[Q] i9505 wont boot after hard reset - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After few roms which I tried I got a problem with my S4.
When I remove battery during phone running, next boot stuck at boot animation and never starts. Helps only reflashing rom.
I tried original rom, all wiping, formatting... everything without success. Only cure is reflash...
Simply it happens always when phone is forced turned off.... discharged battery or removed battery or long holding power button... doesnt matters, same effect everytime...
Anyone have some ideas?
Thank you a lot.

Why u remove the battery during phone running?? This is like a outage for ur phone. If u did that a lot of times (for sure u did how u are explaining urself) maybe u ****ed up the motherboard. 2 councils:
1. Get it to repair to one service center
2. When u wanna power off ur phone, use the power button :silly:

I know you've posted elsewhere, but it really helps if you tell us your phone model, if its G3/G4, what the IPL/SPL was before the problem started, etc...
Unfortunately, with the little info you've provided, I can't say for sure what has happened, but on first blush that sure sounds like a brick.
I would suggest you take the battery out of the phone, then press and hold the power button for 10 secs (this should discharge any remaining power) and leave the battery out for 30 minutes (might be excessive, but lets play safe). Don't plug it in and don't do anything else with the phone.
Now, after 30 mins pass, then put the battery back in and plug it into the wall (not your PC, but the wall). Again, don't do anything else. Don't press the power button or anything. If the phone acts like its trying to turn on, then turn it off. Let it sit plugged in to the wall for about 10 minutes. The charge light may or may not come on. If it does come on, then just leave it. If it doesn't come on, then try turning the phone on. If it comes on, then leave it on for 30 mins then turn it off to let it complete the charge.
If none of this works, I suspect you either have a dead battery, or your phone is a brick.

right phone is a G3 is was running the IPL/SPL of whatever buttons ROM has, as i said it hung like it's done a couple of times before when i tried buttons ROM but the other times i've just got into the boot loader menu and re-flashed and away i go, i'll try the battery thing in a fue mins, the battery was showing no signs of going bad was holding charge fine do the batteries just go like that? if it doesn't turn on would i be able to send it back to t-mobile as it's still in warrenty could they fined out it has a custom rom on it i.e is there away to say look at the rom on another peace of equipment to see if original or not, don't know if that makes sence.
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr was going to stay with the wisard love rom i kinda liked it, wish i had now
thanks for the info
Just out of curiosity, but why did you go back to the Button ROM? Once you CID Unlocked, you are done with that process. You can flash official 2.x and custom roms to your heart's content and not have to go back to the Button ROM again. Only time you ahve to do CID unlock again is if you do go back to 1.xx IPL/SPL for some reason.
Good luck, I hope that works for you. As for warranty, but doing any custom stuff you void your warranty, but if the phone won't come on at all, then I don't see how they will know (not like they are going to pop a chip out and look to see what's on it).
And no, I wouldn't think the battery would just completely die under normal use. You usually start noticing it can't hold a charge first.
Could be this is a hardware issue, but really hard to say.

Sounds like it could be the battery, in some cases it will fully discharge (e.g. when shortcircuited) and then can no longer be charged in any regular way. You can try this:

i have to same problem, but the batttery was fully charged when i was flashing. so it should still have more than 80% battery, so y it doesnt turn on any more?

Wizard not turning on. Doesn't boot.

Hello, a while back I posted a charging problem, which turned out to be the Mini-USB and Wall Charger was bent, and before that, the Mini USB outlet in the phone broke entirely. Well, another problem has arisen, as finally got a new charger yesterday, and worked perfectly. So, I shut it off, and left it to charge overnight. Now, the problem? All of a sudden, it refuses to boot. Held down the power button for 5 seconds, 20 seconds, and a full minute. Nothing. Any suggestions?

nothing AT ALL? or the screen turns on and gets stuck?
if nothing at all happens, try the battery jump start method
Well, after constant trying at starting the phone, I managed to have it boot after hours. What happened? During the boot, where it displays Windows Mobile 6, a line appeared, and the phone darkened, and then crashed.
What the hell.
I suggest a hard reset......

