I assume you didnt used the KDZ file? It doesnt matter if youre rooted or not you can still downgrade from the flash tool.

[Q] Problem creating a TWRP Custom Recovery with Odin

Hi everyone. I have followed the YouTube video by Chris Nacca (http://youtu.be/Ov6BXOu7SwA)that uses TWRP 2.5 custom recovery (file: openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.2-jfltexx.tar) on my unlocked GT-i9505 S4 using Odin 3.07. Unfortunately, despite the message from Odin indicates all worked fine (<ID:0/004> RES OK !!), on rebooting my phone back into Recovery mode, I am greeted with the Android character telling me there is an Error and then "dying" and saying "No Command".
The phone isn't bricked as I can move the highlight bar through the various menu options at the top left-hand side of the screen and reboot back via my stock ROM but clearly the Custom Recovery hasn't been installed correctly and, despite the Message screen in Odin showing <OSM> All threads completed. (success 1 / failed 0).
I have a rooted and unlocked GT-I9505 with a baseband reading as: I9505ZHUZME1. Anyone got any ideas or advice as to what may have gone wrong as if I can't sort this out I can't move to a custom ROM. :crying:
Many thanks in advance, Jim

Thanks for your reply. Being new to Android, am I correct in assuming that I merely download the last .tar file from the page you provided the link to and install it as I did the TWRP custom recovery file using Odin? Am I right in believing this will leave me with my Stock ROM but I can then do a Nandroid Backup and move to a custom ROM from there when I am ready?

Sorry small correction
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281367
use the above link which is PHILZ recovery
Edit : u have to have ur phone into download mode which u can go by
power off device unplug press volume down home power all together till u get download mode and connect to device
the file extension will be .tar use it on PDA at odin and flash it
then u can take a backup of the entire current firmware and keep it to safe place like PC Hard drive and move to ROMS

Thanks. One (hopefully) last question: The link you provided has both *.zip and *.tar.md5 files. I presume you mean I should use the latter, and do I need to remove the last portion (.md5) to make it a *.tar file or use it as is in Odin 3.07?

User .tar one philz_touch_5.06.6-i9505.tar.md5 since u dont have recovery
No need to remove md5
Odin 3.07 is fine use
below line is Just for info
Zip files are " flashable made" can be used if a one is already having recovery etc like how u flash a rom from recovery

Sorry, back again. I have done as you suggested (twice) and still can't get my phone to install a custom recovery. While Odin once again reports a successful install (as it did when installed the TWRP custom recovery), when I reboot back into custom recovery mode after installing PhilZ Touch custom recovery (as indicated by the blue text on the start-up screen), I no longer get the dying Android figure as I did when installed TWRP custom recovery, but the screen goes to a black, vibrates and then the phone reboots normally (which is a relief). So, needless to say - I am stumped. Can you or anyone else offer any suggestions?

Happy to try but could you point me to how I get back to stock firmware and then reset the device? I thought I was still using stock firmware (rooted I understand) so I think you must mean that I need to unroot my phone some how, reboot and then use the rooting process you just posted before install Philz recovery. Would you mind describing a little more - I know I have taken up a lot of your time but greatly apprecriate your help,

U can download the stock firmware from ur device I9505 will be abt 1.4 gb
once downloaded extract in a folder then flash using Odin pda - need to select .tar here again as u did b4 for recovery flashng etc
This will flash a Firmware and u will have stock phone unrooted
from there reset the device from ur phone which will remoce all the bad files etc and all the data also from ur Internal phone memory
after that as told Root and install recovery hope fully this will work without issues

Okay, got all that. I am surprised that you can flash stock firmware back on to your phone as I was under the impression you needed a custom recovery installed before you could add a custom ROM. Is that purely a "safety" precaution and I could bite the bullet and install a custom ROM now (should I be silly enough to try)? I do have may SYSTEM, APPS and USER data back up. Obviously I will loose everything on my phone doing this but can I expect that I can restore the APPs and USER data from my existing backup but not attempt to do this will the system files in fear of recreating the current problem?

