Alright well randomly when i would go to the photo album i could scroll through a few photos, then "We're Sorry..." A problem has occured with Manila.exe
I did some research and people that tried formating their SD Card, got it to work again. Well since it worked for them i decided to try it...not knowing its just going to delete everything from my SD Card...So I deleted everything from my SD Card.. now what? I take it i should do a factory reset? Will that put all the default stuff back on the SD Card, like Transformers 1 & 2?
At the moment i writing all my contacts down...but can someone please help me figure this out? I just wanna go to bed cause i got work in the morning..
The HTC HD2 is such a hassle, theres always something wrong with it.
The movies are gone. Sorry. Do a backup or copy sdcard contents to your desktop next time.
Nope. You should always back up your content that is on your SD card before you format. Its gone for good.
Well **** my lifeee. Ok would T-Mobile be able to fix this? Cause this is just getting too confusing. I hate this phonneee...also my phone isnt reading my SD Card.

Do you have it connected to the PC in "disk drive" mode? If so, your phone won't see your SD card while it's connected that way, only while it's connected via activesync.
Hmm, well yes it was lol. Is there a site or some source i can just download the default SD Card files from?

Not the movies. The games etc can be found in the sticky at the top of this section titled "Links to cabs, ROMS, how to's, & Jaime's "New to WinMo & Absolute newbie tweak guide"...in there are links with all the other stock apps from the HD2 (and a bunch of other stuff you should probably check out).
You might be able to go to a T-Mo store and see if they will swap out your sdcard with one from a return unit.
Don't give up on your hd2, it is a great phone. Everyday I find something new about my phone that makes me happy I went with it. WinMo is complicated, but once you get it set up, it runs really well.
Well im kinda stuck with this phone for 2 years. Not much I can do. So far it pisses me off alot, like when i receive a text, my phone freezes for about like 15 seconds while it loads to my phone. That and the fact its slow and it just fails as an OS.

You really need to read that new-to-winmo guide in the thread I mentioned above. In fact, here's the direct link for you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=688928
Then go back and read everything else in that thread I pointed you to...with a little care, WM can be a wonderful OS...I wouldn't trade it for any other, personally. There's solutions for every one of the issues you've mentioned, if you'll just take the time to read and learn here at xda.
I believe there is s fix for the text lag, but I don't know where it is. I must be lucky because I don't have the text or music tab lags. I have around 500 texts with about 350 from one person and I get very little lag loading messages and I have 8 plus gb of music and the sense music player works great.
Try Cookies Home Tab or maybe one of the custom roms.
Okay well I still cant view my photos without "Manila.exe" to crash. Should I just restore my phone, or is there a fix.

Yes if it's still doing that after the card reformat, a hard-reset might be the best shot at clearing it up. Are these pics you've taken with the camera, or ones you copied to your SD card? If it's the latter, how many pics do you have on there?
Also, just fyi, you don't have to write your contacts down to save them...if you just run the myphone app that's already on your phone, it will back them up along with your text messages, and allow you to restore them to the phone after a hard-reset or a ROM flash.
Well i saved a bunch of pictures i got off google on too my phone, and thats when it started having the error. Um where is the myphone app located?
You can copy all your contacts to your sim card instead of writing them down...just saying to save you some time.

or use mobile back up.
But make sure your MicroSD isn't corrupt. Try a different MicroSD and see if it works. It might be the card reader in the phone.
Might be able to get a warranty replacement if that is the case.
Im just going to use Microsoft My Phone its easier, and i dont have to click one by one just to add contacts to my sim card. Um im sure my SD card is fine, it just has nothing on it lol. Im going to run the the T-Mobile store tomorrow and see if then can exchange the SD card for one with all the default stuff on it.
Alright well i backed up everything i needed on Microsoft My Phone. Now im just going to do the hard reset.

