Hello, I bought this used Galaxy S4 I9505 recently. My thread is about the S4 camera. The problem is whenever I switch to front camera, the app freezes for a while and then the dialog "Camera Failed" pop up. And it won't work again even after I restarted the app. I have to do " Force Stop " & " clear data " from application manager so the app can start normally ( FOR THE BACK CAMERA OF COURSE ).
My issue in a few words: The back camera works perfectly but whenever I switch to front camera, the app freezes and then says "Camera failed". I have to do "Clear data" to make the back camera work again.
-- For hardware, I changed both ( rear & front ) camera. And they were 100% original that were removed from another device.
I tried every damn thing like "wipe data/factory reset" or "wipe cache". And changed the firmware many times. Still the same problem.
Also I know a friend who has the same problem on Galaxy Note 2 N7100!
And another friend who has the same damn thing on Galaxy Note 3 N9005!!
My experience made me sure that this is a hardware problem and cannot be fixed without changing the main board. But that did not prevent me from posting this thread so I can hear any advice from you guys here in XDA.

I'm suffering the same issue + randomly getting SIM removed message so I guess it's a mainboard issue sadly ?

Are you sure your sim is in good condition? + See if the sim connectors are 100% fine ( those small golden ledges where you plug in the sim card )
And you should try using another sim card if you haven't done so.

I bought a new Galaxy s2 this week and I have been really pleased with it, except for one thing: when I want to open the camera app I get the following error( and after the app shuts down): "Warning: camera failed" .
I have already tried a factory reset, but with no results.
Then, after I rooted the phone and installed lightning rom on it in the hope there was a software problem that should be helped. but again no results.
When I for example want to make a video call using skype, it works great with the front facing cam. However when I switch to back camera the screen freezes.
So, I am starting to get the feeling that the problem lies with the hardware.. although I am not sure.
Is there anyone who knows what might be the problem? And if the phone should be sent back?

Unfortunately this DOES sound like a hardware error. Your best bet would be to return to stock (and get a jig to reset the binary counter) and send it back to Samsung.

Hello! some days before this trouble phone ideos x5 start sometimes to work very slow. And suddenly camera did not want to start "it is not possible to connect camera". i dont remember that phone fall or something like this. Because of it i think that there is a soft problem.
I made "wipe" (vol+ and power) and reload system - but camera does not want to start.
I dont want to give it to service center. because it can take till 45 days to make repair on garantee - i need a phone and camera for work! Please help!

A wipe doesn't always do the trick. Have you tried a different camera app?
Also, you could try a different ROM.

May be somebady have some test for camera.? Is it a soft problem or hardware?
I removed the camera, reload phone and start camera application without camera - there was the same mistake. Now i have camera inserted in socket - nothing...
Do somebody know what model camera? i can not find it through internet. may be other camera (from other phone) can be inserted?
Have you even contacted the tech-support of your brand?

Yes. I talked with Huawei servise center in Moscow. They want my phone for uncertain time - till 45 days!

Did you accually open up the phone and physically remove the camera from the motherboard? Would say that voids your warranty...
Anyway it sounds like a hardware problem...
I can not wait for 45 days. they should order camera. And the will give phone or many back if they do not recieve camera from Huawei.
I want to try repair myself. without garantee
Are you sure this isnt a ROM problem? if you have 2.3.5 you probably have installed the BETA relese from Huawei which has a lot of bugs..
I cannot really believe that you removed the actual camera part from the board..
Please try a different,custom,ROM such as CM7 or MIUI from the forum and try again..

There is a soccet for camera. It is possibale to remove camera and insirt back it without unscrewing.
It is not Rom problem - it started when in previos (factory 2.2.1) ROM.
And now i can not find in Moscow new (or used) camera for replacment.
And i have a litle hope - my be somebody tell me about some magician key to start camera.)

Repairing hardware yourself comes with the risk of breaking things you didn't intend to.

hello ! i have same problem! camera don't start with error. Started on official 2.2.2 (136 firmware), then upgrade to official 2.3.5 (beta2 -518), error is present. And flashlight not worked to.
Try a different ROM. I've seen people with the same problem and after changing ROM was working.
If you dont solve the problem must be the hardware problem, but try another ROM, it's easy to tempt
Does anyone know of a way to remove the proximity sensor drivers or shut it off completely my screen just goes black during a call and i need to use the keypad during calls i have tried all the proximity apps on market and it has no effect, have tried calibration etc odin firmware updates to the point i killed my phone just got it back from repair and was told it needs a new chip to rectify the problem.
I have spent weeks going through forums for a solution and i know on my brothers sgs 2 it has a setting in the menu to turn it off.
This seems to be a common problem with no resolve so im looking for someone to resolve this problem and make alot of people happy.
We all no As these phones age this will be more and more common.
Techies get ur teeth into this or even software writers make An app n earn some cash,
This would b a great ego booster for someone to say i solved that when no one in the world could.

Maybe this sounds stupid but why don't you just press the home button while you call. Screen will turn on again and you can access keypad or speaker or whatever. This takes only seconds...

if your phone screen goes black but does not become visible again when you move the phone from head (proximity sensor got two states 1 and 0) you either have badly flashed firmware or faulty sensor. for the first you can try reflshing to LATEST (unrooted) stock firmware from samsung and then checking again if your bug persist but for second only thing you can do is to return phone on warranty to service center.
anyways no app is needed for that. should work without any.
Hi thanks for the suggestions phone is in a crash state until force close happens so force close won't work pressing the home key or any other for that matter.
As like many i brought my phone second hand and although i have loads of Samsung kit registered with them Im an engineer and look to solve things in the future when warranties have long expired.

I have googled the problem and i don't seem to be the only person with the fault.
Someone has written an app to kill drivers but don't know where the driver is for the proxy and its a new program with hardly any testing done so not sure if it will have any other adverse effects and killed my phone once already that's why Im asking more expert advice as Im fairly new to android os.

hello, I bought this device used and it worked just fine for at least 1 month, then this problem started, the message SIM removed appears randomly and i have to reboot and sometimes it even boots like with no SIM, I replaced the SIM module and it's still the same. The front camera also started failing randomly so I guess it's somehow related, thinking of a motherboard issue

Get it to repair in one official center :highfive:
First of all try a factory reset then check if problem persist then take your device to service centre because it's under warranty.
Hi guys, i recently changed the front camera of my galaxy s5 with a new one, but for unknown reasons it doesn't work, it gives me "server error, restart the camera". If three different cameras haven't fixed it, try reflashing, if that doesn't do it then look elsewhere at the hardware cause the camera itself clearly isn't it.

Any suggestions about it? Because I tried a lot to do different things, cleaning the hardware parts (so it isn't a dust problem) and carefully plugging in the flat, I just can't imagine what could be the problem. And are you sure that it couldn't be a software problem? Is there any way to verify that? Because I tried the *#34971539# code and the camera is read so maybe it works eventually, but the software is not.

If you reflashed and it didn't do ot I'm almost certain it isn't a software problem. No clue where to look for the hardware issue, sorry :/
