So the internet went out today and I though... Why don't I use my phone as a hotspot until it comes back up. After enabling native tethering I connected my laptop to it and it got an IP. I opened my homepage (google.com) and it loaded. After that I did a search on google and it worked. Then I clicked the link and it didn't go anywhere. I thought it was a server down or something so I clicked on another link and the same thing happened. After messing around with it some more I found that anything google related... the play store, youtube worked find but no other site would load. I decided to flash a different rom because I though that was the culprit but it didn't make any difference. I do have the LTE modem installed and franco kernel. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?
Go into your network setting , Find your APN under Mobile Networks and check to see if you are using IPv6. If you are, change it to IPv4 if you can. This may or may not be possible depending on the ROM you are using, this was what got it working on the CM11 based ROM I use. Some evidently require the use of an SQL editor.
Good Luck

Spot on my friend. APN protocol was on IPv6 and APN roaming protocol was on IPv4. I changed APN protocol to IPv4 and it is working great. Thanks for the help. Was pulling my hair out on this one.
ditto
worked for me

I've got GPRS and WiFi working perfectly.
However, everytime I switch between WiFi and GPRS, I got to reentern/remove the proxy server.
My GPRS REQUIRES the use of the proxy, so there's no going around that, and there are no unlimited data plans on the non-proxy access point [face_cry]
I've looked through both HowardForums (where I am from, I've been a Symbian user until now) and here for already existing info.
Aside from finding tons of people who couldnt get the wifi to work because of the proxy, none of those threads gave a solution that included KEEPING the proxy server for GPRS.
If there is a thread with the information to get WiFi to NOT use the GPRS proxy, just link me to the thread and Ill figure out the rest on my own
Thnx! Hope I'll get my post count increased fast so I'm not considered as a post-and-leave user.
of course u can keep the the proxy server for GPRS and surf the internet via wifi ~~
but pity that my device's interface is in chs & my broken english
(if i misunderstand ur thread, dont brick me )
u can fix it ,follow below
start menu--setting---connection--connetion,or u can see my device' captures pic1
(i dont really sure if ur device is that path,i just translated it from chinese to english)
select the icon in green (pic1)
a new window like pic2,just do it
and the key step in pic3:
the two places in red circle
dont select ur wap setting ,select my isp or my network is ok
when u want to connect internet via gprs,u rechange to ur gprs setting
enjoys
oh I understand what you mean. Yes that way I dont have to retype my proxy addresses.
Sadly, it's still not automated from what I see
I'll have to make a shortcut for that section.
Thanks woohyuksheng!
Cingular proxy cabs
Cingular has a set of cab files that enable/disable the proxy settings. if you search this forun you will find then. they are also in the latest cingular rom, black 3.0, and custel 1.3.
if you are not on cingular you could try and edit the cab files with your carrier info.
give it a try.

Woohyuksheng's trick didn't do anything either.
My fix for WiFi usage
Thanks JCB Dalek!
All I needed was to add DNS addresses for my Wifi adapter and to EnableAutoDetect=1
Ignore this , I changed everything I said
I have a chance to get a touch for 40$ which is a good deal right?
Also can I flash it to cricket and internet and all will work and after I flash it I could put android on it correct?
I could easily find out how to flash to cricket by reading but am confused by the android part isnt it flashing a new rom so I couldnt connect to cricket? Thanks will be back tonight to reply so leave as many suggestions as possible
Thank You all
no flashed rom needed for android
after you have flashed you touch to what ever rom works for you. there will no need to flash it for android because android as it is will not replace windows. andriod runs off of the sd card. just read forum for android on the touch it should any question you have.

with Android running off the MicroSD, texting works only partially (Sprint/Verizon texts give "bad SMS encoding" errors) and web not at all due to Cricket's dumb proxy settings
this is the case with the XV6800, and i am sure the Touch will have the same dilemma

Can you make calls or not?
If you can't call or recv is your ESN in the cricket system.
Did this just start happening?
If you can not make calls but can recv calls go to EPST setting/CDMA setting and change the following..
EVRC enable = enable
and the three below it change to EVRC
make sure you have cricket PRL
HOME SID/NID are correct
ESN matches cricket system
MDN/MIN are correct
Everything works fine now, call and text. However mobile web is still a no go. In the new Ion build there is no APN settings program, just APN under settings for the android. When I add my user name and password to my current APN it still wont log on.

