Grrrr, Why Me! Help - Vibrant General

Well I've had my Vibrant for about a month now but have not been in a rush to root because there aren't really any ROMS available yet. I've donated so I'm excited to see what comes about. Any way I decided to go ahead and root today because frankly the bloatware was getting on my nerves. So I rooted the phone basically just flashing the upsate.zip and then flashing recovery via rom manager. Now I'm a bit frustrated because immediately after rooting:
1. My Vibrant is laggy as all hell!
2. Google apps crashes repeatedly
3. My damn market no longer works! Can't download apps via market anymore
4. My Sync is now broken, it says synced but definitely does not sync anything any time anymore.
What gives? Others have obviously had no problems and I'm certain I didn't do anything wrong, I've been rooting and flashing since the days of G1 and have had a Mytouch and most recently a Nexus One. I'm not fantastically versed but I'm no n00b all the same.
Also what's up with the radio? My phone rings and the ringer is low then a few seconds later gets loud also the delay between the time I dial a number and the number rings is pretty big, I've taken two phones and called one to check.
Any way I'm frustrated and unroot is not working, I attempted to unroot but yet remain rooted with all the same headaches.
Some help would be appreciated.

Go ahead and use odin to get back to stock. Yes you will lose your data.

You should be back to stock at this point. Then use this file to get root.

There really isnt much else to do. You dont even need the recovery, yet, but use clockwork through market to get it. Choosing Vibrant as the recovery option. Download the busybox app from market to get the newest one.

unfortunately my phone does not boot into download mode. I've tried holding volume down and power, no dice it just boots up normally. ive also tried holding volume up and power to the same result....And I don't know of any other way to use Odin without download mode. After rooting my phone nothing works properly.

You have to hold volume up and down while holding power. Once the screen goes black release power and continue holding volume up and volume down.
Your other option is with adb to do "adb reboot download" and it will reboot into download mode.
Once you get the hang of holding the volume up and down it's a piece of cake.

try installing one of eugene's ROMs through Clockwork, and see if that fix's anything.
Make sure you have the samsung drivers installed on your computer.
Odin can be tricky, here's my sure fire way that i get into Odin every single time.
DO NOT HAVE YOUR USB PLUGGED IN YET
1) Start odin load your .pit file and rom into PDA
2) Go into stock recovery
3) Now plug in the USB cable, Odin should recognize a phone is connected
4) In recovery select Reboot System
5) Immediately press the Volume Up/Down Button all the way in, (2 clicks)
6) should load the yellow triangle and say download mode plus Odin should recognize it immediately

Okie doke, thanks guys, I went ahead and used Odin to return to get back to stock so I'm going to just root again, I have no idea why things got so screwed up when I rooted and flashed before. Getting into download mode was annoying but this is what worked for me:
1. Turn off phone
2. Plug USB in
3. Wait for green charging screen
3. Hold Volume Up, Volume down, and Power.
5. Let go of power as soon as the screen goes black.
Open Odin and load files then hit start....and back to stock I went.
Thanks again!

How to get into Download Mode

Samsung Vibrant Download Mode
Method 1 (without ADB):
1. Take out battery, put it back in. (to turn the phone fully off)
2. Don't turn it the phone on!
3. Plug the phone into your PC, do not hit the power button!
4. See if the phone shows anything on the screen (screen turns on when plugged in) EX: Shows a battery, shows error messages if bricked, etc. Shows anything.
IF the phone screen does 'turn on' after being plugged in without you hitting the power button, so far so good.
5. Now while it's on like this, hold both the volume up and volume down buttons.
6. Hold the power button as well as the volume buttons until the screen goes black.
7. As soon as the screen goes black, let go of the power button! But DON'T let go of the volume buttons!
This is how I got into download mode to fix my 'odd' brick.
Method 2 (with ADB):
1. Turn your phone on
2. Go to Settings -> Application Settings
3. Enable Debug Mode
4. Plug your phone into your PC
5. Install Android SDK
6. Open Command Prompt
7. Type: cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
8. Type: adb reboot download
Either of these methods *should* get you into Download mode. After that you should be able to use Odin to revert to stock, tar and instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
Or flash anything with Odin.
I am in a situation where I rooted my phone but never made a recovery and now I did a factory reset and I only get a force close loop when booting and cannot do anything. I am not able to get into debugging mode to use ADB and the hardware buttons are not working any suggestions on how I can fix this
The only thing i did was remove some bloatware which is why I did not do a recovery since I wasnt removing anything important. Phone worked fine until I tried to do the factory reset now everything just force closes and cannot do anything
I turned my phone on then removed battey. hold vol up and down together then plug the phone in via usb to pc, should enter download mode after a few seconds (don't press the power button at all)I use odin to flash back to stock.
THANKS!
This saved my ass lol I was lookin at it like wtf? cuz odin failed and then when i reloaded and tried again nothing happened so i unplugged. I don't know what I was thinking when I did it, but I did lol.
Thanks again bro

