/data randomly shows empty - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Has anyone had the /data & /cache directories show as blank? Only fixable by a reboot so far? I also notice during this time I am unable to update most apps from play store says insufficient space. Also titanium backup shows me not having root until i reboot.
Running CM 10.2.1.
Any thoughts?

I've also noticed multiple folders for a single app (Netflix just now) in the "/data/app-lib" directory, and I got the "insufficient storage available" error when trying to update Netflix via Google play.
Had to delete both folders for the update to work.
Anyone have this issue?

[Solved] install fail insufficient storage

Trying to download a 1 meg app. I have 91% storage free and package installer is telling me I don't have enough space. My phone is rooted but not running anything crazy. Just superuser and mybackup?
The app is Rdio. Weird is that this is the only app so far giving me trouble. I've installed this app before too...
Anyone else get this problem?
Update: I wiped my data and reinstalled everything via market rather than MyBackup Pro. Will be using Titanium Backup from now on.

Had the same issue trying to install NFS:Shift. Had to remove a bunch of other apps first before I could install it and then I had to reinstall everything. The issue won't be resolved until Froyo is available and we can put apps on our SD.
But there's 380 megs free... its a 1 meg app I don't need apps 2 sd

[Q] System Freespace 0kb Froyo DK28!

Hey guys. I have went from Di18 to Dk28 a few weeks back with ODIN and got my GPS working. I went to install ADFREE and it couldn't replace my hosts file. I got root explorer and noticed my SYSTEM a 258mb partition is full.
Now I see why it I cant replace my host-file..
When I go into my SD and memory app in settings it still says I have space available.. So it must me looking at a different partition.
Is anyone else having these issues? Is there a fix besides re-formatting everything? Any ideas welcome.. I really do not have that many apps installed.
Odin back to stock sounds like your partitions are mapped wrong.

Any apps you installed via the Market are stored in a different partition, so "reformatting" won't help.
The way to free up some space is to delete some junk from the /system/app folder, such as the Asphalt5_DEMO and FreeHDGameDemos APKs
I personally deleted any app which can be found on the Market, such as Amazon MP3, Facebook, Qik, etc.
It was repartitioned, just select the symlink option and it will work.
System/app is symlinked, deleting them and reinstalling from the market probably put them right back there...protected apps ftw.

No, it is not symlinked. /system/ is on a separate partition from /data. Any app you download from the Market is stored in /data/app or on the SD card, not in /system/app. This is why I mentioned deleting any apps which can be found on the Market from /system as you won't end up having two copies of the app and it frees up space on the system partition.

space not recovered after deleting nandroid backups

After deleting about 4gb of nandroid backups thru Rom Manager the freed space in not showing up in settings/storage. I tried a reboot and still no change. Anyone know why it's not showing the recovered space?
You could try and use an app like fileHog that will scan your phone for large files. Its possible the file you deleted is stuck in some temp trash folder or something to that affect.
thanks for the suggestion. I tried fileHog but it didn't find anything. It's strange; the graphic under settings/storage shows about about 8gb free but under available space it shows 2.5gb.

Yeah i was about to search for this earlier but i used sdmaid and found the location they were stored

How do I retrieve 8.3Gb of "Unknown Space" from Nexus 4 16gb... ?

Hi
I've got a problem that I've no doubt will be easily solvable by someone with a bit more knowledge of android file systems.
Background: I recently flashed 4.2.1 onto my 16gb Nexus 4 using adb and had a few (ongoing) problems (nandroid failed, app data missing from Titanium backup) which meant that I was transferring some large ZIPs back and for to my device via usb cable, trying to recover Safe Notes app data...
I subsequently found that I had very little storage free (1.5gb) despite only having a single nandroid and a few photos etc on my device. A picture of the phone memory using Memory Mapshows I have a massive wedge of "unknown space" (attached pic).
Browsing the file structure, I simply can't find a file/folder that could be taking up this much space... any ideas? :fingers-crossed:
ps. the app tells me that unknown space is "what remains when the algorithm subtracts the free space and the browsed space to the whole partition size".
The Diskusage app is calling this unusable block "System data"... any ideas how to get rid of it would be much appreciated :good:
Take a look at this thread, basically go into stock recovery, wipe cache and factory reset.

I'm exactly the same as you. A few apps, mainly games kick up this error, and short of a full wipe I have no idea how to fox it!
Happened on both my N4 and N10 and they both have loads of free space left over

Have you tried to fix permissions, clear cache and reboot?
I think the issue is that the way storage is carried out makes it seem like there isn't any extra because there are 3 or more folders that contain all of the data on the user partition of the flash storage. under mnt/ there is SDcard, but also you'll find emulated, 0, legacy and sometimes 0/0 or others. These should all be only virtual folders or links to other folders, but I think that's doing something. I ran into it a few days ago and after a permissions fix and cache clear and reboot I got it to start updating again. It's doing it again now though.
yep, I fixed permissions and cleared cache. It really might be as simple as something changing the permission for the Play store to write data, which would probably look like a full partition. Anyway it worked and I'm updating and downloading again.
If you are rooted, try deleting the .odex file for that specific app in data/app or system/app.
If your rooted you can also just launch lucky patcher. It delete unused odexes automatically.
