Within the past week I migrated from the ROM-crazy Touch Pro to a Samsung Moment, and I'm disappointed to find that while XDA has a thriving Android community, there's barely a mention of the Moment. This is perplexing, as the Moment seems to be a very strong device.
I have found the SDX website and appreciate the good work going on over there, but it's a pretty small (though talented!) community. I would expect the Moment to gain more of a following if it were to get more exposure. Is there a reason XDA does not have a forum for this device? How would one go about requesting a new forum?
being a Moment and a CDMA Hero User i was wondering the same thing. :\

This is a HTC device forum so no wonder the SAMSUNG Moment doesn't have its own forum. You can post things about the Moment in the Android Software Development section though.
I considered that, but then I noticed the Samsung Omnia and various Palm, Toshiba, and LG devices had XDA forums.

No love for the Moment And I have one too
Reason would be because the XDA dev's would be pretty worthless (not an attack on them, just a statement of the following fact) at modifying and developing specific for the samsung moment. It utilizies different hardware and software that isn't found on any other android device (bits and pieces are found on other samsung devices only)... For example, the samsung moment utilizes a ONEnand chip and RFS (a samsung propritary) file system...

I heard a mod said that those devices parts were made by htc and the phone was put together by htc. kinda like the nexus one thing.
Samsung Mobile and Sprint announced today that the Samsung Moment has been selected as the first phone to showcase a demonstration of a Mobile Digital TV chip.
Samsung and its Moment may not be mainstream like Motorola but I like the Moment and can't wait for the 2.1 update coming in late March or April. Should make it a better device with the improvements. At least that's the theory...
there is a forum for moment. i had it in my bookmarks but i had to do a reinstall on my comp so im searching for it again atm cuz i didnt save bookmarks.
Sadly the admins don't have time to read every thread in this forum... so it might be a better idea mentioning this in the following thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616206
This is monitored by the admins.

Indeed.. I already posted a request for the Galaxy(S) and the Spica in the request forum. If you want others, just go post your demand in following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616206
There is already a forum for Samsung (Android) devices.
Most Samsung users go to the SDX forum as XDA is an HTC Dev forum. I'd recommend checking there, first, as they have done A LOT in the way of development/modding/hacking/theming for the Moment.
The structure of the information provided in the guides can be a little hard to follow at first, but the guides are rather good. ROM/Update flashing is (often too) simple and the rooting process is automated in update.zip format, now.

Personally, as a Moment user, I utilize both XDA and SDX, as great info can be found in both forums.

Same here.
Hey everyone,
I posted a video how to for upgrading to Gingerbread and rooting the Galaxy Tab with ODIN here: youtube.com/watch?v=RtWdNqwAETs
It took me a little while to work it all out the first time (info is spread across multiple threads etc), so I recorded the process for the second tab I upgraded and posted it to Youtube. Hope someone finds it useful.
btw first post so apologies if breaking any etiquette/rules
Cheers,

This thread acts like a index to find the threads that were important and got lost in all the “junk” people keep creating, if you feel something is missing just say so and ill update.
I would also take this chance to make a request to the people that just create threads to be noticed or to be the “first” or whatever other $#%T& reason , that if you create a thread you keep it and you maintain it.
What do I mean by maintaining it ? Don’t abandon it and keep the info inside updated in the first post..

Please forgive me if this post is not in a format normally recognized, but I guess that I am not allowed to post my question in the actual place it belongs because I have not posted 10 times yet. I have followed this forum since 2012 ever since I bought a Samsung Note 10.1 and received a great deal of knowledge from it.
I am not exactly a newbie, I am 57 years old, have an BSEE since 1980, have used and maintained computers since the earliest days (1975),
have owned and used several tablets since 2010, have rooted and used alternate roms since 2011. Also I have owned about every high-power PDA that was made in the 1980's and 1990's -(the predecessor to tablets ).
But I guess that I am not going to know why the current version of Cyanogenmod 11.0 will not read USB Thumbdrives. So far no one else has stated this problem so there is very little need for me to search the forum because it is not there- I have read each and every post.
I guess that I will have to check back each day (like I do now), to see if anyone else has that problem and reports it. If not, I will have to wipe my tablet and use some other ROM and start over- and again, I will have a forum where I won't be allowed to post in.
What kind of posts am I expected to make if I really don't have something to contribute that is worthwhile?
I'm not even allowed to post ....."me too" or "good job" except in this "General Forum.

