Hello!
I am in need of a bit of help, after searching through the forums I haven't been able to find a definite answer. I recently purchased a Google Play Edition of the Galaxy S4. What I know is that it isn't using a Samsung bootloader, but in fact a Google one you would find on say, the Nexus 4. This has led me to wonder if this means I can't flash Touchwiz based ROMs. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

You can, you will just need to flash a Touchwiz kernel.

Where would you find a Touchwiz kernel? Looking to put my GT-I9505 back onto Touchwiz. It is running a GPE rom just now.

Go check out the I9505's own development section for any threads marked Kernel.

Hi
I'm searching for a stock ROM 4.3 google edition for my Samsung Galaxy S4. If there is a way without root, I'd prefer that one.
The most important thing for me is the possibility to get OTA updates directly from Samsung/Google. So I'd like to turn my stock S4 into a stock Google edition S4. Is there a way?
I already searched for this in various Sub-Forums on this site, but there are so many ROMs and I don't know which is the right one for me?
Thx

With or without root, you can't get official updates if you're on google edition 4.3.

Thank you for the links. The ROM of the first link you posted I'm using for about 2 months, but unfortunatly it does not seem to support ota updates, since I'm still on built number JWR66.S005.130625 and there are newer builts on the internet.
Also the rest of your posted ROMs don't seem to get ota updates directly. The only way to get updates seems to be by installing them manually.
Maybe there is no way (atm) to turn a S4 into a pure stock Google Edition S4.

That's what I ment.
Is there a way to get an "incremental" update for my built number to a more actual version? I don't like it to completly restet the device just for an update...
All the 4.3 GE roms are custom ones and you won't get any OTA. This may change but that's it for now I'm afraid.

Currently there are only three full featured custom roms which are fully compatible with safestrap.
My favorite one is the "darthstalker v9" custom rom.
However if you are looking for a compatible Google Edition rom you will find a couple of them
as well in the link above. You will see the links to all compatible roms in the the very first post.
Good luck!
Remember it takes less time to click the "THANKS" button than it takes to type "thank you"
Greeting guys,
I'm running a google edition untouched 4.3 rom. Recently I received a notification for 4.4 update but I can't install it.
Is there a way to install it and enjoy the experience of 4.4 as if my phone was a google edition phone?
thanks

would it be possible if you flash the same recovery of the google edition device and unroot your phone?
In other words, is it possible to convert the phone to google edition to receive the update normally?

Many thanks
I just want it to try the stock rom so badly
The guys are hard at work on it in the development section, don't worry!
The ge rom is lovely and I think the wait is well worth it. If it's like the untouched 4.3 ge rom I've been using it will be better than the stock one! Patience is not a virtue of mine to be honest but in this case, on xda, it's a pleasure to wait for such talented and oft under appreciated devs.

I am currently running a Google Play Edition ROM on my AT&T GS4. I am happy with it. However I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Gear watch that does not work with Google Play Edition. So I am looking for the Samsung KitKat stock ROM for AT&T, rooted and unlocked. There are plenty of custom ROMS that I could try, but I usually have a very strong preference for stock ROMs.
Can anybody point me in the right direction? I did see the post for SHOStock ROM. That comes pretty close. I was hoping to get something closer to stock than that ROM.
Thanks.

So I just ordered my new to me S4 off ebay, and I will be loading it with a rom once I get it.
I had been running a S2 with Recaluked. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2285290
I am looking for suggestions on a similar rom with great battery life, TW based, custom toggles, and lots of general customization options.
Does anyone have a suggestion on which roms to start with?
Thanks.

You won't really find anything similar to the recaulked rom on the s2, as the s4 is way more of a power horse. What you will find is 2 excellent roms Negalite and Sacs for Touchwiz. I personally use both and alternately I will flash Hyperdrive HD in the Verizon forum, of course adding Sprints APN to get LTE.

How many S4 variants are cross compatible on the roms?

I've only tried Hyperdrive and echo rom from Verizon but I've heard a few at&t roms work also.
Also coming from the s2 to the s4 you no longer require a recovery/kernel together as they are different now. You can still flash a custom kernel and custom recovery but they are no longer built together like on the s2.

That is very interesting for a noob such as myself. How do you add the APN? Are you doing a manual edit in settings or is there a means of flashing it?

I manually enter them. There is apps on the Play store to help but I've never b used them. I just go to Settings>More Networks> Mobile Network> Access Point Names and you can add a new APN there
Perfect! Thanks Elwood.