just Odin back to stock and start over there is realy no other way to fix fc
OP: what youre doing in your hardware button combinajtion method is lettinf it boot, then pressing the up+down vol and doing a hardware reset (by holding power key). You can cut oout a step by holding tthe up down keys when you plug in. It should boot to download automatically.
Also, you should mention in your post that the button combination is different for people who flashed gingerbread bootloaders..
Another thing, i believe the newer android sdk moved the adb package to C:/android-sdk/platform-tools/ ..
To tthe person with the force close issue, read the OP, go into download mode and use odin to flash to stock.

[Q] how do you know if you have a vibrant that cant boot to download mode?

OK i have the t-mobile vibrant my second one. for the reason the first one would not take charge or died to quick or something. The thing is i flash vibrant7 flash OK but it was freezing so i made a nandroid of stock rooted vibrant so i can flash back to. So on the proses of nanrestoring it finish and rebooted but it got stock on the vibrant screen not booting up. so i tried going into download mode but no good tried every single button combination no good. so am asking how would you know if you have one of those vibrant that cant boot to download mode. also i cant access
adb for the reason it doesn't reconices the device. help!!!!!!
Plug your phone into you computer via usb while its off, wait for the battery charging icon to appear. HOLD PWR+VOL-UP+VOL-DOWN until the screen goes black, then RELEASE POWER, but continue to HOLD both VOL buttons. That should boot you into download mode NP

I have been reading through xda and other sites as well and it seems like the replacement vibrants cannot get into download or recovery mode manually. I'm stuck on the phone+!+PC symbol on my phone. It's been a day now and I cannot for the life of me get this thing in download mode. Literally have tried every possible way. The funny thing is that my original vibrant could get into download mode very easily. There have been suggestions that the volume keys are disabled for getting into download mode on the replacement phones. Any ideas or suggestions besides returning the phone or waiting for another replacement?
I'm on my second Vibrant too. First one wouldn't boot into DL mode at all and I killed it when installing one of the lagfixes. Nothing worked; button combos, adb, no matter what I did I couldn't access DL mode or recovery. Fortunately I was able to get another one from T-Mobile. My suggestion would be to make sure you can boot into one of those BEFORE tinkering with anything on the phone. Chances are that if you can get back to recovery you'll be ok. If you can't get there on a stock phone then take it back to the store and tell them you're having random reboots or shutdowns. The store rep will most likely try to do a master reset. If it won't boot into recovery for them they should give you a new one. Good luck!

Flashing JL4 Help Needed

I must be doing something wrong here.
I have Odin 3 1.70.
I have the .tar file JJL4 thread in the development forum.
Samsung drivers are installed.
I take out the battery, then put it back in, then hold vol+/vol- and hit power and I'm in system recovery screen.
The last entry on the phone says installing muti-CSC.
I then connect the phone to the PC and it recognizes something on Com3. I then load the tar file in the pda section of ODIN. I'm not loading the PIT file.
When I click start, odin says file analysis, then setupconnection, then nothing else happens after that.
I don't need the .pit file, right? If I use the .pit file, does that erase the programs and data that I had stored on the phone?
Help?
I had a similar problem using the same version of Odin. Then I flashed it again using Odin 1.30 and it worked fine.

You need to get your phone in Download Mode, not Recovery. If you see a yellow Android with a shovel, you're in Download Mode. Check out the stickies and the Vibrant Bible.
Well, all of the instructions say to hold vol+/vol- and then power. When I do that it takes me into the recovery screen.
How do I get it into the download screen then?
I have never seen this posted here or anywhere but this is how I get into download EVERY time. I also don't go into every post though lol.
With the phone off hold the volume buttons down THEN plug in the usb to the phone it will go straight to download mode. USB needs to already be plugged into PC too if that wasn't obvious.
I think the way it's actually posted though is Volume +, Home button, and Power not both volumes. I have never gotten it to work that way and I stumbled onto the above way by accident.

