Within the past week I migrated from the ROM-crazy Touch Pro to a Samsung Moment, and I'm disappointed to find that while XDA has a thriving Android community, there's barely a mention of the Moment. This is perplexing, as the Moment seems to be a very strong device.
I have found the SDX website and appreciate the good work going on over there, but it's a pretty small (though talented!) community. I would expect the Moment to gain more of a following if it were to get more exposure. Is there a reason XDA does not have a forum for this device? How would one go about requesting a new forum?
being a Moment and a CDMA Hero User i was wondering the same thing. :\

This is a HTC device forum so no wonder the SAMSUNG Moment doesn't have its own forum. You can post things about the Moment in the Android Software Development section though.
I considered that, but then I noticed the Samsung Omnia and various Palm, Toshiba, and LG devices had XDA forums.

No love for the Moment And I have one too
Reason would be because the XDA dev's would be pretty worthless (not an attack on them, just a statement of the following fact) at modifying and developing specific for the samsung moment. It utilizies different hardware and software that isn't found on any other android device (bits and pieces are found on other samsung devices only)... For example, the samsung moment utilizes a ONEnand chip and RFS (a samsung propritary) file system...

I heard a mod said that those devices parts were made by htc and the phone was put together by htc. kinda like the nexus one thing.
Samsung Mobile and Sprint announced today that the Samsung Moment has been selected as the first phone to showcase a demonstration of a Mobile Digital TV chip.
Samsung and its Moment may not be mainstream like Motorola but I like the Moment and can't wait for the 2.1 update coming in late March or April. Should make it a better device with the improvements. At least that's the theory...
there is a forum for moment. i had it in my bookmarks but i had to do a reinstall on my comp so im searching for it again atm cuz i didnt save bookmarks.
Sadly the admins don't have time to read every thread in this forum... so it might be a better idea mentioning this in the following thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616206

Indeed.. I already posted a request for the Galaxy(S) and the Spica in the request forum. If you want others, just go post your demand in following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616206
There is already a forum for Samsung (Android) devices.
Most Samsung users go to the SDX forum as XDA is an HTC Dev forum. I'd recommend checking there, first, as they have done A LOT in the way of development/modding/hacking/theming for the Moment.
The structure of the information provided in the guides can be a little hard to follow at first, but the guides are rather good. ROM/Update flashing is (often too) simple and the rooting process is automated in update.zip format, now.

Personally, as a Moment user, I utilize both XDA and SDX, as great info can be found in both forums.

I am sorry as I searched the forum for this and actually found 1 hit, but it seems that thread is removed.
So I am thinking about getting the cheap T-Mobile Pulse as second device to try some Android and experiment. As it is Android it should be easy to tweak and give it ROM threatment.
But I don't know how it works here. I know my blackstone gets good attention, but all HTC phones get that over here.
So I was wondering because of the different manufacturer Huawei, will the Pulse get a seperate forum as well and would we see ROM development there, or is this device just to small?
I guess otherwise it would be smarter to wait for a bigger device, which is accessable for a wider audience.
No it wont XDA Developers is purely for HTC Devices.
Please in future post in correct sub forum.
Closed.
Well the Behold II is upon and its pretty similar to the Galaxy, so can the great guys here at XDA develop some ROMs for them? We need a separate forum for these phones.
This a forum for HTC phones, so you wont see any new sections for non-hTC devices.

If perchance you mean the Palm Treo 750, then you would be mistaken as it is in fact manufactured by HTC...as is every single device that has its own sub-forum on XDA.
I just want to see these devices rooted so we can installed the better Samsung music, video player(I think there is divx support), and if possible the camera software also.
Hey Everyone I posted a new thread with some updated information about the BH2 which may have us one step closer to perm root and recovery and custom ROMS.