....................And how can I hard reset when it doesn't boot, and whenever it does, crashes during it?
Anyone that's here help?
I'm currently having the same problem with mine. Hard resetting didn't work for me but you may as well try it.
If you can get it to start booting for just a few seconds you can hard reset it without loading the operating system. As soon as you get it to turn on, hold down the Wifi and Voice command buttons (one's on the left, one on the right). After holding those down, press the soft reset button (the little button on the right that you can press with your stylus) very quickly and release it. If you hold the soft reset button too long, it will perform a regular soft reset and you'll have to start over, so do that quickly.
A black screen should come up and tell you to press your send button to hard reset your phone.
I have similar problem,It's turn on to the logo that's always shown when boot and then it show the logo till it discharged.I tried hard reset, but it's still the same,i post 2 topic's in this website and no one help me
i too am facing the same problem, i was able to start it a few times but it crashed after a few seconds each time. i m gonna charge it all night and see if it starts. right now all i m getting is the red led. i really hope someone finds a solution soon.
With me it was my battery that caused the problem. Try it with the battery of another wizard. Succes, Rietje
ok so i charged it for more than 12 hours and my wizadr still didnt start.
I then got a NEW BATTERY and my wizard turned on within the very moment i pressed the power button.
So any one who is facing a similar problem should try a new battery.
Yea,this is a second time when i have this problem.I both A new battery,BUT IT STILL THE SAME!!!
First time when i both a new battery it was working fine, but now the battery won't help

try a battery frm a friends phone. u ll be sure that the battery u r using works fine. if ur phone still doesnt work then u need to have it checked.
i have same problem,,and i use T-Mobile MDA Vario
is it just battery problem or not?and if the PDA inactive it can still charge or not?
and i usually use blackberry charger to charge my PDA,is it ok?and is there any possibility my PDA can't work again?i hope not
pls help me..
Well for starters, charging your phone overnight will probably damage the battery over time. It's only the newer phones and batteries that are able to withstand extended overcharging times without serious damage to the battery. With older phones including the K-JAM/MDA Vario, the battery is meant to be charged till its full, and no more. If you overcharge it, you run the risk of damaging your battery and possibly the phone too.
If a new battery hasn't fixed your problem, the problem lies in your phone's mainboard.
Try charging your phone from a USB port on a computer to see if anything happens.

Help!!! i bricked my phone!!

Hi!!
I was updating my phone and my pc just shutted down in the middle of the update... the phone just hung there... after 1/2 an hour i decided to turn it off.. and it never turned on again... it doesn´t even show the charging battery....
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!
Remove battery wait 5 minutes and try to go to download mode and flash phone again.
Agree mate, pull battery I'd leave for a good half hour. As long as you can get it into download (power on holding volume down and home buttons) then you can re-flash using ODIN.
it doesn't do anything.... 1/2 hour without battery... and still nothing...
any other idea?
OK, try this:
1. remove battery
2 (tricky a little bit): keeping the download buttons pressed, insert the battery
another option is to use jig, but both above options are promising only if your bootloader survived....
definitively bricked! nothing worked... so tomorrow i'll take it to my carrier and play the dumb blonde to see if they can do something ( it is still in warranty, but here in venezuela it doesn't mean much) so.. i´ll cross my fingers and wait... thanks everybody
Just let us know how it ended... wish you success with them.
hi! today i got my sgs back, they told me that the logical board was replaced...
so i think that once the bootloader is dead, not even the samsung people can bring it back..
so.. from now on... i'll do everything with a ups or in my laptop to avoid any shutdown..
Good to know, thanks for the warning.

Great for you, probably your phone did get an overcharge that killed the board. Thi is why many people use laptops to make flash roms.
Thanks for info.. I didn't know USB can overcharge the phone..
So if I put in the surge protector for my pc, it should help protect the phone too right..?
I don't think, it can be overcharged by USB. These phones have system, that will turn off charching once charged. I have never been checking whether my phone is already fully charged and have never problems with overcharging