Once you've done that, just run the myphone app again...it will have you sign in, then it will update the app, and then it will download the contacts and messages etc back down to your phone.
I got quite a few things and am not sure of whether to post all in one thread or not but I dont want to clutter the board so here they are.
1. How to actually get the sd card working right on KK, I tried the app but it already said it was ok, yet i load stuff from my computer to my card and it disappears the second my computer is disconnected from the phone. Oh and the camera app FC every time i choose sd card storage then pictures get corrupted and I cant move my current taken pictures to the SD card via the included file manager app like I did on JB
2. How to get rid of the samsung notification widgets and get the stock KK icons there or have a way to hide them then slide through KK and Samsung.
3. How do I disable the camera shutter, I had a major problem at a piano concert at a high school where my shutter tone went off. I got dirty looks from some moms.
4. How can I fix this damn auto brightness bug.
5. Is it possible to change the damn magazine app to something else like google now?
I am on the NC2 leak, rooted, safe strap, with the NC4 modem and recovery.
Well thanks for reading, please help, this is my first samsung device really and I am so used to the new moto blur thats near stock along with the old way of one click root, bootloader unlock (razr hd) and if needed using the bat file utilities to restore from a botched flash. I got to say samsung life is different but I like the better internals and the huge screen.

1. i solved it by moving stuff to computer , formatting card with phone, moving files back
2. you lost me a little on what exactly you are asking but Xposed generally handles all of that stuff
3. see answer to #2
4. Lux Auto Brightness
5. some roms like Hyperdrive have this built in or you can try any of the S5 launchers that have built in app called PullUp to replace it. so basically whatever the launcher apk has built into it so find one you like. here are some but other sin other Note forums sections like Sprint or universal

I got exposed on and so far i love it with the samsung specific mod, I did what you said and found out my card, a sandisk ultra 64gb UHS 1 class 10 card will not accept any formatting, even the fat 32 it is at right now. So I'm going to be reverting to a sandisk 32gb card and looking for a samsung card or other brand, any recommendations? I am going to slowly leave sandisk entirely after this crap
Hello all.....I am trying to recover deleted text messages, pic/vid messages on my stock Samsung Galaxy S5, G-900A, running android 5.0 (lollipop). I have tried to utilize a few different android data recovery systems but all have failed in locating any of the deleted messages---likely because root access is required? I have looked everywhere and am under the impression that this particular phone still cannot be rooted due to the AT&T locked boot loader. I also understand that these types of deleted msg files can be overwritten with extend use after initial deletion, however, I am only concerned with messages to and from one particular person, and there hasn't been much use on the phone since they were deleted anyway. This was one of my company phones used by an employee and it is important that I recover these messages. In my conversations with the AT&T Legal Department I was informed that even with court ordered subpoena they do not have the actual messages to provide because they are "deleted from their servers within a few days", but they were able to provide me with the actual data/message/call logs---which doesn't really help me with the issue. I know that there has to be some way or method to locate and recover these messages-----PLEASE HELP------Thank you in advance.
Additionally, I would like to add that I am not at all concerned with any future functionability of this phone, not sure if that even matters---just thought maybe if there are any important apps/programs/functions were modified or deleted to gain access to these messages I am absolutely willing.
Also, is there any way to copy or save the phones hard drive to my computer and access these messages/files through another function on my laptop????
It's unlikely you can recover them, one thing you can try is imaging the phone as you mentioned though, I only know how you could do it in linux though so I'm not sure how much use that will be to you.

Thank you very much.....Im not exactly sure what protocol is on this but I'm wondering if I could hire you or anyone else who might be interested to scan and locate these messages for me? I see that you live in houston, as do I; if it is possible to find these messages thru linux I certainly couldn't do it as I have no experience with that program/software.