Wow, you think that would be in the guides somewhere.
Phone off, holding both vol+/vol- and then plugging usb cable into the phone put my in downloading mode.
Was I doing something completely wrong before? Why wasn't it going into download mode?
Thank you much!
Flashing now, fingers crossed.
Turn off your phone, plug your phone in and when you see the green charging. Hold the. Volume up and
Down keys and the power key until you see the download mode.
Ok, so ODIN succeeded. It rebooted and got hung at the S.
I went into recovery mode, cleared the cache and rebooted again and I'm still stuck at the S?
What now?!
EDIT: Went into recovery and cleared cache again and I'm back up now.
great news! now you know how to odin. but majority of the time you will have to use a back up like titanium backup or nandroid from cwm to restore your apps and stuff. when using t-backup make sure not to select missing apps plus system data cause that can cause some force closes!
Z4 mod isn't working for me on this. Should it be?
What else will root this version?

Can't get into download mode

Okay, so I think I brainfarted and softbricked my Vibrant. I tried to get it into download mode, but pressing vol up+down only gets me a gray battery icon, not the usual download screen. When I power it up regularly, it goes into bootloop. It's never had a problem going into download mode before, so I don't know if there's a malfunction with the vol buttons or what. I certainly seem to suck.
(Ugh, just noticed the no questions in the general forum rule. Mods, please delete)
Pull battery
Plug phone into computer via usb
Hold vol up, vol down, and power
Replace battery while still holding those buttons
U can go to 4shared and grab a app called hot boot, it will put u in recovery

Turn off phone
pull out battery
hold Volume UP and Volume Down
Plug in USB cable to computer
Put battery in
Once in download mode let go of Volume UP and Down
You could always us the toolbox
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509
try to do the same steps but hold the vol up button only (not the down)!
this the only way that i can get into download mode!
These guys listed about every way to get in to download mode. If none of them work, you are doing something wrong...
Are you running gingerbread or froyo?
Button sequences are different. Gingerbread uses one volume button(depending on the kernel either up or down) and the power button, while froyo uses the both volume buttons only.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
(Depending on the level of softbricking you will either see the Android with a shovel or a phone and computer with exclamation mark, both are download modes)
Froyo bootloader:
Pull Battery,
Put Battery back in phone,
Hold only volume up and down at same time.
Insert USB.
GB Bootloader:
Pull Battery,
Put Battery back in,
Press and hold Volume Up+Power button.
These should work without flaw. If neither work for you, you may need to invest a couple bucks in getting a USB Jig.
Same issue witht similar results
I am having the same issue, Phone was rooted, on the Keis Gingerbread Update. When I tried to restore to Froyo, using T959UVJFD it got stuck in a boot loop, Tried to go to CWM cyogenmod using both Oden and Recovery and Odin Failed, Recovery gave me the evil Signature Failed.
So I tried a different Froyo EUGENE373 which bricked the phone. I was able to unbrick with onclickUnbrick (Awesome app, thank You). But when I tried to apply The Factory Froyo again it failed in Odin.
Now, the PC will not recognize the phone, USB divice failed message. I removed and reinstalled the drivers, Tried the Samsung Drivers, the Keis drivers and Hiendall drivers as well as the USB drivers with the ADK / SDK toolkit. I tried to connect the phone to another PC with the same result. I know that I am doing the process to get into Download mode properly, but it only displays the greyed out battery, with the USB unplugged the phoned boots to the Galasy S GT-I9000 Samsung screen and I am not able to get out of it with any button combo.
This is my wifes phone and I am in the doghouse for this one. I have rooted and flashed my Verizon Fascinate with no issues. Thank You for your help. if I can get into download mode I was going to follow the process in the NOOB root, flash sticky thread, unless someone has a better Idea.

