Continuum signature failure fix - Continuum General

I had an error about verifying the file signature and found a fix buried in a thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943415&page=5&nocache=1
It seems the phone needs to reboot into recovery mode instead of manually entering (you can't hold both volume buttons and power, for some reason it is different i.e. the camera button is the select button instead of menu). I had to do what Speardroid notes below to get update.zip to go with no error.
For those who have been hanging on the edge of their seats waiting to see if my struggles ended....they haven't totally...but I have finally managed some success.
it seems to be totally a hit or miss thing...but I have been able to get into CWR, red text and all, twice....enough to do a backup of my ROM and flash the DL17 clean ROM along with the two updates (email and social)
The only way I've been able to get into CWR....is to Odin the .pit and .tar file from this thread over and over again...until for some reason after it says reset in Odin my phone resets directly into manual recovery mode. This has happened twice, and both times I had to use the soft key to apply update.zip and both times it got me into CWR.
Manual rebooting with vol up and down takes me to the original recovery mode where the camera button works and flashing update.zip doesn't.
Even doing the Odin technique, when it doesn't fail, typically just restarts my phone into Android...except for two times.
So basically, I hope I don't need to flash anymore .zip files because getting back into CWR is like playing a game of roulette.....although strangely, I've never actually done that.

Grrrr, Why Me! Help

Well I've had my Vibrant for about a month now but have not been in a rush to root because there aren't really any ROMS available yet. I've donated so I'm excited to see what comes about. Any way I decided to go ahead and root today because frankly the bloatware was getting on my nerves. So I rooted the phone basically just flashing the upsate.zip and then flashing recovery via rom manager. Now I'm a bit frustrated because immediately after rooting:
1. My Vibrant is laggy as all hell!
2. Google apps crashes repeatedly
3. My damn market no longer works! Can't download apps via market anymore
4. My Sync is now broken, it says synced but definitely does not sync anything any time anymore.
What gives? Others have obviously had no problems and I'm certain I didn't do anything wrong, I've been rooting and flashing since the days of G1 and have had a Mytouch and most recently a Nexus One. I'm not fantastically versed but I'm no n00b all the same.
Also what's up with the radio? My phone rings and the ringer is low then a few seconds later gets loud also the delay between the time I dial a number and the number rings is pretty big, I've taken two phones and called one to check.
Any way I'm frustrated and unroot is not working, I attempted to unroot but yet remain rooted with all the same headaches.
Some help would be appreciated.
Go ahead and use odin to get back to stock. Yes you will lose your data.

You should be back to stock at this point. Then use this file to get root.

There really isnt much else to do. You dont even need the recovery, yet, but use clockwork through market to get it. Choosing Vibrant as the recovery option. Download the busybox app from market to get the newest one.
unfortunately my phone does not boot into download mode. I've tried holding volume down and power, no dice it just boots up normally. ive also tried holding volume up and power to the same result....And I don't know of any other way to use Odin without download mode. After rooting my phone nothing works properly.

You have to hold volume up and down while holding power. Once the screen goes black release power and continue holding volume up and volume down.
Your other option is with adb to do "adb reboot download" and it will reboot into download mode.
Once you get the hang of holding the volume up and down it's a piece of cake.
try installing one of eugene's ROMs through Clockwork, and see if that fix's anything.
Make sure you have the samsung drivers installed on your computer.
Odin can be tricky, here's my sure fire way that i get into Odin every single time.
DO NOT HAVE YOUR USB PLUGGED IN YET
1) Start odin load your .pit file and rom into PDA
2) Go into stock recovery
3) Now plug in the USB cable, Odin should recognize a phone is connected
4) In recovery select Reboot System
5) Immediately press the Volume Up/Down Button all the way in, (2 clicks)
6) should load the yellow triangle and say download mode plus Odin should recognize it immediately
Okie doke, thanks guys, I went ahead and used Odin to return to get back to stock so I'm going to just root again, I have no idea why things got so screwed up when I rooted and flashed before. Getting into download mode was annoying but this is what worked for me:
1. Turn off phone
2. Plug USB in
3. Wait for green charging screen
3. Hold Volume Up, Volume down, and Power.
5. Let go of power as soon as the screen goes black.
Open Odin and load files then hit start....and back to stock I went.
Thanks again!

Please try to help me unbrick my Vibrant

So I tried Odin and was going back to stock. Odin was going for over an hour and no progress was being shown. So what I read is to restart the process. So I took out the battery and went to get into Download Mode again. So my guess is the something was actually still writing even after an hour...or Odin wrote something bad at the beginning and then died.
Well now my phone only goes to the Screen showing a Phone --- ! ---- Computer. I have tried many tricks listed on this site. Take out the battery, hookup the USB, hold down up and down volume, and then put the battery back in...nothing. Tried many things like this.
ADB doesn't see the device.
Any thoughts?

