This app will backup and restore your messages
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackupPro
Your contacts should be backed up to google's servers already if you used it correctly

Titanium backup works great when backing up messages (includes sms and mms). Also backs up your call log and wifi passwords. Contacts I have them saved on my Google account so I don't loose any of them.

Titanium Backup works great, but you have to be rooted to use it fully

Titanium Backup should be able to handle it.
I am sure there are free apps out there but this one syncs all of this onto your gmail and will allow you to download onto your nexus:

+1 on smsbackup.
I use a app called Super Backup. It backups call logs, text messages, and contacts to your sd card. Then use titanium backup for my apps.

+1 on SMS Backup. Its the best for our phones. Another cool thing is that it stores eveything in that html file. You can pull it to your desktop and edit in text that never happen. Then restore it. Hehehe.

[Q] Best way to transfer SMS/MMS/Call Logs from Galaxy Nexus to Nexus 4?

Hi All,
I've been delaying moving from my Galaxy Nexus to my Nexus 4 and I'm finally at a point I'm ready to move everything over.
One thing is I'd like to backup my SMS, including MMS, and Call Logs from my Galaxy Nexus to my Nexus 4. What's the best way to accomplish this?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Kermee
Download SMS Backup and Restore. Run the backup on the Galaxy Nexus, find the backup on the SD card (it'll be a .xml file). Transfer it over to the Nexus 4, download SMS Backup and Restore on the Nexus 4, locate the backup within the app, and restore

Oy! Thanks for the recommendation!
When I was searching here on the boards, I saw many references to that app. However on their Google Play page, it states this:
PHP:
Please note that this app does not support MMS (Picture/Audio/Video) messages.
Maybe I should just go ahead and forget about MMS messages?
Cheers,
Kermee
I used Go Backup Pro, I think it did all of those.

I just did my transfer using Titanium Pro...

I recommend a program called Android SMS + MMS Transfer. MMS transferring is supported.
There is free app sms backup+. All your messages and call log's will be synced with google. It is useful for multiple devices.

Help with full backup

I'm trying to root my Nexus 4. I got the tool for it (which seems to have a backup feature) but I was wondering what the best thing to do is so I can get my phone exactly the way it was before I rooted and cleared the data without too much trouble. Again I want to have everything back including the apps, SMS, pictures, app data.
Thanks!

Carbon will back up apps and app data (does NOT require root), Google takes care of the settings. As for pictures, just attach them to a computer via USB and copy them over.
Thanks! Anything for SMS Backup? I've found a few apps but what is commonly used?

The app i mentioned in my first post also backups SMS and contacts.
I usually use Super Backup : SMS & Contacts it works great to backup contacts / sms / call logs / Bookmarks / Calendars. By default it backups to the internal storage. Just copy those files to your computer. After you finish rooting/unlocking, copy back the files to your phone and restore it using the same app.

Transferring text messages from old s4 to new s4

My son cracked my fiances S4 so i purchased her a new one off CL. Its been a while since i toyed with the S4 so i was hoping someone could tell me the easiest way to transfer her old text messages from her old S4 to her new. With htc i use the htc transfer tool which basically allows you to transfer pictures, music, photos, videos, settings, bookmarks and messages all over wifi. I know the pics and music should be able to be sent via NFC. Can i send text with NFC? If not whats the easiest way

I use SMS Backup + for saving / restoring text messages when I am switching ROMS... Works pretty good. It creates a folder in you Gmail account and stores them there so you can read them on-line too if needed.

+1 for SMS Backup +. Works great and simple.
However
IF you Titanium BackupRoot Pro. That can backup and restore texts, mms, phone logs et. al.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore sms backup and restore. Go into settings and change the default storage from phone to sd card. It will not back up pictures or videos or audio. You should save any mms attachments and move them from the phone (where messaging program saves by default) to the sd card. Excellent program.

Samsung Messages Bug? Can't switch to Google Messenger!

Hello all,
I'm having this really weird issue where after I recently wiped and freshly updated my Galaxy S7 Edge to Nougat, I started using Samsung's default messages app to see if I'd like it. Well long story short I decided to switch back to Google Messenger like I always do on every device I've owned, but when I install the app, and set it up. NONE of my SENT messages are imported to the app. Only the RECEIVED messages from my contacts. Every message I've sent to any and all of my contacts AND *some* messages received are just completely missing. I have no way of exporting the messages via the Samsung app to then import into google messenger, and I've tried using third-party apps and Samsung smart switch to backup the messages and then restore them, but they all only see and backup the received messages, and not the ones I sent.
This problem is only for the messages I've sent and received since the day I updated my phone and started using Samsung messages. Any conversations older than that, transfer successfully to google messenger.
I don't think Nougat or the update is the issue, but rather with something in samsung messages. I could really use some help! Thanks!

Anyone? I've had to post this in two separate places to no avail.
Same here but I'm trying to switch back to my Nexus 6p. I've had limited success with SMS Backup & Restore. Not all of the messages are pulled out of the stock Samsung messenger. It cannot transfer everything over. Did you ever find a solution?