Its the rules is why just like the rule is to use Q&A section for questions .
Its easy enough to make ten valid posts see XDA Forum rules . Start by asking your question re CM in the question and answers forum .
The main reason for ten posts is to stop repetitive questions in development .
Now you may have only one post but are of a far higher user knowledge than many with 100 posts and are going to post a valid question that has not been posted before . But how on earth is it known beforehand your validity .

To more specifically answer the technical question, CM11 as well as Kitkat 4.4 has a problem with OTG nd USB. HOWEVER, if you flash the Gnabo v6 ROM and the as Lord Boeffla for his alpha2 kernel in the same thread, you will most likely be haapy to see USB OTG working. See for e.g.

Good luck! And just keep posting and youll break the barrier...
EDIT: I just saw you have N8000, which is touch-n-go withe the kernel. N8013 has proved very successful...
I've rooted every phone I've owned and was expecting to do the same with my new s7 Edge (Snapdragon on android 6.0.1). After much google searching/reading I want to confirm that not only is there no root but there likely will be no root because of a locked bootloader?
Are you able to root the S7? I may switch to that if so.

Here's a link for you to go explore the xposed forums that you failed to read.
Xposed has been around quite a bit longer than the S7. And simply because you are "in disbelief" or "denial", doesn't change the ability to read all the threads for xposed, and all that has been posted quite a bit before the s7 was mentioned.
ENOUGH! Unless you want this thread moved to the Asperger's section you guys are way off topic.
OP, you have your answer. There is no ETA for root. There probably won't be root at all.
My opinion which was inspired by my own perspective is that if you were able to find the forum, you could have taken at least FIVE minutes to read on the progress of root. It seriously would have taken less time to search than to start a new thread. Most of us on here are hoping, wishing, begging and even praying for root access. We've been following the results closely and some of us are even risking our own devices out of desperation to acquire to what has only have been complete failure so far. So with that being said, we're all a bit edgy. So on behalf of the forum, please just accept this as our excuse and most formal apology for any "rudeness" or "inconsiderate" responses to your inquiry. For future reference, all XDA members are encouraged to search prior to starting a new thread for the very reason of avoiding situations such as this. You've been a member for five years and so far have had 50 posts, 10 threads and two of those (threads) are the EXACT same.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/external-usb-keyboard-mouse-htc-10-t3406812 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/external-usb-keyboard-mouse-htc-10-t3406655 posted about five hours apart. (How do you even do that?)
So in conclusion, it's unfair to be defensive when in all honesty all of this could easily be avoided by using the forum for it's very purpose which is to gather and share information to each other, not to have everyone research for you.
Sorry if this was long winded, but I felt that it was necessary to say.

To answer your question I had no idea I double posted that thread, I don't even know how it happened lol
I actually did a lot of searching on this forum before posting, honestly there's just no obvious post title's that talk about root for the s7 edge snapdragon. Go check it out, search "root access", "root", "s7 edge root" on these forums and see what you come up with, the thread titles definitely do not indicate that root is discussed within them (for snapdragon).

If there was root then there would be a "HOW TO ROOT" guide. It's how it's always been. But stating that you searched and somehow didn't pick up the obvious that it isn't possible (yet) is only going to get you flamed. Members only assume that you're either trolling or at the very best too lazy to search it out. There are several threads and comments regarding lack of root. There are petitions and bounties for it as well. So you still defend that with all of your searching you didn't see ANY of that? That's what most of us find hard to believe.

Your post really drives my point home.
I was looking/searching for s7 edge root information. The only logical place for me to search these forums is in the "s7 edge" forums. Many of the links you gave below are in the S7 forum; why would someone search in the s7 forum for information on the s7 edge? They wouldn't...But here's the actual issue, the rest of the links you gave either do not show up when you search the forum for "root" or they are buried so far into the search it's not practical to find it. Again, try it yourself. go to the S7 edge page here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge
and do a search for "root" and see what you get. Can you honestly not see how these search results do not lead to a definitive answer? To prove my point even more, I actually typed in one of the titles you gave below, "Root and unlocked bootloader update" into the search box and it didn't even bring that thread up after searching the title directly. Maybe the search is broken. Try it yourself, it doesn't work.