Web works on mine. reset your modem settings using the modem icon. You may have to dl a new modem app though.
The APN settings should be the same as the settings you used on the window mobile settings, wap.mycricket.com port 8080 etc etc.
How do you change the modem settings? Ive entered all the information in APN like user name, password, por,t proxy, is there anything else you said..... meaning theres more?

So what are the correct APN setting to make these cupcake builds work on Cricket???
actually at this time i have no idea if it works or not as they removed the ppp.username ppp.password from teh default.txt and from then on it seemed to have killed the data connection.
All i did was go into the wireless networks settings, or APN settings in wireless settings and modify teh defulat. I changed all the settings that you would in WinMo and left the rest as they were and it all worked. Currently trying to download a new system image file so I can test it.
proxy question
hi i have htc vogue on cricket and im using donut 1.6 flashable rom and i have data working with no problems. But only in browser not through any of the apps or activate my google account. i have been reading and they say its because of cricket port wont let us reach out. also there has been mention of buying cricket 15 html plan but is there a proxy bypass or workaround out there thank you

The HTML data plan is a good work around but is not a 100% sure fix because in different markets it also works through the Simple IP. There are other work arounds like the broadband hack. But that requires a broadband number.
I know this is a bit old but has anything changed here to make Android market/data work on cricket data plan? I am still confused as to what settings in android to make (followed all of whitey's instructions for cricket)

Hey,
I just installed WP7, it's all running very smooth but my Wifi doesn't find any networks and I don't know how to set my APN settings.
I read other posts saying go to settins->mobile network and then edit apn. But I only see Add apn which asks for a username and a password?
Help would be appreciated.

Are you T mobile? All I did was put the carriers name. I have T mobile so i put "T-Mobile US" and left the rest blank. Worked for me.
apn
apn: epc.tmobile.com
user name: blank
password: blank
works for me (tmous) been using it for a couple hours. had one random reboot, but all good after that
I had the same problem, I use HI although he suggest i'm on KPN but you have insert in the APN section: portalmmm.nl
Wifi doesn't see any networks at all? Odd.
Wifi's working well enough for me. I did notice some pretty weird stuff, though:
It seems to be impossible to find out your wifi MAC address from within WP7 - I had to browse through my router's logs for it.
Once I found it, though, I soon realized that it was actually useless to know in the first place, since the MAC address seems to change every boot with this ROM (forget about restricting access to your network based on MAC).
While modifying router settings to get the phone to connect, WP7 also froze on me a few times.
WP7 will not connect at all with networks with a hidden SSID.
It would seem there's still some room for improvement on the wifi front.
I've the same problem with Wifi since i flash the OS with a SD cards !If i remove this one, all works fine!
wifi workig great here with conectify as AP. mac is changed on every restart also.
My wifi works and the phone shows a 3g, H etc signal, but I cant sent mms
Prepaid T-Mobile service
I believe the problem with the settings are not for the regular T-Mobile service, but for the Prepaid T-Mobile service (SimpleMobile), there is no place configure the APN with all the necessary settings like: Proxy, Port, MMSC, MMS proxy, MCC, MNC, etc.
If anyone finds a way to setup this values on HD2WP7 please post here.
Thank you in advance
Load the attached connection setup xap and run it, it will automatically apply your carrier settings for 3G and mms. Worked perfect for me (TMoUSA)
How do I load this file? I already tried it from the phone, but it doesn't work.
Does anyone know how I could sync to outlook with my hd2 wp7
When go to settings > celuar, click on automatic, then press manual. When you have done that you see a button sais APN. Click on it and put this in (Vodafone)
APN: live.vodafone.com
user: vodafone
pass: vodafone
All done, now It works (for me anyway). Wifi sucks on some SD cards, don't know wich ones.
Also there is somwhere here a APN list for alot of country's and providers. Search google XDA APN settings or so.
Thing this would work for getting ATT 3G and MMS working?
Yes, as long you as you put youre own providers APN settings It should.
I can't configure the apn settings, and the HTC Connection Setup show me this message: "the carrier doesn't exist in database. Please contact your carrier for connection setting and go to Setting>Cellular>edit APN for further configuration"...
Is there a way add my carrier the the database of the connection setup?
Any luck with the WIFI issue?
I've tried the above mentioned solution by removing the SD C & reboot again but i didn't work for me.
Hi!
I got my Nexus 4 yesterday. I tried following these directions here to set my APN to support IPv6:
(I tried posting the link here but the forum software didn't let me. Please Google intitle:"T-Mobile IPv6 using unlocked UMTS Nexus & Galaxy Nexus Phones" to find the link I was going to post)
Unfortunately after changing the APN and rebooting the phone, 3G mobile networking didn't work. Has anyone had luck with this?
Why would you want to do this? How does it benefit you?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Thread moved to Q & A section, post in the relevant section next time.
i would like to know what this does too. Im on Tmo US and have been having trouble with my MMS pics not downloading ... figure its an APN setting issue
Verify your APN type says "default,MMS,supl" with no spaces.
That should fix your MMS issue.
IPv6 works for me

