in the second part of the OP in this thread:

that's exactly right.. although when they send you to the link to download the TOT file there are 2 tot files. One is the one you showed here and the other is V10d with a date of August. They do not specify which to install. I did it with the V10d. then trying to fix it with the V10o but the flash tool would not install it and gave me an fail load error. so I kept it at V10d. Now I am stuck with jelly bean apparently?

hey man.
I tried it and the LG mobile tool said that My device has the latest software available from LG Mobile support Tool. and a pop up window says "no upgrade items to fix"
Gotta tell you though that today I had a message on my phone saying I had an update available and when it booted to the android logo to start the process it said that my phone was rooted and that I can't get the update (because of that)
So I probably need a way to just unroot my phone and get back to completely stock as If I was starting from zero.. Is there a simple way to unroot?
Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663369
Edit: After 20c is flashed and says it is up to date, just contact AT&T and ask them to manually push the 20u update to your phone. That is what I had to do.

I flashed custom rom ( slim saber )..after that I went on and installed stock lollipop via lg flash tool.. I also selected CSE install and it booted without problems.. it doesnt say I`m rooted.. previously I also installed kit kat and it said I was rooted eventhough the phone was brand new.

Someone I helped earlier had the same issue. He reverted to stock using kdz method and his phones said rooted. He was still running stock ROM when he decided to use cse flash. After the flash was complete he booted up and to his amazement all of his files were still there and his root. So what I did was installed the tot and DLL file and restored using the tot method and surel after the flash he wasn't rooted and was on complete stock ROM. Try using the tot method and see if that works.
