How does s4 dial/receive calling on LTE? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So as we know, LTE is data connection and doesn't support voice service by now , so there are 3 ways of workaround.
1. VoLTE, isn't available for now anyway.
2. CSFB, means connect to 4G in use, but switch back to 2G/3G when calling, where Internet will get killed if on switch back on 2G.
3. SVLTE, means connect to both LTE and 2G/3G , data goes on LTE and voice goes on 2G/3G, of course battery life is reduced.
So I was wounding how does our s4(i9505) work on such matter?

Anyone please?

Looking on the icons during the call, the data connection usually disappears during the call. Therefore I'd presume that all data connections are terminated.

I saw that, but consider my LTE signal is very weak indoor, I will try where has better signal

I observed this in LTE, 3G and 2G range already. ALL means ALL.

Unable to use data during a call?

I have N9005 in the UK on EE network. We have 3g, H+ and LTE 4g. In my area I don't get LTE so that os irrelevant.
When I make a call, sometimes I can use data on the phone. For example, whilst on speaker phone, browse XDA.
However, very often, I have no data at all during the call. No 3g, no H+.
The problem is not data signal, as when the call ends I can easily use data.
So, does anybody have this issue?
Also, can anyone explain why?
F. Y. I it is GSM in the UK.

if you have a data signal while on a call your in a H+ area anything lower the data signal drops for the call

Wow, really? I get H+ like everywhere though. It's strange :/

yep basically only a H+ signal supports voice and data together. i had it since sgs2 just sort of learnt to put up with it
My understanding has always been that only Three network could use data during a call. Unless I'm wrong.

does your wireless carrier support phone call and data usage simultaneously. You probably need to call your wireless carrier and find out. Goodluck

YOU don't get LTE because N9005XXUDMJ6 firmware
My one is same, wait for N9005XXUDMK2 firmware or just make clean instal with odin v3.09,Then you will get 4g/lte,
Yesterday i had same issue with calls,,when i make call or receive call data signal was gone its all related to N9005XXUDMJ6 firmware Just install N9005XXUDMK2 then everything will be fine....

[Q] Voice call on 4G only

Hi.
I'd like to use always 4G network for data, but i'd like to receive call (i can't use voice over LTE with my operator). I've seen that if i force 4G only network, i can use internet in place where i not even receive 2g. But if i force that, i can't call on normal GSM network.
I think that we could force a 4G connection maintaining the possibilities to call, simply denying the phone to switch to 3g if not for a call (i'm thinking that in source code there is a 'if 2g\3g signal is stronger than 4g signal, switch', or something like that*. We could change only that, so technically this is not a 'LTE Only' thing). I've searched on the Android code but i've not find anything (i can only for LTE, losing call on GSM -Using Xposed, but we can use anything that works-). Idea?
*
I've seen that there is a 'WCDMA preferred' option. With this, the phone can switch to 2g if there in no 3g connection, but if there is a 3g connection weaker than a 2g connection, it remains on 3g. I think we could do a similar thing for 4g.
Your operator has to support calling trough 4g. And there are almost non that support it (yet). You say it yourself, you can't use voice over LTE with your operator. It's not possible.
I don't want to call on 4g, I want to switch on 3g only during a call. Like now, if I'm on 4g and i make a call i switch on 3g.

Doesn't work. I mean, it works, but this is not a solution: 4g is faster also where it is weaker than 3g, you can try (in particular for ping and reactivity). Of course, if you don't have any LTE coverage, this will not work...
I'm looking at something like 'WCDMA preferred', for 4g... I know that this doesn't exist, but i'm not able to implement myself. I've search on Android Source code but i didn't find the function that handles that operation (i could have use Xposed to modify that)...

I'm using this method for months now.
Am using 4G/LTE for Data, and whenever I received or make calls, it will auto switch to H/H+.
After the calls ended, wait a while, it will come back to 4G/LTE again.
And whenever I don't have any 4G/LTE coverage, it will auto switch to H/H+.
Now, am not sure what's your concern is though.

Network mode problem

Hello.
I have a note 3 n9005 and when the network mode is WCDMA/GSM or LTE/WCDMA/GSM, my phone stays on GSM often. 3G signal is good in the area, and when I check my friends' phones, I find out their phones are on 3G network but mine is on 2G.
When I choose WCDMA Only, phone registers on 3G network and works without any problem. But switching back to auto connect, cause the phone to register on 2G again after some time.
So is there any configuration that tells the phone to stay on 2G if 3G signal is weak?
Please help if you can.
Thanks in advance.

The cell tower does this by signal quality, and most of the time distance dictates quality. I myself have asked around for AUTO 3G/4G only, but it seems like a subject where nobody has done any research.
Does your 3G signal differ from WCDMA only compared to Auto mode? If so, try updating to a newer firmware, could be a modem/baseband issue that may has been fixed in the mean time.
Technically it should grab the highest network of the three. So LTE has priority over WCDMA, which has priority over GSM. So even if WCDMA has one bar, and GSM 4, it should grab WCDMA until it completely loses that signal.
Have you tested another SIMcard in your phone? It may very well be a SIM problem.

You say it is fault of the cell tower?
So why phones of my friends are ok about this issue and register on WCDMA?
I flashed 3 different lollipop ROMs but nothing changed. ?

Yes. That's exactly what I expect my phone to act about switching between network types.
I never tested another SIM in my phone. So I will check that as soon as possible. I will post the result. Thank you.

4G (LTE) connection speed problem @ S7 Edge

Hi all,
I have a problem with S7 Edge when I choose LTE (4G) connection and test the speed by SpeedTest program. It shows that my connection speed (in 4g) is too low but if I select "only 3G" option everyting is ok. Vodafone (operator) says there is no problem in their system. I will connect to the internet but SpeedTest says your speed is unstable and low. There is no problem in wi-fi connection or other thing. Any suggestions?

Sounds straight forward, the LTE signal is weak wherever you are. I have the same thing going on, my HSPA+ (3g) is stronger than my 4G. It's location based.

Thanx for reply, will try different operator I hope it will fix it. It's interesting cause I tested the device speed in the town center. I dont have any problems other than that for now

Yeah, just try a different area too. You can check out the LTE Discovery app. It'll provide used information for you.

Switch network mode 2G/3G/4G (Tasker; without root) ?

Hi there.
Is there any way, to toggle network mode from 4G to 2G without root?
The problem is, that when im at work or at home, my 4G signal strenght is really weak, so it drains my battery too fast. When i manually switch to 2g, the signal strenght is good.
Is there any way without root to toggle network mode with tasker or other apps, while my smartphone is connected to my home or office wifi?
I tried AutoTools w/ tasker and changed the preferred_network_mode1 according to this tutorial, but it did not seem to work:
https://www.reddit.com/r/tasker/comments/6aif23/tip_change_network_type_2g_3g_without_root/
any help appreciated.
cheers

im on the international/european unbranded version.
yes, i do have that option but i would still like to use 4g, when not connected to my home/office wifi.
I hear ya, I'm on sprint which is a bit of a pain because it'll reboot phone when switched, try dialing *#*#info#*#* from dialer and you should be able to change network type from there on that model(yes I know not exactly what your looking for), but that's only thing I can think of without having to root or reboot phone each time(I don't own that model so I don't know that particular phones software)
