935FD, Rooted, TWRPed on old firmware. I keep getting OTA Software (Firmware) Update available popping up all the time. I'm traveling at the moment and can NOT update and risk bricking my phone. (Since I'm rooted, I can't do OTA update, have to either use ODIN or FlashFire). Is there a way to stop the message popping up? It is really annoying! (I already disabled "Download updates automatically" in the "About Device" in "Settings".
Many thanks!
Do you have Scheduled Software updates on?
Apart form that, no idea how to disable.
What you could do, is use android to suppress it.
Wait for the notification to appear, Pull the drawer down and Keep hold of the notification.
hit the Hide / Mute icon and it should no longer appear.
As reassurance you cannot apply the update if you are rooted. It checks for official or modified, and will fail on its first check.
So dont worry, any accidental presses will not make the update happen
have you tried "triangle away" in the app store?

This is the first smart phone I have ever had the enjoyment of using. I intend to root the phone so that I can get rid of the junk I don't want and enable the features that should be included on my phone.
My question, what do I have to do to not be forced into an OTA update? When I go to the Update menu setting I see no option to ignore updates. Also, is there a setting to not get notified of the updates? Like I had a required OTA voicemail update that I am unsure of how to ignore. Thanks
As far as i know the voicemail update should be fine. From wgat ive read its just to have voicemail to text. Jyst dont check for updates. If they come up automatically it usually asjs if you wan it

You cannot ignore the voicemail update. It adds text-to-speech and is mandatory for all Sprint handsets with VVM. There is a way to shut off the updates under settings/about phone I believe, I haven't gotten mine turned on yet, just got it minutes ago, I'll edit with more specifics if you need.

You will be prompted to do an OTA and if you are a custom rom you will not even get the prompt. However, if you end up wanting the OTA you will have to revert to complete stock. Any removed stock apps can potentially screw up the update process. Generally though its just fine to wait until the devs cook up something with the update and then just use their releases. If it is a necessary update someone will release it in the form of a flashable zip and you won't need to worry about updating OTA =)
Turning off OTA's
way back when before I rooted my hero I had to go through the hassle of reverting to a previous android version in order to root because i naively accepted the OTA update. Trying to avoid this on my shift.
I went into "settings" -> "system updates" -> "HTC software updates" and unchecked the box for "Scheduled Check".
Is this enough to turn off my OTA updates or would the update come from Sprint and have nothing to do with HTC updates?
hi,
I have recently received the Kitkat 4.4 OTA download for Kitkat for my Galaxy S4. Having heard issues with the SDcard access by certain apps, I would prefer to remain on Jellybean 4.3. However, having received the firmware downloaded onto my S4, I keep getting reminders to update my firmware every 3 hours (maximum that I can delay it).
Is there a way to delete the downloaded Kitkat 4.4 firmware? I don't have much space on my S4 internal storage and I would like to remove it as well as the irritating notifications. My S4 is not rooted.
Thanks for any help!
You can't delete it, but u can disable for no receive notifications about. Go to Menu Settings- More - About device - System update and untick there: "Automatic Update" and "Only Wi-fi" and reboot ur phone :highfive:

Thanks for the advice, but I have already done that and the notification remains intact.
Can't take the constant nag screen to update much more...
I was able to use the "ignore" option a month or so back but now the only option for the update is to "install later" and give a time. I do not want the update since I am rooted and this update will no doubt remove my root and install bloatware.
How can I permanently remove/block this notification and get on with my life until 5.0 is released?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

I haven't tried this yet but this should get rid of it, at least until the phone reboots:
1. Long press on the "Software update available" notice in the notification bar.
2. Select App info
3. Force stop SDM
If I can't find a confirmed way to root my Verizon Note 3 after updating to 4.4.4, I'm going to do this as well.

Thanks. I'll see how long this lasts. Hate to give up root for nothing in return but bloatware....
Sadly, SDM almost immediately restarted and continued to annoy. Since I'm pretty sure there's no way to root the Verizon Note 3 yet, I just froze the SDM app using Titanium.
This is my mom's Verizon S5. It was previously rooted, but not anymore. I don't remember how I removed root, but it was simple and people online assured me that it would be easy and my phone would, for all intents and purposes, be like it was never rooted. It's on v4.4.2.
It keeps prompting to update. It downloads the update and prompts me to install. I tap to install, the phone restarts, and then a notification says "Verizon software update. Software update failed." When I tap that, a message says "Software update unsuccessful. Sorry, there was a problem updating your SAMSUNG SM-G900V. No changes were made." There is no more information. It keep prompting to update and repeats the same issue.
When I search, the information doesn't make much sense. I see complicated suggestions like flashing ROMs, Odin, using Kies, etc. I don't understand why all that is necessary.
I'm hoping to prevent my phone from taking updates in case a root exploit is found (but then quickly patched by VZ). I've disabled updates in the developer options (Settings/About Phone/Software Info/Build Number - click 7 times to enable developer options menu / developer options menu / Automatic system updates set to off).
I did that the other day and that was after taking the first "performance" OTA which had already downloaded/installed.
I figured that would do the trick however and hour ago I had my phone sitting on my desk connected to my PC via USB and when I picked it up there was a note saying something about my phone had been updated(?). Maybe it was just a notification I hadn't gotten from the first one somehow popping late but I'm kinda confused.. And this was a message about a system update (I should have screenshotted it or read it more my first thought was **** did I not toggle that developer option correctly....but I had). It was the message saying you may want to reboot as it may have drained the battery on your phone.
I'm on Software: VS99511A
Config: B16.LGE.VS995.0
Build NRD90M

I noticed in Application manager if I show system I can see 2 "System Updates" and I'm guess those are what kicked on and did something while I wasn't paying attention. Can those be disabled? One of them has an advanced permission for "Modify system settings" which I toggled to "no" cause I figured at worst that would just cause an error. The other I can only force stop and then disable but when I attempt to do that it warns me that doing so would hide it and I'm afraid I might not be able to relocate it/re-enable it (w/o a factory reset?) and that could be a serious problem
How is everyone else in the "hoping root come relatively soon" boat handling updates?
Thanks for any discussion/suggestions....

In developer options there is disable automatic system updates. I like that feature.
Edit: sorry. I reread and saw you saw that. I had recently found that.
I'm still on 10b I disabled in the dev section and I get the constant you need to update but hasn't done it auto thankfully

Any idea how to get past a at&t v20 that has updates already trying to install? Flash a new ROM or maybe a factory reset? BTW its already rooted but I forgot to disable the OTA updates. Thanks. EDIT: Nevermind. Just did a wipe on dalvik and cache, which took care of the problem.
Freezing System updates 1_15_10_0 and System updates 1_16_02_0 using Titanium Backup (this requires root), will stop those messages. It was nearly the same set of processes for the V10.
I've also seen a recommendation to freeze FOTA Update 7.0, and a method using the phone's hidden menu.
I'm not addressing rootless options since this message was posted a month and half before me2151's DirtySanta bootloader and root guide was released, that's no longer an issue.
I'm on 10m and recently rooted. I cannot find 1_15_10_0...I found the other file and successfully froze it. I've also frozen the FOTA Update. I tried accessing the hidden menu, but I get an error message. On 10m, is there a 1_15_10_0?
EDIT: Sorry for digging such a long-dead thread. Didn't see the more recent one that's also active.
Hey guys I know this is OT but is it true that the v20 from Verizon is unlocked and can work with any other sim?
