hi,
I have recently received the Kitkat 4.4 OTA download for Kitkat for my Galaxy S4. Having heard issues with the SDcard access by certain apps, I would prefer to remain on Jellybean 4.3. However, having received the firmware downloaded onto my S4, I keep getting reminders to update my firmware every 3 hours (maximum that I can delay it).
Is there a way to delete the downloaded Kitkat 4.4 firmware? I don't have much space on my S4 internal storage and I would like to remove it as well as the irritating notifications. My S4 is not rooted.
Thanks for any help!
You can't delete it, but u can disable for no receive notifications about. Go to Menu Settings- More - About device - System update and untick there: "Automatic Update" and "Only Wi-fi" and reboot ur phone :highfive:

Thanks for the advice, but I have already done that and the notification remains intact.

My Note 4 SM-N910G is already successfully rooted...Am wondering how I can disable the OTA updates. Read for earlier Galaxy models that the trick is to freeze SDM.apk using Titanium Backup, but I couldn't find the SDM.apk, even using ES File Explorer it wasn't in >system>app folder.
Anyone knows if it's under a different file name in Note 4 or alternative methods?
I think when you root mean you auto disable ota

I still received the notification that a new firmware was available and downloaded, not sure if it was before I rooted or after. Can you confirm that?
I thought you can disable it by going to settings - about device- software update- uncheck automatic software update

Must say I didn't think about this option at all, so simple & without even rooting. Thanks so much!

That's great! Since we can't ota after root, really no point receiving update notifications. Thanks for confirming that!
My pleasure
Before I rooted, I got a notification that update software has been downloaded, asking me to install the update.
I've gone into "System Update" and unchecked the options for updates, however the update notification persists. On my Galaxy S4, when I would long press on the notification, it would display "app info" button, when I pressed that I'd see the option to uncheck notifications.
I still see that same app info but the option to "Force Stop", "Turn Off" or uncheck "Show Notifications" is ghosted out, not allowing me to uncheck notifications.
Any suggestions for a fix to prevent accidentally updating?
I was able to use the "ignore" option a month or so back but now the only option for the update is to "install later" and give a time. I do not want the update since I am rooted and this update will no doubt remove my root and install bloatware.
How can I permanently remove/block this notification and get on with my life until 5.0 is released?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

I haven't tried this yet but this should get rid of it, at least until the phone reboots:
1. Long press on the "Software update available" notice in the notification bar.
2. Select App info
3. Force stop SDM
If I can't find a confirmed way to root my Verizon Note 3 after updating to 4.4.4, I'm going to do this as well.

Thanks. I'll see how long this lasts. Hate to give up root for nothing in return but bloatware....
Sadly, SDM almost immediately restarted and continued to annoy. Since I'm pretty sure there's no way to root the Verizon Note 3 yet, I just froze the SDM app using Titanium.
"Software Update" option doesn't exist. Stock AT&T G2, rooted, Jelly Bean.
Hopefully this is just a really quick question...
I never updated my phone ever since it came out two years ago, so it's been on Jelly Bean.
I decide to update today but the option for 'Software Update' under 'About phone' isn't there. Neither is 'Update Center' in the settings menu.
I don't remember exactly what I did when I first got my phone, but I do know that it's rooted and is on the stock ROM. I've read that rooting shouldn't affect OTA updates, so I'm kind of confused about why this option doesn't exist. I thought that even if it was never pushed to my phone, the option should still exist in the menu?
Also, flashing firmware or doing anything that would wipe my phone isn't an option I would consider.
Thanks for any help.

Won't that flash my firmware and clear all my data? Not an option I'm willing to consider at all.
I have an i9505 device that is on stock rom and kernel. Never been flashed with other roms or has had any other kernels or recoveries ever installed. Has been rooted twice. I wish to temporarily disable the root to update via OTA. Is this possible? I do not wish to update via KIES or install via ODIN. I run the stock lollipop update.

No. Rooting your device means change the OFFICIAL state of your device to MODIFIED.
You should follow this steps:
1- (Being rooted now) Use the Triangle Away APP for change the device state of CUSTOM to OFFICIAL.
2- Backup your intenal data and factory reset your device:
- From your home screen press the apps icon in the lower right corner.
- Find and press the settings icon.
- In the upper end of the screen press the accounts tab.
- in the bottom of the next screen press the Backup and reset button.
- Press the factory data reset.
- Read the info on your cell phone screen and hit Reset device.
3- I think you will be able to receive OTA Updates then.
Some time ago , when i had KitKat on my I9505 , beeing rooted ,i've managed to change the phone status from MODIFIED ti OFFICIAL with Xposed app. After doing this it started to recive updates via OTA without doing anything else. The problem back then was that i've also had installde TW recovery so...the update downloaded itself but it couldn't install.
In your case i guess it is enough to get the phone status to show OFFICIAL...
Edit : what i forgot to say is that Xposed doesn-t work on official 5.0.1 so ..you'll have to find another method for getting OFFICIAL status.
935FD, Rooted, TWRPed on old firmware. I keep getting OTA Software (Firmware) Update available popping up all the time. I'm traveling at the moment and can NOT update and risk bricking my phone. (Since I'm rooted, I can't do OTA update, have to either use ODIN or FlashFire). Is there a way to stop the message popping up? It is really annoying! (I already disabled "Download updates automatically" in the "About Device" in "Settings".
Many thanks!
Do you have Scheduled Software updates on?
Apart form that, no idea how to disable.
What you could do, is use android to suppress it.
Wait for the notification to appear, Pull the drawer down and Keep hold of the notification.
hit the Hide / Mute icon and it should no longer appear.
As reassurance you cannot apply the update if you are rooted. It checks for official or modified, and will fail on its first check.
So dont worry, any accidental presses will not make the update happen
have you tried "triangle away" in the app store?