You're just making excuses. You failed to search and read. We're not going to open more threads discussing how rooting is NOT possible when it should be clear for anyone with common sense would see that if it WAS possible, there would be guides to do it. You don't need to post a thread asking for something that doesn't exist when it clearly isn't otherwise there would be guides, roms, kernels, recoveries, themes, mods, etc. You don't see any of that because they don't exist. They don't exist because there's NOTHING TO GIVE! Not sure why the concept is so difficult to grasp though. The S7 and S7 Edge (Qualcomm) is almost identical with the exception of the screen. Neither of which has root.
But I gave your search a try. Under S7 Edge forum. I searched for "Qualcomm root" and resulted in:

lol, seriously man. You really think someone who just bought an s7 edge looking to root would know to search for the term "Qualcomm"? That's the first I have ever heard that term, I searched "root" and even knew to search "snapdragon". The search you used is only obvious after you know more than the average person about the s7 Edge.
But anyway let me make sure I have everything straight now:
Searching "root" in the S7 Edge forums may not yield the results you are looking for because the S7 Edge is also known as the Snapdragon and may at times also be referred to as the Qualcomm or Qualcomm S7 Edge but can be more commonly referred to as MODEL TYPE: SM-G935P however depending on the locale of purchase it will be referred to as the Exynos which is the international version MODEL TYPE: (SM-G935T) of the snapdragon QUALCOMM s7 "edge" SM-G935P and contains a Samsung processor instead of the Snapragon but may be confused with the identical model (except for the screen) which is the s7 and also has a counterpart in Europe and like it's edge sister model has a locked boot-loader which prevents it from gaining root access unlike the overseas version which is currently unlocked and is able to be rooted so when you see threads talking about the SM-G935T Exynos root then you should know that it's not necessarily referring to the version of phone you have although it may be if you purchased it online through a third party with an unlocked sim card.
It's all very obvious to anyone with common sense.

Yet you still made this thread. For what purpose though? Did you expect your thread to remind us, "Oh! That's what we're missing! Let's create a 'How to root' thread so that people can figure out how to root it because we all know how incapable the forum is without a guide."
For one thing, the forum is very capable. This is how we acquire root access in the first place. Smart ones acquire root and make a guide for the rest of us (dumb ones) so that we can have root as well. If the "smart ones" haven't created a guide for us "dumb ones" (ie the rest of us) then clearly it's not available. But like you said, you're in denial. So in your eyes, we should definitely have root but for some reason it's not being shared with the rest of us. So what do YOU do to fix it? Post a thread to remind everyone that there isn't a root guide. That. That right there is what perplexes me and I'm 100% certain that I'm not alone. Now I'm not trying to be rude but please search, research and read prior to starting a thread. ONLY create a thread if after a LOT of searching and posting in relevant threads you still come up empty. You've created 10 threads with 50 posts. Two of which are duplicate somehow. No including the threads started or your defensive responses here, that's 40 posts. That's a 20% "I can't find it so I'll ask the forum to give it to me instead of searching more" ratio. I'm a retired forum moderator, former developer, regular contributor and I only have 51 threads to my 5,600 post count. since 2009. That's a 1% "Let me start a thread for this" ratio for a moderator / developer. On average, that's 5 threads a year as a moderator / developer. See where I'm going with this? There is almost nothing new that hasn't been mentioned or discussed somewhere within this forum. You just need to take the time to find it instead of just jumping to start a new thread. This is actually a forum rule. Number #1 to be exact. I'll post the link just in case you can't find it either.

So with that being said, please take time to search and read prior to posting new threads.
Again, I'm not trying to be disrespectful. Simply acknowledge that you should spend more time searching, reading, researching and participating in other threads prior to creating new ones. We're trying to reduce clutter and needless threads such as this. Moderators are constantly trying to clean and close them when they should be focusing on more important issues within the forum. We're all doing our part to help out in this forum but while I've spent at least a collective helping you for something that you really could have done for yourself, I could have been focusing on more important issues. I simply could not go without trying to give you sound advice before getting majority of the forum upset at you. Which WILL happen if you're not careful.
Best wishes and good luck. I'll be reporting this thread for closing if that's okay?

I've rooted every phone I've owned and was expecting to do the same with my new s7 Edge (Snapdragon on android 6.0.1). After much google searching/reading I want to confirm that not only is there no root but there likely will be no root because of a locked bootloader?

TL;DR confirmed.
THREAD CLOSED as it's run off course and become pointless.
@OP, don't start another one like it. Feel free to read up on the currently open threads if you still have questions.