boot loop after trying to flash twrp 2.2.1

Okay so I seem to have run into a little problem I was planning on updating cleanrom up to 1.2.5 but was on cwm. I had managed to switch over successfully to twrp 2.2.0. I went ahead and used goo manager to download the updated zip of 2.2.1 and tried flashing it thru twrp. Now I am stuck in google bootloop and cant get into recovery or more importantly bootloader. I have been trying last 30mins to hold power and both volume buttons but it either keeps rebooting back to the google screen or not doing anything at all just have to repress to to turn it off but it will turn back on automatically. I tried hooking it up to my usb and labtop but it looks like it wont even recognize it. I just fully charged it so I am good for now just a little worried cant get out of this mess.
I ran into a problem like that with clockwork recovery it kept on rebooting in recovery but I could still go into download mode I was at work away from my computer so I had no choice but to keep trying that three button magic until it finally restored a backup I had on my external card.just keep on trying to pull the battery then try to go into recovery. You might 've gotten a bad download

problem is I cant get into recovery. or the green screen to get to bootloader. It just completely stuck in a bootloop on the google screen mocking me... I am really contemplating opening it up and taking out battery but is that a good idea? Or is there anything else I can do?
so I pulled off the back cover but really dont want o disconnect the battery might mess something up but I cannot get the device to shut off.
disconnecting the battery does nothing it shuts it off and keeps it off but when I connect it to the charger the battery symbol pops up for a second and then goes completely blank. I went ahead and tried again to boot into bootloader pressing power vol up + down and all combinations of power vol -, power vol +
power turbo press vol +/- but no luck still in google screen.
If you're in a bootloop you need to connect your Nexus 7 to a computer. Then you will be able to access recovery via the Power button and volume buttons.
is it going to make a difference that everytime i try to reboot it just the black google screen? I have tried it connected to the wall charger and connected usb to the labtop but nothing.

It's supposed to do that when you're trying to go to recovery from bootloader without the USB cable plugged into a computer, may need to have the drivers installed on said computer. It's an issue with the nexus 7 bootloader and every one of them does it. What your experiencing is perfectly normal if you tried to go to recovery from bootloader with the bolume buttons and then got the google screen bootloop.
If it doesn't work when you plug it in and try, then try unplugging it, manually rebooting with it plugged in first, or vice versa
Update: I can get on Team Viewer and remotely reboot you into recovery through the PC if you want, or at least give it my best shot.
ok so i disconnected battery and have the device off. I should then try connecting it to the pc and try booting up holding down all buttons?

Have you installed the right drivers on the computer you're using, for ADB and the device drivers, when you unlocked and rooted?
Answer to your question is yes try that. But I wouldn't be disconnecting and reconnecting it, I can't recommend that and then learn tomorrow that static zapped something important.
yea I am getting nothing by connecting to pc. I have all the drivers adb and fastboot installed when I rooted and unlocked couple weeks back but it looks like device is not being recognized or read at all by the pc.
connecting to the pc holding the volume + button gets it recognized for a second and tries to install a driver apx but unsuccessfully.
I am not making any progress whatsoever kinda sucks starting the weekend like this. I have gone thru some bad stuff with my atrix but nothing like this were I cant even access my bootloader boot into recovery or even fastboot. Should I try and get it to just stay off and see if overnight it works its own magic? Hate going to sleep witht his on my mind but I think with a clear mind in the morning something good will happen.
I can get it to stay off by holding both vol+ and vol- but trying to turn it off with just the power button just keeps it turning back on/off...
so I slepted on it thru the night let the tablet rest but went back this morning and I still cant get into bootloader or recovery. Is there anything I can do?
Has anyone else had this problem where they cant boot into recovery or bootloader? It's like the power button and vol keys are unresponsive even though they still work to turn on the device.
are you sure that you flashed the right recovery? but you should still be able to get the bootloader. are you pressing power + volume down(volume down, not both volume buttons. i noticed you wrote both volume buttons) to get into the bootloader?
I think I chose the right recovery the first version downloaded thru goo manager but it was the 2.2.0 version. I had the option on the of downloading the 2.2.1 zip or the .img but i downloaded the .img to just to flash with the current version of twrp that was working. There have been times were I have not been able to get into recovery on my atrix or htc but I've always been able to get into the bootloader this is the first time I've been locked out of my device kind of got me scared its not even a month old. So you say to get into bootloader you dont have to hold down both volume buttons? I will try again to power back up using the volume down and power button at same time... Wish me luck

quick question before I connect the battery does it make a difference whether or not I have it plugged in charging or connected to the PC while trying to boot into bootloader?