Then allow me to ask an obvious question: Why would a presumably independent user-run internet forum like this one devote itself entirely and exclusively to one specific manufacturer? Assuming that HTC doesn't actually own this forum, why is such blatant favoritism/discrimination taking place? Does HTC pay some kind of fee to have XDA dedicated entirely to its devices only? I don't get it. Why the preferential treatment?
Don't be disrespectful ... READ the history of XDA and why it came about before you guys take on XDA .,.,., Instead of demanding a forum , lets see if we can get some of the devs interested in these units.... First thing first ,they need to have the phone in hand to work on them , so find one willing and lets get that dev a phone to hack...some of you guys kno how to get a second phone @ no cost (**cough**lost **cough**phone)so do it .,. lets get them hacking this beautiful unit ,.,..,

That is like asking Tmonews.com why they only have T-Mobile specific forums and not AT&T and Verizon and Orange and Roger and some Japanese network. It's because it's there site and they just want to focus on one subject. If you want discussion about different phones then this is a site that is not right for you. The owner just wants HTC and he's paying the bills so he will keep it just HTC.
But this site isn't called HTC-Developers, so it isn't obvious to visitors or members where the HTC devotion/bias comes from. Most people get referred here from other forums when looking for WinMo hacks, ROMs etc, not because they were looking for something HTC-specific.
I've actually been a member and regular visitor of this forum for a couple of years I believe, and this is the first time I've ever even heard of this HTC-centricity. It always seemed more generally Windows Mobile/OS focused than manufacturer specific.
In any case I don't recall challenging the site owner's authority or right to gear the site toward whatever he/she wishes. Rather my question was WHY this is the case, as in WHY the devs are devoted to HTC over other manufacturers. There is a significant difference between asking why something is the case, and suggesting that the owner doesn't have the right to make it so. Saying "because the owner wants it that way" isn't an answer to the question "Why does the owner want it that way?".
I did read the history and realize that the site started years ago based on an early HTC device or two; what I don't understand is why it has remained that way. My first vehicle was a tricycle but that doesn't mean I've stayed a tricycle devotee and ignored bikes and cars even to this day.
Back in those days HTC was mainly just making phones for other companies , like Imate tmobile O2 etc..... and they wont branded HTC but , whatever company it was made for . This site was born based on the lack of support these companies provided, you was always redirected to HTC who inturn sent you to your carrier. It has grown since then mostly windows mobile but now has a fast growing android side . They will support HTC androids , but thankfully some of the hacks work on other android devices ... We just have to get devs intrested in these devices and they can post their work here in the android Development section ... I think this would help us a lot
Its too bad, really: the only downside I find to my current phone (Sammy Moment) is that it isn't supported by XDA. My next phone will more than likely be HTC just because I miss all the value added this community provides.
Well if Im not mistaken the moto droid is Motorola and Motorola is not htc or in any form HTC and the acer infact isnt HTC therefore this hole site isnt HTC....
WHAT IN THE WORLD!
Hey, can we get a ROM or not? I just got this Behold 2 and I know DroidDeveloper managed to flash a Galaxy ROM onto it... what is the issues here? Just post some ROMs or post something productive. This phone has been out since December. Since everybody is cheap, I'll buy a dev a Behold 2 so they can start cooking some ROMs up... come on now...
We heard from a lot of users and moderators on the issue of whether to put all Galaxy S forums under one roof or to offer separate forums for them all.
For the sake of keeping confusion to a minimum plus ensuring that XDA stays as organized as possible, we've officially decided to launch forums for all four variants of the Galaxy S. We expect these four devices (plus the unlocked Galaxy S) to be very popular devices once they're on sale.
Here are the links!
Sprint Epic 4G
AT&T Captivate
T-Mobile Vibrant
Verizon Fascinate
This forum will be for the unlocked European version of the Galaxy S that has been on sale since June.
Thanks to everyone!
Edit by Chainfire:
Please note various Q&A from the i9000 (unlocked European version) FAQ may still be relevant to your device:

Is there any way for them to be all under the same parent forum on the tree so that we don't get heavy fragmentation in discussions? It would make it easier for people to find threads that were for other Galaxy S derived devices that also affected them, but were posted in the other forums.

The Themes and Apps sections will indeed have some redundancy, and we may remove those forums except from the main Galaxy S I9000. Then the trouble becomes that people will post about themes and apps with the OTHER forums like General, etc. So, we'll have to play it by ear and see how things go!
Keep the forums separate, but how about having a universal Themes and Apps topics all linked to the main one here?
can we have all the varieties themes and apps page link to the galaxy s one? Accessories and ROM dev. is nice to have separated but general and apps do not. If a thread poster feels it is phone specific he can just state the variant in the title no?

sorry.. but bad move to create separate forums... we now have to check 5 forums to find what we want.
this reminds me of the G1/Magic32B/Magic32A forums where nearly all development and modding was posted in the G1 forum (dev device), leaving the Magic forums abandoned, or full of links to G1 forum posts for those with 32B radios.
I predict that the Vibrant & Euro unlocked S will be the most used devices, leaving the other forums as good as empty or posted with stuff like "I found this on the Vibrant/S forum".
what about the forum search? will we now need to search all forums? increases the load right?
anyway.. last time I checked the poll regarding this, most of the users voted for seperate SUB forums.. did this change so drastically in the last weeks?
Separate forums of the SAME device by US carriers??? WTF?
Disagree... completely.

