8125 Slide-Out Keyboard - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I can be on this website, or any other, and EVERY time I slide out the keyboard, instantly my device closes the websites and go back to the Today screen! This is a replacement 8125 because the one I had replaced did the same thing, and now this one is doing it, too.Any info please!HELP!Cingular 8125ROM 2.25.11.1

Did you install any additional software on the device?
Does it close everything on your device or does it only shut down the Internet Explorer? You can check if it was clsed completely in START -> SETTINGS -> SYSTEM -> MEMORY - Please open another application and then start IE, slide out the keyboard and check if all running programs were closed or only minimized.

My first question would be about any additional software that's been installed, too. I've never had that problem with my 8125 and can't replicate it, either -- by using the ActiveSync passthrough connection, EDGE/GPRS or WiFi.
What third party software do you have installed??

Actually after closing from the internet, it does go back to the Today screen no matter what I open from the start menu. Settings or Programs will not stay and the internet was minimized. I have several 3rd party apps installed. How do I know which one/s are giving me this problem?Cingular 8125ROM 2.25.11.1

List what software you're using so we can do a comparison and see which one might be the offending program. It's either that, or uninstall them one at a time to check it out.

After doing a soft re-set to fix, I opened file explorer which is factory installed, and not 3rd party, then I opened the internet back to here, slid out the keyboard, and the device still converted to its landscape mode and went back to the Today screen, and nothing when tapped stayed on. Do I need to uninstall everything and re-try the keyboard? It has to be somewhere in the keyboard, because I slid out the keyboard from the Today screen, nothing was opened, pushed the keyboard back in, tapped on settings in the start menu..did not stay, went back to the Today screen. I pushed the red phone hardware button out of curiosity, and was able to have settings or whatever to stay on after that.If I don't slide out the keyboard, the device works fine.Cingular 8125ROM 2.25.11.1

20MB of each.I have 85% of everything on my 512MB storage card.

use Task manager, or Move 3rd party application to your SD card
You can try by moving all your third party application to your sd card(one thing you have to remap your registry setting to the new location). Then switch off your phone, remove the sd card and then switch on the phone. now almost your 3d party application are stoppped. while on it will give some link not found error. in My cases when ever i am facing problem with 3rd party application i am doing this, But this is at your own risk.
One oter method. Install Batery Pack Pro. With Which you can see the minimized process In the top by taping downward arrow.(if the process minimized)(This one you have to buy.It is not Freeeeeee )
Or Use Task manager with which you can activate the minimized window.
My optionis 3 or 2 one.

Well,
I would do a hard reset on my device, then installing every single application step by step and check afterwards if internet will work before I install the next one! That seems to be the only way to figure out what application causes the problem!
A soft reset won't really help because of some programs start with the device or at least they start some services!
If you can safely back up your device I would say go for it and try to find that app what screws up your device! After you located the program do not install it anymore but try to find a similar program what does the same job! Nobody wants to have faulty apps on his device! And if it does something like shutting down your running programs ... - ... who knows what else it does!
BTW: It could be a 'non-really-harmful' virus which might stick in one of your apps ... depending on where you downloaded your programs from! Since you have exactly the same issues like on your previous model ...

After a lot of troubleshooting, I discovered a 3rd party software called Today Player by MBRO, found at FreeCabs.de had the virus that gave me this problem. I re-installed the other programs I un-installed, and now my 8125 is working like it's supposed to do. THIS IS A WARNING.. I WOULD NOT INSTALL TODAY PLAYER BY MBro. if I were you! I want to thank everyone that took their time and concern to help. You're a bunch of great guys!!Cingular 8125ROM 2.25.11.1

I think your initial post gave us all a clue that it would be software-related -- especially since this was a replacement for a phone that did the exact same thing.
Glad you were able to isolate the problem!!!

Yeah,
and I wouldn't even say that it is a virus (unless you downloaded it from emule or so?) - can also be a 'dirty programming': people write an application, test it on a WM5 PPC and it works fine, so, they go ahead and release it for all WM5 and higher. The main thing they often forget, is, to write a clean code following the Windows API!

application idea: make thiefs return my MDA-Pro

Hallo, I have a cool applcation idea that I plan to implement that would probally make thiefes return my MDA-Pro after they stole it.
For that reason I need to be able to run an application or show a clickable screen on the MDA-Pro BEFORE login. That screen is supposed to be shown EVERYTIME the MDA-Pro is turned on. You can only proceed to the login screen from there with a certain keybaord shortcut. Also doing a reset should not disbale this feature. Can that be done some how ? If so how ?
I saw somewhere a password screen that was a picture and you had to click in just the right spot of the picture to gain access. I imagine that your message could be a picture to accomplish this. As for a hard reset solution, you'd have to add it to the ext rom so it would be re-installed automatically.

