I bought today a USB OTG cable and it works perfectly with 2 of my 3 USB sticks. The 3rd one just won't mount, when I connect the stick it shows me it was connected but nothing else happens.
Unfortunately I don't have a PC to test the USB stick or something, I really need to access the data via. USB OTG with my phone.
I'm on a stick unrooted KitKat if that helps.

No notification pops up, my phone just doesnt seem to recognize the cable. Any reason? I was told the xoom camera kit cable would work for otg usb.
hello? can somebody help?
nobody? okay...coool
You'll need external power to power it

its a pendrive, which should work unplugged. It just doesnt seem to even recognize that its there. Do you think the cable is defective?
In the usb otg tutorial video in the accessories section it shows that plugging in the cable without anything attached to it should trigger a notification. If it doesn't, it's probably the cable

okay, I guess the motorola xoom cable does not work for some stupid reason. Or its defective...well ****.
I guess, it's missing a resistor to trigger OTG mode.

in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092493&highlight=usb+otg+resistor) you'll find detailed instructions on what makes one cable work and another one fail. apparently, you'd have to open the micro usb plug and connect pin 4 and 5. the connection between pin 4 and 5 determine, what kind of connection it is: charging, sync, usb otg, mhl, trigger download mode... and indeed, that is done by putting in different resistor strengths.
I got one of these, only £2.50 shipped and works perfectly, its great fun plugging in a mouse!
I have 2 otg cables one for my nexus 7 one for my S3 both cables work in both devices and i have a male to male usb cable, question is how can i get them to see each other so i can do direct transfer instead of using a usb drive or computer?? Can it be done??

First, have you tried to transfer content wirelessly between the two devices? That would bypass the need to use cables. You can use app's like ES File Explorer on the Nexus 7 to access other devices on the local network. Not familiar with the S3, but if it can access the wireless network its possible there may be settings to allow one to access the S3 from other wireless devices.
Second, to connect the two devices together via their respective USB-OTG cables you would most likely need to have a male type A to male type A USB adapter. Here is one example. The next problem is going to be how each device see's the other once connected. With some cell phones one has to put them into USB mode so other devices will see and mount the cell phone's storage.
Wireless works fine, just wanted to see if it could be done via cable also ive got the right cables they just dont see each other, unplug it n connect a flash drive and see's it so im guessing its not going to be simple.

On my non smart phone I have to put the phone into USB Mass Storage mode for the PC or my Nexus 7 to view and mount the storage space.
If your using a Samsung Galaxy S3, it may not support mass storage mode. But there is an app called USB Mass Storage APK, creates by a XDA Developed that may work. See this link for more info...

Now that looks like the kind of app i need on my S3 thank you very much.... I best go and root my S3 again lol.

I'm thinking you would only want to use one OTG adapter when doing this. You want one of the devices to be the flash drive for the other. The one that will be controlling the session gets an OTG adapter and you connect the second device using a normal USB-to-MicroUSB cable. From the second device's perspective, it is being attached to a PC.
I use stickmount on my rooted N7 and put my HTC Sensation into USB storage mode. Then the N7 sees the HTC as a mounted folder.
I use a OTG lead in the N7 and a standard A to micro-B lead from that to the HTC.
I haven't used it the other way around, as the N7 doesn't have a Mass Storage mode.
I have an otg cable, yet none of my accessories work with it and my RAZR MAXX. My question is whether or not I need a powered hub when using the OTG cable. I have seen set ups of other android models using a SIXAXIS controller and otg cable, yet no hub. In this case, it the powered hub not needed since the controller itself is supplying its own power?
Thanks,

USB controllers don't work?? I'm interested in this as well

Download USB Device Info:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=aws.apps.usbDeviceEnumerator
When you open the app you should see 0 devices under Android and Linux tabs. Now connect just your OTG cable nothing plugged into it and hit refresh, something should show up, usually under the Linux tab that identifies the USB host. Even if the USB host doesn't supply power this will still work as I have tested it on my Touchpad which has no OTG power.
If you saw something appear when you connected the OTG cable, than OTG is in the Razr M. Now try connecting your gamepad and refresh the device list. If its not showing up then there is either something wrong with OTG or you need external power. This program will ID any USB device connected, even those which Android doesn't support since its just matching the device against a list it has. Try getting a USB keyboard/mouse working ad those are universally supported on Android and would confirm if USB host works.
Questions go in the question forum too...
Here's a dumb question. I just ordered a female USB to male micro USB. I wanted to be able to yank pics off my camera and drop them on my phone. Would I need an OTG adapter or does that plane adapter work?

An OTG cable has a extra pin in it that is tied to ground in a OTG cable which tells the hardware to switch to OTG mode. A regular USB cable will leave this pin open.
If I'm able to peel open this adapter that I got, and jump pin 4 to 5 should it work as an OTG cable?

Its possible, as shown here:
http://tech2.in.com/how-to/accessor...sb-otg-cable-for-an-android-smartphone/319982
For me I'd rather just buy an OTG cable, but if you have regular microUSB cables laying around, go for it.
Bought an OTG cable
Bought a simple OTG adapter from newegg. So far....plugged in a mouse and my camera. Both work flawlessly, my camera gives me the choice of either either MTP (?) that goes straight to gallery and image import, or Storage which prompts to a new usb mount. Have not tried a gamepad yet, I have 2 floating around somewhere but not sure what game to try.
Hi,
Received my N4 this morning and also received my OTG adapter/cable.
However, when plugging the cable and adapter into the N4, it doesnt pick up that anything has been plugged in.
I've unlocked the bootloader and rooted it, and installed 'USB OTG Helper' - When attempting to mount using this, I get the error 'Mount: No Devices Found!'
I plug the OTG adapter into my friend's SII and it's picked up straight away..
Am I missing something?
Le bump
no go for me either
i have tried
-stickmount
-usb mass storage watcher
-usb host controller
-usb otg helper
[edit] -nexus media importer
"usb mass storage watcher OTG" says it will soon support 4.2

What have you tried to plug into the USB adapter?
I have an micro SD to USB adapter. It works fine in other phones..

yup
This is a TWRP problem. Happened to gnex when switching to 4.2. I'm sure team win or someone will address it soon.
The Nexus 4 does not support USB OTG, apparently it's because the phone does not supply 5v to the microUSB port so it cannot power connected devices.
Yeah as the user said above, otg doesn't work on N4 its a complete shambles from Google/LG hopefully in time they can get it operational. I had the same on my HTC One X with earlier builds but now it's working with the latest update.

Has Anyone tired this with an externally powered USB hub??
My previous Droid Razr had this same problem and it had a simple fix
All i needed to do was get the OTG cable An externally powered usb hub...thats it...and it all worked fine given that the power was turned on in the hub..and it charged the phone aswell..
can anyone try this with their Nexus 4
im thinking of getting one..and i need OTG..even with external power..
Hi.
I have a otg cable and USB storage device and I can't use it on my s4 , when plugging in the otg it says USB connector connected. But when I connect an USB drive to it it says nothing and I can't get in the otg. It worked on my note 2 but people say the problem is the mhl 2.0 but the note 2 has the same mhl 2.0
Please help me.

I don't understand what is this detectable otg cable you are talking about. I have simple cheap converter from microusb to normal usb. This converter is not detected by itself by the phone. I just use it to plug pendrive to phone's microusb and everything works. GT-I9505
