I use Exchange Enterprise Activesync for email, and corporate policy forces the use of a pin.
There is a function to display a 20 digit recovery password in Outlook Web Access that can be used if the device PIN is forgotten.
On my TyTN II (Windows Mobile 6.1) on the lock screen there is a Menu with Reset Password as an option, after selecting this I can specify a new password, then enter the 20 digit recovery password.
However, I can't find a password reset option on the HD2 lock screen. I suspect, from searching on the Internet, that this might be the case with other Windows Mobile 6.5 devices, but can't get at one to check.
Does anybody know how the password reset option can be accessed?
Hey, we are having the same problem with the HD2. There is not a "menu" option on the lock screen.
Anyone figure out how to use this yet?
Same problem :/
Does nobody have an idea?
Can anyone tell me:
What is the default Credential storage password.
What happens if you run out of attempts to unlock the Credential storage.
When the phone is rooted will it change, disappear, or remain the same.
I'm cautious
Appreciate it

nothin will chnage it will just reset if enetered too much times and yes it works
What is this used for, anyway??
i have no idea. But it only asks me for this password when I try to connect to enterprise networks
I think, like the name suggests, it is a keyword that is used to store a set of passwords with. The only place I have encountered this credential storage password is, as mentioned above, while trying to connect to enterprise networks
My request is quite weird I agree, but i have no solution . I have enabled exchange sync for my company email id and hence phone is pattern locked. 3 wrong attempts and thats it, it will ask for recovery password(god only knows whats that..!!! itried everything) and then complete data wipe..it happened with me twice..once because of my little nephew and once becaise of my friend..following are my questions, if anyone could help
1. Is there any app/way to display warning/custom message to anyone using my phone during pattern entry/pin entry etc?
2.What on earth is recovery password for Galaxy note..i tried samsung account password, gmail pwd, company email pwd, network pin, 0000, 000000, 1234 etc..nothing worked..hence data wiped out..
3. once google restore worked perfectly and everything was restored. now it simply doesnt download my apps from backup . can anyone tell me exact PROCEDURE for DATA/APP restrore from google backup after a reset.

thanks, btw auto restore stuff is checked..but it didnt work
You can always try to unlock it via :
http://www.samsungdive.com/DiveMain.do
It should let you unlock your phone remotly without reset, as you have setup a samsung account.
Do try and post feedback if working or not with unlock pattern.
Good luck
thanks..nope..it doesnt buddy..i tried samsungdive..it asks for recovery password and thats it!!!
mmmmm....
So to setup your exchange account (to be compliant with your company) you had to setup your phone with unlock patern or PIN pattern. It should also had a "device administrator" (try to see in the settings menu, If it is right) to let your company network admin to remotely wipe everythings. So this password recovery might been set by him from the server side. Ask him if he had setup any password for remote wipe or anything else.
Good luck

yeah..you are right..and i tried callin my IT hep desk..and she just says use your email password, which obviously dint work..by the way app suggested by dr.ketan is good..but im a bit late..
Ok,
I know for sur that your IT has the option for PIN unlock pattern enforcement.
You could always ask to setup again a PIN from their side and use it as your unlock "way". And the device administrator password is alsmost for "sur" not your personnal password from your company ( except If your network admin know all your password and set the same for the device administrator wich sound/is quiet strange).
But almost for sur this recovery password is set from your company side from exchange (ask them to go to the server AD and right click your user, and in the exchange/email tab their should be a "remote device" option or such tab in wich all the options, enforcement and password specific for your account and his phone/remote device access)
Goold luck

Ok have a look at and forward this to your IT :
http://www.sysadminlab.net/activesy...tivesync-policies-a-complete-guide-what-works
and also try:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996351.aspx
and from it for password recovery:
Use Outlook Web App to recover a device password
In Outlook Web App, click Options.
Select Phones from the Navigation Pane.
Select the mobile phone from the list.
All mobile phones the user has configured for Exchange ActiveSync are displayed in this list. To determine the correct mobile phone, use the device name and the last synchronization time displayed in the list of devices.
Good luck
cool..leme try that. thanks a million

I tried outlook weboption..here is wat i have.
no option to view password .
Manage your mobile devices here.
You can remove devices that you are no longer using. If you forget your device password, you can access it here. If you lose your phone or mobile device, you can initiate a remote device wipe to protect your information.
To add a new device, begin a partnership with Microsoft Exchange from the device and it will appear in the list below.
Remove Device from List... | Wipe All Data from Device...
hmm..thts because..
Display Recovery Password (Windows Mobile 6 only): This option allows you to access your device if you've lost or forgotten the password. To unlock your device:
Press Menu, and then select Reset password.
The device will alert you that you must select a new password and supply a recovery password, which you can find in OWA. Once you have accepted, create a new password, and then press OK.
The screen will tell you where to find the recovery password and provide a space to enter it. Enter the recovery password, and then press OK.

Let me tell you this. I also have my corporate email account set in my Note, but instead of using stock email app I am using Touchdown.
That way the corporate does not have any access to you're full mobile, it is restricted to Touchdown.
The regular screen lock is the typical Android function.

There's this issue that's really bothering me. When I create a VPN connection system asks me to create a code (pattern, pin or password). Then, lockscreen requires my code to unlock, and it doesn't allow me to change lock back to none because, it says, it's protected under a credential storage.
If I clear my credential storage it clears my saved connections.
Now I found an app that disables lockscreen without deleting the credentials, now even though "none", "slide" and "face unlock" are greyed out, option is set to none. Too bad I want "slide", not "none". But in this case should be simpler..
I tried to add a new IPSec VPN profile today and after saving the preshared key I was prompted to enter the Credential Storage password, which I have never setup. Anything I enter fails; I can keep trying indefinitely and it never prompts to reset credential storage.
Looking in Settings > Security > Credential Storage shows Storage type is "Backup to hardware" and not changeable and Clear credentials is also grayed out.
Why can't I create local credential storage secured by my own password with this device?
EDIT: So I found the workaround, but not really an answer to the credential storage issue:
http://www.pocketables.com/2014/02/fix-credential-storage-roadblock-android.html
Essentially, Credential Storage forces you to use PIN or Password unlock options only, but you must disable all unlock options first and run something that requests credential storage to enable it. If you set PIN or Password unlock yourself and try to enable credential storage in VPN it will fail. Thankfully I don't need to use VPN from device really so i can go back to Fingerprint unlock, but hopefully this helps someone else in the future.
I've tried it repeatedly, all with same results. Not sure how to resolve it yet

By the way, I brought this issue to both Samsung and Verizon support and their only answers were to perform a factory reset.
Lesson learned: I'm better at supporting my device than the manufacturer and carrier combined.