It seems to work for me: I just changed the APN Protocol from IPv4 to IPv6 on the existing epc.t-mobile.com APN. IPv6 test sites seemed happy (except for IPv4 literals in URLs). Setting the APN Protocol to IPv4/IPv6 (the third option) doesn't give me a functioning IPv6-able DNS, so most IPv6 tests fail.
android-clat?
While on the subject of IPv6...
Is anyone planning on incorporating android-clat ( dan.drown.org/android/clat/ possibly with more info at sites.google.com/site/tmoipv6/464xlat ) into a ROM for the Nexus 4? The T-Mobile IPv6 APN, while working for most things, has a few too many bugs for everyday use without the ability to parse IPv4 literal addresses.
On a related note, I've been a long time lurker here and it's helped me to understand unix based operating systems tremendously, but my only programming experience was C++ 11 years ago in high school. Can anyone suggest a good primer for becoming familiar with android building and compiling? I don't think I'll be able to get up to speed quickly enough to implement clat myself but perhaps I could be more helpful down the road. Much of the terminology with open source software is completely foreign to me; for instance, I see that android-clat has been merged into AOSP as of 11/12, but I'm not quite sure what that means with regards to having it functional in ROMs, for instance... all I know is that stock 4.2.1 and the beta CM10 doesn't have it as I'm still running into the same IPv6 problems.
Thanks!

I don't know how many users here are on t-mobile with the Z1s and using the VPNs from your phone, but this is a necessity for me. After finally getting around to it I found out real quick that it didn't work, and recently found a post on their support forum confirming this as well as a workaround for it.
http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/60804
The above is specific to T-Mobile, but not to the Z1s, so I wanted to go ahead and add my experience, which is specific to the Z1s:
For some reason I was unable to edit the APN settings. I called T-Mobile support and they told me they can't help with VPN issues because it is the IT department of my companies problem (that would be me... and yes i know the vpn works). They told me if i wanted to access the APN settings i needed to unlock the phone? But I'm impatient so here is what I did for the Z1s specifically I just created a new APN with the same settings, and basically all you need to do is chang the protocol from IPv6 only to IPv4/IPv6 :good:
And now VPN works!
P.S. If this should be in a more general sub-forum please let me know/feel free to move it. :good:
I use private internet access VPN and their apps works fine for me. Did not need to modify anything. Just entered username/pw and connect. Have not tried the phone using a corporate work VPN though.

The problem seems to be if your endpoint is using IPv4, since the TMO network seems to be on IPv6 (though it may depend on the area). Also, this is using IKEv1 IPSEC VPNs through built-in android VPN settings. I also tried NCP's VPN client (3rd party app).
I think tmo should set their default profile to IPv4/IPv6.
I noticed sometimes I don't have data connection even though at full bars.
After I create a new profile with IPv4/IPv6, I don't have this problem any more.
