Device Manager - Windows 8 General

When I click on Device Manager from the Control panel it freezes. Anyone else seen this problem?
Thanks
Jim

Nope. I use Device Manager all the time. Can you be more specific, please? What Control Panel view are you using? Is it the DM that's freezing, or the CP, or the entire OS? Does this happen if you launch DM directly, for example from Start search or from the Win+X (right-click-on-Start-button) menu? Does this happen with other MMC plug-ins, like Services or Disk Management?
EDIT: Oh, and what version of Windows are you running?

I also use it very frequently without issue, with it being shortcut from win-X its the quickest way of confirming COM numbers.

I am starting Device Manager by Control panel then click on Device Manager. Device Manager then starts but before it lists anything in the box it freezes. Just Device Manager box freezes. I have Windows 8.1. This is the only thing I know of that freezes. I'm not near my computer but I will try the other services.

8125 Slide-Out Keyboard

I can be on this website, or any other, and EVERY time I slide out the keyboard, instantly my device closes the websites and go back to the Today screen! This is a replacement 8125 because the one I had replaced did the same thing, and now this one is doing it, too.Any info please!HELP!Cingular 8125ROM 2.25.11.1
Did you install any additional software on the device?
Does it close everything on your device or does it only shut down the Internet Explorer? You can check if it was clsed completely in START -> SETTINGS -> SYSTEM -> MEMORY - Please open another application and then start IE, slide out the keyboard and check if all running programs were closed or only minimized.
My first question would be about any additional software that's been installed, too. I've never had that problem with my 8125 and can't replicate it, either -- by using the ActiveSync passthrough connection, EDGE/GPRS or WiFi.
What third party software do you have installed??

Actually after closing from the internet, it does go back to the Today screen no matter what I open from the start menu. Settings or Programs will not stay and the internet was minimized. I have several 3rd party apps installed. How do I know which one/s are giving me this problem?Cingular 8125ROM 2.25.11.1
List what software you're using so we can do a comparison and see which one might be the offending program. It's either that, or uninstall them one at a time to check it out.

After doing a soft re-set to fix, I opened file explorer which is factory installed, and not 3rd party, then I opened the internet back to here, slid out the keyboard, and the device still converted to its landscape mode and went back to the Today screen, and nothing when tapped stayed on. Do I need to uninstall everything and re-try the keyboard? It has to be somewhere in the keyboard, because I slid out the keyboard from the Today screen, nothing was opened, pushed the keyboard back in, tapped on settings in the start menu..did not stay, went back to the Today screen. I pushed the red phone hardware button out of curiosity, and was able to have settings or whatever to stay on after that.If I don't slide out the keyboard, the device works fine.Cingular 8125ROM 2.25.11.1
Just out of curiosity -- how much storage memory and program memory do you have??

20MB of each.I have 85% of everything on my 512MB storage card.
use Task manager, or Move 3rd party application to your SD card
You can try by moving all your third party application to your sd card(one thing you have to remap your registry setting to the new location). Then switch off your phone, remove the sd card and then switch on the phone. now almost your 3d party application are stoppped. while on it will give some link not found error. in My cases when ever i am facing problem with 3rd party application i am doing this, But this is at your own risk.
One oter method. Install Batery Pack Pro. With Which you can see the minimized process In the top by taping downward arrow.(if the process minimized)(This one you have to buy.It is not Freeeeeee )
Or Use Task manager with which you can activate the minimized window.
My optionis 3 or 2 one.
Well,
I would do a hard reset on my device, then installing every single application step by step and check afterwards if internet will work before I install the next one! That seems to be the only way to figure out what application causes the problem!
A soft reset won't really help because of some programs start with the device or at least they start some services!
If you can safely back up your device I would say go for it and try to find that app what screws up your device! After you located the program do not install it anymore but try to find a similar program what does the same job! Nobody wants to have faulty apps on his device! And if it does something like shutting down your running programs ... - ... who knows what else it does!
BTW: It could be a 'non-really-harmful' virus which might stick in one of your apps ... depending on where you downloaded your programs from! Since you have exactly the same issues like on your previous model ...
After a lot of troubleshooting, I discovered a 3rd party software called Today Player by MBRO, found at FreeCabs.de had the virus that gave me this problem. I re-installed the other programs I un-installed, and now my 8125 is working like it's supposed to do. THIS IS A WARNING.. I WOULD NOT INSTALL TODAY PLAYER BY MBro. if I were you! I want to thank everyone that took their time and concern to help. You're a bunch of great guys!!Cingular 8125ROM 2.25.11.1
I think your initial post gave us all a clue that it would be software-related -- especially since this was a replacement for a phone that did the exact same thing.
Glad you were able to isolate the problem!!!

