I am currently running Froyo on my Desire, but one thing i REALLY miss is the HTC Camera, as it is far superior to the stock Camera app.
Does anyone know a good alternative? or preferably an APK that will let me install the HTC camera?
Totally agree with the Sense camera being far superior to the stock one.
Would love to see if anyone could port it.

Wow 191 views and no one can recommend an alternative camera app? that kinda sucks,
camera 360 seems nice enough
Vignette?
best cam app i found so far, loads of fun playing with filters and fx
There is one called Camera ZX I think, check that out.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
there is FX camera and retro camera both are free and quite nice
From those I've tried on my own device and that of my friends, Camera Pro, Camera Zoom FX, FX Camera and Vignette are the better apps. They all have differences though, and limitations. They take the same pic slightly differently, sometimes very differently. The most sharpness, visual acuity and the least noise in taken images I've found with the stock HTC camera app, but the best colour reproduction, white balance and contrast I found with Camera Pro. In daylight and at night, these aspects looked almost indistinguishable from what my eyes were seeing of the objects. The best overall app was Camera Pro for me, but, it didn't have the high quality shot settings which others did, and that made a big difference for me. Enough to not use it.

Hi,
I am considering the Arc to be my next phone but I would like to know about its video capabilities. In nearly all HTC phones, when recording in low light conditions/at night, the camera tries to compensate the lack of light and this tends to make the video lose frames and to be really choppy. Does the Arc perform better and does it skips frames in bad lighting conditions?
Thanks!!
Videos are great on the Arc, I'd say better than on HTC.
Didn't test it on my Arc yet but in youtube are smooth videos from the Arc.

Most of HTC phones have really ****ty cameras, actually the worse on the market.
Don't even wonder. Arc is another planet.
best cam of HTC is at Sensation, and is one of the best on the market now... i think
HTC Sensation is a class lower compared to Xperia Arc - not only with regard to the camera.
Dualcore is not everything.

Even mobile-review proves different.
GSMArena has a comparison of the LG Optimus 2X, HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S2 which also features various other handsets at different junctures.
When comparing still image and video capture, they also throw in the Arc for good measure.
Draw your own conclusions.
If u own 1 HTC, then you own all off em because they all look the same. That's why I bought the ARC.
I agree, HTC phones are one class lower than SonyEricsson in terms of build quality, design and phone technology.
By just comparing the phone battery technology, all their phones are still using Lithium Ion Battery while SonyEricsson's phone are using Lithium Polymer and everyone should know that there are more benefits for Lithium Polymer over Lithium Ion Batteries.
Hey thanks for all your replies. I think I'll have to try one at the shop to get a better idea on the device itself before deciding. Still, the camera seems to be the only thing that appeals to me - the screen is a bit small (I've own 4.3 hd2/desire hd and now a 5 inch dell streak). Will definitely have to play with it - still the Arc seems to be a very sexy phone!
Thanks all!
Some of these replies look quite fanboyish.. there's a reason HTC sells so many phones..more than SE atleast
Anyway, add me to the SE fanboy list Until I get bored of Timescape I will stick to SE
There are 2 simple reasons why htc have and still do sell more phones than SE....
1. They've been in the android business since the start..
2. Until now SE's android phones have been relatively poor, and therefore SE had a bad rep.

I have a last question : If the zoom function is used while recording a video, does the camera automatically auto-focuses the video to make it clearer/sharper, or is the video blurry when zoom is used like in every phone model? Thanks!!

I've currently got an Xperia Arc and a HTC Desire S. The camera on the Arc is superior to that on the HTC as is video recording. I've actually been a bit shocked by how poor the HTC Desire S camera is for pictures although a friend with the new Sensation says that it has a great camera, he does however qualify that by going on to say it is great "for a HTC camera" which to me, says it all.

Hi,
I have the HTC Desire Z and I would like to get a 2nd phone.
There are only 2 options for me: The Arc or the Desire S. I think both HTC and SE are top manufactures in terms of design and build quality, the rest are just iS**t clones
I like the Desire S because of the uni-body aluminum design, but I think The Arc is nicer. I am a little bit concerned about the quality of the plastic on the Arc's back, an also i don't like the size ( 3,7 seams ideal for me).
I don't care about the camera, but I'm sure SE's is much better.
So I just want to show you filming with my Galaxy S II (my iPod Touch) is awesome.
It focus perfect and I chose to use the torch.

If you are rooted, check Potatoman's awesome work on the camera : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1104051
I personally use hyperX-'s version of SuperHighBit camera (1080p @ 30MBit ), and it just tops my Sony FHD camera now!
Also, the sound quality is way better with this mod!
Camera with GOOD light is really well. But if there is small light camera SUCKS. Better has Iphone 4S (in dark conditions).
As mentioned above in good light this camera excels in the video department I've had some excellent videos shot in nice bright conditions, in low light conditions you notice the difference as with most cameras.
But as a mobile device it's very good in bright light and the hacked versions are awesome as audio improves compared to stock.

