Alright, I have MK2 installed and the MK2 bootloader, I have it rooted and I install safestrap. I then boot into safestrap, wipe everything except SD card, install the Echoe Rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2372286
then I flash the MLD modules, I boot into download mode from safestrap and I odin MLD the AP, BL, and CP from deadly venom Kitkat Magic Tool

Looks like everything is working, Wi-Fi is working, data is working, phone is extremely fast...BUT, one thing is off. My phone isn't rooted! I go into SuperSU and it tells me there is no SU binary installed and it can't install it. All the other apps don't work and a root checker app tells me my phone isn't rooted. I'm not sure what I did wrong, can someone lead me in the right direction? :crying:
I have AT&T's Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-i337 and only updated to the MK2. I have the KNOX bootloader.

Sometimes roms aren't packaged with root or it just doesn't work right. You'll have to flash the MK2 boot.img to mount the system partition and then flash a SuperSU zip. If you don't get an option to go into Safestrap, you'll have to ODIN the MK2 downgrade files and then start from there.

Right at this very moment, I don't have time to search much.
I have an AT&T SGH-I337. I successfully downgraded from NB1 to MK2, rooted, and installed SafeStrap. I had successfully booted to stock MK2 at this point.
I downloaded Deadly Venom Kitkat Magic Tool. I used SS to wipe all except external sd. Stock rom is active. Then queued 4 zips to install -> GE-SAFESTRAP-XXUFNBH-26.zip, GE-SLiM-F4ST-ADV-KK-26.zip, UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.93.zip, and AT&TNB1KernelModules.zip. I hit home -> reboot -> download. I used ODIN to flash AP, BL, and CP from Deadly Venom tool. I unchecked auto-reboot, flashed, hold power. Safestrap says 'Safestrap Disabled', then I get bootloop at the Samsung logo. Next I went back to download mode, tried to flash AP, BL, and CP again with auto-reboot enabled. Still stuck at Samsung logo.

GE-SLiM-F4ST-ADV-KK-26.zip? An add-on to Golden eye? If that's the case, try flashing it without that add-on.

I also have Goldeneye 4.4.2 but flashed it without any addons, as per Goldeneye, the ROM needs to be installed first and setup before adding addons. Did that.
Now the issue now is how to flash just the Addons, since SS is already disabled and also fails to backup the new ROM.
thank you.
You are on the NB1 bootloader correct?
If that is the case all you need to do in order to flash the add-on is Odin the ap_mk2_normal.tar, flash the add-on, and then Odin back the NB1 files AP, BL, and CP.
Still stuck at bootloop.
I booted to download, flashed ap_mk2_normal.tar.md5 with auto reboot. Then I booted to safestrap, wiped all except external SD, flashed GE-SAFESTRAP-XXUFNBH-26.zip, UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.93.zip, and AT&TNB1KernelModules.zip in that order. Reboot back to download, flashed AP, BL, and CP from Deadly Venom tool with auto-reboot. Stuck again at Samsung logo.
Not sure if it's worth mentioning but I flashed the non-SafeStrap version of Goldeneye before now, realized my mistake, and started using the correct rom. Could it have flashed something that I need to revert?
Edit: I am current flashing the MK2 downgrade to try to boot so I can try to pick back up from a booting rom.
Edit2: Success! That must have been the problem.
so i used this method to downgrade from stock ota nb1 to mk2 then upgrade to nb1 and keep root. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2692825 i want to install a safestrap compatible rom and there is just so much data on it and not that good of english to go along with it, how should i go about doing so? can i just reboot into safestrap, v 3.72 and wipe and install or do i have to downgrade to install a kitkat rom? i also read about odin flashing kernels back and forth from mk2 then install rom, then odin nb1 kernel, please help im so confused and dont want to brick my phone again
Install safestrap 3.72 and uninstall recovery, then reinstall it.
Afterwards boot into safestrap and wip everything except your external sd. After that flash the ss certified rom of your choice then flash the att nb1 modules zip. Boot up and youre good to go.
As of 3.72 you dont need to downgrade to mk2 again nor reflash the nb1 kernels through odin.

Hi all,
I just bought a new i337 and it came with the NB1 bootloader, NB1 stock, and I followed all the steps to downgrade, etc and have SafeStrap 4.72 running it with a rooted NB1 stock firmware. However, there are some things I like about 4.3, and I would like to run SHOSTOCK (JellyBean version), but I know that I flashed a NB1 Kernel through ODIN as part of running the rooted NB1 stock. Do I have to start over and downgrade it back to MK2? Or is it as simple as just installing the SHOSTOCK for Safestrap in SafeStrap 4.72 even though in the SHOSTOCK thread they don't mention anything about 4.72, just 4.71. I guess I'm just concerned about the kernels not matching with the locked bootloader and all.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Safestrap v3.72 will mount on both 4.4 and 4.3 kernels. No need to switch back to v3.71.