Seems you might have less luck than I thought :/ this is what I could find about finding the messages https://cmanios.wordpress.com/2013/10/29/read-sms-directly-from-sqlite-database-in-android/ to get deleted ones though you'd have to recover the old db, which would be hard to do in and of itself with flash memory, and you'd be lucky to get anything out of what would likely be a partial database file, and that would be hard to read. On top of that, to get an image of anything, even unrooted user readable partitions(internal sd card) you need root, because the command can only be run from the phone it seems, since the phone is presently on 5.0 it's not possible to root it, so your chances are slim to none since no data recovery tool app on the phone would go to the location of the message db file, even if it did it would need root, and even then, to image the phone as far as I can tell also requires root. The only thing I can think of is removing the internal sd card, the ifixit teardown covers this kind of, the card isn't a standard microsd, so finding a way to mount it would be trivial(possibly re-soldering it to a usb?) , if you managed that though, then you might have a chance at attempting data recovery which as I mentioned earlier is already going to be 50/50. As for someone who you could pay for help with this, I can't think of any place, and I also would be of no help unfortunately, there may be someone on the forums or around town who will do it on their own behalf, as with before though I don't know anyone who could help with it though. All this said, it's all speculation for the most part, so I would wait for a second opinion by someone else before taking any action.

I sure do appreciate all of your help and consideration......i sure wish there was some other/easier way to accomplish this...however, i have been able to put the micro-sd card into a larger converter card thing and view on my macbook pro---although there are many many empty folders when i try to access them. Is there a particular file reader that i could download on laptop that would show any invisible files and allow me to view them? Sorry for the amateur questions....thanks again for your help.

The microsd card from the phone does not have any text messages as far as I know, won't help to look at that, you need the internal one used by the phone which is a soldered to the board.

In fact , the lost Samsung can be recovered back depends on whether the messages is completely deleted from Samsung ,you can restore deleted messages from Samsung from Samsung SD card ,or Samsung Memory card ,In addition, the program is also apply to almost all Android devices, including HTC, LG, Sony, Motolora, Google and so on. Hope this can help.
Like the title says, my wife is pretty upset. I got us both new unlocked s8+'s from best buy just prior to our cross country trip with our kids.
No SD card installed.
She took 200+ pictures and today they are gone. Only videos remain in the gallery, in my files, or even using a file explorer.
I called Samsung, waste of my time.
Google drive is the only cloud app being used (for documents), pics aren't there.
Any advice or thoughts? I've seen older posts on forums of this happening on android phones and not of the fixes have worked. (Clear cache, search for and remove .nomedia files)
Thanks,
Dave

Samsung has a junk file cleaner so you can get rid of unnecessary files. Your wife might have accidentally included her photos while getting rid of unnecessary files. You can ask her about this but besides that I don't know why the photos are lost (probably due to hardware error).

I'll ask her but I don't think k she did, it still says it can recover 1.5+gigs of space.
I used one of them file digger apps, I was able to retrieve all the smaller 200kb cached pictures from thumbnails and what not, but from what I've read you need root to recover the full size images...
There are a lot of stories of this happening to people when I search it and all different devices. So I hope it's not hardware. SD card going in and Google photo backup being turned on, just like the data thieves wanted us to do in the first place.....

If internal then she must have done something, if pics dissapear from sdcard its most like corrupt, best is to have that when u take pics it automatically syncs to a cloud service for backup.

3 Questions
What gallery app are you using? Did she hide or exclude any folders by accident?
Thirdly, try running a recovery programme. You can get for free on the net. So long as she has taken no further photos or put anything else on hard drive should be able to recover.
Finally check all folders on phone and also check camera app settings to ensure the folder they are saving too is correct.
This issue is not exclusive to the S8 and looking around the internet this is an existing yet unsolved issue on certain Samsung devices. I'll post here to add a bit of extra information.
My mom's Note 4 also had the same exact issue where the pictures just flat out disappeared. (Pictures, videos, screenshots). No traces of it in any folders even with a different file browser. Issue happens again and again with no pattern or known cause. I told her to buy an SD card for it this time so if it did happen again, I have full access to the storage medium. I then set the camera to save to the SD card and let her use it as usual. Guess what, the problem happened again today.
This time I took the SD card, popped it into my PC and ran Recuva recovery. I was able to recover a few intact pictures and videos from it.
Note 4 SM-N910C (Exynos 5 Octa)
Android 6.0.1, Unrooted
No root available for S8 yet so none of the recovery tools work, your photos are really gone, that's so sad.
Suggest keep your Google photos sync on and regular backup of your entire phone with Samsung Smart Switch PC version.
See if this help to recover photos from Samsung Galaxy S8+.
Why do you need root to access recovery programme?