If you can get into samsung recovery try wiping user data.

Still have the Phone --!-- PC image only. Comes right up immediately.
Try
1) pull the battery
2) plug in micro usb
3) hold down both vol buttons
4) pop in battery
I am having the exact same problem. When I tried to odin back to stock, it got stuck on cache.rfs. So i took out the battery, and get back into download mode, , but odin didn't see the phone after I plug the USB back in. So i restart odin, and it assign a com port. When I click start after specifying the pit and tar file. It would just get stuck at cache.rfs again.
I am not able to get into recovery, and I just see the <computer ! phone>. or I can get into download mode with the key combinations. but odin wouldn't flash, and i can't boot regularly. Please help.
This is happened to me as well. I was trying for hours to get ODIN to flash the tar file but it would either freeze or fail. Eventually I tried another computer and started from scratch by downloading the USB Drivers, ODIN, the PIT and TAR file again. In my case it turned out to be my computer, using another computer successfully flashed teh stock rom and later the manual ota update.
Is Your Vibrant Hardware Locked?
Sounds Like it, If It Is, Your Screwed..Sorry
nvm, i finally got it to flashed back to stock. it wouldn't work until I finally found the odin v1.52. it flashed as soon as I use that version of odin. btw..I don't think mine is hardware locked, since i am normally able to get into recovery or download mode by using the key combination. Thanks

You might get more help if you rename your topic title to something more descriptive.
Second, try searching the forum; this has been discussed in numerous threads on both this forum and the developer's section, along with how to fix it.
Try the threads about the update, or dialing a certain code to force it manually (that's where I learned the timing trick to get into stock recovery on the NS). On the screen you're at, try pressing and holding power, then pressing/holding volume up, that should get you into stock recovery.
Also, if you can get into fastboot, you can fastboot flash the CWM recovery back to the device. If you made an nandroid before doing anything, you can at least go back to the device's state before you tried the update.
i could not find anything on this issue on google or here
i tried doing vol up and power, but its still at the screen, and my computer doesnt recognize my phone
use the instruction on the topic to ROOT the phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875875
and in one of the steps you can use the ADB to push a good ROM back into the phone to be re-flashed
Try just pulling the battery.
If not, you'll have to use fast boot from the SDK. Just follow the howto at the top of this forum to flash original images.
thank you so much!
i locked my bootloader again, and i've been trying to get the 2.3.1 update, but everytime i do try, it freezes at the android warning sign. i also tried installing it via rommanager when i was rooted...whats going on?
any ideas what could be wrong?

Are you able to get into Fastboot?
I wonder if part of your problem is that you relocked the bootloader. (Why'd you do that anyways? No advantage, imo.)
Fastboot oem unlock will completely wipe your phone, I mean WIPE EVERYTHING, including the sdcard (photos, music, some apps' data, etc), but such a wipe might get you back to stock firmware and stock recovery, then at least you could boot up. You could also then reflash CWM.
Before doing that, let's try this if you haven't:
Turn off phone.
Hold vol-up, then press/hold power.
You should then be in fastboot mode.
The timing's critical (on my phone anyways) for this step: Select recovery, and have your hands on the power button and volume button ready to push.
Watch the screen very closely, for a bout a half second or so, the screen will flash a box with an arrow dumping out onto the android dude. While that screen is showing, press/hold the power button, then press/hold the vol up button. Important to do the power button FIRST this time (at least it is on my phone).
You should then be able to get into the stock recovery.
Once there, maybe we can figure out where to go, but we need to know how messed up your phone is at this point.
Once in Recovery, you could try wiping cache if it's an option, then trying to reboot. Worth a shot, but not likely to work.
You could also do the factory reset wipe in there, this one shouldn't wipe your sdcard if there's anything critical/valuable on it. It will reset all your settings and logins and wipe the apps you've installed, though. Again, might let you boot up normally.