I confirm the complete opposite. The quality is WAY better, namely in night settings. I've been filming Madrid in my trip, at night, and there was nearly no lag, and it was crisp all the time. I recorded at 720p @ 24MBit due to space issues (1080p @ 30MBit eats a LOT of memory).

That's not the problem. 28fps is plenty enough for smooth motion. The video recording just sucks in general on HTC phones. Even the official "two girls walking into sunlight and then turning back to smile" video is jerky and not completely smooth. HTC is claiming they have OIS, but I don't see any evidence of it at all. In fact, disregarding jerkiness, the video just really really sucks. The colors are completely off and overly red and gaudy. The motion of objects in the video have a nauseatingly awkward movement to them. The details and colors are all smeared looking and cartoonified. It doesn't look natural or real at all. All these issues are evident in the HTC One X, Sensation, Desire HD, etc. They are not unique to the HTC One. I've been *****ing about how terrible HTC's video recording is for years now, and even now in 2013 it's still the same old crap.
Guys it could be that its the demo unit..The retail unit might have everything fixed..Lets wait and watch.

I think its a problem of build because i had a Desire HD and when I installed the rom from sabsa prime, the latest, the câmera is working without loosing fps and on Endeavoru I just changed the build.prop configuration and the issue minimized. I'll be waiting the custom rom to see this fix.

Those vids could be early software design.
On my epic 4g touch I get crappy video with AOSP and great video with the stock rom. My AOSP vids look like these vids being posted which is simply due to un-optimized codecs for the processor.
I'm sure this wont be the case with the final builds.
HTC is claiming that the UltraPixel camera on the HTC One will be able to capture 300 percent more light than competitors. You can shoot 1080p HD videos, HDR videos and there's a single LED flash for even better low-light shooting.
^ Is it comparable to sony xperia z 13mp cam ?

The Speria pics look worse than my E4GT.
I've been in the camera bix for years and one thing is for sure, if you pack more dots into a smaller area the dots are then smaller. Less surface area means less light hits it and therefor less color spectrum capture and less light band capture. The reason SLR cameras can hit the higher pixels is due to the CCD size. The CCD is WAY bigger in the SLR than any cell phone so it can capture more color spectrum and more light bands.
I for one think that the camera in the HTC One will really stun people when they actually use it next to their old phone.
I have the same problem
I hope HTC focuses on an update. It took forever to get anything when I have the evo 4g
Every video or picture I've seen from the HTC One (especially the videos) have looked average to flat out bad.. Really hope this is just due to insufficient software optimization and will be corrected before release as right now it's not looking too good.

I've heard this liine a I've heard this line a million times, for dozens of phones I've followed through the years. Either from delusional people, from fanboys, or just simply ignorant people who don't follow this stuff closely. Images taken from the demo unit that's trotted out to the press when it is announced will not magically grow wings and transform into something else on the final product, especially when there's only a few weeks til launch. Even going from alpha stages, with the final camera hardware is decided, the difference is marginal. You really think they have to start from the ground up building software for the camera for every single new smartphone? Like a puppy who is blind at birth and it's eyes open after a few weeks? It is not only ridiculous, but it has never been true. SGS2, SGS3, Nokia Lumia 920, Pureview 808, HTC One X, Xperia Z, and every other smartphone ever, even going back to Sony and Nokia candybar phones with buttons.

After 40 sec after the intro in the first video, the sound quality gets better.

Well actually the video isn't *that* bad, especially the parts where that crap blue light isn't the primary light that's shining. Audio quality of course was very good.
I think the recording turned out quite good, I've seen live shows with more professional cameras that did a worst job so the device you used really wasn't all that bad at all, for a mobile device.
:good:
Yeah, the lights were flashing like crazy, I think if I would've been closer it might have turned out great. But nonetheless the sound is awesome.

The plastic will definitely affect quality, how much can vary. It is mass produced plastic with a very high tolerance for variances. It will be thicker in areas & thinner on others, on the order of microns probably, but could be enough to cause distortion. Hard to tell in the lighting how or if it was affected. As other mentioned, the audio is great.

Well lets take a simple real situation. I very often take video of my son, who does karate sport. Taking steady video of my son with M7 preserving stable image on any distance while he accomplishes performance is very easy. Even on big screen pictures looks very stable. Shooting video under mentioned conditions with non OIS camera is headache. Even watching video on 12" screen size looks disgusting. It is very shaky. Having watched many video samples from M8, I'm really disappointed, this feature being dismissed.
