[Q] Baseband / ROM / M919->I337 Combination - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

So to have an unlocked bootloader I got the Tmo S4, I'm going to be using it with AT&T. For best results, should I be using the Tmo baseband or an AT&T one? Even if I leave the baseband as Tmo (It is MDL), after flashing recovery and installing rom, would i install a Tmo or ATT rom?
Dont care about LTE.

Use the TMO base band and you can flash att TMO and others but remember to flash a TMO kernel.

What does flashing the Tmo kernel do exactly? Right now I'm using a Note 2 T889 with with the Tmo baseband on AT&T. I downloaded the cm10.1 for t0lteatt and never changed the kernel.

The modems and kernels are signed specifically for each device anyways, so i'm not sure a custom AT&T kernel would even work on your device. There's not really a difference anyways as long as you have the phone network unlocked.

How strange, the first thing I did with my T889 was flash custom recovery and install cm10.1 ATT version. Never had any problems.

I have the same band on my Fido S4, too.

Rooting and unlocking are two different things.
Rooting = full access to the android system.
Unlocking = network unlocking, so you can use the Robbers S4 on AT&T or another network.

Hey guys,
I used the above guys and managed to install CM 10.2 and it works.. okay.. I have to admit that I want to go back and try a debloated TW Rom again so that I can use the multiwindow, roaming and camera support that comes with the phone.
The biggest issue I have noticed that a number of ROMS do NOT show up in my Goo-Manager. I am guessing it is because of my MDJ Base-band. I have done some searching but cannot find any note of changing from MDJ - to MDL and therefore opening up some ROMS like CleanROM.
Please let me know if you have done anything like this before.
Cheers
Travis

[Q] Update unlocked AT&T Galaxy S4 to 4.3 on Rogers network

I have a rooted and unlocked I337 from AT&T which I am now running in Canada on the Rogers network.
I haven't received the 4.3 update from either AT&T or Rogers, and nothing seems to be available through Kies either. I'm assuming I am supposed to get it through AT&T, but that it would only work with an AT&T SIM card in the US. Is that correct?
Anyway to get the update?

I am pretty sure you won't get the update from Rogers as your only using their sim rom would not be compatible with your phone.. I337... Rogers is I337M.... I also don't think you will get it from AT&T because your rooted..... Just a guess but if you just want to get to 4.3, I would think you need to use an AT&T rom which you can find in the general thread to flash using Odin, but I would do a lot more reading and asking questions before you dive in the deep end....

Thanks. Can't flash using Odin AFAIK, as I am on MF3 baseband.
But what you're saying is that if I wasn't rooted, I would likely get the AT&T update, even though I am not currently on their network?

I'm pretty confident you need to be on the AT&T network to get the OTA. You can use the MK2 ODIN files just fine, locked bootloaders don't prevent that.

what variant ? at&t,tmobil,verizon

if i cant get to ainternational variant, wich is the best option? verizon,at&t ,tmobil?? wich supports more roms?
bump.?? no one??
Really depends on your carrier. Verizon phone may not be a good choice if Verizon isn't your carrier.
The ATT has a locked bootloader. Not sure about the T-mobile version's bootloader.
I have the d802 and it's really nice but I can't get LTE in Canada, only 3g. At least it doesn't have a locked bootloader and, once I figured things out, flashing ROMs is easy.

well my carrier is telcel from mexico.. and i tought all had bootloader locked, since am buying it in california those are the ones available, used dont want to spend money on new one..
one other question why cloudy 3.3 gets worst battery than stock? i have it he other way around stock galaxy s2 i get worst battery then running aosp lollipop rom
I used cloudy for a few days and the battery seemed fine to me.
I don't know if all of the bootloaders are locked.
For my international version, I was able to easily flash twrp and load a custom ROM. Maybe I was using bumped or loki files and didn't know it?

ok, cause i tought if using cloudy gets me the same onscreen time as the n5 then go for n5, but i like the camera and the supposed longer battery time on lg g2.
i dont know anything about bootloader i guess my s2 had it unlocked i only had to flash twrp using odin and the root then rom..
I am using Inazuma with the latest Dorimanx kernel and it seems quite good. It's smooth and fast.

which rom to use att or tmobile?

I just got a tmobile note 4 and Im unlocking it for att service. I have already rooted the device, the question is do I flash att roms since im using att service or do I flash tmobile roms and input att apn?

Flash Tmobile. Att has a locked bootloader, and I don't know if flashing an att rom would install said bootloader. If it does, then you won't be able to root and you'll never be allowed to flash anything other than att roms.
Better to be safe IMO

Calling isn't working?

Every Rom I tried on my GALAXY S4, lately my calling hasn't worked at all on any of the Roms, I would open the phone app trying to call Voicemail and nothing happens, it doesn't ring or nothing just a long pause and a single beep?. I tried finding ways online how to fix it but so far no luck :-/, has anyone found a solution to fix it? Because Im actually so lost on what to do about it right now.
This happens when running the latest stock ROM? Phone shows the correct IMEI from the dialler?

Yeah like my texting and data works fine it's just the calling that doesn't work, and I'm just like lost now and ran out of ideas, like when I go in the settings and go under phone info and it shows I'm connected to mobile network and IMEI info is still the same from stock ROM.
I'm stumped. The sim is working since text and data work.
Is the phone being used with the carrier that issued the phone or was the phone purchased outright and unlocked?

It was originally by telus Canada variant, but recently in Canada they made it free to get your phone unlocked under certain conditions, so I called telus and they unlocked it for me to be world wide, because my phone is actually so simaler to the US and European variant, on how they are built so I Flashed TWRP GT-i9505 on it and now so now I'm running XOSP-UNOFFICAL-20180114-JFLTEXX and everything works except calling, right now that's how I'm responding to this thread is by mobile data.
Yes, the sgh-337m (Canadian variant) and GT-i9505 are very similar but the radio bands supported by each model is different. Maybe certain radio bands need to be unlocked or enabled for voice?
You could try this website to check compatibility with a stock i337m ROM: https://willmyphonework.net/
Edit: I just noticed you are in Vancouver. Which carrier is being used with the phone?

I am using Freedom mobile is my current service provider, not the biggest company but they are growing. OK I'll look at that link
Did you modify the radio bands to enable AWS for Freedom? I know they are expanding their LTE network to bring LTE to phones that previously worked on 3g only like the iPhone 6s a1688.
Modify Bands? May you describe what that is and how? Because I didn't modify anything all I did one day was Flashed stock ROM via Odin from SamMobile and ever since them my IMEI hanged or anything
Freedom frequencies aren't supported by the i337m. The freedom version of the s4 is the sgh-m919v.

What how is that possible I get mobile data and texting though? Because even In Stock ROM I'm able to call as well?
So your talking about Sgh-i337m right?
Just want to confirm that calling with a stock rom on freedom doesn't work but data and text does? If yes, that is strange that calling doesn't work.
Does calling work with another carrier?

No I mean when I ran Lollipop from SamMobile calling worked 100% same with texting and data, but calling doesn't work running custom Rom, it works for texting and Data but not calling.
That is strange. The custom ROMs are made for the jflte?

This is a screenshot of my device info and Rom and no its for the gfltexx
I just noticed now but in the screenshot of "mobile network state" that it says "disconnected" now I'm confused. About my phone is GT-I337M is the original model name.
I think it may be a kernel issue. Is the phone running the kernel included with the rom?
I never actually knew the differences were between a Rom and a kernel? For a while ithought they were the same, hold on I'll take a screenshot of it.