Precisely.
I see no reason for 5 separate forums. I think a much better idea would have to have a single GalaxyS forum, and add subforums for specific variants as the need arises (if it ever does).
Having 5 forums just wastes everyone's time. It even makes searching useless .

What amazing is they ask for a vote then go against it WTF
I think it would have been best to make them all in 1 forum and then have a sub forums for GSM and CDMA...
or make a sub forum for each device and a main forum for all of them to have a General...
cause there are many issues people are talking about in the Vibrant and the I9000 which are EXACTLY the same...
not to mention we need some stickies with common issues and questions..
On a similar note. The Samsung Vibrant or Galaxy S similar to the european version has 4 haptic buttons whereas the latter has only 2 and the
Big plastic intergrated middle button. Is this something people would prefer and would it be beneficial in the long run of android where it would
have been if the phone was to run windows 7.
BTW.... I Am not pleased that the American market also shipped this with the Avatar Film pre-installed...LOL!
Hi,
Just want to say that im likely coming from HD2 section soon as im getting a GS2.
I'm just a bit gutted as this section doest seem as organized as HD2 section, ie there doesn't seem to be a dating convention (or at least non enforced) so topics seem random.
What I like about HD2 section is that for the most part most devs/cooks etc release to same standard naming rules, ie [date].[ROM/KERNEL].[Rom Title/Version.[Etc].
These standards make things much more orgnized overall and looking at this section sort of brings me back to when I was using the HTC Universal forum
I'm sure I will eventually find my way and learn to get used to going back to less standards, mostly because im sooo looking forward to getting the GS2 so everything else is second

Cant see why it was voted against tbh.
2 good things about the HD2 forum is 1) Its huge amount of dedicated developer following and 2) Its organization. Even though I visit the forum daily so know which topics are new/updated its nice to see a standard topic title naming convention with date/type/title, That way you can see clearly from browse page which are updated topics with regards to builds instead of dates/titles been in random sequence.
Either way I'll have to learn to adapt back to this random naming as GS2 will be my daily device soon. However I wont miss my HD2 simply because it wont be going anywhere, I will still be using it to try new roms and also as a great backup.
I also came from the HD2 section and finding the GS2 section a bit of a maze, but all is well ) I'm hoping this GS2 will give me as much play as my HD2's did.. still have them, one cracked screen and one that the digitizer is going out on, the screen will stop responding until I press the End button twice.

Well im gunna be honest here, I actually have a iPhone 4S aswell atm but I just cant get used to such a mall screen and although the OS is quite good (as far as stability, ease of use) I just cant get used to having my fecking hand held every step of way and also the feeling of having them tied behind my back at most points. I bought it because I was given it at such a great price that I would have no problem getting rid once I was bored (approx 3 weeks) and then getting my only viable HD2 replacement (hardware wise compared to price). Before the GS2 I just didnt really see any reason to get new device since HD2 had basically (or in allot of cases better) hardware then new native Android devices.
Just made my mind up now and getting rid of the iPhone, keeping my HD2 and having GS2 as main device.
PS. Just want to add, I'm also a Galaxy Tab 7 user and that forum also (for the most part) keeps to a standard way of titling topics so its going to be hard to getting used to the dev sections here.

Unfortunately many posters will not follow the rules and post questions in the wrong section .
We also have a greater share of idiotic repeat posts fails to use search posters .

Almost all of our threads have a [ROM] or [KERNEL] or [KITCHEN] or [GUIDE] tag.
The initial perusal might be somewhat daunting. Once you understand Samsung's ROM releasing conventions, you'll understand why we don't insist on having each thread tagged with a date. I'd recommend reading the first 3 posts of Intratech's thread to give you a start. The series of numbers/letters found in the title of most [ROM] threads is essentially our dating convention (ie XWKK5).
Then maybe sort the forum by the "Stats" column to see what's popular and go from there.