Yes u can flash stock with Odin no need to install recovery for that..Custom recovery is needed mostly to flash custom Roms more or less u can say
and this method is 100% safe as long as u do properly
make sure u have 60% plus battery on the phone dont disconnect while its running / installing
and dont re install backup u have taken b4 with system files etc myte create plm
rather use titanium / mybackup pro app just to backup messages/ apps etc and save it else where or SD card for later use

Hi, I have done as suggested and flashed the stock ROM and performed a hard Reset. I didn't expect the flashing of the ROM would leave all my apps and screens as they were. Is that normal? I did confirm that the baseband number had changed, which is has. I then moved on to install the root as suggested and all seems to have worked well with the red Android figure appearing. Unfortunately SuperSU is complaining of not having the necessary binary files and Root Checker doesn't seem to be able to determine whether I have rooted phone or not as it just sits there complaining that my system seem slow. Any advice? Thanks.

Hi, yes I tried SU from play store - same issue. I also reset from the Backup and Reset option on the phone which did delete all the apps etc so to the best of my knowledge, I followed all the steps as described by you and on the various pages you gave me links to.
I have just tried SuperUser. It noted the binaries were old but when it attempted to update, said it "failed" to gain root access. Despite getting the confirmatory Red Android after the root process, I now wonder if it didn't go entirely as planned despite trying 2-3 times....?

[Q] HELP !!! MF3 Root Fail Bricked

I just followed this thread and successfully rooted my S4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387577
I think i deleted some core apps thru titanium backup and the phone could not display normally (keep Blinking)
then I tried to downloaded Goo Manager and installed TWRP Recovery on my S4. when I restart my phone can only boot to ODIN mode. I fixed this by using
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2360859
Now the phone can boot up but stuck at ATT logo Screen. Any body can help me?
PS. I try KIES emergency recovery and it keep telling me there is a error of updating.
I bricked my s4 (i337 Canadian, bell) the day I bought it, TWRP 2.6.0.0 was what bricked my phone (I think, or improper use of TWRP) and it wouldn't boot whatsoever (even my recovery was bricked), I managed to fix it by flashing stock firmware from ODIN 1.85 on PC to the phone (couldn't access recovery, so I flashed from PC) , make sure you download a stock firmware that is .tar to use with the PC version of ODIN, the second thing I had to do was flash CF Auto Root again using ODIN 1.85 from PC to phone, since I still couldn't boot my phone or recovery (other root flashing methods wouldn't unbrick my phone, but CF Auto Root did, download the MF3 version of CF auto root).
after all this crap I installed TWRP 2.5.0.0 as my recovery and haven't had any issues since :victory:
this was done on a I337MVLUAMG1 which I believe is the bell equivalent of the MF3 (update that blocked rooting by most methods like motochopper ect)
Thanks

Dont thinknthere is antthing you can do. We have no return to stock method at this point in time. This is why it is important to follow forum rules and read and search before doing something youll regret, im nkt saying this to be mean...but there has been at least 5 people these past few days who have done the exact same thing as you and have gone in here looking for help...
My best advice, throw in some money for the bootloader unlock bounty and hope somethung happens soomer than later

If you read through the threads it specifically stated that the MF3 boot loader is locked and you cannot install twrp or custom ROMS on it. I have seen so many posts regarding this it makes me sick. It's kies seeing the device? But is falling to recover? Or is it not seeing it?

Someone I helped earlier had the same issue. He reverted to stock using kdz method and his phones said rooted. He was still running stock ROM when he decided to use cse flash. After the flash was complete he booted up and to his amazement all of his files were still there and his root. So what I did was installed the tot and DLL file and restored using the tot method and surel after the flash he wasn't rooted and was on complete stock ROM. Try using the tot method and see if that works.