Exactly. I've tried multiple gallery apps, file explorers and android file recovery programs (which all end up requiring root).
I don't know why root is required to access the non-root folders for a deep scan, but they do.
I was hoping there was a way with ADB that I could make a copy on the computer to then scan, but I think it's probably a waste of time now.
And yes, it was internal storage like everyone days.
I'm hesitant to use any of the cloud backup programs because of some the vulnerabilities I don't agree with. We don't even put pictures of our kids on Facebook. Which is the most secure and least likely that I'm "agreeing to allow them to use the pictures for anything", because most programs say that in the TOS.
FOR NOW, we put an sd card in. If this seems to be a software issue, should we reset her phone or reflash the unlocked firmware with odin? I wonder if a specific app could be related to it.
I convinced her to not return the pho e, but now I'm not sure it's worth keeping if it's possible to happen again.

You guys can try a factory reset. I am actually going to observe this phenomenon happen. Also my mom doesn't like loosing her game saves. I told her to copy her pictures and videos frequently to her laptop in case it happens again (and it will happen again).

Try the below app from play store. This can help you setup an easy and automated backup to a local computer or a NAS.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sweesoft.sweethome
The app can be set to auto backup on connection to the home wifi or when connected to the charger and your home wifi at the same time.

Root is now out on the S8 (snapdragon) variant so you may still be able to recover them if you haven't found a fix :good:
Galaxy S8 photos vanished
Many thanks for this post. I suffered from exactly same problem yesterday. This is the first time ever I had this problem with Samsung. I have been user of Samsung S2, S5 and now S8.
I am extremely disappointed that one of the most expensive mobiles has caused this problem. I am going to contact samsung about it because many important picture files lost.
The only precipitant was that my battery completely drained out yesterday and when I turned it on there was loss of photos last from three days.
This is completely unacceptable service from such an expensive mobile. I am very upset. My camera photos gets saved in SD card and are backed up by samsung cloud as well as in google drive.
Please help me with suggestions to recover the lost data.
Samsung s8 plus issues lossing pictures
Thought samsung is the best of the best in phones software and the rest all in one phone but clearly I was wrong I lost loads of pictures on my samsung s8 I sold yesterday and my samsung s8 plus now doing the same thing to lost 100plus pics to I'm going sell this one it's my contract phone but I don't care I just carry on paying it off but I get better phone then this that I can trust....best ones are Vodafone platinum 7 and Vodafone v8 so far are the best phones money can buy reliable to and trustworthy..... samsung makers are in software they need to do better much more improvements to
Please help me.
My problem was: suddenly my pictures disappeared from the Samsung Gallery App, but they do exist on several folders for ex. DCIM/Camera. Why arent they appearing inside Samsung Gallery? I did nothing different than what I usually do... I am so mad about this! I even did factory reset and I still cant see my pictures on Samsung Gallery
Same issue here. Just moved over from iPhone.
I've noticed that so far the pics affected have been in their own albums. One was hidden and one wasn't. 1 photo remains from the one that wasn't hidden. I think it only remains because I had texted the pic to someone.
Internal storage.
Developer Mode On.
Auto Update Off.
Have connected phone to a PC via USB prior to issue.
Images don't show in the file folders when I browse them from the My Files app, either. They're gone.
The other odd thing is this may have only started after changing this device name in About Phone.
Anyone else have a changed device name?
You guys should sync with Google Photos!
I've come across an issue concerning Google photos backup not functioning properly after i converted my Canadian G955W to G955U1, XAA. Another member on XDA forum has also confirmed the following issue though on a US Metro PCS S8+. Please test and post your results. Here are the steps to test.
Have a SD card in the phone
Make sure the Google photos app has backup/sync enabled but DOES NOT HAVE SD CARD FOLDERS SET TO BE BACKED UP
Make sure your camera is set to save to DEVICE by default and not SD card.
Copy about 1-2GB, or more, worth of video files e.g mp4 from your PC or anywhere and put them on your SD card.
Go in google photos app and browse to device folders from within the google photo app and confirm you can see the videos you copied. If so, then proceed to next steps below.
Take a picture with the phone camera and go to the google photos app(make sure wifi is ON). Check if the picture you just took gets backed up to google or does the app get stuck at showing "1 photo left to backup!
Please test this and report. This could possibly be a some bug somewhere in the G95XU1 firmware, Google photos or something in the flash process causes this behavior. I have done multiple re-flashes and factory resets and still have this issue.
I wonder if it's possible that Google Photo backup is failing because it doesn't recognize your device since you Flashed the US version?
Early morning guessing ?