However, I've stopped using all such programs because they reset your hardware button settings if you're using AEButton Plus or any third party mapper (eg ButtonMax).
I don't think this will get your phone back. I'm writing a program that might though. Working on it, I'll keep you posted. In the mean time, check out IIWPO.

Maybe I should be more specific:
I have already finished an app that does what I want:
It it has a little embedded window showing what the video conference camera currently sees. It displays some fake government info and an animated GPS localisation icon. It has several other little scary acting features (such as a windows that pops up after a short random while, saying "EuroSecure GPS localisation data and video sequence sucessfully transmitted!" ) and the thief can see the adress where the device should be returned too. That application can only be cancelled with a certain keycombination. Now my only problem is getting this application to ALWAYS run BEFORE the login screen.

Now that we have GPS, can someone help me to...

Hey, Everyone,
W/ the advent of havin' GPS on our Titans, I was wonderin' if anyone knew of any anti-theft software. I already have Sprite Terminator, but if the tele's hard-reset, that's purrty much k'poot, y'know? So, I need somethin' that req's a pwd to be hard-reset, but would also allow me to send SMS to the tele' to send its GPS co-ord's, lock device, and/or wipe storage. Sprite Terminator lets me do all, but pwd-protect hard-resets. Also, I use GPS Test v.1.04 to effectively activate GPS (COM4, 4800 Baud, etc.) upon startup, but it opens maximized, and it can just be exited to disable GPS. Does anyone know how to:
1. Open GPS Test @ startup min'd, and
2. Hide GPS Test from task managers (by this I mean memory.exe and QuickMenu (v.2.7, & my task manager of choice)? (I also use CeleTask, so any help w/ hiding GPS Test in "Running Tasks", and Sprite Terminator (SGStartup.exe) from "Running Processes", would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks, and 'hope the RE:s to this post help everyone.

Upon noticing I hadn't gotten any RE:'s yet, I'd realized I could probably just run a MortScript (although, 'not too familiar w/ it) for this operation, right?
::bump::
C'mon, is there really no one interested in this? Wouldn't y'wanna find your tele' if lost, or worse, stolen? ::gasp::
i would love some software like this as well...
much easier then calling your phone when you lose it
and if you ever get in an avalanche or something people can find you easier.

I don't think you read the thread, AstroGPSLauncher cannot be used to access the 6800 remotely. It is a great prog, but only for opening the GPS and keeping it open while you are looking out. It does not transmit a signal that can be tracked.

i know AstroGPSLauncher CANNOT be used remotely...but if it enables the GPS...then the Terminator can send the location etc....btw i still didnt get the terminator trial email so im still waiting for it.
i brought AstroGPSLauncher into the picture because...
Its small - minimal memory/CPU usage
Its always minimized - It always launches in the background...does not let the user know its running
Shortcuts - A user can create a path/shortcut that it will launch itself plus anything else; ie: terminator
True about AstroGPS, I hadn't heard of Terminator; will test. Thanks rbadh91.
tried it

ok it wont work...the phone would technically freeze every time it went into standby when running astrogpslauncher.
unless the terminator program can launch an app when you send a txt msg like it deletes everything upon recieving a certain txt msg
if possible we could send a txt msg and it would launch astrogps...as we all know astrogpslauncher is a small app that runs in the background and not visible to most task managers and does not put strain on the cpu or memory so less chances of phone freezing
it would be doable IF and only IF the program is capable of launching another program
::sigh:: Perhaps you're all missing my point of this thread. I already know that the GPS doesn't stay on while the device is suspended, and initiating the GPS isn't the prob. The prob is that Sprite Terminator doesn't have a hard reset pwd, so you can just hard reset the phone upon finding/stealing it, and then it can't be traced. I initiate my GPS upon startup by copying the GPSTest.lnk to /Windows/StartUp, so my GPS is actually always on, running in the background as long as the device is awake. The prob w/ this is that since I need the GPS initiated in order to track the phone, what am I to do if a thief simply closes the program, in other words, turning off the GPS? That's why I'd like to hide it from task managers. Also, the Sprite Terminator process can be killed (which actually intercepts txts formatted a certain way). In other words, if an idiot steals my tele', chances are I can trace it so I can &(#^in' KILL 'EM for the audacity of disturbing my peace, but if another 933k comes across the tele', he'd just say, "Oh, let me kill this SGStartup.exe process...nah, I'd better just hard reset the phone to be safe," y'dig?
tie the phone to your arm so they can't steal it and you can't lose it.
No, really, though. My thoughts are cooking a gps launching utility into a ROM with it set to auto run (much like astrogps, minimized/invisible). Even if they hard reset it should still have that program on it, set to autorun on startup. So unless they actually KNOW what they're doing, you should be okay.
What? you have gps on the titan?? internally? how?

