[Q] Need help Re-unlocking Sprint S4 4.3 MDC - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hey guys I previously unlocked my phone to work on tmobile, i took it in the other day and they seemed to have changed something since now the phone isn't unlocked. i put it back to MDC modem and tried the ##3424# method but the build number is different than the baseband. the build number is JSS15J.L720VPUEMK2. Can anyone tell me what I need to change to make it work again?
-Sprint S4
-Unlocked then taken to TMo
-TMo put update
-Can't use it anymore
-Tried ##3424#
I appreciate any help!

Reading and searching are what's needed. And then not even much of that. Really there's an entire freaking guide.
PLEASE search, read. Then maybe some more searching and reading.

If anyone knows a way to go around this that would be great

Did you read through the entire thread(s)?
Are you really on the MK2 build INCLUDING BOOTLOADER? If so you CANNOT go to a build before MJA.
You said 4.3 and MDC but your build is listed as MK2 (possible by the way). But have you taken any OTAs?
What tar did you try to flash?
Seems like you tried to flash a tar from 'before' MK2 - with MDL or MDC. That cannot be done if you have the MJA/MK2 bootloader.
HOWEVER there are those that have [as mentioned in those threads] been able to flash MJA/MK2 tar and then go back a baseband/modem.

When you said you "took it in" do you mean to a Sprint store? And by changed something, they might have flashed it to a newer build version. Lets start with this. Can you please post a screenshot of your ABOUT PHONE page? That will atleast give people a starting point to know where your device stands.

Were you on mf3 firmware?
It would seem that OP was not on MF3 because of the mention of getting rid of a custom recovery.

If you're on mf3 Odin is not going to work. You're stuck where you are.
@StlGucci you can take it to bestbuy and have the samsung guy flash the mf3 firmware
That blows. Just to double check, So theres no way to get the stock recovery back? Because I have no recovery at this moment. Playing with fire lol

[Q] How To Root BOA8?

You can't install Philz on the Verizon S5 because the boot loader is locked. You can root OA8 using these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3020546 just make sure to go back to NK2 first then follow the old NCG root method.
Thanks this for sure helped. I got it to pass and work, but how long should it take, because my phone has been stuck on the verizon screen for about 10 to 15 minutes. My odin window said it passed so it should work, but how long does this take?

I had that problem as well. I think you need to factory wipe from recovery (volume up+home+power on boot), but there might be a better way to fix the problem.
Hey man, thanks for all the help. I got it rooted, and I installed safestrap. Now I was wondering if I could install cm12 and lollipop on this device, you know of anyway?

No, you cannot install CM12 or any other AOSP ROMs. With a locked bootloader and safestrap you are limited to only installing touchwiz (TW) ROMs based on the same build you currently have on your phone. For you that means TW ROMs based on BOA8. Look in the Verizon Galaxy S5 Android Development section, I think there are only two right now.
Currently I'm running on NK2 so are there any that you recommend for that, or is there anyway I could upgrade to lollipop?

Same advice as I gave for the BOA8 ROMs, look in the development section for ROMs based on NK2, pick the one that has the most features you want or looks the best to you and try it out. For upgrading to lollipop, follow this guide:

[Q] Experiencing Soft Brick Issues when trying to use Odin

I had a friend come over who wanted me to root his Verizon Note 3. It had the latest version of Android available for it when I tried rooting, which, from what I can gather, is Android 4.4.2 or 4.4.4. I can't seem to find exactly what it was.
This is the guide I followed when I started. Immediately I knew something was wrong because Odin gave a FAIL output. I didn't think to grab that exact output, but this is what I'm getting at this stage:
Code:

Here are the steps I'm taking based on this guide:
1. Downloaded latest Odin version.
2. Downloaded latest stock firmware (MJE).
3. Downloaded PIT file.
4. Reboot phone into Download Mode [Power + Home + Vol Down].
5. Open Odin.
6. Plug in phone. (Shows "Added!")
7. Choose PIT file and stock firmware (under "AP")
8. Choose Start.
This is where I get the error message. On the phone, it shows:
Code:
SW REV CHECK FAIL : [aboot]Fused 4 > Binary 3
I've been doing nothing but running in loops trying to fix this phone. I've tried so many different links and ran around to just about every forum I can find. If anyone has any advice, I really need to fix this as it's not my device.