G2 D802 cannot stay in download mode, change in firmware update screen

With my g2 and a custom rom installed i wanted to do a clean install and go back to stock lollipop.
When i tried to use lg flash tool to install the kdz file it could find my phone but stop everytime at 2% and i noticed that when i used the download mode it would just show for few second and then change the screen in firmware update. So i found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development-d802/fix-lg-flash-tool-stuck-2-t3031112
This solved my problem using the twrp.
So i restarted the phone in download mode and this time it doesnt change, it stayed in the download mode screen, i installed the new lollipop rom and all good.
After that with my new stock rom i tried to root the phone with the one click root but when it automatically reboot to download mode to install the root it happened again the same problem, changed to firmware update screen and the root failed. Now i cannot use the same fix as before because i dont have the twrp installed. I cannot find a way to root my phone and i dont know if stumproot can work with lollipop. Hope someone help me to root this phone. Thanks. Sry for my english.
Finally with this guide i figure it out: http://www.xdathai.com/2015/09/how-to-solve-problem-from-stuck-on.html
It worked from the firware update screen.
First i tried the auto install of root and twrp and then i followed the guide.

Bricked note 4 with CF- Auto-Root, can i revive it?

Ok here's what i did wrong. Tried rooting my SM-N910H with CF-Auto-Root, using the wrong d/l ( CF-Auto-Root-tre3g-tre3gxx-smn910h )
My phone was 6.0.1 and i foolishly flashed this file onto it using Odin ( correct me if i'm wrong but it is an earlier version yes? )
So the upshot is my phone will no longer boot up or boot into recovery as i have the "recovery is not seandroid enforcing" error.
Have looked all over the net to find the solution, but no joy. Have tried d/ling latest stock firmware for my phone and flashing with Odin, but it fails everytime.
I think my biggest prob is trying to find THE RIGHT firmware to fix this. Am i on the right track to try and fix this? Any help would be much appreciated.

Instead of flashing any firmware , try to flash the correct cf auto root file.

Ok well i tried that and that didn't work. However after double checking its seems that i had the correct file in the first place. So what went wrong?
One thing i need to ask. Does your phone NEED to be unlocked in order to root it?
Trex i went to Sammobiles and what my problem is there is WHICH country firmware to i d/l??? there are so many!!! Should any one of them do the trick?

This is the current supersu 2.78-sr1. It's systemless root for all samsung marshmallow firmware.
http://download.chainfire.eu/1003/SuperSU/SR1-SuperSU-v2.78-SR1-20160915123031.zip
1 Download to phone.
2 Boot into recovery.
3 Click install, and find zip that you downloaded.
4. Reboot, All done
Phone will boot loop once. That is normal.
P.S. If this is first time you installed Twrp, I would make a full backup and save it some where.
:good: if that helped.

Well Aaron thats my problem, i can't download it to my phone. The one constant through all this is that i can't turn my phone on as such.
My pc doesn't even recognize it, in fact the only thing that does is Odin, not Kies, not ADB, nothing lol.
I can get the phone into the custom recovery i have flashed (TWRP) and get into "download" mode, but thats it. So where do we go from here?
Ok i have an update on this. PC now sees the phone but only as a modem.

Oh, I misunderstood.
If that's the case. If you can goto download mode, download stock firmware, then flash with Odin.
To get your csc, since you can go in twrp. Use twrp file explorer. copy the file in /efs/imei folder. Thinks it's called mps_code. Copy to ext sd. Now that file should have your csc region code written in it. Read file in pc. That should be firmware you want to download.
See if that helps.

Find the correct version of superSU from the above post..put it in a pen drive or in the memory card via card reader.
Flash it via OTG cable or put back the card n flash
ALRIGHT!!!! Ok guys just a heads up. As you can probably guess my phone is WORKING!!!....so far. Was able to do as you suggested and found the txt file, Using TWRP file browser ,that told me what ver firmware i have, inserted an sd card i had in my Tab S, copied file to that, read in my pc card reader, downloaded and installed said firmware and BADA BING BADA BOOM, all good!! I still am unsure on how this happened. I've rooted 3 HTC phones and my Galalxy Tab S successfully, so it's not like i didn't know what i was doing, 1 question that hasn't been answered though is, must the phone be network unlocked in order to root it? Because thats the one thing i didn't do that i did on the others. Want to thank all you guys for all your help. This was doing my head in and without your direction i probably would not have been able to do this.
Many Thanks.
PS: any one suggest a good rooting method for this phone??? lol
