[Q] Promocode as a way to promote apps - General Marketing & SEO

Hi all, what do you think about promocodes as a way to promote your apps? Do you think it is a good way? Do you think promocodes should be given using a specific strategy, ie promocodes giveaway only if you review my apps?
Can you suggest me if there is a specific kind of apps that would benefit more from promocode strategy?
I'm planning to release a game app and thought it could be a good way to promote it via promocodes but would like to know other's opinions and suggestions.

[COLAB] Collaboration among developers to advertising APPs

Hi all,
it takes a long time to develop an app and it takes even more to achieve that your app is known.
My app (so far) Voice Message has ads from admob to help me to get some money from the users.
I don't know if this is already said, but I think we can collaborate with Admob auto-ads. For example, I can put ads in Admob of another app as if it were mine and the other developer could do the same.
If you think this is a good idea to promote our apps, I will put ads in Admob to promote your apps, and you will do the same for mine.
We can put in Admob until 50% ads from auto-ads and collaborate among us.
What do you think?
Hi pacosal,
I do really like your idea! You can develop the best apps but if nobody knows them them they're useless.
In the end that's bad for the users and the developers!
I do have two apps in the Market with one of those as a paid app. I would really like to have more advertisement, because personally I think it is the best one available. If we can find more developers who are willing to collaborate we could get a large user base and increase popularity and therefore sales.
I'm willing to put my free app (~60000 downloads and ~30000 active users) into the pot.
Who's next?!
// edit: wow that was my first post, really?! Almost one year after registering...
ok, perfect!
We can wait for more developers or we can start right now and when others developers want to join us, they have to write in this thread.
My app is Voice Message, you can put this kind of ads.
Try the free Voice Message App with url to: market://details?id=com.pacosal.voicemessage
What is your APP?
Tell me and I will promote yours.
Anyone more?
Anyone else?
Hey,
sorry for the long delay.
Currently I don't have ads in my free app (called 'Stats') and I don't want to update it just to add ads into it. It will take some time for me to put a little work into it.
We should collect more developers to build some kind of community. What do you think about a small website?
Sebastian
It could be a good idea, but at first we need more developers interested in.
Waiting for more developers...
I will post into a German developer board, let's see how it works...

[Q] traffic Sources

Hello everyone, at first, sorry for my english. But please try to understand me
I'm newbie in app promotion and have some questions. My task is attract players in our games. We develope good games for android and ios. The publishers attract main part of our players in different countries. We share our revenue with publisher. It is main source of traffic.
But now we want self publish our games. And I would like ask you, were a can get good game traffic?
at now I consider this sources (But all these variants are too expensive):
1. Google adwords (and Bing ads, admob). For every jump of about $ 0.05 (In the best case, each install will cost 0.5$)
2. Buying ads in android launchers. It cost 0,5$ per install
3. ads in push messages
4. tapjoy, applifier
Can you comment on each of them?
Please advise me more traffic sources. Maybe you know some local traffic sources, some new and interesting systems?
And advise me useful websites were I can improve knowledge in the field of promotion of mobile games. Perhaps some blogs or forums.
thanks to all

Your great app is not selling. Sounds familiar?

Hi guys,
Making an app successful requires two distinct skill sets including:
1. product development: UI/UX, Graphics, clean code and all that stuff
2. marketing: Tricky business. How do you monteize? Work with Carriers? Pre-load your app? Promote it through blogs? Get good reviews? Create a hype in social media? Paid vs. Free? What kind of in-app purchases? Which ad network and what marketing partners to use etc. etc.?
I have seen many apps on app store that have the ability to be sell like hot cakes but they get dumped under the piles of bad apps which are being marketed properly.
If you guys think that you have an app that have the nice concept, good design and ability to be successful, but it is lacking marketing muscle, please send me a message. I will analyze your app and provide you free advise on what is it lacking. If I find that I can help you making it successful, I will let you know and we can discuss these details more once the key issues are identified.
Regards,
Omer

This is a big pain point for app developers everywhere, both during UI and feature design as well as marketing the app. A solution would be to A/B your app features, both for development and for marketing your features. Mobile A/B solutions tend to be cumbersome and code-intensive. But, WYSIWYG tools are also making their appearance (Appiterate, Useartisan)

Reasons Why Your App is not showing Conversion
A/B testing is a powerful tool which can be used to exponentially increase your conversions and and thus revenue. However there are certain mistakes one can often make while doing an A/B test. Read more here http://appiterate.com/top-6-mobile-app-ab-testing-mistakes-and-how-to-avoid-them/

I think you forgot App store optimization. It is best to increase app download as people mostly search app on app stores.

You are right, but
i observe that in search list google shows the result in below way.
1. first shows the app for which they have got advertisement money,
2. then the app those revenues are high as 30% goes to google.
3. then the most downloaded- reviewd, rate apps
4. then there algorithem goes for rest all...
Again this is my observation and i have not considered google algoritham at all on this.
Hi Omar,
I hope I`m not too late and this post is still active I try to promote my app, it is Astrology & Horoscopes, Feng Shui... Offline Advertising

Hello people!
We have an idea to make some kind of offline advertising.
Well known fact is that there are some users which play games offline. And thus advertising monetization brakes.
We offer simple idea. Any app can advertise something offline by showing some pre-built banner.
No monetization could be applied such way, but user's offline gaming provided with advertising in this case.
Thats makes ineffective to turn off the internet connection for those players which want to ignore advertising.
The main idea is that user has no difference between online and offline gaming with such advertising model.
(Of course while online and non-blocked advertising, application would use common advertising model)
In such solution we need some Pre-built banners.
We offer for those developers which interested join this thread and get us any feedback.
p.s.
Offline banners could advertise anything, we believe that advertising other developer apps, games is better than ourselves.
And it would be great to interchange banners with other developers which joined this initiative.

I also though about something like this. The problem with this approach is not showing the ads, but acting on them.
Usually, if the user clicks on a banner, they will be taken to some other page where the can buy/install the product. How would this work if the user were offline?
So, this method would be limited to brand awareness campaigns, or very simple things you can see offline and remember to check later when online.
How do you solve the following problems for offline advertising:
1. measure the effect
2. scale

Doesn't it already exist? I think that many offline games show ads from other apps. I mean, it's a good idea, of course, but I've already seen this.

Public opinion on use of ads and app discovery of Android apps - What would you ask?

Hello everyone,
I created last night a quick survey to gather the opinion of users on usage of ads through mobile apps and how they discover apps to download.
Since recently, support was added to the tool to ask people in order to enter their opinion and I was curious and excited also to ask such questions and see what will be the responses.
This was just a small sample/experiment to see if users will share their opinion and also get an idea on the potential in order to structure something bigger with involvement also of other fellow android developer that share common concerns.
Some of the questions were:
- During what stage of the app experience do you prefer to be shown an ad?
My top answer: When opening or closing, not during.
- How do you usually find the apps that you download?
My top answer: Friends or I just search the Google app store
- Do you think a developer deserves to get money from ads for time spent to create an app? If not please specify why.
My top answer is this: Yes i think that a developer deserves to get money from ads they work hard to make apps and the deserve money from those apps whitch they make
- If you had to see an ad, what type of ad you would prefer to see?
My top answer: Anything that applies to my interests!
Results are quite interesting: https://www.pollfish.com/dashboard/results/7764/1660833277
So what I would like to suggest? Since most of the people here are android developers like me, what would you think if we can create a list of top questions we would like to ask users directly and get some insights. I can launch this survey to thousands of mobile users and we can gather real insights here for the community.
Please comment below with a question you would like to see in such a survey if you would like to contribute