MJE is not the latest....you will probably have to flash 4.4.4 (NC4 or NK1). You can NOT flash old versions one a newer version is installed.

Where do I find that? All of the places I've gone seem to show MJE. Do you have a reliable source where I can find the latest version at a reasonable download speed.

You can get the latest 4.4.4 firmware from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-N900V/ (if you think there is a chance that it was on 4.4.2 when you tried to root it with de la vega, then you may try that firmware first... Once you put 4.4.4 on it, there's no current root method for it and no going back to 4.4.2).
If you follow Droidstyle's restore guide and use the 4.4.4 firmware (or 4.4.2 if that's what it was on ), that should hopefully help you get the phone fixed. Here's the link to Droidstyle's guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46461911

This link is requiring a sign-up to download at 15 kb/s. The best download link I've found is Rapid Gator, which is limiting me to 40 kb/s. Are there any other faster sources for this file? I searched Google for maybe 15-20 minutes with no luck. Is this file so rare that no one has uploaded it to a more reliable/faster site (e.g. Mega)? I feel like this should be a much more common file than it is.

Sammobile does require a free registration to be able to download from their servers, but I think most people would say it's a generally reliable source.... and they give a md5 to make sure you get a good download. Maybe you'll find something else if you spend enough time searching. Good luck.

I just finally got his phone back on and it's no longer bricked. Now I can't seem to get towelroot to work. I open it on his phone and towelroot claims it's not supported on his phone. Am I missing something simple? Anyone here that's rooted a recent Note 3?

Good to hear you got the phone working again. If you're on 4.4.4, then towelroot will not work and there's no current root method.
4.4.2 was the last build version for the Verizon Note 3 that's rootable.

URGENTLY NEED HELP!
Thanks guys
Need to know what build you were on before you attempted all of this. If you were on BOE1 or BOG5, you cannot ODIN back to a previous build. You will have to ODIN the same build you were on when you started this.
Most likely I had one of the two. I'll try to odin to same build.
My phone was on Android 5.1.1 stock.
YES! It worked. Thank you so much! I really appreciate taking the time to help me. Good to know people are still willing to help out!
Hi I am having the same problem but I cannot find the stock file for 5.1 or 5.0.1. or whatever the newest version is if anyone could help out

If you're having the same problem, the solution is the same: Use Odin to flash the BOG5 system restore image that was linked in the post above yours.

Help with downgrading to android 4.4.4 on SM-G900V?

To start out, I will say that I am not the best with this kind of stuff and do not know THAT much about rooting/flashing ROMs and what not. I have read many posts about how to go about doing this and here is what I tried. I downloaded Odin 3.11.1 and the most recent Android 4.4.4 version (USA) from SamMobile. I turned my phone off and put it into download mode. After this, I started Odin, and pressed VOL up on my device to continue. Odin said "Added". I selected the file to flash in the AP section (G900VVRU1ANK2_G900VVZW1ANK2_G900VVRU1ANK2_HOME.tar.md5) and hit start. This is what came up in Odin:

I have tried this many times with all the USB slots on my PC and with 3 different cords. I have also tried different versions of Odin. I'm not sure if any of that would change anything, like I said, I do not really know what I am doing. Am I doing something wrong here? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Hunter.

You cannot downgrade from BOE1, BOG5, BOK3, BPB1, DPD1, or DPF4. As of BOE1, the bootloader was fused to prevent downgrading.
If you do have a downgrade-able firmware still installed on your phone, then the most likely remaining problem is that the file you're trying to flash is corrupt or incomplete: compare the md5 hash
You can do a partial downgrade to kk 4.4.2 you will still have pb1 bootloader but it does work in s5 verizon general there is a thread by brens123 called I booted into ncg on pb1 bootloader you might be able to subsitute the nk2 firmware instead of ncg firmware using his guide