Hey GRiM-UK, if you're coming from the HD2 and have used Hyperdroid, we've got pongster and doctorcete working their magic here yet again. It evolved into something different considering ROMs here are mostly based on stock (Some AOSP, MIUI and CM also) because of proprietary drivers which source isn't always available for sadly...
It does take some getting used to, as I do agree the HD2 forums were easier to understand (And less noobish to me), but you know... Sometimes you have to move on. haha. I mostly read the general page and the original android page, but the decent information a tad all over the place... So good luck!

I think you misunderstand, Im very familiar with what a Rom and Kernel is and their tags etc and am not a n00b who gets confused.
I'm simply saying that it really benefits the forum when each release has a date tag at beginning of topic title instead of in random position or not at all. It means that all dates are in same line and each release is easily distinguishable by build date an you can check for updates at a glance and not rely on remembering all the version numbers.
Its a really small thing that makes a huge difference, Ill probably end up getting used to not having them but atm its really hard adjusting. The HD2 section is just far superior in organization imho.
For example checkout the HD2 NAND section compare to the Dev sectiosn here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=928
Please don't think I'm complaining or don't appreciate the work in this section, I'm just a bit disappointed that XDA or section mods hasn't tried to bring the convention to other forums, Guess I just assumed others were same by now.
I guess this will all change when XDA finally starts its release database.
welcome to the SGS2 section my friend!
Its quite different over here as one of the rules of being in the SGS2 section is we must deal with grumpy and abusive coders, who are to busy yelling and abusing than to actually get on working with the code!
You'll soon meet codeworkx soon enough....you lucky devil you....
OK, so I've searched the forums, and so far have come up empty. Mods, if I missed a thread , I apologize.
What I'm looking for and would love to find, is a list of ROMs, sorted by device. Like if I wanted to see what ROMs are available for my Nexus 7, I would like to be able to visit a website, enter my device and be shown every ROM that is compatible with my device..
I believe developers would have an easier time of spreading the word about their products, if people didn't have to spend hours surfing the forums, searching for people who are running whichever ROM on whatever device. Just my 2 cents.
The fact that something like this doesn't exist is beyond me. Maybe I just can't find it..
It doesn't exist because it is logistically unfeasible and impractical. The closest you could hope to come to something like this is goo.im, and it is by no means all inclusive.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
You could certainly start a Wiki. It would be a service to some.
My own request would be for people who start topics, give them a title as specific as possible.
A topic as general as this one wastes an awful lot of folks time, opening it to see what it is about.

How is logistically impossible? Its just data being pointed to by hyperlinks.. All it would take is for various developers to submit links to a particular site that would allow users to search for their device. Much like this site, as it allows you to select your device then attempts (horribly) to show you what is relevant to your device. Problem is, if you want to find out, for example, what's the hottest new stable ROM for your device, you have yo sort through all the crap unrelated posts to find it.
And as far as practicality is concerned..it would be EXTREMELY practical. The idea itself is to simplify to the process by which people access information. Pretty sure that's the DEFINITION of practical.

What you propose would necessitate all developers submitting their Tom's and updates. As of six months ago, there were roughly 4,000 distinct versions of hardware running Android in 195 countries. Also take into account the multitude of individually compiled kangs, along with the fact that many roms see updates on a daily basis, and the necessary scope of such a project gets even deeper and more costly.
For the devs, it would represent nothing more than yet another repository for them to keep up with. Others don't want their roms mirrored by third parties, as they prefer to either directly track their downloads or have the traffic driven to their sites.
As it stands, goo represents the most comprehensive solution to your query given the real world limitations faced.

Bad Idea.Confusion and Bricked Devices would Increase
i think having a list type site would be a injustice to the rom Developers. As they post vital information and updates as well as user feedback on the Developers. Rom threads posted here in Developer forums.. Also it allows feed back between developers and users on what they want ,what works and what does not...
Not to mention the ability for users to help with the development of there favorite rom by passing donations to the Developer..
The so called list is here alive and active. Its called xda developer forums.. Each device has its own forum each forum is broken down into sections. What more would be needed then our Developer forums . Then developer rom threads.
I would not download a rom bases on a list from a 3rd party site.. I can see that causing roms being mistaken from one to another..
Just my opinion.. what we have now is not broken.. No reason to fix it cm 10 has a download list of all roms... Paranoid andorid does as well all the big dev teams do this... Your just not looking deep enough ...
One more thing. If it were that simple without having to read about a rom. There would be a ton of bricked devices from people not knowing what they are really doing when flashing or the risk they are taking..
Good Luck on your List and getting developers on board..
