I am currently running a Google Play Edition ROM on my AT&T GS4. I am happy with it. However I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Gear watch that does not work with Google Play Edition. So I am looking for the Samsung KitKat stock ROM for AT&T, rooted and unlocked. There are plenty of custom ROMS that I could try, but I usually have a very strong preference for stock ROMs.
Can anybody point me in the right direction? I did see the post for SHOStock ROM. That comes pretty close. I was hoping to get something closer to stock than that ROM.
Thanks.

I have the Verizon GS4 and I understand there is also the VZ GS4 Original Android Development and Android Development. Can i flash these generic GS4 Roms and kernels on my VZ GS4 also?
I came from the HTC Rezound which was VZ exclusive so i don't know the intricacies of flashing ROMs between carriers.
TL;DR Will generic i9505 GS4 ROMs work on the VZ GS4? (safe?)

Hi,
I believe it is OK to flash ROMS on your phone,BUT make sure you only flash type specific modems.

There happens to be one or more threads covering this in some detail in the Verizon GS4 forum. It is not as simple as just flashing the rom and being good to go with no other effort. Also DO NOT flash an i9505 kernel on your phone.
Go to the Verizon forum and read what's been posted. If you don't, the best case scenario for you is that you'll be staring at your phone as it it refuses to boot into the os and tells you that unauthorized software has been detected and to bring it to a Verizon store. Worst case is that you brick it by flashing another device's kernel.

I have the AT&T GS4. I am considering downloading the 4.4 Google Play Edition ROM from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544474 and using the MK2 modem from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2496517. I am unsure about which loki'd kernel to use.
Anyway, is anyone running Android 4.4 Google Play Edition *successfully* ? I have heard several problem reports, but have not yet seen a report of flawless operation. If you are running one without any major issues, please let us know what combination of ROM, kernel and modem you are using. That should save the group members some time. Some of us want to give KitKat a shot without having to go through various combinations do that do not work well.
Thanks.

Flawless operation, but I don't have the MF3 build. I just flashed the whole version of 4.4 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43216973&postcount=1 and haven't had any issues at all, using stock kernel.
Thanks for the pointer to KangKat. I had earlier gotten the impression that it was not stock. But on second look, it looks pretty close to stock. I'll give this a shot.
do you have to be rooted to install this?
KangaKat is awesome

You should definitely try KangaKat. I was using KangaBean up until today. Works well. Don't know where you are in the world, but you may need to flash radio after upgrading to KitKat.

Hello!
I am in need of a bit of help, after searching through the forums I haven't been able to find a definite answer. I recently purchased a Google Play Edition of the Galaxy S4. What I know is that it isn't using a Samsung bootloader, but in fact a Google one you would find on say, the Nexus 4. This has led me to wonder if this means I can't flash Touchwiz based ROMs. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

You can, you will just need to flash a Touchwiz kernel.

Where would you find a Touchwiz kernel? Looking to put my GT-I9505 back onto Touchwiz. It is running a GPE rom just now.

Go check out the I9505's own development section for any threads marked Kernel.

Negative. Only touchwiz based roms will work with 4.3 MK2.
Your best bet is using an AOSP themed ROM such as blackbox or purified. You can find some more info here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616221
Or, more simply, install a new launcher such as apex or nova and then you won't have to worry about touchwiz
That's extremely disappointing. I'm really starting to hate this phone and I think I'm going to call att tomorrow and see if I can get something else. Perhaps an htc one or lg g2. But this isn't going to work out. This is not the level of customization I want. Touch wiz goes deeper than just the launcher, and what happens in another year or two when att stops providing updates? No, I'm done and I don't want this thing anymore. Bad ATT and bad Samsung.

I'm no expert, but anything other than MDB and MDL means a locked bootloader. AFAIK that means, all safestrap does is let you load a different rom, but that rom has to be based on the touchwiz kernel. That means no AOSP and that means no CM11. I'm in the same boat.
Hello,
Sorry to revive this after several months of inactivity, but I have exactly the same problem and am confused by the information I have found on XDA, possibly a fault of my own. I have a Galaxy S4 AT&T i337 with MK2 4.3, and I want to run CM11.
A much much more tech savvy friend of mine setup my phone in January 2013 with CM11 using the TWRP recovery. It originally was just the AT&T stock everything. Unfortunately, I no longer have contact with him, and I have no idea how he did any of this . I was specifically running the build from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2383143, which is now here: http://www.handy-faq.de/forum/galax...h_app2sd_glove_mode_dual_boot_for_all_s4.html
Since then it updated automatically to the last nightlies without any issues. Two days ago, however, I updated, and my phone went into a boot loop. I booted into recovery and tried to flash the last version that worked, but that resulted in my phone staying in a boot loop without being able to boot into recovery. I then used Odin to flash the original firmware and stock ROM, and now it works fine, but I miss CM11 very badly (or more accurately I find the stock ROM annoying in comparison).
The previous posts here indicate that CM11 cannot be installed on the i337 MK2. Also, this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42320414&postcount=2 lead me to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428254 which says "Also, at this time, only TW based ROMs will work with SS. CM, AOSP, AOKP, MIUI, etc will not work." But I do not actually understand the difference between Safestrap and TWRP enough to know whether or not Safestrap not allowing CM11 means this model won't allow CM11 at all.
I would like to understand why there is indication that CM11 cannot be put on the i337 MK2 when my friend somehow succeeded. Then perhaps we can succeed in devising a method to install CM11 on this model. I apologize for not having any proof that it worked, but I swear I ran CM11 on this exact model and firmware build for many months very happily.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this discrepancy? Sorry if this is a naive/stupid post. Thanks in advance to anyone who chimes in.
I feel like I've spent two whole days downloading and flashing stuff on my phone, and to no avail, nothing has worked. In your opinion, what's the best way to get _________ ROM on your AT&T Galaxy S4? I'm currently downgrading from NB1 to MK2 because I thought it'd be easier, but I thought I should ask everyone else first. I'd honestly just like to get Cyanogen Mod on my phone and call it a day, so what would be the easiest way to go about it?
Edit: I can root my phone just fine, but I'm basically asking for what version my phone should have as well as the easiest procedure to get me a custom ROM on my phone.
Currently there is no way to install AOSP/AOKP ROMs. The ROMs that can be installed are listed in the all things att thread