My g900F is Hard Bricked - Help me please

Hello.
I've flashed my s5 with popwizh and everything went well. But after a full battery discharge the phone won't turn back on.
Battery is good and charger.
volUp+home+power doesn't do anything
volDown+home+power doesn't start download recovery
tried to boot from sdcard with a debrick img but no luck.
What more can I do? I don't want a paperweight please.
Charge it?
Battery is good and charged
If you can't get it to even turn on or enter download mode, there's not a lot you can do
Try removing everything like SIM and SDCard, remove the battery too and only connect the charger, see if you can get any signs of life at all
If not, it sounds like a hardware problem
Its to much of a coincidence to be a hardware problem, I refuse to give up just yet.
So far all the posts that resemble to my situation go on an on about flashing a debrick.img to the sdcard and boot from there. Dead boots and stuff.
I did this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/g900f-debrick-img-lollipop-t3240626 but without success
You said it won't even power on ?
How you going to flash anything without power?
I'm not saying 100% this is the problem, but most devices die when they are powered on, as that is when they are put under the highest stress
For example, I put away my treadmill in the corner of the room about 6 months ago, working - came to use it a few weeks ago, dead
Looks like pixies killed it, but actually it was when it was powered up again, just looks like it died when it was off
--
Is the phones power button working?
If you at least had a sign of life, we could go from there, but without any power at all, I have no clue
Battery connection contacts not bent or snapped?
From what I understand the phone won't turn on because the boot partition is gone, so if I manage to boot from the sd card to the download recovery, I can then use odin to flash it back to stock android.
Am i wrong?
Are you even getting the logo on screen when you turn it on?
Does the screen even light up?
You said there is no power at all, that's not a boot partition problem
Man if it's not turning on and there's no reaction when you press the power button then there's two things I can suggest : the power button is not working; or when the battery went completely dead its safety system thing could have turned on, which means you have to put it to charge as long as it takes for it to turn on again. Plus if your phone was exposed to water which I doubt its power controller could have gotten burnt
Have you plugged it into a pc? See if it registers with that and if it dies but still doesn't boot just try to leave it on the charger for a few hours even if it's fully charged. Then battery out for 10 secs wait... wait... wait... and turn it on plugged into the wall. Or at least try. If that still won't work samsung repair Centre for you
Still no life, I've tried everything said so far. My only hope is a debrick.img to boot from the sd card, which I don't have.

HELP !!! S7 Edge doesn't turn on (neither on download mode, nor on recovery mode)

So my phone was OK, when suddenly having 42% of battery it turned off and didn't turn on again. I can't access to download or recovery modes to flash it and change the ROM. The phone doesn't react even on charging (0 V, 0 A on the USB cable). Don't know what to do.
Did anybody have this problem too ? I really need to bring back this phone

No, there is nothing. Just bricked phone without any sign of life.
Unfortunately, if that is the case, this may be a hardware problem related to the motherboard which needs to be replaced. Make sure to leave it for a few days then try to charge it to see if it would respond, otherwise, make also sure that this is not a display problem by checking if the device is working ( try phonecalls or so ... )

It is definitely the case. The battery itself gives 3.6 V but the phone is not getting it. I've seen a topic where a guy was advising to perform a JTAG flashing (can be a bootloader error) connecting the phone immediately to a power source (without battery). But not sure if I can perform it too. Any ideas ?
Bootloader errors are mainly due to motherboard malfunctions on the galaxy S7 edge, this is a very common issue where the only fix is to completely replace the motherboard, some cases can be repaired due to a reset or a stock rom flash ( which cannot be your cases because you cannot access to download more nor recovery) while others are fixed with a custom flash. Some very rare cases are also fixed with that JTAG flashing you heard of, this forces the battery to work and deliver its power to the rest of the parts, but this is a very risky operation which can damage your entire phone. If you wanna try it, I advice you to get some professional help as you can hurt yourself too in this process ! Good luck
It looks like you a main board issue. You might need to have that part replaced.

Yeah, you just have to make sure that it is completely working. But my experience shows that it doesnt end up really well, because the phone will just suffer from other malfunctions due to imcompatibility and all. So I dont recommend you doing it, if you really want to repair it, send it to the customer services !
Good luck

I had the same issue. As suggested that the phone may switch on once the battery is completely drained, I waited till last night and plugged it in and it started charging.
It was fine till this morning. I inserted the SIM cards and then connected to the laptop. I thought I would backup the data using smart switch before doing a factory reset. The backup went fine till 75% and then boom again turned off. This time there's a lot of battery left, and I might have to wait 4-5 days before it can be drained completely. But I'm now hopeful that it'll eventually turn on and when it does I'll immediately do a factory reset before doing anything else. I'm suspecting that a rogue app might be causing it. This time it might have happened while that app is being backed up. The LED is constant Red this time indicating the state it was connected to the laptop at the time of incident.
Is there anyway to drain battery quickly at this stage?
It turned on again last night when I connected the charger. It was showing the charging symbol. After 5-6 minutes of charge I tried to hold Vol - + Power buttons briefly to reset the device and it went off again. It's lying like a brick currently.

had the same thing happen to me.
Initially crashed.
could be turned on after draining the battery(phone was still warm at times with screen off/phone off)
charged and could turn on again.
But the time it could stay on would decrease and decrease.
It then just bootlooped and with that would only accept charge turned off.
In the end I couldnt turn it on at all and it wouldnt charge.
Looking to replace my mainboard now. seems that the Flashmemory damaged itself.