i agree 100% with that theory...well i've been cooking roms lately and i am currently testing this hard reset thing...so taking what both of you (kain144000 & Psionfenix) are saying and putting it into one solution.
so if we cook the gpslink which kain144000 said into the rom, so whenever someone did a hard reset it would still be there...you can rename the process so it shows as "ppc.exe" or "service.exe" insted of "GPS.EXE"
Now that we have solved the issue of having the GPS running there when we hardreset; the next part is to track it; as for that part im still waiting for the terminator trial so i can cook that into the rom and test it
the terminator trial can be download on their website. if you go to support then terminator theres a download link. for some reason they don't sent the emails. i'm going to try to use the gps test
There was some software I used on the Treo 650 that would intercept a text message containing a specific string and do a variety of different things based on how it was configured. It could lock the device, wipe it, wipe the SD card, and so on.
A perfect program would do something similar, except have the ability to launch AstroGPSLauncher, and some kind of other program like Franson BuddyTracker which will broadcast the current location on a website.
There's a program or whatever depending on what service you have, family finder or something like that, so you can use that to track them.
Get close to where they are, call them up and watch them answer the phone, then bust their skull in for stealing.
For GSM Phones, Not exactly a GPS based system.

Just a few available...Some of those use SMS to send location secretly other are simple friend finders.
But you know if you should ever have your phone stolen your carrier can track it immediatly and alert authorities even without GPS enabled...
Unless you plan on confronting the theif yourself (not really wise) your better off going that route.
But this might be good if you lost your phone and don't remember where....

With mobile phone crime an ever increasing problem, W.I.M.P. offers an advanced phone tracking security system. In the event of your phone being lost or stolen, you can simply send a specially formated SMS text message to the phone and the W.I.M.P software will silently intercept it. W.I.M.P. will then send back a message containing the phone's GPS location in a format which can be entered into any common mapping application.

The only question is whether or not we can get the internal GPS turned on when that text message is intercepted. I just sent off an email to their support email:
The Mogul has internal GPS which is not active all the time, but has
to be turned on. Currently this is done automatically by certain
programs like Google Maps or Live Search when the GPS option is
selected, but other programs like TomTom or iGuidance do not turn the
GPS on automatically and need to use a launcher like AstroGPSLauncher.
Is WIMP able to turn on the GPS like the other programs or, if not,
can the launcher be executed when the special text message is
intercepted?

Application closing automatically......only happens to me??

I found a strange behaviour in HD2.....or maybe in WM6.5.
When I open up a few applications, let the machine go to suspend mode, and then I turn it on again, I can see all applications there (with wmtask bar).
When I unlock the machine, some applications closed automatically (most common is IE, and a pocket dictionary).
While I'm watching movie, I need to lookup dictionary (poor English), everytime I turn on HD2, I need to load the dictionary again, again and again.
Also, after I login to ebanking to check stock price, and after a while I turn on the machine again, IE closed......I need to login again, again and again!
What's the problem? Can I control which application cannot be closed automatically? My HD2 sure have enough RAM (sometime I just open 2 applications!).
Please help...........
This is normal, wm closes apps itself to clean memory. No solution yet. Soft reset may help temporary, and running less apps in background. When you search you will find more topics on this.

T-Mobile Device Tune-up Beta

Hey guys, T-Mobile is implementing a new program with their My Device program for Android devices called Device Tune-up, in beta form. From reading everything, I guess it's essentially another task-killer. I'm going to give it a shot. Anybody else willing to try?
From T-Mo:
Background:
T-Mobile is continually looking for ways to bring new innovation to our customers. Within the My Account application, we are adding new functionality in the My Device section called Device Tune-up. Device Tune-up is built to run in the background at all times and ‘tune-up’ the device by closing unused services that are running.
Device Tune-up is different from most task killers because it does not require you to do anything. Device Tune-up will default to 'on'. While on, Device Tune-up proactively closes services to help the device and battery perform at their best. Most pre-loaded applications will not be affected by Device Tune-up. For our non-technical users, this may mean you never even realize Device Tune-up is running; your device may simply run better.