Thanks for the quick response and answer.
Just a quick clarification, I cannot use Safestrap 3.71 anyway due to my phone having the NB1 bootloader, right? I thought v 3.71 was only for those on MK2 or below.
Thanks again for all your awesome work on finding workarounds for rooting NB1 phones and above!

No the SS version has more to do with your kernel not the BL. You can theoretically flash a 4.3 ROM using SS 3.71 on your 4.4 BL. There are additional requirements like modules, etc that I won't get into.
Well, I was trying to installing SHOStock 3.0- safestrap version today, and I kept getting the "cannot mount /system" in SafeStrap while installing. After rebooting a couple of times, I think I stupidly decided to do an advanced wipe of /system (among others). Do I have to go all the way back to stock NB1 (Original NB1), and then start the whole process to MK2->Root -> Safestrap all over again?
Thanks for any help!

Thanks for all the quick replies. Just to recap, ODIN back to Stock NB1 (no need to uninstall the remnants of SafeStrap I have now?), Downgrade to MK2, Root, Safestrap.
Also, I'm not sure what I did wrong when I went from rooted Stock NB1 to try to flash SHOStock 3.0 (which was 4.3). I honestly wasn't paying attention to the messages, so maybe I had a unable to mount /system error then, but then I went to reboot it, just was blank. That's when I decided to be stupid and go to recovery to advanced wipe including /system. I guess now if I want to run SHOStock 3.0, or whatever ROM, I can just install it once I have Safestrap rather than installing the Rooted ROM and kernel, right?
Thanks again!

No need to odin back to stock NB1, the downgrade file will get you back to a semi-functioning(no-wifi) MK2 at which point you can root and install safestrap. From there go to the SHoStock thread for instructions on how to properly install that particular ROM.

Thanks again for the quick reply.
Just to clarify, I guess I'm really confused about what kernel I would have if I flash the downgrade file? Would it overwrite the NB1 kernel I flashed after I flashed the rooted stock NB1 in Safestrap? I noticed that in going to rooted stock NB1 (or NC1), you have to ODIN flash the kernel.
Thanks again.

Yes the downgrade will revert you back to mk2 kernel in order for you to be able to root.
I have the s4 sgh l337 with the mdl bootloader from way back. was running Goldeneye rom and it started giving me issues. so i thought id flash the Albe s6 port rom and thought i needed safestrap for it. so i installed safestrap by installing the apk and busybox and the nc1 flasher and rebooted.
now i get the SYSTEM SOFTWARE NOT AUTHORIZED FOR AT&T and i have no recover either! its the stock recovery and im not sure how i can flash another kernel or recovery back to just reset the whole phone.
any help would be much appreciated

If you'd sure you are still on MDL bootloader then you need to odin the stock MDL firmware.
Bear in mind that if your bootloader is no longer MDL then flashing the MDL firmware could trip the knox counter.
Safestrap is for the i337 with newer bootloader. It works on NC1 bootloader as such you need NC1 flasher.
Golden eye has an option to choose between old bootloaders (MDL/MDB) and Safestrap users. Albe S6 port does not appear to have that option.

Did you uninstall safestrap before you use flashfire?
Do you use the rooted lolli rom mentioned in the guide or the custom lolli rom. If you use custom lolli, is that rom mentioned that it is flashfire compatible?
I understand you are on NC1 bootloader so in order to OC4 working properly, OC4 bootloader need to be flashed via odin.
If you try everything and did not work, go back to NB1 and start from there. Use the NB1 firmware that I mentioned before.

So dude, when I went into download mode, everytime I tried to place that ALLAT&T file into the AP slot, it would cause Odin to freeze and not respond. Naturally, I got angry and decided to reboot into system and magically, I could use the OS again. Now I think I'm going to flash the bootloader like you said

I am sure you did extract the .md5 from the .rar. The latest odin is Version 3.10.7 but I am using version 3.10.6 for that .md5 and it went well too. Try with different odin then.

Wow, NC1 flasher is to use safestrap in lollipop. It only flash the NC1 kernel.
Are you in Kitkat or lollipop. If you were in your lollipop you need to update your lollipop bootloader.
As I said before, if your phone went to softbrick just flash the NB1 firmware via odin.