[Q] What To Do If Unable To Boot After Flashing

Hello,
Thanks to all the devs and folks in the forums for all their hard work and dedication to the Fascinate Cause. I am currently stuck...I went to flash the latest [ROM]DL09 Super Clean 0.4/EB01 2.2!! *UPDATED* and all was good.
Then I went to update the EB01 Modem via Odin and unchecked the Auto Reboot option because I wanted to go back and update CWM. Odin came back with an Error (did not record said error) and did not complete so I tried again with the Auto Reboot option checked. A message popped up on the Fascinate, however I did not record that message either.
I am now stuck with the following:
1. If I have the battery in and the USB cable inserted into the Fascinate and the computer (PC) the phone comes up in "Android system recovery <2e>, Samsung Recovery Utils - for BML -. I am able to use the Volume keys to scroll up and down the available options (reboot system now, apply sdcard:update.zip, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition) but when I press the Power Button nothing happens...
(Update: OK, after reading through other Posts I realized that in this situation you have to press the Home Key...you press the Power Button when in CWM)
it lets me do the Factory Reset, Wipe Data, and such but it comes back with the same thing...
2. If I have phone disconnected from PC with battery inserted and press the Power Button I get a Phone, two dots, a yellow Caution Triangle with "!" in the middle, two dots and a PC.
I should have left well enough alone...I realize now that I could/should of flash via CWM instead of Odin. I really hope I did not "Brick" my phone as it was getting pretty neat with all the work you and all the other devs have been doing.
Any help you can provide would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you,
LJackson10
I would restore the backup you took when you started, and if need be, odin back to DL09.
If you did not start with a backup - you will likely need to odin back to DL09 and re-flash Super Clean 0.4.
Did you use the PDA button?
It's been my experience to flash modems first then the rom. Especially when the rom you use i'd based off of another modem. Odin back to dl09 and work up.
If you are unable to get into CWR then you need to flash the file in this thread via Odin and then folow the steps I have written below (if you can get into CWR then just skip to the last paragraph):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=911677
Note that after flashing the above you will need to follow the instructions in this post as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913470
After the above is completed (or if you are already able to access CWR), connect your phone to your pc with the battery removed. Get into download mode by pressing the down volume button and open up Odin and flash the EB01 moden using the PDA button. Let the phone reboot afterwards. Then boot into recovery and flash the Super Clean ROM.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Deleted the system on my s4 i9505

Unfortunately I have deleted the system of my S4 i9505 from within TWRP :crying:
After having some fun with CyanogenMod I decided to try out the PAC rom. Following the installation instructions on their mod page I wiped the internal data of my phone but what as I was sliding the confirmation I realised that 'system' was checked. Too late
I have read through countless threads on this sight and others but have not had any success.
I have located the stock recovery image for my device.
When my device is first switched on I can still hit volume down + power button, and then volume up to enter the downloading mode (but if I don't the booting begins to loop at the Samsung Galaxy S4 logo and goes no further). Odin still recognises my phone and allows me to flash roms but when it does the auto re-boot at the end I don't have a system and it gets stuck on the booting at the Galaxy S4 logo.
Several threads have suggested that I Fastboot, I'm not sure if this is even an option with the S4 or not but please let me know if it you're sure that it is. I have been unsuccessful with my Fastboot attempts so far but if I just need to persevere with it then I can.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated :fingers-crossed:
In TWRP. Setting and Enable MD5 verification of backup files. (It maybe help.) Or Skip MD5 generation of backup.
And why you don´t flash stock ROM via Odin??
It's really easy.
Just reflash TWRP true Odin. Then flash the rom you want. That's all you need to do.

I'm not sure what the first part of your post means but I am not even able to access TWRP, that is the problem.
I have flashed the stock ROM via Odin. After I flash the ROM it does the normal re-boot. But I my phone loops on the splash screen without every actually re-booting properly.

I have reflashed it but as described above my phone fails to reboot after the flash.
I might be missing something here. I'm not sure how to get into recovery mode after flashing the ROM. Immediately as the device begins to re-boot I've tried holding power button + volume up + home button but the screen goes black and when I let go of the buttons the phone just auto boots itself.
EDIT: My phone automatically attempts to boot whenever it is connected to USB.
Is it possible to flash an entire OS in a ROM rather than just altering the recovery??
1. Flash TWRP recovery true Odin. Make sure Auto-reboot is UNCHECKED. After it finished flashing, unplug it, reboot and try to get to recovery now.

I have done that again (now having turned off the Auto-reboot (thanks btw). I can get Odin to come up with a big green PASS for flashing TWRP. Now when I try to boot into recovery however the phone vibrates and the flash screen comes up but then it powers down again. I'm just holding power button + volume up + home button to attempt getting into recovery but it isn't working. Do I need to try and flash another ROM?
EDIT: SUCCESS!!!! I made it to recovery (apparently this post was premature). It looks like failing to un-check the auto-reboot in ODIN was the problem. Thanks a lot man, that was a massive help. From recovery I was able to flash my backup ROM.

No a rom has nothing to do with the recovery not working. Are you holding the buttons long enough? Just try to hold them for like 30 seconds even if it reboots 3 times.