Yeah,
and I wouldn't even say that it is a virus (unless you downloaded it from emule or so?) - can also be a 'dirty programming': people write an application, test it on a WM5 PPC and it works fine, so, they go ahead and release it for all WM5 and higher. The main thing they often forget, is, to write a clean code following the Windows API!

Hidden apps and connection status

After searching both here and on google I have not found anything so I'm hoping some of you may be able to help me out with two minor annoyances.
I have noticed that several applications can run without showing up in the task manger (both dutty and the regular one).
Is there a way to see and/or close these applications?
I have WorldMate installed and even though I have disabled auto updates it still connects. So my second question is this:
Is there a way to see what applications are using a data connection (preferably the exact executable)?
Thanks in advance!
I think the standard HTC one (included with the phone) is able to shut down more, but l'm not sure about your problems.
If you have a search through the apps section then i think I've seen something in there that tells you what is using your data (data monitor of some sort?)
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Owen.
in standard task manager click menu view processes to see lots more of what is running.

Application closing automatically......only happens to me??

I found a strange behaviour in HD2.....or maybe in WM6.5.
When I open up a few applications, let the machine go to suspend mode, and then I turn it on again, I can see all applications there (with wmtask bar).
When I unlock the machine, some applications closed automatically (most common is IE, and a pocket dictionary).
While I'm watching movie, I need to lookup dictionary (poor English), everytime I turn on HD2, I need to load the dictionary again, again and again.
Also, after I login to ebanking to check stock price, and after a while I turn on the machine again, IE closed......I need to login again, again and again!
What's the problem? Can I control which application cannot be closed automatically? My HD2 sure have enough RAM (sometime I just open 2 applications!).
Please help...........
This is normal, wm closes apps itself to clean memory. No solution yet. Soft reset may help temporary, and running less apps in background. When you search you will find more topics on this.

[BUGTRACKER] Bugs/Compatibility Issues in Windows 8

This thread is NOT for asking questions on how to install Windows 8 or make incompatible software compatible, it is to list bugs you have found.
Well, simple. List of bugs/compatibility issues you've found in Windows 8.
1. Compatibility Issue: CNET TechTracker does not work, gives error about it's side-by-side configuration being incorrect.
2. Bug: While I haven't experienced this one, I read about it in #windows on Freenode (an IRC network): Apparently, if click near the start button, it may lock up for about 15 seconds.
3. Bug: Metro apps can only be completely closed by task manager, any other way and they're only suspended.
For some reason avg internet security doesn't want to finish installing on W8. Tried many times it kept saying "error" at the end. I haven't tried any other antivirus yet.

Not a bug. The OS will close them as needed.
Just hold back to- oh wait it isn't Android, never mind.
Here's what I've found:
1. Trying to click "Continue" to gain access to a folder results in the pop-up disappearing and Explorer continuing to "wait" for continue to be pressed.
2. As above, Metro apps cannot be closed except through Task Manager. While they're suspended, they still use RAM.
3. Need to try to reproduce this one, but adding a shortcut to the start screen through Explorer (right-click and select "Pin to Start Screen" results in not only the app not showing up but the "user info" in the upper-right corner of the start screen to become half-hidden. Screenshot of this once I boot back to Windows 8, assuming the issue still exists.

windows defender should do the job now it has virus protection.
If you need it try compatibly mode
I feel like these sorts of threads aren't really relevant until a beta release of some sort.

Best Drivers for Razr

The windows drivers I use.. (I think I got e'm from Motorola's site) constantly prompt me for permissions to access the phone when I plug it in to windows...
They bring up some stupid IE URL for Verizon "backup assistant plus" and video..
So what drivers can you use with the XT907 etc. that justs allows you to transfer files etc. with no headache? (ohh yah and these drivers bring up stupid extra prompts for file transfers)
So were clear to what I have... it shows Motorola Mobility LLC v6.3.0 in "programs" the Device Manager shows 2.4.5
bump.
super bump!
You should be able to see your phone in My Computer. Just treat it like a usb or external drive.
The drivers work in the background. They're not an actual application.

It's because you have the software set to automatically attempt a backup of your data when connected to a computer. All you need to do is find the program in your task bar and disable the auto backup setting.

Yep, that helped a lot hard to believe it was that easy or stupid.. but I still don't like the prompts the Motorola still brings up.. but yah the good news is I don't have a webpage opening every time I plug in my phone
I'm able to uninstall the annoying Moto program but keep the drivers with Win 8.
