[Q] Nexus 7 (2013) Screen Issue question - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I seem to have an odd issue with my Nexus 7 (2013). The touch screen is perfect as long as I am holding the unit. The second I put it on a flat surface the screen becomes very unresponsive in certain areas. To make it more complicated if I plug it in I can type when its on a surface no problems.
Has anyone else encountered this?

Nexus 7 Defects (Software or Hardware)

Well as many of you posted you had flawless Nexus I pulled the trigger but for my horror I got a Lemon.
First I thought I had only the screen lift but after two weeks It have started to develop Screen Flicker and the slightest screen bleed in the right corner... a black pixel line when I open a hard task or its charging something.... the screen not responding and the ghosting :banghead: to my other horror I can't return it cause my father bought it to me and I'm in Mexico so no return but I wanted to know what are Software related and what are hardware related

So the Screen Separation is Hardware as the Screen Bleed
But the flicker, the sudden line that I just see like one a day and the ghosting that goes away with a reboot are all hardware?! The HTC titan had the ghosting too and with an update it went away

Well actually the screen flicker can be fixed by running a script. Look for the thread that says screen washout out fix. It will disable the nvidia smart dimmer. And the screen lift can be fixed' Google it . And not sure what the this "ghosting" is.

Well first I don't know if when going from homescreen to homescreen and seeing the icons going from side to side it looks like it leaves a trace behind that disappears after a couple of milliseconds and I don't know if its just an animation or ghosting.....and second is after being in my social homescreen the white parts stay onscreen in the background until I reboot but that only happened once and never again

IIRC you used the clamp and heat method to try and reactivate the glue. Best of luck, but that approach has been temporary for most users.
And you telling him to Google it would almost certainly lead to him fiddling with the screws, which is even less effective than the clamping.
Here is the only fix known to work. It's a delicate procedure and I wouldn't recommend it unless your lift is severe, GalaxyDev.
Sorry for your troubles, but hopefully you can see past these flaws and enjoy the tablet as is. I'm sure this device is a rare sight in Mexico.
The only reason why I considered that is because my screen lift is so minor, its like a hair lifted so my guess is the adhesive needs rebonding.

From what I've seen, others with similar problems have returned their Nexus 7 to the store they got it from and exchanged it for a working N7. I would recommend you do the same. If you got yours from the Play store, start an RMA. If you got it from a B&M store, exchange it.
Since you've only had your N7 a week, you shouldn't have any problems exchanging it.

It seems like it's an issue with the touchscreen itself. I have no idea how to verify or solve this issue, though. That's why I would personally exchange the N7 as defective. I would think that since your problem is clearly demonstrable, it would be easy to exchange or RMA.
But there may be a solution around that someone else has heard of. If anyone with greater knowledge of touchscreen issues wants to weigh in on this, please do.

I just started seeing this issue. At first it was only happening within apps. I thought it was issue with maybe stretching the app to a larger screen. But I started seeing it on the home screen.

There was a fix posted here somewhere for a package called surfaceflinger-fix.zip you flash in recovery. Made a huge difference on the touchscreen non responsive issue.

and when you turn off display and turn on again problem will fix
I have also experienced this. I I didn't try turning screen off then on but I rebooted then it was fine again.
I'm more inclined to think that this is a driver bug than a hardware fault

[Q] Screen flicker?

Anyone else have occasional screen flicker with their Nexus 7? Sometime I see a horizontal line flicker. It looks hardware-related to me.
Is it just me?
Thanks in advance...

Yeah, I get that occasionally too. Apparently changing your kernel can solve it

[Q] Strange issue with display

I have 2 Nexus 4 (one for sister and one for girlfriend), which were both purchased last week and arrived this week. Both their serial number starts with 301K.
Here is the weird part: for one of the phone, it is very easy to see under the glass. When there is adequate lighting and the display is off, it is very easy to the see the circuit-like component just under the glass. This is not true for the other phone. The display also has a more of a yellow tint than the normal one. Otherwise, the display looks and works fine.
Anyone else also experiencing this, or know what's the cause of this issue?
Thanks!
This is how the pattern looks like under the screen:

(sorry I can't post links yet)
It's because the touch screen sensor (I don't know the correct term) is closer. Basically it isn't an issue, it's a design. Nothing to worry about.

Nexus 7 Screen touching it self

Hi
I bought a nexus 7 4 months ago, but I'm having a strange problem! Sometimes, after some minutes of use, the screen starts touching itself...
The most strange thing is, if I restart the device, everything goes back to the normal
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Seriously though, maybe you need to RMA it if the touch screen is going bad
Try flashing a different kernel as that is what bridges hardware and software.
I had this same problem. I installed CM 10.1 and have not had that problem since.

Humm... But I have fear of flashing other ROM/Kernel because I will lose the warranty.
The strange thing is, if it's a screen defect why after a restart everything works perfectly? Or even after pressing the power button to make him sleep and then awake.

Just download something like the nexus 7 toolkit. You can find here on xda. With that you can flash back to stock and lock the boot loader and its as if you never voided the warranty. I've done it.

Hum, ok! Thanks.
You have flashed only the ROM or you flashed a kernel too?
sounds naughty!! "touching itself"
anyways, there might be water below the protective glass, is there anything like bubbles visible?

No.
the product MIGHT be faulty, a reboot cuts the power to the screen therefore stopping a potential short circuit that cause the activation of the touch sensors (the touch screen detects static electricity).
It normally isn't a hardware issue at all. What climate do you live in? Humidity and heat will cause ghost touches. Happens to me when I am outside on a humid day