I find that hard to believe because I flashed from a Xfinity US carrier phone to a metro pcs US phone and I still have that same problem. If I try to save the photos to the internal memory in the phone it has problems syncing it to the Google Cloud. If I save the photos to an SD card it has no problem to the Google Cloud. I haven't had the chance to check everything out but that is what I am seeing.

I haven't had the chance to check everything out but that is what I am seeing.

Hi there, well what you list is the opposite of my issue.
Infact having the camera store on the internal memory of the SD card is irrelevant for me.
As long as I have some video files on the SD card e.g I copy over a movie from my computer to the SD card, Google photos stops backing up any new pictures I take from the camera.
Im also seeing an odd behavior where the photos app doesn't refresh the list of files and folders on the SD card until I umount and remount the SD card on the phone.
To add further to the confusion, as long as the photos app doesn't realize that I've copied over some videos into the SD card, the backup sync keeps working fine. The moment it sees the new files that sync breaks.
Do keep in mind, all throughout this process, I have NOT selected any SD card folders to be backed up in the Google photos app.

Alirz,
By chance, did you try uninstalling and reinstalling the Google photos app?

My phone is not rooted but using a regular file explorer I can see that all the folders on the SD card have permissions of rwxr-xr-x
Whereas internal memory folders have a permission of rwxrwx--is this normal?

Done that many times, even tried several older versions of Google photos, different SD cards, different video files, multiple factory resets.
I'm really contemplating flashing back to my original firmware to see if that reoslves the issue just for my sanity sake. I'm going nuts trying to figure this issue out. It doesn't make any sense.i had no problems before flashing the g955u1 firmware.

I know this is not directly related to this thread but my problems only started after the G955U1 flash, hence im posting here an an FYI for others and also possibly get some help from other who might be seeing the same problems as me.
im also noticing that the Galaxy apps application is not realizing that there are updates available for the various installed samsung apps.
if I check under galaxy apps > my apps > updates. it shows nothing
however if go under Galaxy apps> All> it shows me that various apps need updating.
UPDATE: Well ****. Hesitantly i decided to flash back to my original firmware and guess what. I can still reproduce the problem. Im clueless now and dont know why for the past 3 months that i've had this phone, i did not run into this problem before! I copy video files to my sd card in the past many times and never had this problem before. Just to note that when i flashed back to my original firmware, i did not restore any backup or anything. Created a new Google account to test with etc to make sure everything was setup from scratch. So either all 3 of test SD cards are bad or the 30 different video files i have tested with, something is wrong with them
My phone originally is G955W with a CSC code of VTR here in Canada. My carrier supports "Smart call", "places" feature with my stock firmware and CSC.
However when i convert the phone to G955U1 , CSC of XAA. I lose those two features. Others using the G955U1 firmware have told me on reddit that as long as their carrier doesnt specifically block that feature then it shows up on their phone. however for me, those features dont even show up under settings when im on G955U1