Does anyone have the APK? They pulled the download for the night.

how can i run this in a non TM devices?and also not a t-mobile user........?
I downloaded this, but it does not allow you to turn off pre-installed apps. That's a major loss and pretty much renders the thing useless. Advanced Task Killer works much better in this department.
I'm going to give it a shot and see if it works okay. I don't use a lot of the apps that are req to stay on and not kill so it may work great for me. I'll see in a day or two.
That's weird I installed it but I don't see the device tune up part anywhere and I'm not on wifi. Also I read this on the download page:
If, after installing the beta, you do not see Device Tune-up on the Quick Tools menu, it means that your device was placed into a control group experience. To opt out of the control group experience and be able to see Device Tune-up, long click on the Phone Info line under Quick Tools tab and choose to ‘opt-out’ of the control group. You will then see Device Tune-up.
I followed the instructions and I long press on the phone info part under quick tools and nothing happens or I don't get any option to opt-out. Anyone else having this issue? Does this app work on nexus one running froyo?

What do you mean? I installed apk manager and all it does is show me all my apps installed. And I do see the myaccount app in installed but there's nothing else to do....did I miss a step?...... Thanks
I got it and installed it through the apk manager as you stated and installed the app but it still doesn't show device tune up or holding long pressing the phone info doesn't give me the option to opt-out....
after you install it open up my device go to quick tools and press and hold on phone info then you get a pop up asking about the control group thing
Yeah I've tried this like 100 times today, nothing happens I hold "phone info" it highlights green I hold it nothings pop ups asking me to opt out. I've installed and reinstalled the app through the apk manager and without it and it just isn't working. I have nexus one running froyo (latest update) am I missing something????
Its for 2.1 devices only

Ah....well then there you go. Thanks
This app is so completely pointless. Except for the percentage meter, which I am testing to see if I get battery battery life with no percentage widget running. I don't like the 1-10 scale the settings menu has.
This is basically how it works for me. Since I know how to end programs using the back button method , I go to my "My device beta", go to end tasks, and every task I would like to kill says "cannot kill pre-installed app".
Facebook, twitter, all sorts of dumb S*** has to be left running. Personally I hate the mail app because it lags and the gmail app is better, so I would like to close mail along with FB and many others. Would it be so terrible if T-mobile made these things optional.
Any one agree/disagree? care to argue?
I agree that this is useless. I have tried it for a few days now and it has done nothing. I still (out of habbit) go and click my task killer and it constantly is still killing apps that this beta is missing. I purposely opened some and let them run in the background for several hours unused and it still did not kill them and they were not stock apps so it should kill them just fine. Anyway, I still use my task killer to save battery so nothing has changed except I lost a few min of my life tinkering with this. Not worth the time.
I've gotten about 2 extra hours (from 10 to 12 hours) of battery life after installing this. There are plenty of articles explaining how advanced task killer is actually a battery drain, and is really only used by people with a microsoft windows mindset. TMOs app runs a bit differently and actually kills tasks that are running in the background, not just holding memory (I'm not going to explain the differnce, as its been done 100x already).
I give the app a good rating.

Internet Explorer Fails to Start

Hi. I have a new HTC Touch 2. On the 'Start' menu, there are a number of icons / applications. They all start with one tap. Except 'Internet Explorer'. The first tap on the IE icon, takes you back to the 'Today' screen, with 'Internet Explorer' briefly being able to be seen in place of 'Start', then the words disappear. However, the programme does not run. On tapping 'Start', again, and then tapping once on the 'IE' icon (again), it runs. This happens every time I want to use IE. Why? HTC Contact Centre suggested I place IE on the 'Programs' page and try that. It was the same. they have failed to respond to my response. Is there a remedy? Cheers. Dave
Although I can't help you solve this, my phone does exactly the same as yours.
The problem also shows up in email - when you click a link, you see "Internet Explorer" very briefly in the subject line, and then have to click the link a second time.
It does seem odd that a Windows powered device is insistent on using Opera by default, but I wondered if this was because IE was problematic.
Hi, dtmark. You may well be right. I figured that someone would have encounterted this before and know the solution. Maybe it's just you and I!
Thanks
Hi. It's not a best solution but .... If you reset a phone (Start-Settings-System-Delete Memory) problem seems as solved. But you must install all apps again and before deleting you must backup your phone. It worked for me.
Thanks, Ondrej. HTC suggested a hard reset which is effectively the same as you suggest. I did that, and it caused other issues and did not fix this particular issue, so I'm a bit reluctant to try it again. Thanks, anyway.
