[Q] KitKat install error - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My friend has a Defy, and I have tried to install Kitkat to it. I was almost successful, but gapps dont go it, and booting is very-very slow.
I figured it out that there is a recovery error: cant mount /cache, and cant format is. I think cache is needed to boot faster.
And I cant to install any aps because "no internal memory space available"
I made a full wipe before install, format sd, system, data... etc.
When kitkat boots, statusbar is OK, quickbar OK, so i can enter Settings, do connect wifi, bluetooth, etc, but I have no launcher. Internal memory seems to be 68MB (defy has 2GB i think).
After restart, all changes lost.
Do u have any idea to re-create /cache partition (i have TWRP) and make internal SD visible to OS?
Thank u in advance

Which gapps did you install? You need the minimal version of BaNkS gapps.

I installed the minimal.

Did you try to wipe, install only ROM first, boot the device, and then reboot in TWRP and install lastest minimal Gapps?

Sure.
I installed back CM 7.2, it works perfectly

[Q] CM10 - Quarx - OK that System is full?

Hi there,
is it normal that /system is full? I'm on Quarx CM10.
Please see screenshot.
Thanks,
Matthias
Not ok.
I've asked in CM10 FAQs tread why system is full after clean install, answer is Full Gapps is the culprit.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36151535&postcount=816
So, do a clean install again and use this minimal Gapps instead. http://d-h.st/lxT
Thanks.
Here is what I did:
Boot into custom recovery
Selected factory reset
wipe cache / dalvik
Installed CM10 20121118 nightly
Installed JB Mini GApps
Wipe cache / Dalvik again
When I do that I get to 9MB free system....
Does the factory reset format the system partition?
Is of no importance if you have free space on /system. If you wanna make some room on ROM partition you can remove some system app. But again, no benefit.
To finish this thread, I found help here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36380618&postcount=2
Got the ext4 full wipe script here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818520
Did a full wipe and flashed CM 10 + mini apps and back to 50mb.
I think I will do this all the time now so stuff does not stay in the system partition.
Anyone can help how I can do this without a working CWM ? I updated from 7.2 to Quarx CM10 but failed to see that I should only install the minimal gapps (the howto (wrongly?) mentioned "Use the last gapps-jb-2012XXXX-signed.zip" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1795647 )
First CM10 didnt boot at all (only saw the rotating ring, and had to remove the battery), then I entered stock recovery and wiped data/factory reset. Now it boots somehow, but it asks me for google account etc. each time and is quite slow overall. I then saw /system only has some kilobytes free space. If I boot to system menu or recovery, it just normally reboots.
Remounting /system RW as root didnt work.
Any way to still be able to clean up /system ?? I also couldnt write a SBF with sbf_flash in linux. Do I need windows with RDS Lite and a specific SBF ? I tried the SBF mentioned there below "Common Problems/Questions" for recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982 "JORDN_U3_97.21.51"
------
EDIT:
I am sorry, I was too stupid to press the down button in the right moment when the blue led is on.
But I am wondering why no howto mentions to clean up /system .. I always thought this is handled by some script in the update.zip files. It is clearly a very bad idea to NOT clean up system. It will be stuffed full with data garbage between your normal files ...

Reduced internal storage to about 450 mb after installing twrp.

I installed twrp using adb in my lenovo k4 note (A7010a48) after which the internal memory of my device reduced to 450 mb from 16 GB and I installed official resurrection remix in it. Though the storage option from settings shows 16 GB memory out of which 14 GB is used by system while in twrp it shows only 450 mb. Now due to this I would like to reinstall my stock ROM and stock recovery and get my storage and volte back. Please tell me if there are any ways. Also when I try to open my recovery there is a black screen only. Thanks in advance.
Actually that happened for me too.. I found that it happens when I unlock the bootloader, boot to recovery , deleting "boot_from_recovery.p" and WITHOUT flashing super su nor booting to system, directly flashing any other twrp recovery or wiping the Dalvik cache, system, data, the recovery finds our sdcard (internal storage) partition as 774 MB or in your case 450 MB. So to get rid of these things, flash s232 firmware again unlock bootloader, boot to recovery, delete the file "boot from recovery.p", flash SuperSU, clear Dalvik cache and cache, let the phone boot to system ( normal startup) and then reboot to recovery and voila! You will find internal storage as usual .:good:

perform factory reset in twrp recovery, to fix that issue

Is there any way I can skip flashing the firmware and do this with the custom rom installed? Also, where is the "boot_from_recovery.p" file located? xda says /system but I can't find it there.

