I don't think you can recover your photos, thumbdata doesn't contain the original image, just thumbnails, which are small snapshots of the real files.

.thumbnails is supposed to be hidden, the android OS uses this folder as a cache to quickly show the gallery. i suppose you can clear it, the next time you open the gallery i think it will remake thumbs. not to shure.
did you delete photo's with an file manager, or with gallery?

Hi Thanks...I deleted the images in the gallery app. Yesterday I deleted the images in the .thumbnails folder...android did re-create them, but the ones I had deleted were no longer there so sorted!
But I still think android should delete the temporary thumnail once the photo has been deleted from the Gallery too!

Tapping "Clear cache" should rid of the thumbnails but they will come back every time the app is opened. I don't think you can rid of them, unfortunately. Sorry.
However, a workaround can be out forth, check out the long fifth post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318827

I have tried that way too, and guess what, I had 2+2 = 4 GB thumbnail files at the end of the day! So it regenerate the original file plus made the small size of file up to 2 gb too. SO it didnt work with me.

My gallery is not so full , I have deleted many of folders and files in it, but the thumbnail file is still remain in the root of DCim folder and no matter how many times i delete it, regenerates itself.

Just a long shot
Copy the .nomedia file from
Android/data
Then put it in .thumbnails folder
Tell me what happens
No, that didnt help too. My 2.3 GB thumbnail file is still there
Will it delete thumbnail files if i do a factory reset?

Thanks,
Gavin
No, I don't think there are any way to get it back
No...you have to do a backup in samsung cloud everytimes you modify or add a file in secure folder or you lost this

You can take the help of a third party recovery app or software to regain back your photos stored in the secured folder. For example like Recuva, Stellar Phoenix, Remo Recover etc

Those won't be useful for him as he already deleted the image and data recovery apps don't seem to work in secure folder even if you delete the image after installing those apps.

Somehow im happy not having to search more for "good recovery programs" that will gain the first su access i ever gave lol.(sceptical bout giving SU to anyone... so what will i use it for lol)
I just rooted and stuff to recover an unknown document, probably several pages long. its from a private folder in my s5. I reformatted the pics inside to gain some room on internal and deleted the "empty" folder. I forgot 2 other files i couldnt see in gallery :crying:

If you deleted them from the recycle bin then there's no way to recover them