Try factory resetting from twrp as mohan mentioned above.. if it did not worked, probably that's the only way.
Figured out how to get rid of this issue: After installing stock rom, unlocking bootloader and flashing TWRP through ADB: you have to reboot into system (stock ROM), go through the setup and only then are you able to go back into TWRP to wipe and flash the custom ROM of your choice (in this case RR, without having full internal storage).
regarding internal storage issue
Is your solution will fix my internal storage problem
Fixed it for me so yes
While flashing RR, I also ended up in the same position. Here's how I fixed it:
1) Post flashing RR, goto bootloader and flash recovery-mohan-n.img
2) reboot to recovery
3) click on wipe and then select format data (option next to advance wipe).
4) Once format is complete, go back to main screen and Reboot to system.
Hence the problem shall be resolved.
PLS HELP!!!

TWRP 3.1.1-0 error 7 while flashing ANY rom

Hi guys, i tried today to install some roms(lineage 14.1, official and unofficial, latest nightly) , rr 5.8.3 with my twrp but i get error 7 , i tried to delete the first 2 lines(the assert getrpop thing) on all of them with noresults(same exact error) .
My oos version is 3.6.0, kernel is stock and SU is not installed(forgot to install after 3.6.0 update).
Any idea about how to solve that?
I don't want to wipe so don't suggest it, please
Did you "wipe everything except internal storage" before install?

I didn't, to avoid troubles with backing up 15gb of things, takes ages to do.
Can't i just dirty install those roms?
If i do that my internal storage will be untouched, right?
You won't (theoretically) loose your stuff. Just wipe the data, system and cache. Don't touch internal memory, then you will not loose anything.
Look at attached picture.
Then install choosed rom with gapps (if you want).
Of course, backup is always recommended.

So if i only backup those partition i should be fine, right?
I'll probably somehow backup the internal memory just for safety(even tho are 20gb+).
I'll try and see what happens

Axon 7 randomly stopped booting

Hi there, I have an Axon 7 with LineageOS that was working like a charm until I rebooted it today. It was in the normal lineage OS boot animation with the blue circle moving from right to left, except it never stopped. Now after trying a few more times, it just keeps playing the animation except the phone will vibrate slightly every several seconds. The phone is encrypted but that hasn't been a problem. When I reboot to TWRP, it says Unable to mount storage.
I tried wiping Cache and Dalvik / ART Cache, but this didn't help. Finally, I do have a backup from 7-20-2017 but I'd rather not have to go back to that...
Any recommendations?

So you can't see the internal storage from TWRP? I'm guessing encryption actually plays a part here. Formatting data is probably the best course of action, though you should flash magisk or superSu if you do, to get rid of encryption. But you obviously lose everything that's on the internal storage.
Maybe make a system and boot backup and clean flash Lineage. Like, wipe system and caches, then flash the bootloader, modem, LOS and whatever else you flash

Is it easier to just use the backup I have currently? If so, what are the steps necessary for that (sorry for newb questions, haven't messed with it in a while)
EDIT: Also, TWRP claims decryption is successful when it is loading up.

Again. Can you see the internal storage?
Don't restore the backup. Your problem is basically either on /system (clean flash of the ROM will do) or on /data (complete format of data is needed). So try the non destructive one first

I don't see any storage folder. So if I want to install the latest LOS and frankly just start from scratch, can I follow the guide here https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/axon7/install#installing-lineageos-from-recovery starting from "Installing LineageOS from recovery"? Will I still need to install something to wipe the encryption?

What? No... That's for normal phones. How did you manage to install LOS without knowing that you need the univ. bootloader and modem?
So, you can't access the internal storage via the file manager on TWRP i'm guessing.
Wipe - Format data, after that flash the Universal bootloader, modem, LOS, Magisk, GApps. Magisk takes care of dm-verity and disables encryption. Don't try to uninstall it though or your internal storage will get encrypted as soon as you do. But if you want to change ROMs you can just fpash it before booting and it won't ger encrypted.

ZE601KL No OS installed! (TWRP)

Hi all,
Recently it's been restarting every once in a while.
I have TWRP installed, so I went into recovery mode and factory data reset my device to start fresh of course backing up all my data.
But me being the cleverclogs went into Wipe -> Advanced Wipe and selected all the boxes thinking it will do a proper cleanout (Dalvik/ART Cache, System, Data, Internal Storage, Cache, Micro SDCard). But when I try to reboot it there's a msg saying "No OS installed! Are you sure you wish to power off?".
When restarting the phone it just goes back to ASUS IN SERCH OF INCREDIBLE
How can I install the stock ROM or I might even try custom ROMS (any recommendations?). I haven't installed a custom ROM since the Samsung Galaxy II days so I'm a complete noob again.
I have two Rom in the Internal Memory, one Asus stock and one of LianogenOS 16, but when trying to install, in both they give me the same error, MD5 NOT FOUND
I have copied the two ROMs into a micro SD, but it is not shown with the TWRT File Explorer
I am trying to send a ROM to Internal Memory with ADB push from Minimal Adb but it gives me an error.
Maybe I could install an .img ROM from Fastboot Mode?
Where can I find any?
Thanks for your help.
